I have gotten wonderful curly cuts from the stylists. I've had good experiences with level 1 to level 6. Definitely recommend for cut and style! I have not had good experiences with coloring. I requested blending of grays (I'm growing out the natural gray color and wanted to make the "line" a little less obvious). They did their best, but it was harsh and ruined the ends of my hair to where it now won't curl. It looks ridiculous and I can't wear it down. I just wish I would have been warned that what they were going to do was likely going to damage it. I would have just lived with the current color/gray line. I'll go back. I wasn't planning to write a review, but after three months, this experience is still bothering me. The sloppiness and incompetence of the salon staff need to be called out. I went in for a haircut and a blowout, expecting a standard salon experience where your hair is washed before being cut. I arrived with messy, curly hair, assuming it would be washed first. However, my stylist never clarified that this was a dry-cut salon and proceeded to cut my hair UNEVENLY. When she finished, she simply said, "Have a good day," and walked away, leaving me sitting in the chair confused, waiting for the next step. After sitting there awkwardly, I finally got up and went to the front desk to ask if my hair would be washed or blown out. The receptionist looked at me as if I had just insulted her and bluntly told me I hadn't booked that service. She then proceeded to charge me $65 for a 10-minute, uneven, dry haircut. I don't want anyone else to go through this. I even went back to the salon 15 minutes later to express my frustration, hoping for some acknowledgment of their poor service. This facility suggests it specializes in curly hair. I booked an appointment for my 13 year old daughter, who has curly hair and when I booked the appointment specifically communicated she has matted hair in the back and needs help getting the matted hair fixed (as well as a haircut). We live 40 minutes away & went here b/c of their supposed specialization. They were rude to my 13-year old, told her to leave (suggesting they didn't have time for it), & when I spoke with the manager, she was rude & unapologetic. They could have called, in advance, if they needed more information or required an assessment in advance of an appointment. They did not & were nasty on top of it. As a result, my daughter, who is already sensitive about her hair is extremely upset and the manager/Vaza Salon staff could care less. I was really holding off on making a review because I got a refund from the service, but my hair is so damaged that I wanted to save somebody else from the same experience. I wanted to express that the salon owner called me and was so nice about it and apologized for this unusual experience. I wanted a partial balayage, however it was convinced by the stylist that a full balayage would be best to fit the info pictures side showed her. I'm not sure what process she had in mind. However, my hair is naturally dark and within my hair session she had an extremely light blonde. I was trusting the process. Unfortunately, I should not have trusted the process and now my hair is fried. I regret getting my hair done at all because I lost my curl pattern. When you go to the salon, be absolutely certain who you are seeing. Ask to see their recent work, and how long they have been working. I've been coming here for a year and my hair has never been healthier and more "me", thanks to Vanessa F! I have some autoimmune issues that really put my hair through the ringer. But when I finally started getting my curls back, I knew I had to treat them with the utmost care-- enter VaZa. I really appreciate how cautious they've been throughout the pandemic-- it's always very clean and some employees and customers still are masking. They also text you when they're ready for you to come in, so you don't have to wait around inside, which I love! For people concerned with pricing -- I've found that I can go longer between cuts, so while the price is higher than I used to pay at time of service, it ends up balancing out. And it's worth it for me for have my hair goals and really HEALTHY hair, plus the education on how to take care of my hair. I included a bunch of pictures of my hair this year. We bleached it, pink glazed it, a rainbow hair dream come true, and a curly cut trim in between! In a tough year, coming to VaZa and playing around with Vanessa has truly been such a gift and a huge highlight. I am endlessly grateful. PS-- parking tip: free 3-hour parking in the lot across the street or metered/pay-by-app street parking. Definitely give yourself some extra time in case the lot is full. VaZa Salon is the best salon I've ever been to. I had a bad highlight experience at a salon closer to me and needed help from a real professional. Val was recommended to me and I'm her customer for life now! She introduced me to balayage instead of foils for my blonde hair. I've been doing foils for years but not going back to it. Val's balayage is just beautiful and looks absolutely natural in any light. I also showed her pictures of how I wanted my hair cut and she cut it perfectly. As my hair grew, the cut still held up and was easy to style each day. Everyone in the salon is professional and really cares about your experience at the salon. It's truly an oasis from your every day life. As soon as you put in the comfy robe, you feel relaxed and ready to go. The shampoo station has beds, yes beds, where you lay down comfortably for your shampooing. I happily drive the 40 minutes from my home in Mahopac to come here. I was a long-time client of VaZa ever since they first opened when I still lived nearby. Sadly, I moved away but I recommended it to my friend (curly hair), who recently moved to the area, who raves about it! I even got my other friend from Brooklyn to use their services. She has curly hair too and trust issues with hairstylists, but she had such a wonderful experience at VaZa that it's become her go to spot. It's a beautiful space with high ceilings and large windows. So much light and very spacious. They make it feel like spa experience. You are escorted into a changing room to put a robe over your clothes, and then to the most comfortable wash stations, where you lay down instead of sit. It's a lovely and thoughtful experience. I miss getting my haircuts here, but it's so nice to hear from my friends that it has retained its excellent customer service and quality cuts! I'll continue to recommend it. read more

Vaza is a large, beautiful, and clean salon right on Main St, Ossining. You get a private changing room to put on your robe and they offer you something to drink. Getting a scalp massage while laying restfully on a comfortable shampoo bed is a luxurious treat. I followed co-owner Val from another salon because she'd given me my first dry curly cut and it was fantastic. As the "artistic director" at Vaza, she came with a higher price tag but it seemed worth it in the beginning. Val used to do the cut, styling, and set herself. She took her time and saw the style through to the final result. But at Vaza, she eventually stopped doing the actual styling (at least for me). She'd do a quick cut and then hand me off to assistants, with varying levels of experience, to let them handle all of the styling, setting, and drying. One assistant actually told me she was just learning, which made me ponder whether I should be getting a discount for being a hair model. After sitting under a dryer hood for a wearyingly long time, I'd often leave the salon with peculiar clumps in my still wet-looking hair. I kept going back, though, in search of that first amazing cut I'd gotten from Val. A couple of times (even though I hadn't complained), Val herself came over to say that the final style didn't look right and asked her assistant to try again, re-wetting and re-clipping my hair and sticking me under the dryer for another eternity. Those re-dos looked just as bad. On those days, I felt troubled paying the high price tag. Once, while I paid, the otherwise blasé front desk associate asked me if I liked my new style and I sensed that she, for one, did not. It felt unfair to pay so much to look worse than when I'd entered the salon, and I felt like she knew it too. Unfortunately, with assistants doing the styling, I could no longer see the vision Val had for her haircuts. How was it supposed to look when properly styled? When she did the styling herself, I could see what she'd had in mind so I could strive to achieve that look at home. That seems like a vital component of getting a professional haircut, especially when it comes to tricky curls. At home, once I'd washed out loads of product and styled it myself, it would look about the same as it had before I went to the salon. I'd wonder why I was paying so much for essentially a trim. Nobody ever noticed that I'd gotten my hair cut. Last time I went to Vaza, there were signs announcing new, higher prices. When the prices took that jump, I finally jumped ship. I knew I would miss the lovely salon dedicated to curly hair but it just wasn't working out for me. It seems obvious that if you're paying a premium for a master stylist, then that should be the stylist who actually styles your hair. Maybe they could consider offering reduced prices for apprentice stylists to set and dry. And maybe they can offer a "trim" option that costs less. Or maybe it's just me, because I know plenty of curlies swear by Vaza. They certainly created a gorgeous space that I miss visiting, and I do wish them luck. read more

Have been sending my high school aged daughter here for the best curly cuts since the autumn of 2021. Wonderful management and staff. Professionally run and careful with health of client and staff during the pandemic with safeguards relaxed as we emerge from those times. You can trust their product recommendations and buy them at the salon. Make sure to bring plenty of quarters in case you have to park at a meter (there are some free lots but sometimes they are full) This is also a beautifully designed space. Got the best curly cut in my life with Vanessa. She is charming and an attentive listener. When it comes to curly hair, I have learned to just trust the stylist and not give too much direction. But in the course of nice chit chat I mentioned things I like, and wow, she just gave me exactly that. Time went by fast and it was a great experience. I saw her finish up a client before me who got a dramatic new look that made the most of her curly hair and the results were amazing. I highly recommend Vanessa. I used Vaza salon several times, and always liked the work they do, both in cut and coloring; and I understand that occasional mishaps can happen anywhere. The reason I am writing this review is the management response which made me realize it's a deeper problem. I found out that to have your hair dried you need to book drying separately, because it is not included in the color and cut service (although according to their website only cut has "express" option but that one does not include washing either). I don't mean blow dry but just basic drying. When my hair was washed I was told that I was done. When I asked how I could see the end result if my hair was wet and new color could not be seen much less new cut, - management response was that I did not include drying in my package, and they needed to close promptly. I had to ask to let me use the stationary dryer simply because it was cold outside. Before writing this I asked social network groups, my friends and colleagues, as well as other hair salons to see whether this policy is commonplace or unusual, and everybody but one person responded with words from "weird" to "crazy". But everybody agreed such treatment is not acceptable. read more

Upon arrival to my appt I was greeted with openness and much love. My consultation was wonderful with my stylist constantly asking if I had any questions. (That's a great practice) I've been here twice already and both times I wasn't disappointed with anything. They use all natural products and are experts in curly hair. A co-worker recommended this salon to me and I am so happy I went! I was in desperate need of a cut and my curls weren't in the best shape. First of all, the staff is doing an excellent job of ensuring customers' safety post-COVID reopenings. Masks are required, stylists had face shields on, styling stations were separated with plastic covers- they have a ton of safety measures in place. I did a dry cut and full balayage with Maria and she is amazing! I was nervous going into it because I have never color-treated my hair, but she was super nice and walked me through the entire process. I showed her pictures of the look I was going for and honestly, it came out better than I would have imagined. She gave great recommendations on products I should use to maintain the color and managing my curls. There is a lot of great things for me to say about VaZa and my experience there: First off, I have been to a lot of salons because my mom worked in a lot of salons and went around for different clients and VaZa is the most beautiful and clean salon I have been to! Second, the workers are great, ask if you'd like to have water or coffee and are very attentive. Third, my stylist Val was great I showed her the pic of what I wanted my hair to look like and what I didn't want it to look like ( I wanted to have a full head balayage ) and she did and AMAZING job, exactly what I wanted and beautifully done. The girl who did my shampoo and gloss was also super nice and sweet and did a very good job, Alice did my style she blow-dried my hair, did a great job and super fast she has a super strong hand because I have a lot of hair! I wanted to like this place, and support a woman-owed biz on our community's main street. Hair stylist/colorist (Cornelio) does very good work, both on color and a chic, short cut. Alas, upon my 4th visit, my appointment (booked on line with specific info on services requested) did not translate into a correct plan of action being conveyed to the stylist. Services were omitted on his "work order/schedule", and suddenly he has to scramble to execute what I requested while juggling me with another client. I don't have 3+ hours to spend on my hair. And not an apology, nor a smile. And a HUGE bill, to boot $$$$. I wrote to them afterwards with my concerns, and never had a response. Like I said, I wanted to like this place, but I've taken my hair elsewhere in town. I know others have good experiences and continue to patronize the place, but there are other excellent options locally. read more

Everything about my experiences at VaZa Salon have been terrific. I've been going to Val for years and the experience has been consistently great. I've never had a bad, or even an average, haircut. Typically I get a hair cut and style. Last year I had balayage done and it really turned out beautifully. The atmosphere of the salon is top notch - it is professional and friendly. They offer you a beverage while you are waiting for your stylist (which has never been a long wait) and your desired look is discussed with you before heading to the shampoo beds (which are very relaxing). I am very reticent to post a review so negative for a local business but then someone researching the salon before they go here can be helped so I decided ...ok. First of all, if you have curly hair and don't want to blow it straight it's probably because it takes you waaay too long. Well, their method of drying your curly hair takes forever!! (More time than a straight blow dry) I wanted to scream. The process was so absurd I wanted to get out of the chair and run. The color process was even more ridiculous. The "expert" director really was very inexperienced . And I get it ...she's young and color experience takes years, but not on my head! They offered to fix it a few days later which they did try and actually made it worse. The best part...wait for it... they made me pay for a blow dry after they had me come back for the correction! First of all, VaZA is a really beautiful, well lit space with high ceilings, gorgeous floor to ceiling windows, and thoughtful flow and design. I think all salons/spas should be beautiful because beauty is therapeutic, and VaZa certainly is that. They saw me right away for the first time after an ill-advised attempt to cut my own hair left me looking, as one might expect, totally insane. I saw a perfectly competent junior stylist who did what she could to mend the damage - I was able to spend the next several weeks without a paper bag over my head! Win! I then scheduled with their master stylist, Amanda, who is among the best hairdressers I've ever seen. She's smart, intuitive and has been able to execute my vision to a T. As is the case with all super-talented hairstylists, she books well in advance, so bear that in mind when trying to schedule. Huge shout out to Val for SAVING my hair!! I have curly hair and went to her when she was at Shine Salon for a few years and then briefly sought a less expensive alternative for about a year. My hair became a wreck during that year, and I definitely regret not sticking with Val consistently. I returned to her at VaZa Salon exactly one year ago, and after about five haircuts over the course of the year, my hair has returned to a healthy, shiny, non-frizzy state. People have definitely noticed the transformation, too. Val is extremely friendly and talkative, as is the rest of the staff. Upon arriving, customers are immediately offered tea and coffee- I always look forward to the pomegranate green tea they have. Val listens to what I want and helps to make it work for my hair. Last time I went in, I wanted bangs-- Val was hesitant because of my curls, but she modified the bangs to suit my texture and I loved the result. The price tag isn't cheap, but neither is the experience-- from the great customer service to the relaxing atmosphere to the quality of the haircut, you absolutely get your money's worth. This place has great customer service but I was not impressed with the "hair job" as I have better for a much lesser price... I did appreciate the being accommodating and taking care of their customers during this pandemic. I am curious if there's a price Duffy between the men's cut versus the women's... just felt a bit ripped off with the pricing for a trim that I ended up not feeling all that great with. I've been going to VaZa Salon for over 2 years-- truth be told, it's the longest that I have ever been loyal to a stylist. The staff is amazingly professional, organized, well trained, kind, and punctual. The atmosphere is relaxing and calming, from the changing rooms, to the waiting area to the shampoo BEDS. Val is a master of her profession. At this point, I don't even ask what she is doing to my hair, I just sit, relax, and wait for the big reveal. My daughters whole service was rushed with 3 people switching doing her hair. How am I supposed to tip when 3 young girls are experimenting with my daughters hair. Stuck up woman not one smile or hello was said except Emma at the front desk and a nice assistant Taylor (only one I tipped) It was over priced and no professional touched my daughters hair. The assistants were all over the place being ordered around by the "stylist". It's sad because I was expecting something so much different. All that was done was brushing her hair out in the sink which took WAY too long and then a heavy amount of conditioner I had to tell her to wash some out or the next day her hair would be a greaseball. The girls don't have curly hair so it makes sense that they don't know what their doing. Will never return. Get a $25 haircut somewhere else and watch "Manes by Mel" on YouTube for curl advice.
