They abruptly closed the day after I started, leaving me to scramble to find another iop in a vulnerable state. I had planned to go to this virtual iop a week before I discharged from residential treatment and invested my time into intake appointments and paperwork for this to happen. Maybe it's for the best. My one day there (virtually) wasn't great. During my first group, Marlin did not introduce himself, the group, or acknowledge that I was new at all. I felt extremely awkward and disconnected. The group itself was very rudimentary and I got nothing out of it. The next group was a lot better, as Dr. Kajó was very welcoming and the group was very interesting. I did look forward to more of his groups. In the third and last group, Dr. Gitty was nice, but difficult to understand due to her thick accent. I wanted to take the time to review Vantage Point as they have been a real lifesaver for me and deserve to be acknowledged for their good work. I base my review on my personal experience, as well as compared to my multiple experiences in hospitals and institutions for metal health/substance abuse treatment. I entered Vantage Point's PHP (partial hospitalization program) after a brief stay in a hospital to readjust my mental health meds. Vantage Point was accommodating, compassionate, and understanding, as well as competent when I needed a competent team. They also have a schedule that works with most as I was insistent I don't take time off work. I'll mention a few of their highlights: Case management: This is a big one for me. This is the person who greases the wheels and keeps them spinning. This is your go-to person for everything you need, think you need or don't know you need. The case management I received was first class. Psychiatric care: Psychiatrists are expensive to keep on staff even partially, and my past experiences have been 5 minute summaries and out the door. Vantage Point was the first time in my life I felt the doctor was listening to me and my needs. I know I'm not alone, as during group sessions, the clients run a chat window that's monitored and encouraged by staff. Whenever the topic of the psychiatrist comes up, everyone chimes in on how much they like him and how well the care is. Therapy: I've decided to lump one on one and group therapy together as it's done by the same group of clinicians. The groups are solid, and there is a chat window for the group to communicate with each other. I thought it was stupid at first, but now I use it every group. The sessions are real work, so come prepared. My one on ones are work too. We got right down to some core stuff that is affecting my day to day life. I really respect my therapist, which is an important value to me. If you are struggling, don't put it off like I did. Call Vantage Point and find a program that works for your schedule. My experience at Vantage Point Recovery was life- changing. Every single member of their staff, from the receptionist to the facilitators to to the therapists, were fully present in their work, compassionate, and readily available to offer support above and beyond what I had expected from them. I was referred to the program by my phychiatrist, Dr. Rosenthal, who works at Vantage Point with PHP patients. I feel so much gratitude to him for this referral as it has helped change my life for the better. The program is well-organized and consistent and offers a variety of groups such as yoga and meditation, CBT, DBT, art therapy, SMART therapy, Solution Focused therapy, and Family Systems, to name just a few, as well as weekly private sessions with a therapist, case management guidance, and weekly sessions with the psychiatrist (for those in the PHP program). You will learn very practical coping skills to make everyday life easier so you can focus on what you really want to accomplish in your life. The employees are all genuinely compassionate people who are very approachable and always willing to listen and help. Having never done group therapy, I was hesitant, but quickly learned how beneficial it is to connect with people with similar issues to my own. When I began treatment at Vantage Point it was all in- person but soon had to go virtual due to the pandemic. The staff made every effort to keep the groups going in a way that still allowed for as much connection between clients and staff and between clients and other clients as possible. I believe their efforts were successful. I also want to make note of their professionalism and continuous diligence to keep their guidelines followed for the safety and anonymity of their clients. I always felt that Vantage Voint was a safe place and a home away from home. I would recommend Vantage Point Recovery to anyone struggling with a mental health issue. This will be a lengthy review, but I highly encourage you to read it in full if you are considering going to Vantage Point, or putting a loved one in at Vantage Point. The short and consolidated advice to you is to simply avoid this program at all costs. It is a money-hungry, unethical, unorganized, and fraudulent facility who preys on the vulnerable, the ill, and those who are in a position of desperation. I have gone forward and filed complaints against this facility in hopes of having it no longer operate, or at the very least, to bring attention to the corruption that resides in this facility. I have never in my 10+ years of therapy encountered a mental health professional (nor facility) that would display such abhorrent and inappropriate behavior in a vulnerable setting. It is my personal opinion that this facility should not be allowed to operate with it's current staff and advisors. From the beginning there were many red flags, which I overlooked because I was desperate for some therapeutic relief in a safe environment. The intake process is robotic, essentially you are treated as an inmate (which is ironic given that this is a voluntary program). Questions are read off to you regarding your personal medical, sexual, substance abuse, family mental health history, etc. as though they are reading nonchalantly from a script. It is done with zero empathy, compassion, or tact. If you do the 3 day program, you are only allocated 1 hour a week with your therapist. If you do the 5, you are allocated 2 sessions (two hours). Additionally, you are more than likely going to miss groups due to the therapist's scheduling conflicts (most of them don't work every day at the center and thus can not schedule all appointments outside of group, I was disappointed that the only time my therapist was available was during one of the groups that I was most looking forward to. IMO they are incredibly understaffed.) After two weeks of participating in the program (IOP / 3x a week), I had encountered numerous occurrences that highlighted how poorly operational the facility was. On various occasions there was a severe lack of communication between the staff and the clients. In two weeks, two of the counselors for the groups were out on vacation or sick (these things happen, no big deal), but the facility failed to bring in substitute counselors, and even on one day, we ended the day an hour early because the counselor who led group was not there. Another time, they just popped a movie in. I witnessed new-comers arriving, doe-eyed, terrified, and totally clueless as to what to expect. One individual had not met with the case manager and she had been there for three weeks. She was frustrated and articulated this at various points in the groups throughout the week. The case manager left for vacation this week (none of us knew this was happening), and no one was back-filling her, we had no one onsite specifically to manage our cases or answer questions specific to it. Additionally, I went and spoke with an individual last week and informed them that I felt as though I was feeling worse, not better, and I was advised that this was "typical and normal" and to try to "hang in there." One week later, that same individual told me that this was a "concern" and they no longer felt they could provide me with care. I was ultimately asked to leave Vantage Point because I brought a list of my concerns to the Director to review and discuss. Vantage Point clearly disliked that I made notes regarding these issues, and brought attention to the cracks and flaws in their program. I realize now that they felt threatened that I had the incentive and willingness to hold them accountable in not providing a consistent, resourceful, and communicative environment for their clients. It was easier for them to remove me, who was cognizant of the disorganization, rather than have accountability in rectifying the issues. The management did not know how long I had been in the program and I was told it was just "semantics" when I informed him that the length he stated was incorrect. It was evident that neither of the individuals advising me to leave had taken the time to review my file.The level of unprofessionalism, as well as the lack of moral & ethical awareness of the possible ramifications of "advising" a client to not return to the program is horrifying on so many levels; (verbatim: "in our professional opinion, you are not a fit for this program." To which I countered, "what if I respectfully disagreed with that and wanted to stay?" Essentially I was "recommended" to leave; in other words, they wanted me to leave, and to just keep my mouth shut and move along.) Also, keep in mind they did this three days before Christmas, a difficult time of year for many people making their thoughtless decision additionally more dangerous and irresponsible. read more

I was cautiously recommended to Vantage Point by my Kaiser case worker, who's concearn was it was 12 stepped based ( which they denied) From the moment I entered this program it was obvious that it was, and that a population of people dealing mental healthissues was limited at best. What unfolded was a "who's on first " of misrepresentations. This was not my first rodeo and I did my research and read the website up and back for the Modal and therapies they offered. At first only wanted to work with a woman, then I expressed that I would be open to a man because I needed a strong therapist. I was told that I would be starting the next day that was a Thursday . I was told since my intake was not finished that one of the administrators would seek me out within the day to finish my intake. After inquiring about when i would meet with her , my intake I felt like i had to chase her down and by the end of the day ( apparetly she was sooo busy ) and asked why that didnt happen. This is where i also stated i need a strong thereapist so it didnt matter the sex. From the moment I walked into the programm I had no idea where i was going , and what i was doing hence i was told to get paper telling me the groups for the day. I walked in the group room. There was fitness, I wasnt told of the attire so I sat out. Then there was ART therapy. The groups were larger then any programm I researched or had been to . There was only one facilatator to up between 24 to 30 people at times. It was extreamly overwhelming ( being that I was already vunerable ) . I was taken back at how disengaged people were and that people were coloring or on thier i phones. I engaged in the project that was to drawn a happy memory of your childhood. Each person was to hold up the art piece and speak to it. When it was my turn I told the story about a tree and its color and how that i had been disassociated . The few people that did look up ( in a group of 25 ) had blank faces and no idea what I even meant , Even the therapist running the group had nothing to say and moved on to the next person. When I brought this to the attention of the adminstrator her response was " well you should of said " HEY, Im feeling like noone is replying and doesnt understand me. Keep in mind # 1 this was my first day , and #2 it is the responsibility of the facilitator.. Asserting myself is not a weakenss of mine and certianly not why i was needing Intensiive therapy. I at that point was very aware that "yes " in fact this was geared more to being a substance abuse treatment center and was then taken to a bathroom where a woman came in at watched me pee. I was not there for drug abuse and was very upset at being treated as if I was. Immediately I voiced my upset about the size of the group and seeing that this programm was clearly a treatment center for Drugs rather mental health. I was told by the psychitrist that in fact it only started to intergrate mental health only three months previously . ( the administrator denied this saying the programm had been around 5 years therefore discounting what the Doctor , ( who's care I was under ) said. Apparently the Treatment center for drug addicition was 5 years old. It left me feeling like some sort of a Guineapig for a new experiment that the clearly were winging . I found myself beyond stressed out , more anxious and reactive then ever and my family was extreamly concearned at my distress. I will outline some things that discredited the programm they were mainly offereing and the incompatence of the many therapist ( although wonderful for people in a substance abuse dual diagnois enviornment ) regarding treating a population of mental health people with seriously Trauma , and other disorders. Statements said . 1, dont know that treatment will look on website, admin reply, therpist dont go on website. #2 deperssion is good unless your on pharmaceuticals. #3 should go to sober lving . Im not a drug user #4 your expectations are to high, I say , then dont offere them on your site. #5. Assert yourself, I do not lack in that , im not there for that . # 6 had to participate in several groups geared at addicition and what i could do . Im not a user #7 This is a Substance abuse programm #8 group told were not focusing today on why but now. then writes why on the bo #9 was told my work there started at asserting myself. #10 no one could related in the programm to me , mostly struggeling with addiction #11 Regarding my case work was told they didnt have correct information. I have only been in rolled here for three weeks and since the day I enrolled I have been asking for a letter to give to the court. Not only do they keep not giving me the letter even though I keep telling them every week several times a week I need it when I called several times the day before I had court a woman answered the phone abruptly and told me she knew who I was and basically that I was harassing her and she was going to call the police. I was very shocked by this since I had only called five times from eight in the morning until 1 PM. I understand that that is a lot of times but when the business does not answer any of those times I don't think it's a problem to call back since I was not able to leave a message and I really needed the letter for court the next day. After the woman threatened to call the police on me she hung up on me abruptly. Her name was "Merritt" I'm not sure if that's how it is spelled. Basically I am in early recovery and I'm dealing with a lot in the last thing I need is to not have the support of my outpatient program. I feel that the staff here is extremely insensitive and I would recommend anyone looking for a place to have a strong support system and recovery program to steer clear from Vantage recovery. I really wish that I never enrolled here and I'm going to be looking at other outpatient programs immediately read more
