We had been out at local parks, attractions and DIY stores and on way home, decided to stop into a wee gem I had visited in the past with mum. The Twisted Thistle is in the middle of Old Kilpatrick and area of the village appears shabby but the TT is a modern bar/diner located in the shadow of the Erskine Bridge. The interior is very modern and kitchen is open where food prep can be viewed. It has a mix of tables for usual covers and open area with couches for bar adjacent for relaxed vibe. Both were reasonably busy but not overly so. Originally we ate here on a previous occassion as the Lusset ( a former old haunt) didn't do food any more - and sad to say it was very, very run down. However, that was to our benefit once we relocated to the TT. This trip around it was a late lunch / early dinner. I opted for chicken goujons and chilli dip with steak ciabatta as mains. Missus had the soup n sandwich deal. Our youngsters opted for the kids menu with soup and fish n chips for the wee fella and burger for the youngest lass. All were very happy with speed of service, quality of food and we all had a taste of each others grub. Every one agreed on very good value/taste and quality of meals as well as over all service. For me, the goujons were light and crispy and dip was very aromatic - not too sweet and not too spicy. The steak sandwich was cheapest on mains menu (typically tight) but the roll came with chunky steak sliced with onions and cheese. The ends were a little dry but the middle was moist and tasty. Potentially a little expensive for the location but the OK bunch do fancy themselves as a bit up market :) and it was reflected in the high quality of both grub and surroundings. The ambience for a quite quiet day was really good with some ladies lunching in the comfy seats and some lads propping up the bar area all lending to a good atmosphere. The place is very clean including the rest areas. Unknown to me from the previous visit, I spotted that there is a great function area to the rear, so family events could be catered for too - a nice option to learn about. I would like to visit on a weekend evening to check it out then as it's close enough to home to have a relaxed night out and not need to worry about an extended trek home. Plenty of upcoming events with music / DJ advertised such as Hallowe'en, etc. so another reason to nip down on a weekend and TV monitor was on wall with sound down so may be a good spot for watching any big games? In summary; reasonably priced when quality of experience is accounted for. Very very easily the top spot for eats in the Clydebank area. Legend has it that the Pie is SO good, folk even get it to take away. There's a Sunday Pub Quiz, Saturday DJ, and sport on the big screens. So why folk want a takeaway is a mystery to me!

Recently refurbished, they have split the main bar away from the Bistro to allow children to enter and reduce the noise. Good plan! The menu has been overhauled and they don't have as many dishes on the menu as before which is a lot better for the kitchen ensuring quality over quantity. I ordered King Prawns with Calamari, my mom Haggis Fritters and my sister in law Black Pudding in Breadcrumbs with a Chilli Sauce. No complaints. They were tasty and well presented. We then ordered Balmoral Chicken, Fish & Chips and a Chicken Burger. Portions are extremely good for the price, food was cooked fresh to order and of a good quality. There was only 1 staff member within the bistro when I was in looking after 4 tables, which was okay but we did have to wait at times to be served; not her fault though. The dishes are a little expensive for a Bar Bistro in Erskine, but you'd expect to pay more if you dined in Glasgow for the quality and size of the portions. Our bill for 2 courses and numerous drinks for 3 people came to around £56. Not THAT bad when you think of it. All in all, the Whuppity Scourie is much better than it's predecessors and I hope it's hear to stay.

I have also noticed that they will cook fritters for you gluten free if you ask. The staff are really friendly and the prices are quite reasonable too. The only reason that this is not a 5 star review is that there is no disabled access to the main restaurant as it is upstairs so bringing my mum here is a no go and i would also like to see a few more items on the gluten free menu.

The first thing you'll notice about the Glen Lusset is that it's mighty spacious. There's a bar area and a restaurant area, and we were seated in a sort of covered dining room portion that allowed us to appreciate the drizzle just outside and being warm and toasty on the inside. Our service was prompt and friendly, and in no short order a variety of food had arrived for us to sample. For me, I'd decided one round of starches wasn't enough, and had some cajun potato skins (NOM) followed by a macaroni main with chips instead of the normal garlic bread (proof that I was thinking with mah belly). The food was delish, and I heard no complaints out of my friends either. The atmosphere was pleasant as well, with a wide variety of clientele, from folk our age, to families with children, and older folk all seemingly comfortable and enjoying themselves. All in all we left Glen Lusset feeling full and satisfied. If you're in the area, or like us, are travelers looking for a meal after some serious dram-age, then certainly give Glen Lusset a go!

Every day, they have a different offer on too; tonight was a free starter/dessert if you otdered a big plate. Ordering is done at the bar. I ordered the chicken skewers with piri piri sauce, lemon rice and a side salad with a coke. The waitress quivkly brought over a stand with cutlery and a range of condments in full sized bottles (not a sachet in sight!). Food arrived prompty and I started tucking into my meal.. I love spucy food and it's not often I say that something is too soicy but this piri piri sauce was HOT! The chicken was delicious but the highlight was the rice. I wasn't expecting to like it much (not a massive fan of lemon in savoury foods) but the balance was just right. The salad was okay, but not that exciting and I didn't like the salad dressing much. If I'm in the area I'd definitely head back but it wouldn't be my first choice.

For a while R34 was a restaurant and got good reviews for the quality and style of the food. It was open on Friday and Saturday evenings and the press cuttings on the wall suggest it was initially successful. Unfortunately the location has been the restaurants downfall. After the initial flurry of interest they've slowly and surely cut back the opening hours to the point where, today, they are better viewed as a budget restaurant or meal focused cafe that is only open during the week (and office working hours at that). The food is ok. Open for fairly standard breakfast offerings (think roll and sausage or toast) and at lunch there is a choice of three hot dishes, as well as a sandwich bar, soup of the day and a scattering of cakes. Due to the location, the bulk of the customers come from within the building (like myself) or another nearby office. Most afternoons will see some people popping in for a, reasonably good, coffee. The building warrants a mention, as R34 is housed within the India of Inchinnan building, a (listed) art deco frontage with a modern verdigris and glass dominated extension, which is most famous for being the site where airships used to be built (hence the R34 name). As for the cafe, there isn't much in the way of competition (Erskine and Renfrew not exactly hot spots when it comes to cafes and restaurants) so from that point of view it's good to have something dependable in the local area. If you are passing, and you'll spot the building as it's very distinctive, it's not a bad spot for a coffee or a quick bite to eat. Also, you might bump into me! (wait, that's not a selling point...).

We had them cater coffee and tea for the 7 of us and well as small finger sandwiches for lunch. I really love coffee (black) and tea (plain, no sweetener or cream) and usually don't get very good of either BUT have to say they provided what I have to say is the best cup of coffee I have had in many many years, maybe ever. Maybe ever is a pretty strong statement but have to say it was a joy then enjoy. Not too bold, very smooth, totally enjoyable. The finger sandwiches very very good with a very UK'ish selecting of meat and veggie finger sandwiches. Did not try breakfast or other foods while I was there BUT looking forward to a return trip.....

With extremely reasonable prices, Yan's offers all the standard Chinese fare as well as an extensive list of surprisingly not-absoluetly-horrific European dishes. Being the creature of habit I am, I can heartily recommend the chicken chow mein, which has always left my tastebuds satisfied and my heart appropriately sore the following morning. The one downside is that deliveries can sometimes take a while, particularly on weekends, and particularly if you're phoning to order a bouquet of rhododendrons and a packet of French Marigold seeds.
