I will not be bullied by an abusive member at this club. And no, a confrontation by a man trying to intimidate a female member off a machine by standing next to her and staring her in the face is not a disagreement between "two reasonable adults." And no, I didn't start it. Nearly every day, the seated leg press machine is constantly in use. There is only one machine of this exact kind, and it's a popular machine. I have to wait more than 1/2 hour for it sometimes. This includes waiting for people scrolling their phones, talking to their friends, etc. So when I finally do get to use it, I'd appreciate it if I didn't have a club member in his undershirt staring me in the face. When I told him to move away, he resorted to a series of insults that were reported to management. I really don't know what his psychiatric situation is or how long he's been a member. No one should have to tolerate this, and it should not be dignified as "two reasonable adults." He's clearly used to getting his own way. he was sneering the rest of the time he was there, occupying said machine for a long time. If I'm spoken to like this again, it will be a police matter. Very disappointed with how this gym treats long-time members. Despite being a loyal customer, I was denied access due to a membership timing issue during circumstances outside of my control. There was no flexibility, no understanding, and no effort to accommodate the situation. Customer service felt cold and purely money-driven. Loyalty clearly doesn't matter here. I also do not like how the staff constantly cleans in front of your face here. They can be cleaning the stairs while people are walking down the stairs, or spraying chemicals underneath your treadmill while you're running so you have no choice but to breath that in. Cleaning the bathrooms constantly, however, needs to be done since that's the area that obviously tends to get the dirtiest the fastest. That, I would get. Let me first say that I have been going to gyms for over 30 years and have had memberships at Xsport, Lifetime, La Fitness (aka Bally's). I haven't been to this place in about six months and I have to say that the gym is decent for an LA fitness but the locker room is in the bottom 10% with only the one on Finley in Downers Grove being worse. I just wanna say how I hate this place, never gonna use LA fitness ever. I mean that's so confusing, stuff is so unprofessional. I cancelled my membership really long time ago, it was like a year. But when I was explaining stuff they said NO it was few months ago, like I know better how long ago was it. Also they said that I owe them money, like FOR WHAT?? Quick quarantine update: This review was written during the Phase-3 COVID-19 pandemic. This location requires mask wearing at all times, which I like. I've been to a couple of other suburban LA Fitness in Illinois at the mask wearing has been hit-or-miss. Everyone was wearing their mask properly (over their mouth and nose) and it was not too crowded, when I went on an early Friday afternoon in November. First let me state the obvious. It's an old gym. It isn't fancy the equipment is rusty. But, I wasn't looking for a place to hang out all day. When I work out I wanna get in do my routine and get out....this place fits the bill. If you are looking for a country club gym...this isn't it. I appreciate that lil kids are not running around and that Barbie and Ken don't go here either....so it's perfect for me. It has everything you need....no outside pool, they have a dry sauna, free weights, the normal treadmills stair steppers recumbent bikes, classes, everything a larger gym has without the hassle of the monster gyms. So while it has older equipment you are not paying for state of the art stuff either. It's a great basic gym....if you don't want flashy or have to compete for equipment with Barbie and Ken. "Regular" people go here and I am a very regular person. I don't dress up to go workout! read more

During peak times it is crowded. Parking is shared with multiple businesses around so you might get a warm up walking from your car to the gym. The front desk workers were friendly. I have them my friends name as she got there before me and got in with no issues. A friend was able to bring me in with their guest pass and it the gym from what I saw has lots of equipments and different services available. I attended the zumba class and it was fun and a pretty popular class so if you want a decent spot you have to get there early. The instructor was so friendly and easy to keep up with. I may go back to check out all that they have to offer. But I really enjoyed the zumba class. read more

Glenview location. There are many people that enjoy the silver sneakers class, however its become a big problem. Classes are cancelled often due to the instructors absence. These classes are usually replaced with a yoga class which involves seniors getting down on the floor. Why can't you have safe chair yoga as a replacement? Why should about 40 seniors be inconvenienced because the teacher didn't show. The prior teacher always showed up for class. Perhaps its time to hire someone reliable. Seniors pay the fee to join the club and deserve respect and reliability. Front desk workers don't have any power to make changes, whoever does the hiring needs to be held accountable. read more

I've been a member of this gym for a few years now and I have to say that the sales staff has gotten noticeably pushier. I'm already a member, so that sale was made a long time ago, but that's not enough. Now, they are pushing members to bring along their friends/spouses so that they can put them through another annoying sales pitch. If anyone gives this place a trial, I always advise them to block the gym's number. Otherwise, be prepared for a barrage of phone calls. The other annoying thing is them having outside vendors come in. So, once you get past the salesperson at the desk, you're stopped yet again by someone else--usually someone peddling free spinal checks. When did LA Fitness start to feel like a marketplace? The real workout I'm getting here is dodging these people. read more

Always clean, locker room is clean, the jets in the spa could be a little stronger but that is a personal preference, my trainer Paul is very motivating and gives excellent advice on how to exercise and my eating habits. OK it's been a year and this place has had its ups and downs since then. Am writing again today because I was astonished at what happened. Working out, finished and was all sweaty as usual and went to get towels at the towel dispenser clean the machine. None in that one, went to the second, then the third, then the fourth. All were empty. Went to ask at the front desk - "yes we're all out of towels. They're on order." So I suggested they be a little more proactive than waiting around for towels to show up while we are all using equipment that is sweaty and disgusting. "Why don't you go to bed bath and beyond and buy a few hand towels and some spray bottles so people can use those to wipe down the machines while you wait for the paper towels to come in." The general manager looked at me like I was from Mars. The cost-cutting at this place is ridiculous, and it seems to me like some sort of health violation. read more

Probably the other LA fitness still are incredible. Unfortunately the one on Willow and sanders. Let us down after being regularly there. Francisco their new manager of front desk, believes he's the owner of a small business. He's intolerant and not customer affable. He was very harsh with my 14 year old kid. I was there to supervise him. He just wanted to shoot some hoops the courts were empty , it was a week day and he just needed to feel normal after being in the hospital due to side effects of the vaccine. We had being clients as a family since 2020 when Nick Jones was working there and things were very straight forward and very pleasant the whole experience. My entire family left. I'm sure we are nothing in the big spectrum. My husband is still a member he goes now somewhere else and still has a personal trainer. But all my kids that where having training and specially my little big giant basketball baby that lived there before and had personal training 3 times a week will never go back. This is heart breaking because this was our place. This is so sad. read more

This is the first gym I signed up for because it is next to my work. It's an okay gym because a lot of times machines are not available or people don't put away the balls/weights so hard to find equipment. I haven't checked out the pool yet. I go because of convenience but on my way home is the LA Fitness in Arlington Heights which is much better (looks wise too) Another reason this gym is okay is because I did the personal trainer program for a year. When I first started, my trainer was Harvey which lasted for a couple months because he went on vacation and then was being unresponsive to text messages and nobody at the gym had heard from him. When I tried talking to the front desk, they redirected me to the manager of the program who didn't even know who Harvey was and there was a lack of communication. I felt confused, lost, and wanted my money back. I even contacted Corporate which was no help... When after sometime I finally was given a new trainer Nicole. She was great and we became friends- shout-out to her for being flexible, understanding, and helping me for months at the gym by showing me different exercises. The locker rooms are clean for the most part but the gym sometimes gets so hard that the fans don't do anything. Overall, I get my work out in and helps avoid the rush hour! read more

The gym itself is fine if you work out and go home without using the locker room. The only downside is having to listen to the terrible music that will sneak past your headphones. I assume management is forced to play some corporate LA Fitness channel that is geared towards school aged kids, its god awful, I don't know how the employees deal with hearing the same garbage every day. If you plan on using the locker room (mens) then I would pass on this facility. I would think with how ghetto the locker room is that management has never been in it. -Showers frequently have cold or pee warm water - I have complained to management about this so much that I just gave up and deal with shrinkage. -The motion sensing faucets frequently do not work so if you get stuck at one that doesn't work you need to buddy up next to one of your sink neighbors and share. -My biggest gripe is the TVs in the locker room. If it were up to me, I'd take the TVs out of the locker room completely. All they do is cause congestion because people stop getting dressed and stand there in front of the lockers like a degenerate and watch the TV while other people are trying to get dressed and get to work. The locker rooms are way overcrowded to begin with, they don't need anything else contributing to the misery. There are three TVs and each one has a different news channel on with the volume up. So now your brain is scrambled with audio from three different news programs AND the putrid LA Fitness music playing above your head. LA Fitness is obsessed with having the news on the TVs which constantly leads to members having uncomfortable political discussions. The last thing I want to do is listen to naked hairy men argue about politics first thing in the morning. I have relayed my frustrations with LA Fitness regarding this and they just relay everything to the operations manager who apparently does not share the same frustrations. If there were alternatives near this location I would switch to them in a heartbeat. P.S. Be careful not go get run over by coffee fiends going through the Starbucks drive through, they'll run you over! read more

We stopped in last night to check out the NEW LA Fitness club on Willow Road up in Glenview. It's a totally new building and facility. I have been a member of first Chicago Health Club, then Bally's through 3 or 4 owner changes while always keeping the same Bally's name. On the last change Bally's was bought out by LA Fitness. Since then the name has changed. This is a beautiful club with all new equipment, but the spacing inside is very tight. The one thing lacking on all the LA Fitness Clubs is a steam sauna and a track. For whatever reason they don't seem to include these 2 features in any of their new gyms. Still I'm resigned to being a member for life because I have a $40/year membership. NO ONE and I mean NO ONE can touch that rate so I am locked for life read more

The sales person did not mention annual fee at all and my friends and I were charged 49 annual fee each person on the second month after joining and when we found it and argued with them but they don't admit. The manager's attitude is very bad. His name is Mike! This behavior is same with robbery. And said no record for the conversation and maybe we are lying. Wtf? And he questioned my friend whether she can read when he passed us corporation information to call. His behavior is so impolite and unrespectful. Why not ask us give u money directly. No trust at all. I strongly suggest reading agreement word by word before you sign. They hide much information behind the agreement. read more

I stopped in and used this facility for the first time this week Thursday and I was surprised and disgusted to see not one but TWO cockroach bugs in the ladies shower room. Another regular informed me that is common and has been complained about numerous times. I told the man at the front desk and he was nonchalant when stating they were aware and management feels that people are bringing them in from outside the gym. I usually frequent one that is bunted next to a Chinese food buffet and have never seen one there in 7 years. These bugs can multiply and if a customer takes on on their belongings it can infest their home in a very short period. I will not be attending this location again. read more

As a long time member, I am very disappointed with the lack of attention given to combat the rampant theft that takes place at Willow and Sanders. They cut your lock off the locker and go through your things taking whatever they can. This happens during peak hours too. It must be more than one person working together, look out etc. If you go to this location take safeguards don't take your wallet, credit card, cash anything of and think that it will safe in a locked locker. When you report it to staff at the front desk they give you a look of indifference as they heard it before. read more

Ive been a member here for about half a year now. My monthly membership is about 25$ and i pay an annual fee as well. This is a reasonable price for the value of the gym and equipment. The staff is generally friendly but sometimes it gets crowded at peak times. Can usually find a machine or weights to use though. I'm a member since Nov 2017. And what I joined for was the group fitness classes which I enjoy and find them to be very effective. However I've been noticing that classes have been cancelled without proper notification to members - no update on the app, no notice pasted on the door of the activity area - so basically no way for the member to know until they actually come to class and wait and then find out it's been cancelled. This has happened to me three times in the last two months. One class was cancelled and there were about 15 of us waiting in the room, another member volunteered to take the class since she happened to be a certified trainer. And what does the front desk staff and manager have to say? Oh we don't manage that part, the coordination needs to be done by the aerobics dept.!!! Yesterday they even argued with me that the 5:45 class was cancelled on the app. And it wasn't - attached a pic to prove this. I really appreciated his honesty and willingness to help us understand all the pricing options and the best route for our situation. Since we move around a lot we needed a membership we could use anywhere and not have to pay extra for certain locations. It isn't uncommon to get pushed into paying a lot for a gym membership and employees trying to sell you as much as possible--I mean this in the general sense. But Francisco was genuine and tried to save us money. He took his time with us to explain our options and promptly set us up with another employee that could help with the paperwork. I go to this location on the weekends since it's closer to my house. Albeit the locker room is nicer than most LA fitness locations, this location doesn't have the amount of equipment as others I have been to. The locker rooms are not that clean either and the people working the front desk aren't as welcoming. With all that said, this place does have enough good equipment to have a quality work out. The equipment is new and state of the art. I'm just happy they have this gym close enough to my house. read more

Today I witnessed a young lady at the gym working out when she noticed a paper towel dispenser was empty. Unbeknown to myself she was gym staff on her own time that went to refill all the dispensers on the first floor. That was very cool to see. I only wish that there were a few more machines that use plates for back exercises such as Hammer Strength or Nautilus. read more

Please do not join LA Fitness at this location or any location. This is a terrible company. I have been mistreated, harrassed, and scammed by this company. I would go into more detail but it is just way too long to explain in a review and was hard to explain in even an hour phone call. They basically got me to sign up and promised certain terms but then decided they didn't want to hold up to their promise. It wasn't included in the contract so they actually told me, "I'm sure we promised you at that time but we didn't include it in the contract you signed so...too bad". I called on 02/22/2019 to cancel my membership. On 02/21/2019, Edgar and the manager told me that if my project in Deerfield, IL didn't work out, I could call in and cancel my membership. I told them that signing up would be an issue because I would not be able to come in on Friday, this is the day I found out whether or not I would be flying to Chicago every other week, I found out on Friday that I didn't have to fly back. As soon as I found out, I called and cancelled. Edgar and some other guy that worked there told me two different times because I called two different times that it would be all taken care of. On Satuday, I spoke to a women at the front desk at the same location and asked her if she can tell me whether or not my account was cancelled. She told me it was not cancelled and that it was still active with no notes about be calling in on Friday to cancel. She then proceeded with telling me that I had 5 business days to cancel and according to the contract it says 3 in order for me to get a FULL refund. The times I contacted the LA Fitness are as follows: 02/22/2019 2:09 PM CST - Edgar said he would take care of it and cancel my account. 2:46 PM CST - Whoever picked up the phone at that time said he has my info and will send me a cancellation notice that the previous guys didn't sent. 02/23/2019 3:01PM PST - Young lady at the front desk confirmed membership is still active and no notes of me calling in to cancel it 02/25/2019 9:15 AM PST - Spoke with the Operation Manager Mark and he said he would take care of it and because it was 3 days, not 3 business days as stated in the contract he would have to push this issue to his manager to resolve, but will cancel it and send me a cancellation email It is 12:40 PM PST - I have yet received an email stating that I called and cancelled the membership. Just to play it safe I am also sending this cancellation letter to let you know that I am cancelling this membership. Please refund the amount charged to my credit card. read more
