I've been working out at VASA for a few months now and this is my honest review. The gym itself has great equipment and everything you would need to get a great workout in. The hours are extremely flexible being open from 4am-12am most days of the week and I really love that they have a big kids club for parents to be able to have childcare during their workouts. All the staff I've interacted with have always been very polite. Now for the not so good. Most hours of the day, this place is crowded. Certain machines that are extremely popular are very hard to get access to which requires me to wait around for the machine I need. I also get approached numerous times by people asking me how many sets I have left or if they can work in with me. There are a lot of people in their late teens/very early 20s that use this gym as a social club. They will utilize the machines together and stay on for over 30 minutes not allowing other members to have a turn. A lot of people do not wipe their equipment and there seems to be no signage or enforcement to encourage people to do so. I have also noticed that weights don't get put back in the correct spaces or at all in some cases with a few wobbly weight benches and divots in the floors next to the weight racks that you can easily trip in. I love the recovery room and red light therapy but I really wish that yoga was a part of the regular membership instead of requiring an upgrade. The locker room doesn't provide hair dryers, towels or any hygienic items as other gyms do. I'm continuing to use Vasa as of now, but I'm keeping my options open for other gyms in the area that would be less crowded. read more

Be careful with your teen girls here. There's a PT named Chris that lies about his age to get with younger girls (36, said he's 29 to a 19 year old). Then proceeds to hit on her younger sister who's 16. He may still be there since the GM Brian stood by his side even after i submit complaints to him and my PT at the time, Dan. i think the assistant manager Nicole started hiring even younger girls too. Also the PT Andrea has her kid in tae kwon do and learning about asian culture and yet liked to repress and oppress me for singing or expressing myself through YouTube content. Koreans are loud and expressive people, we've been oppressed for it for centuries. Cultural appropriation much. Tried to reactivate my finances account through the app but wasn't working. Representative in front said to make her a linked member instead and that would solve the issue. I asked about the $79.99 enrollment fee and if they would waive that since she already paid it. Said they would refund me after I reactivated and paid. 3 weeks go by no resolution. Great people at the Matteson, Illinois facility. I gave this review because it's hard to get real help from the Corporate office and every turn is an additional money grab. Be ware of what you're signing up for and the fees. You may want to keep it simple at some of the small gyms in the area. read more

Aweful experience. Won't go into that. Thought signing up for $15 a month. First month free and could cancel. No 3 days. Signed tablet Did not see a contract. Went 3 times and cancelled. Received 2 bills $ 49 and $122. Refused to pay. Called. They said I signed contract which I never read. Pay or go into collection. Talked several people. They listened but no one could help. First woman totally rude. Bottom line. NO SATISFACTION. $200 for 3 visits. I had many problems. Greeters nice. Corporation sucks. Below one star. Be careful what u sign read more

Most of the gyms I've been to in recent years have lowered their standards on a clean space and quality of equipment. This normally would be understandable for an expanding commercial gym however.. they will charge you yearly for a membership that is inactive without notice. Their terms and agreement apparently makes this legal. Normally when becoming a member at a gym, you pay first, and get the next year since it's paid for. Not Vasa. Apparently they charge you for a service that was provided to you prior to payment? Even if you freeze your membership and stop going. Tell me how that makes sense. Paying for something that you aren't going to use should be refundable. Paying a subscription for a service AFTER subscription period is NOT how subscription works. You're meant to pay, then play. Not the other way around. But vasa doesn't care. They will not refund your money and no matter how calm you are on the phone, the customer service reps will constantly interrupt you, and the conversation will lead nowhere. d Between the dirty spaces, broken equipment, lazy staff that won't clean up, and awful over the phone customer service, I've decided I'm never going to another Vasa again. Neither will anyone I know personally. My entire social circle used to love this gym. They've gone down hill so much, and after this we've all decided never to go there again. Great gym, good setup, good equipment. Problem is with xsport closing down, too many people are coming here now. Please double or triple the price and or open another location. This much traffic makes for people hovering you waiting for the machine you're working out on and it's too much wear and tear for the place to keep up with. I love my Northbrook vasa! Anyu, Brian and Aaron are all so fun and engaging. Especially Anyu. I am greeted with smiles every time I walk in, but Anyu has really paid attention to my health issues and has follow up questions and suggestions every time. She has been a breath of fresh air to the whole team- they are all noticeably more friendly and pumped to be there- I don't take a ton of classes but got in with one of Aaron's today and it was so fun... I was intimidated to try to sauna and steam room for the first couple of months because it's coed, but it's really no big deal. I DO wish they had actual tanning booths like the site claims- not just red light therapy. These are different types of machines and I do feel that was misleading. And on the site it does say there are pools and hot tubs but my location does not have either which is a bummer. The locker rooms are almost always spotless and the showers are nice and large, though water pressure is lacking. I just scheduled my pt appt and I look forward to that session! There is great turf space for functional strength training and there are always enough weights to go around if you just look- I love the inferred yoga classes too! I've taken a couple of the dance classes and a bunch of the studio red HIIT classes and will continue to... All in all, this gym is absolutely amazing-- if it had a hybrid uv/red light therapy tanning booth I'd be so thrilled! read more

Absolutely loved VASA! I wish there was a closer location to me. Equipment is phenomenal, facility is huge but not too big to the point where it's overwhelming. Beautiful locker rooms and beautiful facility. My only point off is that there is COED sauna and steam room which I definitely do not like the idea of. Regardless, not going to knock a star off for just that. Staff is very very nice and price is a little too nice! I've never seen such a developed facility for as cheap as Vasa is. read more

My New favorite gym! VASA Northbrook was suggested to me by a buddy and he gave me a link to a trial pass. Boy do I not regret using that. It's prob the best gym I've been to. Astonishing amenities at an amazing price! 24.99 a month and you get a great environment, great lighting, great machines, great atmosphere, and great amenities like a sauna and steam room. Def recommend this place to anyone trying to find a great gym! read more

I love Vasa but my privacy was invaded, I was changing in the locker room and a group of guys were filming as they were flexing in the mirrors. There are signs that prohibit this, and I'm pretty sure I was in the reflection of the mirror as I was still changing. I wanted to ask them to stop but I'm not confrontational. I might cancel my membership unless Vasa can protect people's privacy better. read more

This place is run down. They have old machines with wear and tear on them. Showers don't work except two. One being a handicap stall with half a curtain on it. Now here is the real kicker, I was assaulted by another member. I called the police, they removed the assailant and then the gym cancels my membership because I defended myself. They will not have your back as a victim. I guess they want you to be injured and assaulted. There are nicer gyms in the area, with the same amenities and nicer people. read more

The good: lots of leg equipment, back equipment and benches, all spread out. The bad: not enough shoulder machines and the weight plates are a disorganized mess. No incremental dumbbells, so you they're all five lb. Jumps. The staff doesn't seem to care about it when asked about the policy of putting weights away. "I guess we can come around and put it away." For a new gym, I was hoping they'd have some of the newer bars for the pulley machines. Nice locker room and functional training area. Good yoga class. There is a variety of equipment and it's cheap but that's where the positives end. It's extremely crowded weeknights but that's no fault of the gym. The negatives they can control and don't seem to care to outweigh the good. I've never been to a more unorganized gym. Weights are scattered throughout and never put back on the rack, bars are never stripped and equipment is never wiped down. On top of that garbage cans are often overflowing. I've never seen an employee attempt to clean or look up from their phone for that matter. I guess you get what you pay for but Planet Fitness which is comparable in price is much cleaner and kept in considerably better shape. Not sure if there is a manager at this VASA, but if there is they may want to tighten the reigns just a bit unless you're strictly trying to appeal to teenagers. For a relatively new health club it's already taken a turn for the worse. read more

My initial enthusiasm of this gym has plummeted due to the unreasonably loud volume of the piped in music. I invested in noise cancelling headphones specifically so I could continue working out here but it's still a challenge to overcome such a high level of noise. I tried VASA northbrook for a couple months and won't be back. The weights and cardio sections are loud and full of people blocking machines and videotaping. Weights are always a mess. Evenings are packed with high school boys. It is not cleaned well. I got a foot infection from the studio or locker room. You have to bring a lock for the tiny lockers instead of having codes like other gyms. Every time I was there the managers were standing around the front desk gossiping. It's surprising to hear them laughing and talking about the way people look. The front desk staff doesn't greet people and are on their phones. Some of the group classes are excellent some are terrible. The manager of the group classes fired one of the really good yoga teachers to hire one of her meh friends. That manager also teaches dance and she was groping and grinding with her partner on stage a few weeks ago. She posted the video on fb and took it down. VASA should be embarrassed. VASA has a lot of reviews about bad management so I guess trashy and fake is normal. There are other clubs with better and cleaner equipment and have decent managers and employees. read more
