The reason given was that their system showed an additional insurance under my profile with an unrealistic expiry date of 12/31/9999, despite my Medicaid coverage being current and valid. When I contacted Medicaid, they confirmed that I have full coverage and even asked the provider to call their dedicated line for verification. Unfortunately, the billing staff member named Nina refused to call, insisting she would not contact Medicaid and suggested that I may file a complaint against her if desired. I tried to explain that her role should be to assist patients, especially in resolving such administrative issues, but she remained unwilling to help. This level of indifference is deeply concerning in a healthcare setting particularly at an eye clinic, where timely care is critical and many patients, including seniors, come with urgent vision concerns. Because of this situation, I was left with no choice but to reschedule my appointment, which may now take weeks or months. I sincerely hope that the management reviews this incident and emphasizes to its staff that patient care and empathy must come before rigid procedures. I tried to call to schedule an appointment and could not reach the office. They asked me a bunch of questions and was on the phone for 20 minutes only for them to transferred me to the nurse station. There is no way to even call the office without now going through Sentara. When I finally got through with the nurse they send me to the ER. My doctor would have never send me to the ER for just and UTI. They do not care about the "Personal" interaction any more. I hate this office now. I miss my doctor a lot and the small office not some robotic agency. Dr. John was a great doctor and was very personal in the past. I'm guessing the change to be Sentara was a business decision that relieves Dr. John and his previous staff of day to day issues but it's a horrible change!!! Now we can't even talk to the office. If this is now the new normal with the change to Sentara it's definitely not patient oriented or in anyone's best interest. Actively looking for another doctor.
