Van's Landscape just completed a beautiful makeover of my yard that completely transformed it from weeds to a beautifully designed landscape. I went from having the ugliest yard on the block to having a yard that people slow down and look at as they go by. Kris Vanderschuit and his small crew worked to remove unwanted trees down to their roots, a backbreaking job. They set up forms to create a patio as well as stairs leading to the front door with lighted columns on either side. They had a beautiful pergola installed over the new front patio and created an area for me to have a fountain placed near the front windows. They planted trees and bushes that were bigger than I thought they would be, but still had plenty of room to grow. (In fact, the Agapanthus is blooming already.) They put in a sprinkler/drip system as needed and added beautiful lighting to the front yard. They did an outstanding job. read more

There are landscapers who are fly by night, and then there are professional landscapers who have the skill, experience and expertise to do the job right. Kris and his small but hard working crew fit into the later category. From the moment we had him come for a site visit and estimate, everything was handled with integrity and professionalism. Having only a few ideas on my mind, I relied on Kris' vast experience in botany and landscape design to put together a beautiful plan for our back and side yard while consulting with me along the way regarding preferences- and I was not disappointed. Our yard went from ugly dirt to a beautiful in about six weeks. A few particular items to note: He completed the project in the time window promised (among some very hot days); his crew was respectful of our home, worked hard and spoke English; he was always open to answer questions; he was he allowed for some work order changes in the middle of the project allowing us to install more outdoor lighting and more trees to the front; he was onsite every day to oversee the work of his crew; he gave us a 90-day guarantee on all the plants and trees; he tied in all of the landscaping with our existing drip irrigation system and programmed the unit; he was always up front on his pricing and the added costs for additional items; lastly--he went beyond the call of duty in returning after the project was complete to add some more mulch and help finish a few address some minor items. Granted, this project was not done inexpensively, but our backyard is now a beautiful space with curved patio lines, high quality astroturf, an attractive retaining wall, an elevated fire pit and beautiful planters with fruit trees, palms, grasses, and flowering plants that are well adapted to our soil and water conditions. I've asked these people to come out to my house for both my back yard and front yard. Three years ago, they were working in my area and I liked what I saw when they were done with my neighbors house. I asked them to give me a quote to do my back yard. This dragged on for about a month and half of asking when they would show up. They never showed. Here we are three years later and asking them come check out my front yard. Giving them the benefit of doubt because maybe they were slammed at the time. (Not an excuse to pick up the phone and say you're too busy). I've been asking for over two months now and here we go again. So, fool me twice, shame on me. I've seen their work, it's nice, but it's not worth the headache of waiting around and pushing back my project because of their terrible communication. read more

Exceptional work daily from start to finish. These guys are simply amazing! We were new construction so we needed full landscape for our front and backyard. You know how the contractors on HGTV have a detailed discussion with the homeowners and then create a specific plan with artistic renderings? You know how in real life a dude hops out of his truck with a measuring wheel and says, "we can do some concrete, some plants, it'll look nice, um...this much money," and doesn't even write anything down? Van's is more similar to what you see on TV. Kris and his team are true professionals. During the estimate phase, Kris had a real discussion with us about our overall vision for the landscape and design elements we like/dislike. After a week or so, he presented a custom proposal that was drawn to scale, including the exact placement and name of each plant. He gave us a realistic timeframe for when he'd be able to start working on our project. Once Kris and his team started work, they came every morning and worked into the afternoon everyday (except Sunday) until the project was finished. I really appreciated that they weren't juggling multiple jobs, disappearing for several days, as some do. We're very happy with the finished product. I'm giving them one star for the following reason. I called and asked about a quote, I was told that the husband would look at my property and call me back. I received a phone call letting me know that he had looked at my property on line, asking me what I was looking for and then he said he would draw up a plan and he would have a quote for me in a week. Before we hung up he asked me what my budget is, I said I'm a single mother not looking to spend too much but would like something nice done. He said ok call you in a week. That was the end of June. Today is July 13, I have called left messages and still have not heard from them. If he doesn't want to work with me, common. Courtesy would be to call me and sat that they don't want to do business with me. I didn't want to give a $$$$$ figure because I wanted to see what he can do and for how much first. I gave myself a budget of $2500 but I didn't want to say that cause I don't want to be taken advantage of either. I think is very unprofessional to not answer my calls or messages. To not tell me you don't want to work with me, believe me if that's the case I'll be good with that. There's other landscaping places. So the reason for my review is that, just common courtesy. After spending over $7,000.00 you'd think he'd at the very least return phone calls, finish the job and fix the leaks. We chose Van's based on a reference, but if you're a senior, I'd recommend choosing a different contractor so he doesn't take advantage of you too. read more

Hired above company to do our backyard landscaping. They started work before our plans were approved with the HOA. Owner told us he knew how things worked in the area, that being the reason for the early start. Installation went ok, once completed we noticed that there was moisture around the edge of the house where the DG had been laid over plastic. Upon speaking with the owner he stated there must be a water leak, he would come by and check it out. Never showed. My husband saw him again weeks later and he stated that the water was not his problem. My husband questioned him about the use of plastic since we had found out it was prohibited via the HOA. (Plastic does not allow for evaporation of water as well as ground odors.) At that point he stated he knew that had changed about a year ago but was using it anyway. He again stated he would come by and check it out. Never showed again. We realized that he was not interested in making things right with us in any way. There was no guarantee on work done at all and being lied to twice was not ethical as far as we are concerned. read more
