I just moved from an apartment to a house in PG County on August 31, 2019 and VanGuard Moving Express was absolutely amazing. I'll start from the beginning. I did a mass quote request through Yelp and got a few offers back. After going back and forth with one, I was almost sold but decided to do another push for quotes. The second time, I heard back from VanGuard with an email that said "thanks for submitting through Yelp. Here's a link so that you can give us more information so we can get you a better quote". SIMPLE and way easier than going back and forth via email like I had been doing the first time with another company. The form took about 5 minutes to fill out (actually less but I wanted to account for the detailed typing I did with the open-ended notes portion). Maybe about 10 minutes later, I had an official quote. Not an email saying "this is the price", but an official quote with a breakdown that was easy to read and sign. The day before the move I received a text message confirming my move and it was a simple "reply yes. To reschedule, reply no". IT'S MOVING DAY. My movers call me and let me how far out they are and expected ETA. Awesome. Rudy and Saad came up to my third story apartment and we did a detailed walkthrough of what was going on the truck, what I was going to take and what needed to be disassembled/reassembled at the new place. They walked me through the contract in layman's terms. We signed and then they were off to the races in moving. Rudy and Saad started at 9:30am and by 11:20 they were locking up and en route to my new place. Once they got here, we did a walkthrough of where things should go and then they took over in unloading everything. By 1:00pm they were done and we were signing the final completion confirmation. AMAZING. In short, I wholeheartedly recommend VanGuard Moving Express for your moves in and around the DMV area. I'll be settled for some time but will absolutely recommend them to anyone moving. I just completed a move with VanGuard Moving Express in Fairfax, Virginia and can not say enough good things about their company and my experience with them! In completing a much anticipated move from North Carolina to Virginia, I was surprised to find out that the apartment I was moving into would not allow a POD, which I had been packed into, to be delivered onto their property. So began my research for a reasonably priced, well reviewed moving company to move my belongings from the POD to my new 4th floor apartment. After reading online and talking with several local companies, I chose VanGuard Moving Express and am thrilled with their service and professionalism! They were on-time, in budget, and completed my move without any problems on their end. However, after arriving at the apartment with VanGuard, I learned that the unit was not quite ready and my furniture would need to be stacked in the center of a couple of rooms and unwrapped and placed correctly a few days later. My wonderful VanGuard movers, Saad and Rudy, took this all in stride and assured me that they would be back to help when the apartment was ready - and they were! They were compassionate and caring and helped put my mind at ease. They returned a few days later, unwrapped and placed all of my furniture and even took extra items to my storage unit in an adjacent building! These men were great and I would recommend them to anyone. The company kept in close touch throughout the process by both email and phone calls and were always available to answer questions. I could not have asked for a better moving company to help me complete this very important move! This was a very positive experience all around!! read more

I had a terrible experience with Vanguard Movers in the DMV and would not recommend them. I was initially quoted around $700 for my move. When the movers arrived, however, I was told I would be charged hourly and that the move should take approximately four hours. What followed was an extremely slow and frustrating process. In my experience, an excessive amount of time was spent wrapping items, loading the truck, and completing basic parts of the move. I observed members of the crew texting, having conversations, and charging their phones while I was paying by the hour. Despite how long the loading process took, they still were not able to fit all of my belongings into the truck. I was also charged for the time it took them to transport my belongings to the destination. By the end of the move, a job that I had originally been quoted around $700 for had turned into a bill of approximately $2,150. I ultimately negotiated the amount down to $1,800, but that was still more than twice the original quote. To make matters worse, after spending that much money and that many hours on the move, much of my furniture and belongings were not even placed in the rooms where I wanted them. The process had gone on for so long that eventually I just wanted the movers out of my house. I was left having to finish a significant amount of the moving and organizing myself. Going from an approximately $700 quote to a $2,150 bill, while experiencing what I felt was unnecessarily slow work and still having to finish portions of the move myself, was extremely disappointing. Based on my experience, I would not use Vanguard Movers again and cannot recommend them. read more

The two-man team of Dennis and Vlad did an excellent job with my interstate move between one-bedroom apartments. They were very courteous and diligent during a long day - and I didn't find a scratch on the furniture (or anything else unpacked so far). My impressions of VanGuard Moving Express, the company employing this great team, are good, but with some room for improvement. They responded very quickly to my request for a quote. And at my request, they gave me a guaranteed-not-to-exceed price, reflected in their quote by the language "THIS IS NOT TO EXCEED PRICE." Their hourly rate-based quote was much lower than the volume-based quotes from other movers I contacted. I read the good reviews and spoke with references who were glowing. VanGuard provided a quote by email, and made adjustments as needed before I confirmed. They didn't follow up until the day before the move; it would have been helpful to do so a few days earlier, but it wasn't a big deal. My only material qualms with VanGuard had to do with pricing when it came to move day. First, I learned that the not-to-exceed-price was being treated as an estimate that could be exceeded, rather than as a guaranteed max. Second, I learned that the hourly quote I was given had depended on a much shorter drive-time than apparently is standard, i.e., factoring in that the truck must take a special truck route due to prohibitions on certain roads and the need to go through a weigh/inspection station. But because Dennis and Vlad completed the move faster than the not-to-exceed price, I am ultimately not holding much against VanGuard. I am thankful for a smooth move, and a helpful team. read more

If you want to hire Bauer at Vanguard Moving Express, be sure to have the police on speed dial and a lawyer ready and waiting! My 83 year old mother got yelled at very aggressively by the movers. English was not the mover's first language, so they were very hard to understand. when you ask a question, they get mad and yell at you in your face. They will give you an estimate and charge double on delivery, they break almost every single piece of furniture, the "Manager" Bauer will constantly call you and yell at you about how "we don't know the process"! Your furniture will take over a month to deliver. They will charge you for packaging supplies that were not even used! They do not wear masks, or uniforms, so there is no way of even knowing if the movers are even from Vanguard! Our furniture was delivered on 7/12 and Vanguard has refused to accept any calls since then. They don't even call to find out if the moved worked out or not. The employees quit and get fired every few hours, so you never know who you are you are going to end up working with. Bauer could use some Anger Management classes, that focus heavily on controlling your temper and being a bully! Who yells at an 83 year old woman! READ the reviews by Geetee R. and Omoro O.! For the address stress of the move, a full refund would be great! But, since they won't return any calls, that will never happen. They wont' even respond to the BBB. And they claim to have an "A+" rating, but are not registered with the BBB. read more

The best service I've ever experienced with a moving company in a very long time! I came across this company while moving out of my boyfriend's apartment and they were working very hard so I had to schedule with them to move my mom's house. At first, I think I had to reschedule the moving date at least 5 times and Bauer was very understanding about it so it was no problem! Yesterday was the moving date for my mom's house, Bauer, Eddie and John (I believe) came and they were extremely careful with packing, taking apart my furniture, securing everything so nothing breaks (I've had a whole desk torn apart with other moving companies) so I was actually pleasantly surprised to see the VanGuard crew being so careful. Also, I had a fridge that needed to go to the basement so they had to take the doors off to get it to fit through the door and they did it without hesitating even though it was probably not the easiest/convenient thing. The move ended up being a pretty big job and even though they had to leave asap for their next move, they stayed to reassemble my furniture with no problems. I'm definitely going to recommend Bauer and his crew to family and friends. I'm just glad I found them because I was very nervous about who to call for the move as well. Overall, great service, nice guys, very understanding and thoughtful with your furniture/belongings. Seriously just go with the VanGuard crew and ease some of the stress! read more

I found VanGuard Moving Express on the Facebook yard sale website. So, to say I was extremely nervous about what kind of service I was going to receive is an understatement! Well, let me tell you...these guys are the most professional team ever and they eased my worries immediately upon arrival. Bauer and the other gentleman he worked with got my stuff wrapped and packed onto the truck so quickly. Moving is always so stressful but I was feeling so at ease and happy with the move team! On the way to the new house, Bauer was following me and my dad to the new house. As we were sitting at a red light, we were broad sided by another car. Bauer jumped out to make sure we were ok. I was immediately worried about going over the two-hour timeframe that I had paid for but was immediately reassured by Bauer that no extra charges were going to be incurred! Do you know how relieved I was? So Bauer stayed so that the police could get his witness statement and then he agreed to go ahead to the house to start unpacking my stuff. I highly recommend this company for your move! I hope I never have to move again because it's so stressful, but if I do have to move, I will be calling VanGuard! For over a month, I did my research. I talked to, and provided information to, over a dozen companies, including lists, pictures, and a video walkthrough. Jennifer with Vanguard was patient, responded to all my back and forth email questions and request (I was trying to see if there was a catch was to their lower cost), met the time I needed, offered next day delivery for my long distance move out of state 375 miles away, and quoted a much lower cost than most other companies I talked to in the area. The hourly rate cost made the pricing straight forward and they came in right in the range expected. The guys moved stuff out efficiently, took items to the dumpster, disassembled as necessary, then the next day 375 mi away, they moved items from floor to floor as we settled on where we wanted them, reassembled furniture, and were all around very helpful, patient, and efficient. The only thing that was unexpected is that they arrived an hour early for the delivery the following day, which was no negative at all, and was preferred over them arriving late. I have moved all over this country, with several different companies, and I can honestly say, that VanGuard has been the best company that I have ever moved with. From the very start of the "Move Planning Process" in securing an estimate, all the way until our belongings were dropped off at our new location, moving with Bauer and VanGuard was a first-class experience. My decision was to hire Vanguard instead of Mayflower, Allied or any of those big companies. The big movers take several moves in one truck and are therefore unable to guarantee a date certain of arrival. Vanguard gave me professional service within the time I required, this is what solidified my choice of Vanguard. I heartily recommend Bauer and his team; they offered to arrive a day early, packed what I had not gotten to, and then 1,000 miles later, I was unpacked by the same friendly crew who packed me up. It was a relief to work with this strong team for the brief time it took to load 30 years of living in a Georgetown condo. You won't make a mistake deciding on this company for a move as far as mine, or certainly across town either. Our movers for the day, Reggie and Alex, were prompt on arrival and did a great job at explaining what they were going to do before they started. They made great suggestions for getting through the work fast and efficiently while keeping my belongings safe. This is hands down the best moving company I have ever worked with. I have moved 8 times in the last 8 years so my moving experience is extensive and I have been exposed to many moving companies. I called and spoke with Jennifer giving her one days notice to find 2 guys and a truck for a medium/ large size moving job and she called me back within 30 minutes for an extremely reasonable price to be scheduled for the following morning. She deeply cared about finding me movers even though I gave her such short notice. Rudy and Sherkhan came early to the job, handled my belongings with such care, and drove to our new home as well as a storage unit all within the quoted 3 hour time frame. These two gentlemen were absolutely incredible! They showed up at EXACTLY 9am (when they gave a 9-10am window). They looked everything over had me sign the papers and they were off! They continued working so incredibly hard and from my first place to my new place that was TWO FLOORS UP ONLY BY STAIRS, these guys had everything in and signed away 2 1/2 hours later. They were SO fast and SO strong, I was amazed! They were extremely kind and even offered me a teacher's discount. I would use this company again in a heart beat! We had a two bedroom move from Rockville, MD to Ellicott City, MD. The guys showed up on time and went straight to work. They showed early as it was forecasted to rainy later in the evening. They completed the move in three hours with an additional 1 hour of drive time. They really took care of wrapping up the furniture. They placed all of the furniture in our new home with outmost care, making sure not to damage any walls. Very professional crew and they offered very reasonable estimate.
