Very pleased with Dr. Matthews care of my aging cat who had not seen a vet in about three years.

Disappointed! They gave me a liquid antibiotic that got me thru 4 days of 7. My doctor visit was $340. I gave my cat a water diluted antibiotic for Sunday & Monday, until I could tell them I was out. They said I must have been doing something wrong or my syringe was incorrect, to bring everything in. I did. My mark on the syringe was correct but they pleaded with me that I should have had enough. I did not spill it, as it is an anti spill bottle. I gave the correct dosage everyday. I told them there was not much in the bottle to begin with, They gave me more, in a different bottle that was black, a new syringe that was the same size, kept my old bottle and charged me $41. I barely got 2 full doses out of the new bottle ( bubbles at end of 2nd dose). I pulled the gasket top off and it was indeed empty. I have been generally happy with the vets there but this situation really didn't feel right which is why I am writing about it. I am not even sure how to protect myself in the future. I guess I would politely ask them to prove it or convince me there is enough or take a picture of the bottle if the liquid is visible along with their written commitment of the quantity in the bottle. I guess just beware when you cannot count your antibiotic and it is liquid!!!! read more

Unable to give 0 stars, Do not use as a vet office. My puppy started being seen here for regular visits. Puppy had issues breathing, called for emergency appointment and was told that they did not have any appointments until hours later. I again told them he was not able to breath and all they could say is sorry. This was our regular vet for our dog. Month later in similar situation. I started seeing a new vet and due to the power outage our new vet could not see him because none of their equipment is working. Called Dana Park Vet again for puppy not breathing and again appointment hours later. Office staff does not understand emergency and will not accommodate. I have to say Dr. Hanes is very good just office staff is terrible. 2 x puppy not breathing was out immediately in oxygen both times. This was a true emergency. read more

I was a client at Dana Park Veterinary for nearly twenty years, and literally spent THOUSANDS for Vet care for my animals. Everything from surgeries, to vaccines, to wellness exams for a number of dogs and cats. I could always count on them for urgent care as well. But no more. I'm not sure what happened last Spring that prompted every Vet to leave in rapid succession, but that's what happened. After having appointments cancelled and repeatedly denied appointments for lack of staff and other ridiculous reasons, I will no longer be a taking my pets there. I don't know if there was a change in management, but it is no longer a facility that cares about its clients or their pets. read more

They opened after hours back then to treat our Chihuahua who was attacked by our neighbor's Shar Pei. The Dr treated our dog as if it were her own. I want to first start out by saying that I never write negative reviews because I know how important they are to a business. With that said this review is in hopes that what happened to my fiancé and I never happens to any one else and hopefully Dana Park wont be so careless again with another dog. We had taken our 7 month old puppy in to see them because she had began to leak urine when she would sleep. They said it was just a UTI and put her on antibiotics which helped it a little but did not solve the problem. After 3-4 visits for the same condition which they only ever offered to do urine samples and told me again and again she was just prone to UTI's and its why she was leaking I finally pushed back after doing some google searches. I asked if they thought it was urine incontinence and the vet told me maybe but didn't run any tests just put her on Prion. That did solve the problem for a while and she stayed on the medication. Fast forward to two weeks ago and my now year and 9 month old dog began crying out in pain when she would get up and began vomiting a lot. I didn't want to take her to Dana Park because of my past experiences and after calling around to some vets who showed concern and said I needed her to be seen right away, Dana Park was the only place I could get her into. She was in so much pain that she couldn't get into my car which she used to alway run and jump in as she's a big dog. When we got to Dana Park she wasn't as bad but she gets very nervous at the vet and they would not allow me to go inside due to "COVID". She was in there for about 10 minutes when the vet called. The vet said this " She seems nervous but isn't telling me she is in pain and I don't know why she is throwing up." When I explained yet again why I brought her in she said well maybe she pulled a muscle but still I don't know why she threw up so much. She then said to put her on an anti inflammatory, brought my sweet girl back to me and charged me $115 dollars for an "I don't know" and a couple pills. The next day after giving her the pills things went down hill quickly. She couldn't even get up and was crying out in pain even more. I called Brink in Palo Cedro and explained what was happening and they got me an appointment for the next day. When I took her there they let me come inside, listened to me, spent so much time with me and truly cared unlike Dana Park. They did blood work, X-Rays, gave me pain medicine, special food and told me to not give her the anti inflammatory. She seemed to be doing a little better but then started throwing up again even worse but was not in pain. When her blood work came back unfortunately Dr. Kristen let me know that my girl was in Stage 4 kidney failure and her levels were so far gone that there was nothing they could do. She still brought me in, showed and explained her blood work so I understood and gave her some shots to help her feel a little better. She also told me the pills Dana Park gave me were toxic to her due to her condition which is why she was so much sicker. My fiancé who is a firefighter and had been gone for 27 days on fires was able to come home because she was quickly getting worse. We were so grateful to have the time with her to say goodbye, love her and hold her but unfortunately we had to put her to rest. Heartbroken is an understatement. She was our baby and best friend. I am PISSED at myself for ever having taken her to Dana Park but also so angry that they never offered blood work or cared enough to listen to me throughout those visits and made me feel dumb for bringing her in. If we could have caught this earlier my sweet girl probably would still be alive and we would be able to manage it and give her a longer life. So Dana Park, I hardly care about you taking hundreds of dollars from us for nothing but your careless vets took something so much greater from our family and you should be ashamed. My husband and I are new clients to Dana Park vet. I am impressed with the architecture of the hospital and how clean and tidy the inside of the lobby is. Our animals are well taken care of and I had a great experience with the doctor and tech. However, I believe the receptionists are in need for better training on professionalism and customer service skills. Not only did I feel like we received a hint of shortness and attitude from the afternoon receptionist (I believe her name was Sarah), but it is very improper for her to be openly talking poorly of her coworkers. She may not have known I was in the hallway coming out of the restroom while she was calling another employee an expletive to her coworker in regards to how an appointment was scheduled at a later time than normal, but it's not a good look for a veterinarian hospital. It makes one wonder how they openly would talk about a client. I think the hospital in general is great but I believe Sarah to be very rude and unprofessional. She comes across as very fake and even though we are there for the Doctors and the techs, when the people you meet in the office are phony, it makes you want to go elsewhere. It's an awkward and uncomfortable experience when the people who work reception are not forthcoming and then you hear them talking crap about current and past employees in front of customers whether they're aware that we hear or not. read more

I have I mean my extended family of dogs and cats have clients of Hilltop vet. and Dana Park Vet for twenty two years and primarily the attending Doctor has been Dr. Haines. Lately or for some time I felt something was a miss and I mentioned my concerns with my wife about the recent times we went to Dana Park or Call for treatment for our dog or cat. I then heard after not being able to secure my appointment with Dr Haines the he was stepping back some after the purchase of a large veterinary concern. The it started to make sense looking at my prescription charges and the overall front desk not recognizing either myself or my wife as they had for so many years or decades. We recently had a fairly extensive matter taken on by Dr. Hoff who seems concerned and Dows follow ups, but unclear as to the extent of the matter and it would be done by tech. We did research on the meds we felt were very high priced after the first two but the third was over the top and grabbed my wife's attention. We researched, Apples for apples and oranges, you get it. 1-1/4 the price over other facilities or on line. Dr. Haines if you read this I would like to talk. Jim Eagle. read more

Dana Park has unfortunately gone down hill very quick, I called a few days ago to get a confirmation on an appointment, left 3 messages and still 4 days later haven't got a call back. I walked in to see what's going on and both the front desk receptionists are nose deep in their phones. Didn't even acknowledge me, the gal that helped me was very rude and unprofessional. Use to love this place but rude staff.. the doctors are great we have seen a few different, they worked my sweet French bulldog a few times but most recent to remove two fox tails one at the ear drum and one in between his toes. To my surprise ...they sedated my dog in order to get the one in the ear. I was pretty disappointed that when they asked me to come back to check his ear in a week (P.O. check) that they wanted another 50.00 on top of our 300 bill to remove the 2 foxtails. had they not charged me for a 3 mins P.O. check and had the office staff been nicer I would have given them 5 stars the front staff was not the least bit friendly, they all kinda look like they hate there jobs,not one smile.After that visit we have taken our Business elsewhere. My cat Luna had a very rare tooth abrasion and both her top canines were not only growing straight out but they were also impacting other teeth. Dr.Byrd was my kittens doctor and not only was she sweet and extremely kind and patient as I asked so many questions haha, she also did a lot of research prior to the surgery as she had done extractions but never to this extent. She offered several follow ups (at one point Luna had a mild infection in the gums after surgery) and didn't charge me for any of my three follow ups I only had to pay $20 for medication which help immediately!! The price is worth it because you know your animals are in good hands! Expect to wait at times because they are working very hard during these crazy COVID times!! Dana park Veterinarian office is outwardly and inwardly a true vet, they are extremely punctual on getting you in and work with your school, work and other daily needs. The doctors are if not overly thorough and explain in the best and easy way possible making you feel at ease. Dr. Johnson thoroughly examined and re-examined my dog zeike from top to bottom and came to very conclusive conclusions which makes the owner feel better. Dr. Haynes was very intelligible about what was going on and was very considerate of our budget, understanding that I am a full time student, and my wife being the lone income. Without Dr. Haynes' dedication and love for animals, we would have been unable to help Molly more than we could. This certain case was uncurable. Not because of lack of trying on the practices part, Molly was just in a hurry to get to the dog park in the sky. When Molly passed on March 28, it seemed everyone who worked there mourned, and that is a trait I find admirable. That emotion distinguishes a veterinarian and family, and I feel like through this, I've gained a family. Clean, Friendly, Happy, and Kind Veterinary staff. I was so anxious about taking my puppy to get neutered. I also wanted to get him heart guard, up to date on shots, and rabies. I was warned on their higher prices around the Redding area, however I thought for everything they did for my puppy $328 was an amazing price. He is also a 6 month old 50 lb puppy. I also got take home meds for him. As soon as I pulled up and walked my puppy in I was instantly relaxed. He ran right back with the technician. Right then I had no worries. I felt guilty but what owner doesn't for a neuter Procedure. Dr. Jeff Did my dog's operation. Everything looks clean. Tiberius is calm and not even bothered by his surgery. The office is clean and welcoming, I liked that you can see in the window's their kennels. The pets get to have fresh light all day. Dr. Haynes and Dr. Johnson are both caring, thorough professionals. I have been so impressed by the level of attention my cat has received that I will not take him anywhere else! We were referred to Dr. Haynes by a local vet who had run out of ideas on how to treat my cat. He (Dr. Haynes) went over Pokie's medical records with a fine tooth comb. He noticed inconsistencies in the notes and even pointed out Pokie's birthday was different on several of the pages. Color me impressed! My own doctors fail to measure up to that kind of care! The facility is extremely neat and well run. The exam rooms, while small, are plentiful and very clean. The back treatment area is clearly well run. Dana Park is the animal equivalent to the Mayo Clinic here in Northern California. The best of the best. read more

I tried to get an appointment today for my new kitty that has the snuffles. I was somewhat disconcerted with the callousness of the lady who answered the phone. She was cold, insensitive, made me feel like I was not being a responsible pet owner, and honestly made me cry after we hung up. Today marks one week of acquiring my new kitty and I love her so much already. I just feel like if you are going to be in this industry you should learn to at least act like you care. People, like me, call for help with their animals and sometimes feel desperate for that help. I understand you are busy, but take a nanosecond to at least pretend like you care about the person who is calling for help with their animal. Here are some useful words and definitions that may be used in future training activities with office staff: * Benevolence - the quality of being well meaning; kindness. * Empathy - the ability to understand and share the feelings of another. * Grace - courteous goodwill. An attractively polite manner of behaving. * Kindness - the quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate. * Sympathy - feeling of pity and sorrow for someone else's misfortune. My experience at Dana was stressfull and in compassionate. I guess I have had good fortune with my vets. I have difficulty understanding how a Vetrinarian can not have compassion for those who rely on them. My fur baby and I were on a road trip in mid March. My boy had recently been diagnosed with diabetes and required 2 shots of Vetsulin daily. While driving through Redding CA. I notice his Vetsulin needed a refill. I called his Vet and advised her of this upcoming delimma. She told me no problem go to a local Vetrinarian in Redding. Ask them for a refill. They could call and speak with Murphy's Vet and get the prescription via fax or email. I located this Vet and drove to their location. Because of Covid I was directed to call them from the parking lot, which I did. I told the receptionist what was needed. She advised that she would speak with the vet and come out and register Murphy. Yeah a possible delimma deverted. NOT. After about 10 minutes she call me and advised me that her bet would help and that closing time was nearing. I was shocked. What kind of VeterinarIan would mot give a pet it's needed Vetsulin!!! read more

I dealt with several Veterinary Clinics until I was referred by a friend to Dr Haines and crew when they were on Hilltop. The new Clinic at Dana Park is modern and surprisingly spacious. While Dr Haines and Dr Dyson are taking more of a secondary roll now Dr Townsell, Byrd, and Hoff are the young guns. As we raise Vizslas from time to time and currently have 6 adults and 6 new borns in our care we tend to be busy and make frequent trips to see the Veterinarian. Preventive care is the key to good health. We recently expected a litter and while we knew when the litter was due this is the first time they went past the due date. As this is the first unplanned litter we had in over 25 years we did not worry until Lassie was 6 days past due. When she started to labor and passed the first two pups time got away from us and we called for assistance. One more pup and nearly 4 hours of labor we agreed that we had to move forward with a C-section and due to risks with future pregnancies a Spay as well. Dr. Hoff and the crew cleared a room before we came in and the floor was cleaned to hospital standards before we arrived. The caring and understanding of the entire staff including Dr. Byrd who arrived for the late shift was exemplary. We have 6 beautiful pups that a few days after birth are already spoken for and Lassie is the good Mother she was before nursing the rapidly growing puppies. I can not adequately express my thankfulness at having such skilled and caring professionals within a few miles of home. read more
