Stopped in for a slightly late lunch this past week along with my wife during our coupla days off work. Took an Uber there, as that's probably the best strategy for visiting anything in the Marigny or Bywater neighborhoods. Basically, it's an eclectic old house with a cool backyard dining area with the kinds of chairs you remember from elementary school. Local guitarist was playing a set for diners that afternoon on the stage. Front of the house full of different wines and the guy behind the counter was nice enough to suggest a good pairing with what we ordered to eat. My grilled pork chop with balsamic reduction was excellent. The perfect cut for such a dish. My wife loved her orechiette pasta and appetizer plate of olives. The white wine suggested to us was cold and refreshing. Everything matched well and the umbrella tables were clutch in the sun and heat of early summer. Artsy local NOLA spot that has character and was laid back. Bought wine downstairs...browsed around until I could find a space that could accommodate my family. Had live music but we couldn't hear it in the back room. Ordered the grilled steak with large steak fries and shrimp. The steak was rare and asked for it to be cooked again. We walked over to grab a glass of wine after lunch since the weather was so nice. Since we weren't interested in a bottle of wine, we were directed to the wine bar upstairs. They had a good selection of wines by the glass. I asked about the two rosés and those the funkier of the two and enjoyed it so much I bought a bottle to bring home. Just a warning if you're buying wine bottles to bring home, I later found the wine I purchased on the brand's website for less than half what I paid. read more

This was one of the bougiest things we did in New Orleans, but the environment is so casual and relaxed and not stuffy at all! It feels like a neighborhood backyard hangout. This was pretty out of the way, but I really wanted to make it out here and I am so glad I did. There was a wine tasting going on when we went, and I really loved one of the sparkling white wines so we picked one up. They put it in a bucket of ice, and we sat and sipped while listening to the live music. The musician that was playing that night was Jesse Morrow. The atmosphere was great. We decided to get another bottle of wine, and also got some (expensive) chocolate bark that melted very quickly in the New Orleans heat, lol. I wasn't hungry enough for a charcuterie board, but I love the choose-your-own concept and it looked really good! You will likely drop quite a bit of money here, but how much is really up to you. The bar upstairs is really nice too. We got another drink before closing time and got to chat a bit with the musician. My daughter found this place while visiting New Orleans so we decided to try it. It was a great recommendation! It's in a neighborhood, on a corner (old grocery store but looks like a house). We drove past it twice lol. It's street parking. You walk in and there's a store on the bottom level, but go outside and upstairs and it's a full bar. Pretty cool decor and atmosphere. If you're looking for a fun, outside of the box experience in NOLA, I highly recommend getting yourself over to Bacchanal Wine. It was recommended to me by a former resident and I almost brushed it off because it wasn't near any of the other things I planned to see and do. Don't let that discourage you! Get in a vehicle and go! The concept at Bacchanal is great. You have many options Grab a bottle of wine in the shop or get individual drinks outside. Select any variety of cheeses and/or cured meats from their fridge and they will plate them with all the fixings needed for a great charcuterie board (bread, pickles, olives, spreads, etc). Or you can order various other items (including hot items) outside in the wine garden. It's covered so even if it rained you'd be... covered. Keep an eye out on the music schedule because there will be gaps and the performances aren't nonstop throughout the day. The whole scene is very laid back and cool. Even on the chilly day we were here, the outdoor heaters provided the perfect amount of comfort for a leisurely visit. All in all, if you love wine, charcuterie, and jazz, it's not to be missed. read more

What a special spot! I be love the whole vibe and concept of Bacchanal. It's relaxed to its core, local neighbor hang spot and all the peeps who work here are friendly and welcoming. Pick out your bottle of wine, make up your own charcuterie tray, find a cozy spot out on the patio and listen to some amazing music! If you'd prefer a cocktail, you can go up stairs to the bar, there are some places to sit up there too or watch from the music from balcony. Their full food menu looks delish as well. Great wine spot with a large patio that we stopped by when visiting New Orleans. This spot had been recommended to my group by lots of friends so we were excited to check it out! This place was on our list, and I'm so glad we went. You walk into the wine shop, pick a bottle, and if it's one that would be chilled, they go find a cold one for you. Walk out the back door, grab your own wine glasses from one of those commercial plastic dishwasher glass holders, and seek out a table. If you want to order food, they have a QR code at the table. Order, pay, delivery. Very efficient, with no small talk or utensils for that matter. The courtyard is expansive and inviting, and very popular. Get there early. Live gentle jazz played at a volume that did not irritate in the slightest. We had other plans, so only stayed about a hour, but I can see why this would be so popular with the locals. The wine prices are higher that what you might pay in a grocery store, but well worth the price compared to buying the same bottle in a restaurant. Other notes: There is a full bar upstairs. I visited, and will likely return and actually order a beverage. Also a very popular spot, and a nice thing if you don't want wine. read more

My heart is with this beautiful city of New Orleans, and all the lives lost and injured. Despite me still being here, it is difficult for me to write some of these reviews, considering they were places I visited prior to the incident of January 1st, 2025. Always keep your safety a priority. My two friends and I went to Bacchanal, from the outside it looks to be a dive bar. But wait till you step inside, it's a whole other world. You'll immediately find a whole assortment of wine, that you can purchase to have while enjoying live music. You can sit upstairs at the bar, or outside, where the live music is. We did both. This place has a very cool, wired feel as you're navigating your way around. At the bar, there was a very personable bartender, who made us very tasty cocktails. Unfortunately, I cannot remember what they were called or what the base was. After the drinks we went downstairs to where the live musicians were playing their local jazz music. We wanted to get some appetizers, but everything we wanted was sold out. We decided to go for the bread and butter, and the bacon wrapped dates. This butter was black, and seemed very heavy on olive oil, it was served with sourdough bread. Not a crowd favorite, but interesting nonetheless. The dates were very good, a bit sweet, a very surprisingly pleasant app. We had such a fun time at Bacchanal, from the vibe, to the drinks, and the music. One of my favorite places to go because it is so unique! It's the best combination of casual backyard hangout, amazing quality food, and great music. Some of my favorite food items are the house made bread and butter, the steak, and the chocolate bark. But honestly I have liked everything I tried here, so you can't go wrong. You order on your phone through a QR code and someone brings it to your table in the courtyard. Their wine shop has hundreds of bottles of wine to choose from, and there is a bar upstairs. This is a great spot to bring a group of people or for a fun date night. It gets packed here on some nights and they do not take reservations, so you may have to wait for a little bit to sit down. Great music, great food, great vibes. With only one night left in New Orleans, we debated going to Frenchmen Street for live music, but so glad we decided to make the trek to Bacchanal. Very charming, laid back atmosphere with friendly service. Love the self serve backyard patio concept. Find a table and seat yourself, order food at the window or go inside to choose from a selection of meats and cheeses and they will plate it for you for a small fee which includes bread, olives, pickles, and other charcuterie items. They had a limited menu of hot foods including steak and grilled fish that all looked good. We opted for a cheese board and enjoyed it. We went early on a weekday evening and it was starting to fill up, but never felt too crowded or cramped. The patio is airy and spacious and the weather was perfect for sitting outside. There were a couple of open tables when we arrived around 6:30pm so we were able to sit right away. There is also indoor seating upstairs and standing room overlooking the backyard. Street parking is free and there is an area right outside in front of the old base with a row of parking spots. It sounds like parking and seating can be a challenge on the weekends, so come early! Overall a wonderful, relaxing experience and a great way to end our time in New Orleans. read more

Spent a leisurely Sunday (NYE) at Bacchanal and it was the highlight of our trip to New Orleans. We arrived right when they opened at noon and grabbed a prime table and 2 bottles of wine. We also grabbed 4 cheeses and a meat for a board, which the staff prepares for you. I love the concept - it's all pretty much self service. You buy your bottles, grab and ice bucket, fill it up, grab some glasses and settle in at your table. In addition to our cheese plate, we also ordered a number of small plates off the menu to share - steak, olives, mussels, pork shoulder, potatoes, dates, prawns. We loved the mussels, dates and olives. I've never been to a place like this, and it was a great way to spend a few hours with friends, in the sun, listening to live music. I had a delicious meal in the upstairs dining room and then sat at the bar where Alex made a drink suggestion that was really good. I'd never have thought of it myself. Involved lighting rosemary on fire with gin and Chartreuse. The performer sang in French and I felt transported to Montmarte district in Paris. It was a lovely evening. read more

Wonderful wine bar in the Bywater Area. The front is a wine and beer store, purchase what you need then go to the back to enjoy. You can order food from the QR codes at the table and enjoy live music as well. There is plenty of ample seating, a roof to keep you dry/not sunburnt, and self service bar for plates and cutlery. We highly enjoyed our time, my only reason for 4 of 5 stars is that the food portions are pretty small for the price paid and there aren't many add on food options like potatoes or rice.
