My good friend and I heard about this place and decided to check it out... The menu has several good options. I ordered tacos al pastor, and barbacoa. You can't have tacos without salsa so asked for salsa verde because the nacho salsa wasn't really my thing... The waitress told us that there is a $2.25 dollar fee for salsa verde! My mother has a food truck and when I told her this, or anyone I've told this to has been floored, and shocked that a Mexican Restaurant would charge extra for salsa! We bought a quart of menudo to go and when we got home it was all broth and about a half cup of menudo. When my mother called to complain the person who answered was skeptical and said that it was impossible her menudo had been that way. When she went to pick up the corrected order the owner scolded her for losing her temper on the phone. We will never go here again. read more

This place rocks!!! I have been to all 4 but am reviewing this one since I frequent it most. So I have lives here for almost 5 years and have been here at least once every other week since moving. Its awesome, I dont know how they get their meat so tender and delicious but they do an amazing job. I love the beef fajita tacos with guacamole. I've been eating at Vasquez for a few years now and I like it alot. It used to be dirt cheap; now it's affordable Mexican food. And it's great! Guess what?! - Mexican food is greasy and generally unhealthy (I mean Tex-Mex, of course), so if that's what you want, Vasquez is your place. This is based on just one visit so adjust accordingly. The enchilada plate I ordered for lunch was fine, pretty average but I thought 2 enchiladas with rice and beans (both tasty but small portions) for $9.50 was overpriced. The chips were OK, the 'salsa' was very saucy and rather bland, no bits of tomato, onion or peppers to be found. My companion's Chalupa plate was somewhat more substantial however the tostadas had no beans on them, only some chicken, cheese and salad. There was no lunch menu either, same prices all day. I'm used to going to Torchys, Tacodeli and the other places, and Vazquez tacos have better flavor- very authentic Mexican and fresh. I went there today after having moved North recently and reading all the good reviews. Having grown up in San Antonio, I have to have my tex mex fix and was used to great quality at ~$1 per taco. That being said, I first wanted to say the inside of this place is nothing like what other reviewers described. It looks just like any other tex mex joint operating at low cost, not gross or shady at all...some prissy yelpers out here. Now for the grub: I ordered 3 breakfast tacos (potato & egg, migas, and nopales & egg). All 3 were average or better (def better than the one I had at Pablito's next door), with size being avg too (not small, not big but full of the goods). My favorite was the potato & egg, above avg but nothing amazing. The nopales & egg was avg/good, but there was more cactus than egg which wasn't as good as the other way around would have been. The migas taco was avg at best, the one at Cheko's is wayyy better. The tortillas chips in this migas taco looked like fritos at first, then I noticed they were just the restaurant's chips cut smaller and apparently fried for a much greater amount of time until they got thicker and darker (didn't taste as good as just adding the chips as is) The salsa was pretty good, not the best I've had in Austin but prob top 3? On a negative note, the tortilla chips were not complementary unlike most other Tex Mex places, I think they were $1.50 or something. All in all, I'll prob be back because it's within jogging distance of our house and is better than Pablito's, but can say I know I will not be craving this. If I'm not being lazy, I'll take the extra 15-20 mins to go to Cheko's for better quality and even cheaper prices (their plates are real good too). Also, I would only order the potato & egg again of the 3 I got. I guess my standards will have to take a dip now that I'm living this far North. read more

This place is one of my favorite places to eat! Everyone is friendly. The food is inexpensive and quality. I love their crispy taco plate! The rice and beans are delicious and I am SUPER PICKY about my rice and beans. Their guacamole is simply and fresh. My kids love their breakfast tacos while my husband prefers the beef fajitas. Their chips and salsa are good too. They won't let you take your chips home though...they want to charge you $3 to take them even though they are just going to throw them away when you leave anyway. I asked for a to go bag and she said she would have to charge me....but whatever I will just eat them there. The parking is not good here but the food is very good. Except their enchiladas-tried them once and the sauce was off putting but my mom loved them....I am very picky about enchiladas too...but everything else is great! read more

Probably my favorite breakfast spot and worth the 15 min. drive south. The tortillas are fresh and HOT. Their salsa kicks butt. The service is friendly and attentive. And my favorite dish is their Huevos Divorciados. A nice twist on the standard huevos rancheros fare. We eat here on a regular basis now! My whole family just LOVES the beef fajita tacos! Make sure and add their guacamole as it's just plain good! Nothing fancy, mostly avocado, but that's exactly how I prefer it; not crazy about tons of onions and cilantro in my guac. Their tacos are big too! They also have great salsa! I have eaten here for several years and they just seem to get better and better. I am sad that we are moving and we will not have our weekly fix. You start with fresh chips a hot sauce, like I like it. I love their fresh iced tea. Our favorite items to order are the fajita taco, steak taco, and al pastor, all available al a cart for $2.25 each. The fajita salad is huge.The breakfast plates and tacos are are great. This was hard to rate because I had to really do a list of pros and cons. I want to say if all we had to rate is the food, then it would be a perfect score. Unfortunately a restaurant is more than that so here we go. There was 1 more customer in the restaurant when we ate there and still the waitress would take forever to help us out. I could hear all the staff playing and talking in the back. The price to food portions is not good. Even though the food is very tasty and delicious, the price doesn't match it. My daughter ordered the quesadilla which is the size of a food truck quesadilla but here it will run you 13 dollars. We thought for sure it will be bigger or came with sides but we were wrong all you get for 13 dollars is a fajita quesadilla, that's it. The gorditas are 4 dollars each and they are small as well. After eating for only 20 minutes we came out and our car was towed. There needs to be more warnings as to where to park. I had not been to this place in a few years. As I remember, good portion size, nice flavor and cheap. Now it is none of those. I ordered an $11 pork burrito and even though the plate came with rice and beans the burrito was filled with, you guessed it mostly rice and a bit of beans. It was hard to find any meat on the thing. The waitress asks me how my meal was and I told her I was surprised that the main ingredient in the burrito was rice. She offered to bring me a side of meat on the house and I accepted. I finished my meal, paid and said thank you. I will never set foot in this place again. There are far better options for Mexican food than this place at a lower price point. Very disappointed. WOW great carne guisada! Melts in the mouth with a wonderful flavor. Also tried the Vazquez beef burrito and the ground beef was very flavorful and moist and they did not skimp on the cheese melted on top of that burrito either. Refried beans were good but no too fatty greasy like other places can be. Salsa served with chips was more like hot sauce but was the fresh kind with no preservatives and was cold from the fridge. ME GUSTA FRESH SALSA! This place is never empty, and now I know why! Staff was very friendly and the prices were very reasonable, 2 plates and one soda was well under $20. They use the large size water glasses which are so nice on a hot Texas day! Place was very clean unlike others in this zipcode. Will be back to try more dishes next time I'm in this part of town, YUM! Side note, they play authentic hispanic music in there and it was actually really good music that was not blaring or annoying like some of the polka derived music can be. FYI - Instead of bringing the check to the table you simply walk up front and give your table number to the cashier and pay (don't forget to leave your tip on the table!). What was served was a huge plate of rice and beans center stage with a side of tough chicken and tender beef on one end of the plate, and the pico de gallo on the other.
