Friendly neighborhood bar with mixed tunes playing. Dogs are welcome, so bring your furry bestie along for a night time pick me up.

Dive bar in the midst of Bywater - that caters to those who want live music and drinks. There's minimal fuss and no cover charge. You can grab a couple of drinks at the bar and head outside for some live music. We went on a Friday night to hear the Treme Brass Band. There's no where other than New Orleans - where you can drink, dance and party on the sidewalk. Definitely have to experience it, if you're in the city!

This bar is one of my favorites in New Orleans. If you have an opportunity to go here to watch a Saints game, I strongly recommend it! Great neighborhood bar!!

Super chill neighborhood dive bar w/ live music. We walked over from Bacchanal's after dinner. Can be a bit of a sketchy neighborhood in spots. When we walked up, they were grilling up fresh plates of food that sounded amazing. Great band was playing, but was $20 cover, and we only wanted to stay for one drink, so we hung out outside w/ some of the other folks, and the bartender came out and took our drink order. Met some colorful locals, then took Lyft back to French Quarter. Cool experience.

This is the most sketchy looking dive bar I've ever been from the outside. But you'd be amazed by the Thursday night live music. Incredible vibe and feels like a private party.

Before I visited New Orleans I asked my friend, who's a local, for some of the dive-y-est bars that they knew of. They gave me a list of a number of bar that fit this description and after my wife and I had dinner we set out to find these locations. Our first stop was Vaughan's Lounge and I couldn't be happier. This is a dive bar through and through!! First off it o my accepts cash and has an ATM on sight with a three dollar fee. The registrar looks like it was stolen from an early 1900s conscience store and it boasts pictures of famous people to pass through on the walls. The menu is written in pen and set inside a display board on the bar. There were six other people at the bar besides us, four were talking to themselves, and a couple who we discovered were also tourists. We chopped it up with the tourists, each had a beer, and called it a night. This was EXACTLY what I was looking for. It's a dive bar, it's got a fun atmosphere, and the drinks are cold. It was wonderful!!!

A great little neighborhood bar. Everyone's welcome and there is no pretension. True NOLA vibes.

Back then I was all about the OG dive bars of New Orleans and let's say while I'll always have a soft spot for these venerable institutions, my tastes are a little different. Like, now I rarely drink hard alcohol and I cannot fathom drinking cheap wine. So I was glad to see they have a decent rose and the inside is as charming as it ever was, but there's pretty sidewalk seating with flowers. And the drink prices are still shockingly reasonable! Love love love it.

I explained the situation to the bartender and asked if I could leave my ID and card with them while I quickly went home a few blocks away to get my charger. They agreed, so I left and came right back. When I returned, there was an older Black man in the bar who I hadn't seen before. He appeared to be homeless or struggling with substance use. Because we were both Black, staff seemed to assume we were together, which felt odd. He asked me to buy him a beer, and I agreed, just trying to be kind because I understand how difficult things can be. While I was sitting there trying to charge my phone so I could access my payment, a different bartender--a blonde woman--suddenly started yelling at me to leave, also directing the same hostility toward the man. I kept trying to explain that I just needed a few minutes to charge my phone so I could pay my tab, but she continued to berate me and told me to get out. Because of that, I wasn't able to settle my bill as I had intended. I wouldn't return to that bar again, even though it's close to my home. I'm not from here, but the experience felt deeply uncomfortable and, honestly, racially charged.

It even has its own Yelp page, so you know it's legit. Well, plot twist -- when we got there, the super sweet bartender Jenny broke the news that they had just changed the hours and were no longer open on Thursdays. (Check out my photo for the latest hours as of March 2025 -- you're welcome.) Here's the kicker -- we had already schlepped all the way from the French Quarter on foot and were sitting at around 13,000 steps for the day. We earned that burger! But, when life gives you closed burger joints, you pivot to cocktails -- and Jenny had us covered. Hubbs went for a Bloody Mary (solid choice), and I opted for a vodka soda... okay, maybe three vodka sodas -- but who's counting? The place itself? Total dive bar perfection. A couple of colorful locals popped in for a quick drink, the vibe was laid-back, and the drinks were strong enough to make you forget about the burger heartbreak (at least temporarily). Jenny was a gem -- attentive, funny, and quick with a refill. We were still mourning the loss of those smash burgers when someone at the bar confirmed, "Oh yeah, they are that good." Fantastic. Thanks for that.
