They must employ actual angels at this place. I was scrambling to find my cat Nacho a vet after noticing he was clearly in distress. I called all over and the VCA were the only ones able to get him in right away. When I dropped off my fur baby, everyone was kind and the place clean and organized. I knew he was in good hands. I had no idea how good. My kitty ended up being much sicker than we thought- the doctor text me to inform me of what was going on and sent links full of information. I called and spoke to Kristen, who helped me make a good (and surprisingly affordable) plan to board Nacho through the weekend for care. She listened to me cry and gave me support like you wouldn't believe. She even texted me that evening to give me an update. The next morning I called to check in and spoke to Dani, who also had was incredibly kind and supportive. I must've sounded like a crazy person, but her compassion never wavered. She also kept me informed about the weekend schedule so I would know not to worry if I didn't hear from them so much. I didn't expect to hear from them Saturday, one of the weekend staff, Sterling, messaged Kristen, who on her time off, went out of her way to forward me the messages to keep me in the loop about my baby. They even sent pictures to ease my worry. I haven't even finished working with this group, and I am so incredibly thankful and moved by their ability to offer incredible care, not just to the pets, but to the worried/mildly insane owners. They will be getting our business for all the years to come- and also some giant hugs and tears of gratitude from me if they'll have it. read more

We were fire evacuees from Shingletown and our local vet recommended VCA Asher Animal Hospital to shelter our two cats while we were displaced. I was so very distraught and anxious, and each and every staff member was super compassionate, helpful, patient and very warm and friendly. They even hugged me when I cried!! They immunized my cats for free!! We were just blown away by this service, their care and professionalism!! They helped us when we had no other options for our cats, took the worry away about keeping them safe during the fire, and immunizing them at no cost to us. They are mountain kitties and had no shots or immunizations, but that is permanently changed, I will be a devoted customer for the rest of my cat's lives! I would NOT recommend this place if you own a large dog. We have used this place in the past and had no complaints. However, now we are Cane Corso owners and breed discrimination is real. We attempted to board an 11 month old Corso puppy who is a goofball. He has NEVER been aggressive. Never bitten anyone. Incredible with kids and other animals. We boarded our sweet boy on Monday for a trip out of state. We get a call Thursday 2 hrs before they close telling us we need to come pick him up asap. Their story is that he wasn't eating and had become aggressive. They said he lunged "unprovoked" at a staff member. He has been boarded at another location with ZERO issues. The reduced appetite is completely understandable as he's away from home and out of his usual routine.  I don't believe for a second that after 11 months he suddenly became aggressive and started lunging at people. The truth is that he is a PUPPY that LOOKS intimidating and weighs 100lbs. People take one look at him and assume the worst. And once they have that mindset, it's a wrap. I can't express my disappointment, shock, and frustration at the unprofessional, incompetent handling of our boy. This is supposed to be a veterinarian that is proficient at dealing with dogs. I can only assume that "if" these behaviors had taken place with a smaller breed, we would not have received the same call. As Corso owners we have experienced this with random people we come across but did not expect this - especially from a place that should know better. Perhaps the staff are new or untrained or simply ignorant. Our pup has been in obience training since 4 months and has been heavily socialized so this is not a matter of him being the problem.  I regret trusting them with our boy! Luckily we have a friend who was able to pick him up and he witnessed first hand how they acted afraid of our pup. They wouldn't even approach or unlock his supposedly "luxury" kennel. Seriously?!? For a puppy? I'm thankful that we got him out of there and will never utilize their services again. read more

I have a large German shepherd who gets very difficult when around other dogs, I really needed to get vaccines before boarding him. My own vet couldn't work me in for over a month, I called VCA at 9:00am on a Saturday morning and was told to come in a 11:00. I was not a current patient, but they were so good and professional I will move all my records to VCA, I highly recommend them, they worked hard to make way so my dog would not be around other dogs and took care of everything we needed, the price was so reasonable and they were very quick and efficient. read more

I took our elderly cat there. She was 17 and had been losing her sight and ability to walk was going as well. They did an amazing job at being compassionate when it was time to put her down. The actions needed to happen after were horrible though. We paid for a nice urn and ceramic paw print and it us now over 2 months later and our cat is in a tea tin and no paw print either. We were going to make them our permanent vet, but after this we won't be back. After all the excuses my wife lost her emotional support animal and our fur babies memory is scarred because they didn't care enough. read more

Was very surprised at reading some of the reviews. I moved to Redding 4 years ago from the Bay Area and have a 9 year old Cane Corso who has received excellent care at affordable cost. When I first started with Care, the Office Manager bred Cane Corso so they are more familiar with large dogs than most owners. Based reviews, some people have unreasonable expectations. I will not be going back to VCA Care. They charged me $1800.00 dollars for an exam and medicine for my two Chihuahuas. They told me that both dogs had eye infections and one of the dogs also had an ear infection. Like a fool I paid the $1800.00 first and then went to get a second opinion. I was told that my dogs had NO infections. Their eyes were slightly off due to their "OLD AGE". I guess VCA is trying to make up for the money lost during covid. read more

Our 13 years old boy wasn't doing well few weeks ago, we thought he wasn't going to make it. He was falling few times while hubby took him for his walk and there were sores all oVer hiis body aNd on his paws. We took him Care on Lake/Hilltop, they are THE BEST. This place is outrageous outrageous!!!!! they already charged the highest basic office visit fee, during normal business hours, than any vet I've ever been to in my entire life. I'm 44 years old, and have had pets my entire life, and I am from the Bay area, so saying they charge the highest vet office visit fee ever is saying a lot!!! The most I've ever paid for basic vet office fee is $65. They charge $98 during their normal business hours and then after hours just to bring your animal inside, they charge something like $350! That's without anything even being done! So, basically They have a setup that only works for the wealthy 1%, which is a minute quantity in this poor area of California California, and if your pet has the nerve to have an emergency after hours after hours, which is when every pet I've ever owned has had an emergency come after 5 PM on a weekday or over the weekend, then then they completely take advantage of your unfortunate situation. My cat died A-day and a 1/2 ago, because she had the nerve to have an emergency situation where where she needed immediate attention, but I also am not made of money, so I couldn't afford $350 just for her to be seen, let alone anything that might have needed to be done. These greedy vile fuckers are an atrocity and proves these has to be a mandate on how much vet clinics can charge for any office visit fee. Horrible horrible human beings! read more

We have been absolutely impressed with Dr. Tennant, and the staff here. They love our dog, and treat him so well, as well as their intentionally towards us. When we first came in I was a few months pregnant with our first child, and just today we visited with our nearly three month old baby! Dr. Tennant completely remembered us and was super happy to see us. They worked to find the best solution for our pups skin problems at a cost that is doable with our budget. Loved this location because they were close to home & seemed to treat my pup well! I've only been to their office once or twice & had a pretty okay experience. And I love that they send reminder emails and post cards when your animal is due for services! That's super helpful, however I do not like that they can be very short/rude on the phone when I call asking about appointment info. I understand that working in a fast paced setting like their animal hospital can be stressful but that doesn't excuse a poor attitude with their customers/patients. Will be switching to another local veterinary facility for my pups regular needs & will use their services as needed. read more

I love this place, they are very good to my kitties. When my new kitty got hurt awhile back they were very good to get her in quickly and take amazingly loving care of her. Sometimes appointments are about a week out which for me is the only downside sometimes I'd like to get my kitty in right away, but when they are there they have excellent care. I recently wrote a really good review, but had to change it due to my dog catching a skin infection at this office, she has never had ANY PROBLEMS WHATSOEVER! I took her to get spayed here and not the haven humane center thinking it was going to be more sanitary & they would do a better job, but I was wrong. Let me start off by saying my dog is an inside dog, I bathe her twice a week. The night before her surgery I bathed her really well I always inspect her to make sure she doesn't have any ticks or fleas because of went I let we out to p&p. She had NOTHING. When I picked her up after being spayed her whole snout was bleeding, I noticed when I got home she was bleeding all over her bed, I proceeded to call the office & let them know, they told me that maybe she could've been trying to get out of the kennel they put them in after surgery, so I said ok I thought it was strange but figured I would give it a couple days to see if it heals, and no it got wayyyyyy WORSE! Mind you I have a 19 month old baby in the house! So I was very worried it could be contagious etc. Well Couple days pass and she starts getting open wounds on her paws and arms, then she gets these two big bumps on her back. I called the vet told them how it got worse. Her snout kept bleeding & then her paws got really really swollen. Made the appointment to the office. I saw the vet he examined her but didn't even take a blood sample or skin sample to check it under a microscope nothing, he just said it was dog acne, I was like wow this is what dog acne looks like bleeding everywhere and open wounds and big red bumps, well I then trusted them again he gave me antibiotics for her and a shampoo to wash her everyday for two weeks, I had to spend more money $30 something for the re check exam (which honestly I think should've been waived) due to the fact she got the skin disease in there! But anyways then I had to pay another 30 something for the shampoo, and only $10 for her antibiotics ( from Walmart) anyways about $70 more on top of her getting spayed a couple days before. She is still on the antibiotics I am waiting for it to go away it has gotten better but she still has these big red bumps inside her paws and on her arm, her snout has gotten a little better she isn't bleeding anymore but still has bumps, the big bumps on her back exploded and she had dry blood on the hole. It's so sad that my dog has to go through this she usually sleeps in our bedroom I've had to keep her in the laundry room for 3 weeks already :( my son is always playing with her and I have to keep her away because I'm scared its contagious. All because I thought it would be more hygienic & professional than the humane society, but honestly I wish I would've taken her to haven I would've saved a lot of money & a lot of headaches! Also her incision is so long & high up, I've seen a couple of my friends dogs and it doesn't look so big like hers but anyways I'm just happy she's alive I'm going to wait for the antibiotics to finish if she isn't healed up I will then proceed to take her, but I might take her to another vet. Praying she gets better already. read more

Our pooch needed some attention to a cyst type thing on his eye. Even though it was Christmas week, they got us in and worked with us. We've since had the surgery and also got his teeth cleaned and had to extract one. EXCELLENT customer service, work and attentiveness. We are new to Redding and had established with another vet in the area but were disappointed. My animals never get sick or hurt during "banker's hours" and the other vet wasn't able to find the time to see him (with an open wound) even during their regular advertised hours - told me to take him to VCA if we needed something before the next available appt. - two weeks away. Care Animal hospital "squeezed us in" and had the extended hours that allowed Nikko to get help on the day he needed it; before a problem became an emergency. Dr. Tennant was caring and thorough - staff was warm and friendly. Nikko is doing great and I would highly recommend Care Animal Hospital to anyone. read more

My kitten was in really bad shape on Wednesday. I work a normal job, 8-5, and had just gotten home around 5:20 when I noticed my kitten was mouth breathing and sneezing a ton. It really scared me...I told a friend of mine what was happening and she recommended Care Animal Hospital to me. I drove as fast as I could and reached the hospital by 5:55. The hospital closes at 6 so this was really improper of me to do, but instead of telling me they were closed they took me in with open arms after seeing the look on my face with my cat in my arms. All of the staff was helpful and friendly, and gave me great insight on how to care for a kitten that was as sick as mine was. I am very grateful for all of their time spent in after hours taking care of me and my kitten. A big thank you to them all! I used to go here! I really liked it in the beginning. They are too impersonal and expensive. They had me paying $80 a month for a prescription my 19 yr old dog did not need. The medicine was causing her awful side effects. She had colitis. I found another vet and I put her on CBD oil and everything cleared up besides changing her food. She is 21 now and still thriving. I brought my new lab by for advice on mites and the receptionist would not even let me show her plus she said my full blooded Lab looked like a Shar- Pei because she had a wrinkled face. She does not belong in a vets office working. I went to another vet on Westside. He is very caring and Great. My Lab is going on 6 months now and is free of mites too. The only thing that they have going is their coffee machine. Not a very friendly staff even after going there for at least 3 years and spending a lot there. read more

This place is exceptional! My teacup Yorkie was extremely sick when we first got her and wasn't likely to make it. The staff was amazing. They were kind through my tears, called me from home to check on her, and best of all, helped her get better. I went in almost daily during her sickness because I could not hold her down to syringe feed her. The techs would take her in and let me practice with them how to do it. They are so friendly and always want what's best for my pup and our family. They treat my dog like it's their dog. I would highly recommend this place. read more
