Fast, reliable, careful, and efficient movers! I hired Division 1 Moving to help me with heavy/bulky furniture and boxes for a local move from one 3-story townhome to another. The booking team was extremely communicative and easy to work with. They came out same day as initial contact to do a survey of the house to develop their estimated quote, and we got the quote within 24 hours. There was a $200 deposit to reserve our requested move date that went towards the final price. On moving day they arrived precisely on time, did a quick survey of everything (we had everything boxed and disassembled) so that they could get an understanding of what they were moving. The 4-man team immediately got to work, and they were extremely efficient and considerate. One of their quality assurance folks stopped by the house to check with us on how the move was going, and we had nothing but good things to say about the team. They notified us that a leg had come off of one of our nightstands when they flipped it over, and we were good with it since it was evident it was a bad weld job on the item and not anything they had damaged. They had loaded up everything carefully in about 1.5 hours, and we were off to the delivery destination! As quickly as they loaded they were just as fast at unloading. Again, they took extra precautions with the items (blankets, tape, the works) and with the house to not ding, dent, or scuff the floors, walls, stair railings, light fixtures. We did not have them box or unbox everything, so everything was basically just heavy lifting. All-in-all, they were done in 2.5 hours and it cost us ~$750 not including the $200 deposit. I highly recommend Division 1 Moving! Again, they were communicative, efficient, professional, careful, and friendly... pretty much everything you'd want in a moving company! read more

You should do yourself a favor and call him stat. I found so much comfort in being able to have direct communication with the owner. You know that he wants to make you happy because it's his business. He is very responsive, professional, and has made my life SO much easier. I heard about D1 Moving through my new property manager in advance of my move. Receiving an estimate with them was simple and quick, and it was also the best price quote I had received out of a few other moving companies that I had looked into. On moving day, the movers showed up right on schedule. They were very professional and efficient with wrapping up all of my large furniture and loading them onto the truck. Same thing when it came time to unload the furniture into my new place. The best part about this company - they were able to help me when I needed it most. Unfortunately, my couch was unable to fit into my new front door. The movers did what they could to try to assist, but it could not be done due to the framework of the couch. D1 offered to store my couch at their warehouse until I was able to figure out what I would do about the situation. I was in constant communication about this with the owner, Jake. The couch stayed with them for 5 days, and they delivered it back off to me at no additional cost once I needed it. I had expected for movers to drop the couch back off, but Jake and his father dropped it off themselves. Thank you all so much, once again! We have had 2 opportunities to use D1 Moving in less than a year. Both times Davis and his team exceeded our expectations! The first move (in May 2018) was a local move where the team arrived on time, were very neat and careful with our belongings and delivered everything without incident. Their prices were incredible and the crew was extremely polite and efficient. The second move (in February 2019) was as 200 mile move from NJ to MD. The team arrived in NJ ahead of schedule at 10am, despite a 4 hour drive and a significant snowfall the day before. They were neat, clean and again very professional. The put down carpet protection, packed a number of rooms and had the truck loaded by 1:30pm and completely unloaded by 8pm after a 4 hour drive! Again the price was more than reasonable. I have no hesitation giving D1 a 5 star review and my full recommendation. read more

I was disappointed in my experience given all the positive reviews and wanted to share for others a word of caution. I was initially impressed as came out and provided reasonable quote. Had been worried about the move due to the weather, but unfortunately there were no other immediate days around and I didn't have a lot of flexibility to change. The movers seemed to try hard and worked quickly, unfortunately there was damage to both my front door frame and two pieces of furniture. When I followed up they said typically they don't cover exterior damage, but just this once would make an exception and provide a $40 credit. Then with the two pieces of furniture they said I elected the basic insurance even though I don't remember a discussion, the insurance provides $0.60 coverage for damage per pound estimated so altogether got a credit of $160. I am paying $200 for repair of the furniture and will need to see how much the door will cost. I encourage people to ask about the insurance policy and note had three major items damaged during the move. After following up on the review and offering to help find a way to remedy our door they never followed up or followed through. Additionally, they said they provided extra support and at no cost, what actually happened is extra support was provided and then they tried to bill that without any communication prior and only when confronted was I offered the option to not be charged. There are other companies that I have had better experiences with and encourage people to look elsewhere. In fact the gentleman who repaired our furniture says he contracts with over 50 moving companies to address when damage happens, this company is not one and seems to dismiss problems or concerns. read more

We hired them to move from out of town to Richmond. While they were prompt and hard working, the damage they did to our furniture was worse than we could have imagined. Everyday we find more scratched or broken items. We have scratched floors and damaged walls at both locations that they caused. Boxes that were labeled upstairs were just left in the garage. Even worse, while we purchased movers insurance, they wouldn't even consider our claims until we paid the $300 deductible. Too much good money after bad, so we just sucked it up. I would not recommend this company for any move. read more

We used D1 for everything - boxing/packing/moving. It was our first time using D1 and we were not disappointed. James was great to work with but his crew stole the show. Davis, TJ and the rest of the crew were amazing. Moving is such a stressful process, but these guys really made it easy. They showed up on time and even finished early. THIS MOVING COMPANY IS HORRIBLE. DO NOT USE. They showed up SEVEN HOURS LATE, and I wish this was an exaggeration. My loading dock was already closed at this point and I accrued a penalty fee from my building. The movers were completely unreachable by phone and email for most of the day, and finally reached out via text saying they were running late. Their HQ office couldn't even reach them. If a move runs long, it happens, but you have to communicate with the customer in advance, not when you're already running an hour late. I finally had to call the corporate headquarters who also couldn't get a hold of the crew. Then, adding insult to injury, once the crew finally showed up, they only offered me 10% off my quoted price after already moving half of my furniture to the truck, basically holding it hostage until I would sign-off on the payment. They only gave a further discount after I demanded it and refused to sign until they complied. The final insult was they drove over part of my lawn, broke a manhole cover, and I had to work with the city to get it fixed. Absolutely terrible service. And, yes, I am commenting on D1 moving. I did a ton of research and got several estimates... D1 wasn't the lowest estimate (and therefore the riskiest, in my opinion) but they were not the highest by a long shot. I got a good feeling when dealing with James ("Jake") their rep in the Northern Virginia area... he was responsive, thorough, and seemed trustworthy. I'm glad I went with them... my instincts were correct. They handled what ended up being a very disorganized move (all my fault) with great professionalism, tact and incredible hard work. It was one of the summer's hotter days and the guys worked tirelessly and always with a smile.
