If you're looking for a cushy place to not drink or do drugs for a few weeks, this place might work…read moreout for you. If you're looking for quality, mental health care, I CANNOT recommend NuLife. The biggest issue with NuLife is its owner, JD Meints. Although JD has zero mental health training (just a finance degree from SDSU), he played an incredibly active role in what became a shockingly disappointing and traumatic experience for me at NuLife. JD routinely abused his power as "Founder and CEO" to insert himself into my care in inappropriate ways. He made a point to sit and talk with me every few days, consistently resulting in detrimental impacts on my care. JD walked in on a one-on-one session I was having with my primary therapist, sat down, and started typing at his computer. I was in the middle of opening up about being molested as a 7-year-old, but his intrusion completely compromised the trust I had built in order to attempt to move past my abuse. Additionally, JD at one point told me he was the "most Alpha guy around." He also stared me down -- like he wanted to physically fight me. Another one of my sit-downs with JD induced the only panic attack I've ever had in my adult life. I ended up needing to pay for more, better therapy just to get past what JD had put me through...and charged me a small fortune for. Bottom line: if you want a professional, qualified group of people to help you achieve a healthier mental state, my recommendation is that you look elsewhere.

The counselors that they have there genuinely want to be there to guide you in the process of letting go. I attended this facility for the full amount of four months and learned so much about myself it is astonishing. I have now been clean and sober for 3 years dated december 5th. I had one minor slip up after i left which was all of my doing. What Nulife can teach you and what you can obtain here is only a God send. They have great client advocates as well. Ones you can talk with without holding back that care and want you only to succeed in what ever life has for you. I actually recording a freaking music track there in one of there music sessions to release all my tensions. Got in good shape ate great food slept well and we all know detoxed comfortably (sounds crazy)! Look thank you Nulife for helping me start a new life. I am and will be forever grateful.

I was in true despair and was ready to throw it all away, everything I had worked so hard for, all of it, it was horrible. By chance we found this facility and it was exactly what I needed. I was ready and willing to do whatever it took to get myself back in order and La Ventana gave me the tools that are necessary to make that happen. The staff treated me like family and everyone on board is passionate about what they do. I was given the structure and encouragement I needed, they were patient with me and let me be myself. They absolutely went above and beyond for me and my family and I will be forever grateful to them. I'm so glad we found this facility and my new extended family. Thank you EVERYONE at La Ventana, we got this!!!

Prominence will have a place in my heart forever. 10/10 would recommend to anyone trying to stay sober!

BNI is the WORST treatment center you could possibly put your child in!!!…read morePARENTS!! DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE SEND YOUR CHILD HERE!! I was a patient at BNI over 4 years ago, and I can confidently say the treatment I received there ruined my life. The staff was horrible from day 1. They liked to make fun of the way I looked, my clothes, and how emotional I was my first week there. (News flash, I was a mentally ill emo teenager of course I looked weird.) The psychologist I had there got fired 11 days into my stay for breaking HIPPA. The psychologist after that told me that the reason I hated my father (who is mexican and arabic) is because I am a racist. Not because he is a narcissistic person who abused my mother and I. She argued with me over that for the remainder of my 3 month long stay. I entered BNI struggling with substance abuse, suicidal ideation, and BPD. There was another patient who was at BNI for a very similar reason. They encouraged us to make friends, since we would be living with these people. What they didn't tell us was that this other patient was a pedophile. This other patient entered BNI for the second time, 2 days shy of their 18th birthday. This patient sexually assaulted me on the living room couch and the staff did nothing about it. Until it became a problem for them. Because BNI goes by the age you enter the program at, so technically what the other patient did to me was not illegal or child molestation. After BNI I entered a relationship with that individual who abused me for the next 2 years. I believe I would have found peace, and have gotten better a lot sooner had I not been sent to BNI.

If you're reading this right now, life is probably a bit hard. Maybe a lot hard. And maybe you…read moredon't even know where to start on this search. I looked at all the places. I did my research. We were desperate, but if a residential placement had to happen, I wanted it to be excellent so we would never have to do it again.  The first thing which made BNI stand out was that they hired doctoral-level therapists to work with the students and their families. I'm in the counseling field myself and knew we would need someone very experienced and knowledgable due to the complicated nature of my daughter's situation.  The second thing that made BNI stand out was Doug, who was in charge through the entire admissions process. Of all the places I called, Doug was the only one who didn't just tell me the (astronomical) price of their program. He immediately asked for my insurance info, called my insurance company, and then came back with a shockingly affordable proposal. BNI is not just out to make a buck. It was clear every step of the way that their true desire was to help these hurting kids and their families. Thirdly, through our time at BNI I came to realize what a difference it made to be in a program owned by adolescent psychiatrists. The doctors were so invested! And not just in figuring out the right meds (which they did superbly). In my daughter's first week there Dr. O was taking the girls out on an early morning hike to look at plants. This would not happen in any other treatment program! Dr Schwartz was our therapist and she was simply amazing. Able to connect with each member of the family, guide us through hard conversations while validating each of our experiences, and seeing the best in us. We learned new ways to work through the hard parts of life together. She was priceless. This program focuses on teaching the students how to live and cope once they are back home. A skills based approach that really works. My daughter has been home for about 7 months and I will be forever grateful for the changes she went through at BNI. She says, with all seriousness, that she would probably be dead if it weren't for BNI. While that is hard to hear, it only increases my gratitude for this program. Are things perfect? Of course not! They didn't send back a robot. But I do have the best version of my daughter back and there is nothing more for which I could ask.
