While my appointment went well, the standard insurance paper work for a cortisone shot (the most common intervention other than pain meds) was rejected, and no one from the office followed up. There were no follow up notes after my appointment for next steps. My primary seemed very surprised that this routine procedure was denied which makes me suspect that they didn't do the minimal paperwork required. When you call 'the office', you reach someone at the main switchboard who presumably passes on a message which may or may not be returned. In my case, it was not even though I requested that they resubmit the paperwork. Keep in mind that many many people reaching out to a pain management doctor are in excruciating, debilitating pain. When I finally went in, I was barely able to walk and had to lie down during the appointment due to the extreme pain. Currently, I'm repeatedly leaving messages at the switchboard attempting to try to get my cortisone shot months after all medical staff I met with agreed that it was necessary. If you are in an acute, debilitating situation with your pain, I'd recommend you seek someone who runs a more responsive office.

My regular doctors were unable to help me with a skin and inflammation issue that I've had for years, and after speaking with Dr. Korza and following her advice I was able to solve the issue. She was able to help me with supplements and nutritional advice almost immediately as opposed to years of multiple doctors not being able to help me. Most recently she prescribed that I do some blood work and it showed that I was one point away from being pre-diabetic and that I had extremely high iron/ferritin. Again, through her help I was able to get within a normal range, so I am no longer in danger of bing pre-diabetic and my iron/ferritin is down to normal levels. I am feeling much better now on a daily basis because of it, and by getting her expert care, I feel like I have avoided a future health issue. The regular health industry would have only treated me after being diabetic and having a damaged liver that was causing health issues. Thankfully because of Dr. Korza, I was able to avoid all of that, and become healthier now and for the future. I will continue to see her for any current issues that occur and for long term preventive health. I can't recommend her enough.

I was averaging about 0 to 3 hours of sleep per night when I came to see her and each month I endured so much pain around that time of the month. When I saw my Family Pracitioner about these issues she wrote me a prescription for Zoloft. Zoloft? I'm having 10 day periods, pain and insomnia......yes I know that's enough to make someone a bit crazy but why couldn't we just get to the root of the problem? At this point, I decided to go the holistic route and made an appointment with Dr. Korza. The first visit was awesome. No one had ever taken this kind of time to look over my medical history, food and supplement intake, life style, etc. When I came to her I felt uncomfortable, swollen and wrecked from being so tired. The root of the problem: Hormonal Imbalance. She came up with a plan went over it with me in her office and emailed me all of the details. I had to completely change my diet and removed soy, sugar, caffeine, alcohol, dairy, eggs, peanuts and wheat from my diet. I switched to whole foods, low grains and fruit. She also asked me to stop marathon trainings and do lighter, less exercise. She also listened well to me about how many supplements I would be willing to take so she made it incorporate very easy into my regimen and didn't overwhelm me with a bunch of stuff to take all day. I won't lie, changing my diet was a lot of work. And grasping the concept of not running 6 plus miles a day was kind of hard to take. But it was worth the time and investment for my well being. Here it is 10 months later, I am 15 lbs. lighter, I no longer have insomnia. (This is such a victory after struggling for nearly 2 years), my skin looks amazing and I feel so energetic. My pain went away each month and I now only have to deal with 5 days of bleeding vs. 10. I hit 40 and feel better than I did in my 20's! I have also figured out how to simplify my routine so you do get the hang of it and it does become less work after a while. In fact, I really enjoy it and am integrating nutrition into my wellness services at my place of work. There is no magic potion or cure. Dr. Korza will give you the tools to get you on the path to wellness but it is up to YOU to do the work. Remember why you came here and that YOUR health is absolutely worth the time and $$ investment.

Until they get their own Yelp account, I'm going to review their doctor on their behalf. I wish I was younger and Marcia would accept me as her patient. I would actually be happy just being younger but... anyway, she's the best doctor I have ever dealt with. No-nonsense yet friendly, she reminds me in a way of my mother. I have no idea why since my mother was a 4 ft 8 anal-retentive, ball-busting, nazi-Korean woman who terrified all those that knew her. (Really, she was all goo and honey inside). Marcia's approach is relaxed but knowledgeable in ways that put new moms at ease. I remember my daughter's first visit when she was 3 days old. After examining the baby, she asked me if my milk had come in. I just looked at her with that "how the fuck should I know?" look. Without a word, she reached in over my shirt, pulled out a boob and gave it the expert squeeze and out shot a stream of breast milk. "Yup - you got milk" is what she said. Some people would be put off by this but me? I knew that I made the right choice.

I mention her rural beginnings because she is down to earth and practical, in addition to funny, fast, intuitive, honest and observant. Our first child had major health issues and Marcia stuck with us all the way - couldn't have felt more supported. (She even came to our house at one point.) She's always been right on target with diagnoses and after a recent phone consultation, she sent me email articles about a concern with one daughter that proved incredibly helpful in figuring out next steps, including a referral. Our daughters are now "aging out" and I'm kinda sad that our days in those sunny exam rooms are behind us, but I know we must make room for more uncertain, worried new parents wanting the best for their children. (Also, 21 year olds just don't want to see a pediatrician!) Look no further - though compare if you must - you will return to "Dr. Marcia" if you want a combination of experience, compassion, intelligence and humor. The office staff has always excelled at staying on schedule and they also are good at answering/returning phone calls. I've used both offices, and though I prefer the Berkeley office it surely is nice to have so many options. We've seen Dr. Vo as well - she's great, too.

I was dealing with several new medical diagnoses at the time--which is never ideal when transitioning to a new doctor--but Dr. Beal has been absolutely incredible. This is my first experience with a provider outside of Kaiser, and I can honestly say I've never felt so heard or understood by a doctor. I used to think the doctors on TV who really get to know their patients were fictional--but not with Dr. Beal! She takes her time, never rushes appointments, and genuinely listens. She encourages questions and never makes me feel silly for asking anything, no matter how basic it might seem. Dr. Beal is working with me to build a care plan that actually fits me--not a one-size-fits-all solution. I'm honestly so thankful that I had to leave Kaiser, because it led me to her. Highly recommend!
