My mom and I brought her dog in for a wound that had ruptured abccess unannounced right at opening. They explained to us they don't take walk-ins but kindly took us anyway! The receptionist were pressed because everyone was checking in at the same time and they were so polite and very helpful. We got I about 20 minutes later. Dr Joe was so knowledgeable and informative and took care of our pup to the fullest. Gave us two options to choose from and we were all set. This place is so impressive! I had an emergency with my dog and they got him an appointment just hours after I called. I have had lots of animals and was once a vet tech long ago. So I've spent a lot of time at vet clinics. This place does not feel like an emergency clinic. They are all friendly and extremely compassionate and efficient. I can't say enough about Dr.Frankovich. She had excellent bedside manner and was very reasonable with her treatment plan, weighing the impact of my dogs experience with how invasive she needed to be to treat his wounds. I wish I lived closer to her so that she could be my regular vet. I trust her 100% and I can't say that about many! read more

I must express my self to give myself peace. I brought in my cat, Tigger, in a couple of weeks ago, and was told that he had a blocked bladder. The very young Vet told me that it would cost about $5,000 dollars for 4 days of catheterization treatment and added that that it could cost even more if he developed kidney stones.. The second option was euthanasia. The financial cost was so shocking that I said goodbye to my kitty and brought him home to bury. I want to share the reason I took Tigger to this facility in the first place, was because 3 years before, Vet Hawkins saved my old old comatose cat by giving her an a antibiotic shot, and she is still thriving. Vet Hawkins only thought positive and brought on a miracle it seemed. If I had it to do all over for Tigger I would have brought him home and tried on-line remedies to at least have given him a chance to survive. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. I picked my dog up from the groomer this morning, her ear had been cut and was bleeding all over the place. Our regular vet said to get her over to Asher asap so I drove right over. When we walked in it was evident that my dog was bleeding and NO one acknowledged our presence at all. I finally asked someone for a towel and stood there while the receptionist was taking her sweet time reviewing other forms. When they finally got to us they asked "did you call in first" uhhh no I just picked my dog up and she is bleeding so I came right here, I was told I had to call first in a very rude and clearly annoyed tone....I walked out right then and there. I have been to this vet twice recently. I am new to Redding and didn't know what vet to go to, and chose this one due to convenience of location. Everyone there was extremely gracious and courteous. My most recent visit, yesterday, was very heartbreaking and tough to deal with as my companion Cosmo was in an accident. I was crying in the waiting room while filling out the forms, and they were very hospitable and understanding. I finally met the veterinarian, and he was extremely gracious and understanding as well. Let me start by saying, this hospital does not treat you or your pet like family. It started with my wife taking our 5-year-old cat in at 7am on 6/8/23 for being lethargic, vomiting and peeing everywhere. The lady who checked her in was nice and allowed us to check in early as there was a miscommunication over the phone the night prior. Thats where the positivity stops. My wife gets him checked in and at this time he has an accident in the carrier. There is a lot of blood in his urine at this time (which had not been an issue before) and they took him back right away. While a few moments later they give my wife a quote of $3500 to $4300 to treat him for the next day or two depending. Before they can do anything however, they wanted half the payment ($1750) upfront. At this time my wife goes to work because what else can she do. We don't hear anything all day. No update at all. So, she gets off work and calls them at 5pm. They advise that his levels have not decreased, there is still a lot of blood and a blockage. They will keep him overnight. At around 8:30 this morning (6/9/23) we get a call advising that our baby had passed away "sometime this morning." What does that mean?? How do you not know when he passed away? After grieving for a bit, we head up to take him home and burry him. We arrive and they can not locate him in their charts. Excuse me? I asked "how do you lose a deceased cat?" It took them several minutes to find him. They then usher us around the other side of the counter. I am visibly upset and trying to hold back emotion at this time. They lady at the counter runs to the back, grabs the chart and then proceeds to ask for payment of the rest of the bill. At this time, We still haven't even gotten a "I'm sorry for your loss" or anything appropriate to the situation. She then proceeds to go back and get us our receipt and itemized bill. I ask her when he passed away because it shows that they only billed for 2 hours into the day. She goes back and talks to the tech and they advise it was around 1:30 in the morning. I asked why the doctor did not call us and she replied "They called you first thing when they got in." EXCUSE ME?! I'm paying for 24 hour care and there is no one here watching him. She replies, "There was. We have a tech here." I replied, but a doctor wasn't. So basically, the doctor can't be bothered to take care of an animal at risk of dying in the middle of the night. I asked again why they did not call at the time of death, and we were advised, "We don't like to bother people in the middle of the night." Who in their right mind cares about being woken up when a loved one has died or is dying?! They eventually brought him out wrapped in a trash bag covered with a blanket. I asked about paw prints and apparently "They forgot to get them." Great compassion and empathy for a family who lost a loved one. At this point, the few choice words I had were only a fraction of what I would like to have said. And again, still no form of empathy or any sort of comfort was provided. It was all business the entire time. I decided to stop by another vet in the area and asked them if they were able to take some paw prints for us. They willingly agreed and then saw how he was given to us (trash bag). They offered to properly wrap him in a more appropriate fashion. They returned a while later and I was so overwhelmed with grief and gratitude that we got footprints, and he was bundled with care and love to be buried. At this time, my wife walked away and asked about the condition he was given to us in. HE WAS NOT BATHED FROM THE FIRST ACCIDENT! HE WAS LEFT FOR 17+ HOURS COVERED IN HIS BLOOD AND URINE, SCARED AND ALONE FOR THE REMAINING HOURS OF HIS LIFE! Who thinks that is ok to do to someone's pet? I will never forget how they treated my baby, and I will NEVER recommend this hospital to anyone ever again. If you truly love your pet, find another hospital. read more

Our family had to go through the painful time of putting down our family dog of 13 years. From the first phone call Asher Hospital was amazing. We were given an appointment within an hour of needing it. Our whole family of 6 was allowed to be in the room to say goodbye and every person along the way who helped us was amazingly patient and sensitive. So I'm going to vent My dog is almost 11 in a couple of months. He will be 11 years old. I've had him since he was 5 weeks old, and he's been going to vca. Asher, since he was 5 weeks old, well, when I came home today, he had been licking his little rear end and I noticed there was a lesion back there and it was bleeding. So of course, I looked it up online and it said it's probably some anal thing, so I need to get him to the vet ASAP. So a little bit before 2 PM I called vca Asher Told him I was up and asked if he could be seen. And they said, well, we don't have time until after 5 today, and then it will be an emergency after hours, visit automatic $460 just to walk in the door and that doesn't include any treatment. And I said, are you kidding? And they said, no, that's all we have. I said, okay, thank you, and I hung up so I called cottonwood small animal clinic. And they said, go ahead and bring him in, and we'll take a look at them. So I brought him in, they got him right back. They took care of the problem. They had to irrigate and express and all this kind of stuff he was in a lot of pain. They took care of that problem. They gave me some antibiotics, they gave me some pain meds He's wearing a cone of shame. All of that came to $219, so what is going on? I don't get this. I was a patient there for over 10 years. With this dog. And they're gonna treat me like that. I will never ever recommend them to anybody. read more

I brought my dog in for a possible ear infection. There was also concern for a UTI, the vet was extremely cold with my dog and persisted that she would stop barking if we continued to talk over her. Wrong. She also fear mongered with saying the only way to treat a UTI is to spay. (I know this to be untrue) It also does not make sense to perform a MAJOR surgery while there is an active infection in the body. We decided to get a second opinion from another veterinarian office and we are currently treating my dog for a UTI with antibiotics and other holistic remedies! Do not comply to everything these people tell you, they want to scare you into spending excess money for your pets!! Advocate for yourself. And advocate for your pet!! read more

Being new to Redding, had an emergency with our Shepherd. Brought her in in hopes of her getting help with her . Instead they came out saying you need to make a choice- we recommend euthanasia. Our hearts dropped- being on a fix income and Aaleayha never being sick or needing a vet other than her two time a year check up. Then ), they put her down ! Charging a outrageous fee - and gave her back in a cheap ( Chinese tin box ) for candy . And got her name wrong of the death certificate. They only care about the money !! Not the pet . I had to bring my young dog in because of an unknown eye issue, although she was treated for another issue unknown to me. I did not appreciate the staff not accommodating my rights to designate another person to speak on my behalf so I could return to work where I care for elderly with debilitating cognitive conditions. Also, I do not believe that the vet spent enough time evaluating her condition on either the initial visit nor follow up. I base my opinion on the time she spent examining my animal when compared to the difference in time and care provided by my regular veterinarian for the same issue following the follow-up care and advice given to me by Asher. I was so worried about the nonchalant way the vet at Asher was prsecribing serious medication for an unclear condition that I made a call and made it evident to my regular veterinarian's staff that my dog needed to be seen as soon as possible. Although my veterinarian is very busy and is also based in an animal hospital, the actions that were being made by Asher's were enough to have my vet ask her staff to make room for my dog to be dropped off immediately following the follow-up appointment with Asher VCA. My veterinarian and her colleagues, along with the supporting staff, spent three hrs watching, examining, observing, and collaborating their initial thoughts with one another. The veterinarian at Asher was with my dog for less than a half n hour. The vet at Asher VCA advised medication after 30 minutes of care. Then, she suggested that because she didn't have the capacity to make a clear definite diagnosis that was confirmed with diagnostic testing that included results indicating positive results for the diagnosis, that her inability to form a diagnosis led to only a single conclusion, that my dog had an autoimmune disorder. This is not a safe or ethical way to treat animals medically. My veterinarian has not excluded the possibility that my animal is presenting with an autoimmune disease, but she also advised against administrating the medication prescribed by the vet at Asher unless or until my animal's condition worsens. My vet also, without hesitation, recommended a specialist (out of state due to them being one of the best in the field) because my veterinarian took my words to heart when I told her that I am willing and able to take any steps necessary to establish the correct level of care for my dog. Unlike the veterinarian at Asher VCA, who had a passive-aggressive attitude when I announced that my animal was insured and I was financially capable of taking the steps necessary to investigate and determine what the correct diagnosis was so that the proper treatment could be administered. I do not plan on having a reason to need to make an emergency appointment with anyone other than my regular veterinarian, yet if the occasion arises again, I will not call Asher VCA, I will opt for traveling out of the area if needed. read more

I had to take my boy Cooper to VCAsher for end of life care. The people there were the absolute best. I was broken up and they knew exactly how I felt. They understand it is the most difficult decision a pet parent can make. No matter how much we understand these things need to take place the ladies at VCAsher understand it doesn't make it less difficult. Came in for an emergency visit. They were all wonderful. I spoke with 4 people and they were all incredibly gracious! Our vet was knowledgeable and very nice and personable. They had me in and out in about an hour. They trimmed some dead skin, cleaned a wound and wrapped my girl up really well. I'm so grateful to these wonderful ladies, keep up the good work! Notice: when going to the clinic with Covid protocol the clinic has in place, when you pull up to park you must call to let them know you are there to be seen. We couldn't read the sign well when we pulled up but what I could make out was "please stay in your vehicle.." So we did....until we realized we probably needed more instructions We brought our bengal kitty in for vaccinations that were overdue. Being from out of town, I was recommended by a friend. The first staff member we spoke to called from inside and answered each and everyone of our questions. And while I was afraid she was going to be completely annoyed with as many questions we had, she never once rushed us along. We were very nervous to leave our kitty there even for short time. Shortly after leaving her there, the vet herself called to touch base and to let us know we could come retrieve our babe. I brought my guinea pig in last Monday because she was having difficulty chewing even though she wanted to eat. The appointment was at 8am and we were seen promptly. I described her symptoms to the vet and he weighed her, but that was the extent of the consultation. He seemed confident he already knew what the problem was, saying she needed her molars trimmed, without doing a thorough exam. He said he would fit her in during the day in between procedures, and they would call me when she is done. But I didn't realize this would mean I'm picking her up nearly 9 hours later. I called around 2pm checking on her to see if she was done and the receptionist said she hadn't been seen yet. I was feeling a little worried because the reason I brought her in was she was having a hard time eating and now she's been in a crate for hours, probably not eating anything because I was having to hand feed her the day before her appointment. The receptionist did inform me that she was doing well and had food and water available, so that reassured me but in hindsight I'm concerned she didn't eat anything during her time there. It was approaching 5:30pm and I still hadn't heard from them so I called again and they said she's ready to be picked up. I brought her home and her symptoms seemed the same but I figured she was sore from getting her molars trimmed. Fast forward a day and half, on Wednesday, and her condition declined rapidly. I got home from work on Wednesday and her breathing seemed different and now she had no interest in eating. I was about to take her back to the vet after trying to hand feed her but she passed away within a matter of hours. I'm not sure what caused such a rapid decline, but perhaps something else was wrong with her and was undetected because of what seemed like a rushed exam. It's not that I think the staff didn't care about her but I feel like she wasn't given the full attention she deserved and communication throughout the process was not handled well. read more

The vet was very cute but had a thousand yard stare. I am pretty sure he rolled out of losing someone's pet on the surgery table right into the room with me. The air ducts are exceptionally filthy, which makes me wonder how clean everything else is. I have this complaint about multiple vets in the area: If I am the only person in the waiting room and everyone behind the desk is acting super distracted when dealing with me, I wonder how organized everything else is. In my industry, we call these people "client facing." The moment-to-moment appearance of focus goes a long ways. read more

I know that it's a tough time right now for the staff with the high volume of patients and limitations due to covid. I got there at 7am and was still the 12th person in line. Gotta be hard being the only 24hr hospital with no appointments. After waiting an hour they took my 10wk old cat and had him for about 4hrs. They bandaged his broken leg with care and the doctor had great advice when I got to talk to her. She was very nice and knowledgeable. They also brought in emergency patients (a dog who ate poison) right when they were called about it, which I think is priority and a good call. Reviews about a vet office, I think, can be subjective depending on the person and their animal, but myself and my coworkers bring our animals here and we trust them :-) read more

Very disappointed and definitely will never take my pets to VCA Asher on Hilltop Drive Redding, California again nor would I recommend anyone else to take their pet there either. My Grandmother's cat couldn't keep anything down for several days so I called a few different veterinarians in town and none were accepting new patients so they referred me to VCA Asher. I called and explained the situation and they told me to bring my Grandmother's cat in at 4:30pm but to call from the parking lot when I got there so they could "escort" us in due to not knowing if whatever was going on was contagious. I arrived a few minutes early and called as told to do. The woman said she would check me in and then call me back. After 45 minutes she called me back and told me to meet her at the side door. I did and we went into a small room called the "isolation room". A girl took her weight and temperature and said the doctor would be with us shortly. We waited over 2 hours and still were not seen, so I called the front office from inside the room we were in to inform them that my friend who is diabetic needed their insulin so we would have to leave soon and we had been waiting for 2 hours already. She told me she'd go tell the doctor and the doctor would be right in. We waited until 6:30pm and still nobody had come in to talk to us. They had closed the lobby and were cleaning the benches as if they were getting ready to go home and they totally blew us off. We ended up having to leave to get my friend's insulin so my Grandmother's cat never was seen. They never bothered to call after we left to apologize for ignoring us and leaving us waiting in that room for over 2 hours. This experience was the worst I've ever had at a vet! They told me to bring my Grandmother's cat in to be seen and then didn't even bother to evaluate her! Then they lied to me twice saying the doctor would be right in and they didn't care that we waited for nothing or that my friend could have had a medical emergency if they didn't have their insulin. They just made us sit there for hours and waste our time without any help at all!! What a waste! The most unprofessional vet I've ever seen!! read more

This place is horrible. They basically killed my cat by not diagnosing she had parvo. My cat died a painful and horrible death. When I brought my cat in they we had blood work done but they never did parvo test & told me diagnose test was $600 which for a parvo test which is only $100 elsewhere. I bought my cat back 3 more times and each time wanting to charge me more and more money and NOT ONCE mention that it looks like my cat may have parvo. The vet knew my cat was not eating and prescribed oral antibiotics instead of giving her a shot which they only agreed to after I asked and I had to do my research. My cat had a 80-90% chance survival rate if parvo was treated in time in stead each week went by and I kept taking my cat here to get IV fluids with no diagnosis or what it could be. I called them after my cat passed and they acted like it was my fault that she was dead. I had blood work done, sonogram done and over 4 weeks of seeing my cat they did not say anything that could be wrong. This vet is only about money not about care of your fur family. read more

This is in my opinion the worst place to take your pet. We first took our dog Jade to VCA in folsom, ca. They were great very patient with her so when we moved to Redding decided to take her to this VCA. They wouldn't let us go in with her and so reluctantly I handed her over to them. They came back saying she was to aggressive and wouldn't be able to treat her. Suggested we give her sedative and bring on another day which we did. This time same thing. I guess they only treat small animals. I thought Vet means they are trained on all animals. So charged us 70 dollars and no treatment. Again she was traumatized and couldn't get shots she was due for. Don't take you pet there if over 5lbs. I would be doubtful that positive reviews are not friends and family. read more

Me and my husband were recently sent here by our regular family pet veterinarian in Anderson. Our 16 week old teacup chihuahua was showing severe signs of possible parvo virus. When arriving and giving my name they found my name under my maiden name and informed me in a very loud, rude, judgmental and honestly very embarrassing way, that they would not treat or see my pet because they "sent me to collection for a $178 bill that I never paid in 2007." They said that they would allow my husband to be the pet owner for the dog to be seen but only if we paid in advance for all treatment. When I asked if they accepted the Care Credit Card and if I could use myn in my name even tho I couldn't be on the account, The women acted shocked and suprised and said "you qualified for that?" I was insulted and finally at that point very pissed off. I informed this women without showing anger but in a very matter of fact manner, that yes I had a care credit card with a 9 thousand dollar limit, that I just recently bought a home and that I in fact have excellent credit. I asked her about their policies how long do they not see people they send to collection. After all it's been over 13 years and I've never seen it on my credit report. Even if it had been it would have been off after 7. She told me that they never let those people bring their Pets back until the debt is paid. I took out my wallet and stated that I wished to pay the $178 bill from 13 years ago that I couldn't pay as a college student Whose mother was dying. She then said that she could not accept payment and that I would need to contact the collection agency in Los Angeles. I asked for the phone number which she did not have. Before we left later that evening I told this woman that if it hadn't been for us being so desperate to save the life of my daughters puppy, I would not have used their service and left my dog to be treated there. I felt humiliated and judged by a women who needs to be taught customer service skills and at the very least a lesson in human compassion and kindness. read more

I am pretty sure VCA Asher saved my puppies life today. He acutely came down with vomiting, diarrhea and lethargy. They were quick to respond to his distress and made me feel hopeful he wasn't past the point of no return. We are not sure yet what is wrong, but they did a super job today in giving him the care he needed. Home on fluids now resting, drinking and eating (a little) again! I cannot say thank you enough! Went in to pick up medication for my mothers dog as she was critically Ill in the ICU. They will not let me pick up the medication our dog needs because I'm "not on the list!" Even with power of Attorney they state that "maybe" we'll let you have the medication. We'll need to see if a different Vet will help us as My mother is too Ill to call them as they state is necessary. We're voting with our feet as these guys have no heart, and are stuck in the dark ages with their petty control issues. read more

I absolutely do not recommend this veterinary hospital. For as needed emergency care, they do alright but they do not have very kind or compassionate staff aside from their veterinarians. Their quality of veterinary care is to standard but not their customer service skills in regards to their veterinary technicians. I called with some questions about treatment for my dog who has a moderate case of demodectic mange and Crystal was so rude. She was very short in the way she spoke to me and cut me off before I could finish my sentence without even giving me the chance to finish what I was saying. She did not make the interaction a pleasant one & I did not feel like she actually cared to answer any of my questions. I wish I could give this place a higher rating but this is not the first time I have encountered rude or uncaring staff at this facility. read more
