Our 17 year old Chi wasn't eating and had terrible diarrhea. I called and left a message and they called first thing in the morning. Got her in that morning, they checked her out gave her some medicine there and sent us home with more. This was on a Friday and they called early Monday morning to check on her. This is an updated review after I retracted the original review I previously wrote as I was giving my vet the benefit of the doubt. My dog was originally diagnosed with an eye condition that requires him to be on a life long med or he could possibly go blind. Upon my visit to my current vet she advised she would renew his prescription. When I ordered it the prescription was denied by chewy stating that the vet denied it. When I contacted my current vet about this she advised me she would not renew this med until he was seen bye an ophthalmologist in Medford. I then asked why I wasn't told this at the visit or made aware when she made this decision, or any time that I called after to find out why and all she could tell me is she had poor communication with me. So I made an appt for end of March since this ophthalmologist travels to Redding. I asked Westside if they would renew his med until he could be seen. She refused. He ran out of his ointment and after 2 days his eyes got significantly worse so I made an appt at Shingletown vet. At my appointment with Shingletown vet they confirmed he had the eye condition and in fact needed the medication right away. He was then given his medication right there in the office, and they advised that they would renew his medication and there was no need for me to meet with the ophthalmologist and spend another $300. read more

I have read quite a few negative reviews on here but I had quite the opposite experience. We brought Claire in on less than 24 hours notice. Start to finish her exam and treatment were less than an hour. The staff went on and on about how adorable she was and Claire immediately gave the tech a hug because she was scared (she doesn't usually do this). Dr. Rebekah Parker came out after the exam and gave us her findings and recommendations and made sure we had no further questions. Our experience was 5 star and I wish we could adopt the Dr into our family she was so nice and caring. read more

I was told I was terminated from their facility. This establishment is in it only for the money. I took my dog in for routine shots. When I checked him Out they gave me an invoice for $2100. They included cleaning his teeth and while he was under they could removed a cyst. When I explained that the teeth cleaning would have to wait and asked them to explain the litany of other charges that acted offended. My dog came home and was super lethargic. The next day he was throwing up and bad diarrhea. This continued for two more days. I called them to explain and they gave him an RX for diarrhea. After two days his stool hardened slightly. He continued to get even sicker throwing up blood. I called them again and they told me I had been terminated from their facility. So they refused to see my very sick dog. He's been going there for four years now. The complete lack of sympathy is disgusting!!!! They turned away my very sick dog. Don't even consider going there unless you have a large pocket book when entering the facility. Oh, their recording (which has been up for a long time) asks you to be nice to the staff. I felt nervous about some of the negative reviews on here when I was searching for a vet, but, to each their own. We have now been with Westside for over 4 years. We are VERY finicky about who cares for our dogs and we absolutely love the staff here and all of the vets. They take such great care of our doggies. My girl Symphony is a tough cookie, and the techs are so sweet with her. Between 2 doggies, we've had many visits here, including a surgery. They follow up after a sick visit, they will squeeze us in (if possible), and are patient with our beloved frenchies. Thank you Westside! We appreciate you. Also, I get it, visits to the vets are costly but, you will have these prices ANYWHERE in town. I don't ever get the sense that this clinic is money hungry-- they will have business no matter what because they are needed. They always call me to make sure I'm comfortable spending any extra money if needed for extra testing or medications. They are upfront with the costs, and make it up to the customer to see if it's something they can or can't do. They are never pushy with me. This vet asked me for 75 dollars to be seen 2 hours early. I said no I'd wait. I complained online. They came out to my car after I waited 3 hours and they told me to leave because I complained. So after I left they put on my negative review that they only wanted 13 dollars extra for us to be seen 2 hours early. LIES The Number 13 wasn't even MENTIONED So instead of coming outside to clarify what they meant. Or even to apologize for the misunderstanding They sent me away. My daughter was telling me how awesome this place was and how nice all the people were. Finding a veterinarian in shasta county is always a struggle. The VCAs have been buying up all the local vets. Every vet is overcapacity and refers you to Cottonwood or Millville and they were huge wait times today. Luckily I found this vet!!!! They were able to accept new patients so it was my best option for the eye infection. Arrived here and the service was superb! Called in and they hd my new patient paperwork out in under 5 minutes! Then they took my dog back in just 5 more minutes! The staff was all super friendly as well, So happy to find a good vet in Redding! read more

You prolonged my dogs and families suffering for 2 weeks, then charged us a lot of money. You were supposed to call us on Tuesday, but never did. We have been going there for years. My dog is one and a half and has only seen this vet clinic. I really like Dr. Jessie Uhler and trust she is competent. The staff are friendly And warm towards my animal. My only concern is with this clinic's fees. I try to be a responsible dog owner. My dog has pet insurance for injuries and for the first year of her life I purchased the clinics wellness plan to cover all of her vaccines and preventative care. When my dog became a certified therapy dog, however, I needed a form signed stating she was current on her rabies vaccines as she would be working with children. I requested the form be signed during a visit I was paying for. Despite this, the other vet in the practice charged me an additional $25 to essentially sign a form. I could understand if they had to spend extensive time researching or completing the form, but not for a simple doctor signature. I worked in healthcare leadership prior to my retirement and Healthcare professionals for humans do not charge to simply sign a form. It would be considered unethical to do so for an established patient. Also when the vet clinic's wellness plan ended, I received a call from a third-party trying to sell me another plan. This conversation should take place with a staff member who knows and cares about my animal and not a stranger. This was off-putting. Then when they inserted the needle she started convulsing and everyone was on her so she wouldn't hurt herself. She was so scared, it was horrible. Do not come here if you have an exotic pet. My rat suffered from an upper respiratory infection. We would treat it but it kept coming back, however the last two times I went the vet claimed my rat was healthy despite how loud the rattling was and that he was basically a bag of bones. He was very clearly still sick and worse than before. I took both of my rats the last time and she said my healthy rat was over weight and my sick rat was healthy, despite him being only 11 ounces when he passed. I've wasted so much time and money here just to watch my pet suffer and have him die in my arms. I called today saying I needed to get my other rat in for an emergency visit so the same thing doesn't happen again. I explained everything and she said "the best we can do is may 10th". I have searched many avenues to speak to the owner directly, but it seems they do not want the public to know who is in charge. This is my story. I adopted my awesome German Shepherd in 2012. He was a shelter dog and came with many hang ups. We did not let that influence our relationship. I tried several other veterinarians and finally landed on Westside Pet Hospital, because a friend kept insisting you are the best option in town. Subsequently, I enrolled our guy in the Paws Plan, which evolved with his needs. In 2019, as he aged so gracefully, I became aware of the need to get him a deep cleaning for his dental health. I paid $56+- per month for a YEAR until it was time to administer the 'special' cleaning. That happened in August of 2020. It cost me additional money, and a LOT of it!! He needed anesthesia and a stay. Even after his deep cleaning I noticed the problem was still there. His halitosis had not improved. His groomer, who had always done his dental care, wanted to charge me extra because his teeth were so bad! I told her that he had had a deep cleaning and she really doubted that was true. HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS LATER !!!! I decided on a second opinion. I took him to Haven Humane for an exam. At that point, I called Westside Pet Hospital and requested they transfer his records to Haven Humane. Following his exam there, I made the determination to NOT return to Westside Pet Hospital for regular care, but only take Adagio there occasionally. That was August 2020. In February 2021, I called Westside because I believed he had worms. We did the no-touchy-exam and I was charged for an ultrasound (I think) and because they had my credit card, I was brought up to date on a Paws Plan that was NOT authorized by me. $200 dollars later, I was told that my dog was terminally eaten up by a cancer of the abdomen. The callous doctor who spoke to me at my truck, said (and I quote), "we can take care of it. Do you want to let him go now?" *head nod* She wanted me to KILL MY DOG RIGHT THEN AND THERE! ARE YOU NUTS!!? I am so disgusted at what Westside Pet Hospital has become! I was given a death diagnosis. They charged me $200 and told me to calm down when I asked for my money back. Despicable! I am a business owner. I KNOW what word-of-mouth advertising can do for or against a business. I initially came to this business based on word-of-mouth from a friend. At this juncture, I am prepared to go online and warn people to "hold on to your wallet" with YELP and other 'what was your experience' reviews. My experience from one single appointment, to get medicine for worms, on February 16th is absolutely abhorrent. I was charged $200, given a death diagnosis and told to let my baby go now. I was reeling! This NEVER should have been allowed to happen if you intend to retain your reputation as a compassionate caregiver of our beloved pets. I am simply asking for a complete refund of the Paws Plan and whatever else I was billed for that day. I want to erase that day totally, please. Our first and last visit to this vet, it was recommended and so had high hopes. Rude and disinterested reception staff. The entirety of the visit was over 2 and a half hours most of it spent waiting. Vet seemed nice enough and is obviously a dog lover but honestly the problems weren't complicated, and there was never an apology about the wait. So if you value your time and don't want to waste over 2 hours of it find a different vet. read more

When we started a new medication for my dog, the vet made a big deal about how important it was to monitor side effects, give it at the same time daily, not run out, etc. And how she would be in touch to check on him in about two weeks. She never called (office claims they did, but no missed calls or voicemails). When I called because he stopped eating, I was told the vet would call me back. She never did and I had to get help from his previous vet in another state. Tried to get a refill and not only did they have the audacity to charge 10x what it costs at the pharmacy in town (after the vet told me it was just a couple dollars more, so then I decided to fill in town), but then when I asked how to get the prescription to the town pharmacy (while I was in their lot having taken time off work), they told me they could send the prescription to the pharmacy, only to have someone else in the office tell me later that evening that I'd have to come pick it up (I already took time off to go there and was in the parking lot when I'd asked previously). Then I requested the vet call me, and was told she would. Today I followed up and was told she would not and that I could fill the prescription there or get a written script or fill online. I'd have to pay 10x the amount to fill it there, take more time off work to pick up a written script, or order online and continue the delay of my pet not having medicine he needs. They seem disorganised, confused, and do not seem to prioritise the well-being of pets in their care. I would not recommend them. We've lived in 6+ states and thus seen quite our share of vets, and this is the worst vet experience I've ever had. Unfortunately it's still unresolved because my dog does not have the medicine he needs (and that the vet made a big deal of saying to continue, not stop cold turkey, etc). I had brought my dogs to be treated by Dr. Uhler when I first moved here from Arizona. Dr. Uhler also attended my 17 yr old mini schnauzer when I had to say goodbye after a long battle with Cushing's. I have not found a veterinarian at Westside who exhibits her caring and compassion for animals. On June 23, 2022, I brought Max in to have a fox tail removed from his front paw that had become swollen and bleeding. He was taken in the back where I could hearing him screaming in pain. No local anesthesia or numbing. No animal should be subjected to unnecessary pain. When he started screaming in pain, Dr. Parker could have easily given him a local injection, but instead continued to probe and dig. One of my other dogs in Arizona had a foxtail removed from her ear and received light sedation, so I had the expectation of similar treatment for Max. I am posting this review now as I had received post cards and text message that his wellness check was past due. The receptionist was polite but cold and uncaring, only asking if I wished to be removed from alerts. While I recognize there is a nationwide shortage of veterinarians, and many are overwhelmed, there is really no excuse to subject an animal to what is the equivalent of torture. The first time I went to westside was just to get some information. My husband and I had recently rescued a stray cat (Cleopatra), and wanted to get an idea of what we needed to do to keep her healthy and how much it would cost. Right from the start I was impressed with how clean and simple the office is. The woman at the front counter gave me a basic list of prices plus a ton of information to look through (including info on the paw plans, which is a great service worth looking into). She answered my questions and was genuinely interested in Cleo's wellbeing. She didn't push me to make an appointment right then and there, but encouraged me to look at the information with my husband at home. After looking over the information we made an appointment for her spay. I was impressed with how Dr Uhler and the staff handled Cleo. She was at ease the entire time we were at the office. Dr Uhler carefully went over everything that was going to happen with Cleo and answered all of our questions. I didn't feel like we were being rushed into anything. (This is pretty much the opposite of how we were treated by another clinic) I love that they put so much effort into educating their clients about their pets. I felt like I was making well informed decisions. I never felt like I was getting guilt tripped into making a decision. I feel confident that westside is the best thing we could have done for our Cleopatra. I won't go anywhere else. read more

I switched from VCA to Dr. Uhler and never looked back. Caring, knowledgeable, kind. Dr. Uhler has a great way of explaining things before she does or recommends a procedure. I have two dogs (both seniors now) and my Ringo is going to have surgery this Thursday. She explained all the risks involved (he has borderline kidney values which are not a good thing) and I we decided to go ahead with the surgery. I don't know if I can pick him up again and he makes it but I feel confident that my boy is in really good hands. Everybody is so nice, all at the front desk, all techs, and of course the doctor too. She did a similar surgery on my girl a couple of years ago and it was beautifully executed (lump removal on the leg at the joint after the lump popped open) even though that wasn't an easy task. Took my cat Bella in to get a yearly physical and get her shots up to date. Had an appointment for 2 o'clock. The lady at the front desk was very nice and showed me some options for pet insurance. Although I wasn't interested it was nice to see the option. Having the appointment right after lunch I had to wait a little over my scheduled time but once put into a room with my cat the veterinarian and assistant came to give Bella her checkup. Very nice and answered all my questions. Asked for a price check before they gave her her shots and they nice and quick to give me a print out of the price for each shot. They handled Bella very well and understood how nervous she was. Waited in the lobby tell her chart was given to the ladies at front desk. They signed me out booked me for my next appointment for Bella's booster shots and I was out of there in an hour. read more

Been going here over ten years, but this waiting out in the parking lot without a face to face with the dr is stupid. Governor declared businesses go back to normal, but they still won't allow us in, even with a mask. I have a dog that there's no way she'd let a person take her from my car, so no way to bring her to this vet, so whatever. I brought a cat, because they can almost always get you an appointment same day. They said over the phone they no longer do free follow up appointments, which for ten years they always have in order to see if the recommended treatment was working. They said it's now 30% off the normal visit, so we said ok. Instead they charged double the cost!!! They said it was double the cost due to it being curbside, lol!!!!! They don't ALLOW anyone inside the business anymore, therefore they have cut staffing in half to save money, then charging us poor folks double to rake in the dough. They still don't know whats wrong. He's lost over 10 lbs in the past few months and they say it's no big deal and won't listen to any of his past history as if it's irrelevant. We will never know if the new meds are working, because they charge too much for 'curbside' for me to ever go there again. I knew I couldn't take the dogs there like this, but since the cat is in a carrier I figured he'd be ok, he's pretty friendly. But, he's slowly dieing of starvation due to continued and unending more than loose stools. Very sad what this place has turned into in order to take advantage of the pandemic and rip ppl off. My friend in rescue always gets mad when I go to a vet at all, because she reminds me what are they there for. To make money. I don't want them to be poor, but hundreds of dollars for every single five minute telephone call is beyond my means. read more

The last appointment was bizarre. My ACD is on Phenobarbital, which requires blood work in order to assess changes in liver function and drug toxicity. He experienced rapid weight gain and other side effects. I was concerned. I was not informed by the staff about prep for the test - so we had to reschedule. The provider was flippant and stated my dog needed an MRI because "he might only have half a brain". He does not present like something that has "half a brain". However the provider does. I requested an itemized list of the bloodwork because I didn't think I would remember everything that was ordered. For some unknown reason this "triggered" the staff and provider. The provider stated, "So you can go home and look it up!" No - but it would be my prerogative if I did. Westside refused to run bloodwork (that was already drawn) necessary to monitor medication THEY prescribed that has potential adverse reactions. This is irresponsible beyond belief. They don't have to like me - but there's no need to abandon a patient under their care. (I made the mistake of buying the Paw Plan for two dogs. Hello pet insurance.) read more

I have been going to westside pet since 1998. I've had many dogs & they have ALL lived a long & happy life. My latest experience was HORRIBLE! I had to have my dog put down & this overly perky girl came out to the car & grilled us about "what seems to be the problem". I told her we had made the appointment for euthanasia & she insisted we talk to her about "the problem" so she could tell the vet. Mind you I'm hysterical crying.... This dog was a member of our family! I couldn't talk to her so she went & got the Vet who also came out to the car & grilled us! She said "I'm only trying to help". My husband got a little curt with her & she has the nerve to tell us "you're welcome to leave!" This dog has been going to this vet since 2007 or 8. They should know that if we made the decision to put her down it was the right thing for her. She was suffering! This was over a month ago & I'm still traumatized by the way we were treated! My family recently adopted a 4 year old Basset Hound, Jack, and are fairly new to the Redding area so we were shopping around for a new vet. After seeing Westside Pet Hospital's great yelp reviews, we decided to give them a try. I am so glad we did. They have been absolutely great. I am always a little leery of vets and how it always seems to be $300 every visit. This office is not like that at all. They do not try to up sell you and they really try to keep the costs down. My dog Leo got attacked by another dog and ended up needing to have surgery... Westside was recommended to me by Dr. Cruz my other vet... I was super happy with my experience there they explained everything and didn't do what I call "dog guilt" .... which is making me feel bad for not choosing to have all of the pain medication administered or... electing to wait on a procedure. I wasn't going to write this review...but then I kept getting coupon emails in my inbox and I just got so damned mad that I decided I had to write it. For Simba. This place...was wonderful. All the way up until I brought my 3 year old, otherwise healthy male cat who was  a regular patient in for an abscessed paw. Worst mistake of my poor babies life. They lanced it, but there wasn't much in it, so the vet, who wasn't our regular vet decided to leave a drain tube in...FOR 5 DAYS and, without asking me first which I might add, gave my cat a liquid antibiotic I was unfamiliar with. They had asked me if I wanted liquid or pill and told me they'd be back with him. I said I wasn't sure, I've never had an issue giving pills. They came back and told me they'd given him the liquid because "it's easier" and doesn't cost much more. I thought to myself okay thanks for the (not)choice. Within a couple days my cat was sick and vomiting. Within a couple more he was back in the vet, nearly dead. He had gotten a urine blockage. I thought it was just him and the absess situation until I pulled him out from under the couch cold and nearly lifeless. I took him in. Now I will say Dr. Uhler is amazing, and she worked with my kids and I to get him better and get him home. She is truly better than this place deserves. I asked if it could have been the antibiotic and they said it usually doesn't do that sort of thing, more likely it was stress. The antibiotic was "safe" I looked it up, because it was the only factor that was different and he got sick right after getting it. It absolutely had had situations where it caused severe side effects, some urinary related. It said so right in the warnings. I brought it up and no one really had an answer for me other than they would figure it out and talk to the vet who saw him (who no longer works there and who I hadn't seen after that). After that it was sort of evade and tell me that doesn't typically happen but there's always a risk. Well that risk wasn't explained when he decided to give my cat an injection I didn't ask for. It's probably stress they said. Our cat traveled in a car 2500 miles and stayed in random hotel rooms when we moved back from Louisiana, stayed a week with a pet sitter, moved 3 times and was boarded when we moved back, this cat lived with 3 kids under 10. He was always around stress and loud sounds. He was 3 years old and we'd had him since 8 weeks. It wasn't stress. He continued to have problems at least once a month for the next year, and my husband was always able to alleviate his bladder. Once I had to bring him into see Dr. Uhler after for it. We were able to handle it at home. Water fountain, wet food, bladder spasm meds. This week, on Tuesday, he was acting Ill and my husband tried to alleviate him. No dice. I took him in and he saw a new vet at the clinic rather than Dr uhler. I had to take my mom home and I left him with my husband, and gave my card info to the very rude receptionist who never greets people or acknowledges them... to see the dr. Within a half an hour I was being called told that it was a blockage too bad to alleviate on our own and he would have to spend another 3 days and have the same thing done $1200, and then to keep it from happening again it would be another $2300 to make him a girl basically. So $3500 to bring my baby home. That's highway robbery for an issue I feel they played part in the first place and didn't want to take responsibility for. In 10 minutes I lost my best friend, I didn't get to say goodbye and I was coldly hastened into a decision to end his life because It was closing time. Then I was charged $380 for the visit and cremation since it would be an extra $200 to take him home. Then I found out after the fact that I don't even get an ern with him, that he just gets tossed into a pile of cats and creamted like he was nothing. I am so SO SO very angry and outraged at this, and nothing, NOTHING will ever make it right. They stole my friend from me, I will NEVER bring another animal here. Not ever. They should have a policy that states they don't do de-clawing of cats. After serious consideration I went for a consultation for my strictly indoor cat. Already feeling lguilty but not having any other options but to get rid of the cat (we've tried everything but the cat is destroying my front room and bedroom furniture and putting her outside is not an option because of where we live; the coyotes would get her) decided to get a consult. The vet tech told me it was MEAN and then the vet had me in tears making me feel guilty. I understand the vet was making me aware but they need to have better sympathy that not everyone that considers de-clawing is a Terrible Inhumane person. They should just have a policy that they don't do cats and not waste my time and money on a consultation... read more
