I just had my dog in for a blood test for ticks and whatever. They call the test HW+Tick Dz test AC100. they charged me $97.35!!! I called another local vet and their charge is $57. I get my meds online to save a few $ but VCA won't okay the Rx until they make me jump through hoops. So to save $, I had to spend $97.35!!!! Ridiculous. Also found out that another local vet charges $65 for an exam - VCA charges $85. Also they have only 2 vets and one is on maternity leave. read more

This location is absolutely terrible. If zero stars was an option, that's what I would given. Here's the thing I'm not speaking on the skill of the vet or her techs. The head veterinary actually was very nice and seemed passionate about her job. The one tech I had dealings with, same thing. The problem is the way the place is run and the constant lying. Also the receptionist is terrible. We have a rescue. She is a dachshund. 14 years old. We've had her since she was 8. She's considered special needs because she is blind. She is an amazing little girl. She had a very rough first eight years being a blind little weiner in some really bad shelters. She's come a long way. That being said, she does not like the vet. She gets terrible anxiety. Must bring up bad memories. Must remind her of shelters. The vet knows all of this. We dropped her off at 8:15am for a teeth cleaning. We were told that she would be second and we'd be able to pick her up in the afternoon and that they would call with up dates. By 2:30 we hadn't heard anything. We became a little worried because you just never know with anesthesia. I called at 2:45 and was told they were running late and were working on Harley at that moment and would call when they finished. They finally called at 4:50 and said the just finished and we could pick her up at 8pm!! When I got there I was not happy. I asked how long the whole process took and she said about an hour and twenty minutes start to finish. Comfirming i caught them in another lie. Anyways that practice is a mess. A 2.7 rating is unfair to 2 doctors I had experience with Dr. Bowers and Dr. Fellenstein. Fir they deserve better for professional compassion and awesome ability. That being said, recently had a very bad experience, had an appointment at 11 the text said to be there at 10 50 I was there waiting outside till then being early. Now my appointment was just an anal glad expression something that could be done in 5 10 minutes cause I have 2 dogs. Waking I understand I have to wait...some. as I'm waiting 3 appointments go ahead of my 11 o'clock. Now it's 11 25. Sitting on a chair with no back on it for the majority of time till I seen regular chairs do i go sit for like 5 minutes still nothing. So I want to know what's going on I ask I'm told they didn't see me Sitting out on the waiting room something to do with a line of site. No your wrong new person. I've never seen you there before. I wish I had a name. The other person didn't say anything, I think she knew. Mot to mention the lady the that checked the charts ignored me also cause she knew about the appointment when i finally asked what what going on .As far the usual service has been great. No complaints. This person needs to learn. I had to leave cause of another appointment at noon, being that I'm off Fridays. Needles to say but my dogs are still not taken care for this matter. We recently moved to the area and selected this office because the location is close to us. What a mistake! The first appointment went fine with the vet and I in agreement that we needed to meet with the veterinary cardiologist before moving forward. I did get an appointment and see them in the course of about a month. With those recommendations, we went back to this clinic on a Saturday for routine vaccinations and to make the appointments for dental work and to have a small growth removed from my dog's eyelid. This is where things begin to go downhill. 1) they redid bloodwork from our first appt the month prior that wasn't necessary (it was for parasites) even though I was assured it wasn't repeat work. When I got home and compared the receipts, that's when I realized it was the same so I paid needlessly twice. Accidents happen so I decided to let it go. 2) then I realized my dog got her rabies vaccine but I did not receive her tag or certificate that I was told was in the paperwork. So I called and the person rudely told me that they didn't know how to help me and someone else was going to have to call me back. Fine. I wait 3 days and call back myself. This person was nicer and supposedly I'm receiving the needed tag and paperwork in the mail... still waiting. New computer system so I let it slide. 3) set my dog's surgery date but they wanted the cardiologist recommendations from them directly and don't have them. Was told that if for any reason they didn't receive them or they couldn't follow them, I would be contacted before the surgery date. If I hear nothing, everything is fine and we are good to go. A week and a few days after our 2nd appt at the clinic is supposed to be the surgery date. 4) we arrive early for surgery on a Monday and wait almost a half hour just to meet with a technician. They seem busy but I'm cool waiting as they looked like they had an emergency come in. Get back with the tech and sign the paperwork electronically. I ask her in passing if everything looked fine with the cardio paperwork. She just stares at me like a kid caught with their hand in the cookie jar. Ummm no we didn't but we asked for it and I'm sure it will be fine. My response was absolutely not. I told her that I have a copy of the cardiologist reports at home, and she gives me her email to send them right away. Suddenly, my copies are acceptable. I should have been thinking clearer and just left with my dog. Instead I tell her I do not consent to anything related to the surgery until the recommendations are reviewed by the vet! I get home 15 minutes later, email her the report right away, and remind her that I do not consent in the email. The vet calls me about 15 minutes after that to tell me that they cannot abide by the requirements set forth in the report. He goes on the say that he figured all along that he wouldn't be able to do it! Never once in the consult the week before did he say that to me. He says he only called me because I told the tech I don't consent to proceed. Wow. Just wow. I tell him that's correct and I'm coming right now to pick up my dog. Arrive back at the clinic, tell the desk I'm here to pick up my dog, and she tells me that I owe then over $100! For what? She doesn't know. I pay all my bills in full. Turns out they decided to run bloodwork and tests even after I told the tech I don't consent and emailed to confirm (she responded to my email too and said she understood). Absolutely not paying that so the office manager comes out to the lobby. Very unprofessional. Wants to hash things out in front of everyone coming in and out. She leaves, comes back, and tells me that because of my miscommunication, that they will graciously waive the charges for today. No apology. Instead she told me that this isn't the way their clinic operated. But it seems like it does to me! The office manager didn't appear to take my concerns about my dog's life seriously even at one point smiling and smirking as we talked. To me there is nothing funny about knowingly and willing risking an animal's life just for the sake of profit. read more

My little boy, Dipstick, became a part of our family during Covid-19. He is a playful, sweet, and very happy cat. My boyfriend and I noticed that he fell sick shortly after we got him. He had a cat cold, that we were not too concerned about as that is normal as long as it does not get out of control. What concerned us was his ear mites, and possible worms. He stopped being as playful; he seemed depressed despite the lack of change and stress our household provided him. We had scheduled an appointment twice with VCA Five Points Animal Hospital. The first, we had to cancel due to feeling unwell and not wanting to risk it. When we finally took him, the entire staff was friendly. We could not go in, but the vet called me and told me what was going on. She was absolutely wonderful and explained what they did, what we needed to do, and the medications they provided. We received an adorable little care package as well to welcome Dipstick into the vet! Overall, this place treated our cat how we would want him to be treated. read more

Front desk is generally nice and easy to schedule with but the veterinarians are not good at their jobs. Just recently stopped taking our two dogs after getting fed up with incompetent care and very little attention to detail on their appointments, leading to continued issues to one of our dogs allergies and one of our dogs leg injury. Our sister recently took her dog elsewhere after continued incorrect diagnoses on her lab for over a year, and has immediately seen positive results after one visit with a new vet. We just started taking our dogs elsewhere and the new location is a 180 over Five Points. The vets are knowledgeable, attentive and detailed. The techs are experienced. Would not recommend to anybody. read more

I know things are tough with staffing, but they do try. I had to wait a few days to get some response but at least the staff at the front desk do try to take care of you. We moved here a year ago and I cant remember having issues with our first dog. Since, we have gotten two more dogs. One dog from breeder in Edinburg from jason and heather McDowell (what a mistake) the dog was sickly and not a pure bred but anyway we went here three different times with Dr. James Shulz to get her better and nothing worked. I recently visited a family member whos dog had throat cancer and made the EXACT noise as our puppy did so Im skeptical. My biggest annoyance here is that every appointment ive been to I come in promptly on time and wait 30 minutes to an hour every time. Usually the room is empty and im just sitting waiting like its their lunch break. I wouldn't recommend this office they clearly have their hands full. I would not take my pet there. My lab blew out his knee at the end of December 2023. I took him there where they put him on Carprofen and told me he was overweight. a blood test should have been done before putting him on such drug. which it was not. I had to take him back on January 12th 2023 to see a vet who specialized in such circumstance. He walked in before even introducing himself told us he was fat and he had to lose 12 pounds. He needed to do extensive surgery so referred us to a vet hospital. January 19th when I came home from work at 10 pm he threw up brownish redish liquid. I took him to the vet emergency hospital. They preformed tests and found he had severe liver damage. I had to lay him to rest the following morning. He wasn't even 6 six years old. He would have celebrated his six birthday March 17th. I was heartbroken and still am. Do not take your animal here. When they were 5 points they were awesome. But since they are part of VCA they have gone way down hill. read more

LACK OF INTEGRITY On a Saturday evening my cat started acting strange (lethargic, hardly eating). Early Sunday morning I noticed her hind legs were wobbling when she walked into the room & stared at her bowl. My vet is closed on Sunday, so I searched online for open clinics. Five Points was the closest. Called that morning & described the symptoms IN DETAIL to the receptionist. She asked if I'd been there before (I had not) & said there were no regular appointments. She informed me of clinics farther away, but I wanted to minimize "car stress" for Ms Bushay. She offered an "Emergency Care Visit" for $105 plus any additional costs. I accepted, & she asked if I could be there by 10:30AM.. we arrived about 10:36AM. There were 2 people at the desk. When they were through, I filled out a form for new clients & took a seat in the waiting room with 2 other clients. It was clear from conversations that they were not emergency visits. It was FORTY minutes before Ms Bushay was called. The vet tech came in to gather more information, & about 10 minutes later the doctor came in. After a brief exam, he suggested blood work. After reading the results,he said, "We're going to treat this as an infection." He did not give her any antibiotic there, but prescribed $75 in prescriptions (antibiotic & potassium) with instructions for me to administer twice a day,12 hours apart. He said to call & schedule a revisit in about a week when the antibiotic was gone. NEVER ONCE did he indicate in any way that her condition was grave or life-threatening. While paying the $406 bill, I questioned the receptionist about the 40 minute wait for a $105 "EMERGENCY URGENT CARE VISIT." She said, "You agreed to it on the phone." ..Yes, I did ..because I assumed that "emergency care" meant prompt medical attention. She explained that it means they "fit you in." I didn't expect immediate attention, but a 40 minute wait is unreasonable. However, I paid in full using a credit card & left 12:45pm. At home, Ms Bushay got both meds at 1:15PM, and 12 hours later as instructed. She used the litter box once.. hardly moved after that. Kept watching.. 3:00AM she stopped responding. Her eyes were wide open, but she didn't respond, even when I held her. By 5:00AM she stopped breathing. Could hardly speak when I called that morning. The doctor did call back. He stood by his diagnosis which was based on high white blood cell count, low body temp, & weakness. I asked why the treatment (Clavamox & Renal-K) didn't help. He said she was old & may have had it a long time. But she was perfectly fine until that Saturday evening. Called my credit card company to dispute the EMERGENCY URGENT CARE charge. Payment was withheld by the credit card company while investigating the issue. They tried to come to a fair resolution with Five Points, but their attempts failed. Legally, they had no choice but to release full payment to the clinic because I did sign and authorize the transaction. To pursue it, I'd have to hire a lawyer. I asked for copies of the correspondence concerning the dispute. That's when I learned that the doctor & the receptionist sent letters containing outright lies! The receptionist said she was "surprised" when I walked in. ??? HOW could she be surprised when she offered a $105 "Emergency Care Visit" over the phone & asked if I could be there by 10:30AM?? She also wrote, "I received a call from a lady that said she had a cat on her porch that was just about dead." ..What??!!.. HOW would I know the name, exact age, gender & specific symptoms of an almost dead cat that I FOUND??! The doctor's letter states, "Recommended she get to a facility who could care for the animal." He NEVER said any such thing!! The medical records show the diagnosis & treatment prescribed... & also that he told me to schedule a revisit in a week. The record states, "Rev in a week" in his own handwriting! There's a serious lack of integrity here. I DO NOT appreciate being portrayed as a rude, self-centered person who would walk into a vet clinic expecting service without an appointment. Twice I attempted to speak to the owner of Five Points, leaving two messages with a receptionist. I wanted to respond to the letter he sent 6-27-17, but he never returned the calls. I mailed a letter to him at the clinic 7-17-17. Never got a response of any kind. His total disregard is rude & insensitive. Needless to say, I'd never recommend this place to anyone! People who lie to avoid accountability are untrustworthy, as well as those who do nothing about it. Also.. others I've spoken with are of the opinion that the sudden onset of my cat's symptoms (at 17 yrs old) was an indication of stroke as opposed to infection. White blood cell count is commonly high following a stroke as well as with infection.. & her body temp of 99.6° was no issue. (Normal range 100-102°) The doctor at 5 Points never considered the possibility of stroke. read more

Took my dog in for a follow up visit at Five points vet and was left to believe there would be no charge. But we were wrong in thinking that. We were charged more than to get a follow up visit from my eye doctor. It took longer to pay the bill than it took the doctor to check out my pet. It's no wonder that the animal shelters are full, people can't afford the veterinary bills. read more

I recently went here with my dog, paid my bill and left without checking invoice due to confusion in the office. when I got home, I discovered the facility overcharged me by $80! They added a service I did not receive - I went back to the office to get my overpayment back - they said I could either credit it to my 'account' or get a refund check from corporate in LA - !! LA!! I reminded them that my check was same as cash and I wanted my money now - I will never go back to this place again - I will use local facilities with no 'corporate out-of-state' office! What these people don't get is that customer service is prime in today's world - not only did they not immediately rectify the situation, they offered no compensation for their having made a very bad mistake - they are ignorant to the business world of 2019!! Customer Service does not live in this facility!!!!! Go elsewhere! Local!!! Just saw this loser facility's answer to my review - if they spent as much time offering outstanding Customer Service as they do with their insipid responses, perhaps, just perhaps, they might have a chance at the gold ring - STAY AWAY and CHECK your invoice CAREFULLY before you leave this pathetic facility where customer service does not live!!! These people need lots of training!!! The staff at this Animal Hospital are truly amazing and compassionate people. Last night, we had to unexpectedly put our beloved dog down. I made the phone call to their office and the front staff helped me out with compassion. The techs had to help us get him out of our vehicle and they did so with so much grace and were very careful with him. They made our dog, and us, feel very comfortable and while we were there. The Medical Director performed the procedure and walked us through every step and told us exactly what to expect. Even though this happened later in the evening, they took their time and did not rush us out. I cannot recommend the staff and doctors enough here. PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT!!!!!!! DO NOT take your pets to Five Points Veterinary Clinic in Hopewell!!! They gave Carmel the wrongs shots!!!! When I got home and looked at the receipt and called them it took them to transferring me to 4 different people before someone could tell me what they really gave him, because no one knew and I don't think they still know. He has been getting a Steroid Shot and a B12 shot for his severe arthritis and they gave him a booster of something else instead. They are now telling me he has to wait for 7-10 days before they can give him what he really should have gotten. I don't think he can wait that long. When I told her (her name was Melissa) on the phone that if I wouldn't have caught their mistake I would have thought the shots were no longer working for him and would have probably put him down she laughed at me. SHE LAUGHED at me. When I rose my voice at her.....no I screamed at her. She hung up on me. My husband called back and talked to an actual vet he said "everyone makes mistakes" WHAT!!!!! I am livid. I will be retrieving our records and taking our animals somewhere else. read more

The front desk staff is always very pleasant when we arrive, and the veterinary staff are wonderful as well! I have a number of animals and have been in the process of switching them over to Five Points from our previous vet because they are fabulous when it comes to availability and very knowledgeable. I have found the fact that they have multiple vets there to be a wonderful thing because they will consult with one another when they have a question. I could not be more pleased and am happy that I have made our veterinary practice of choice. One of our cats is not the friendliest and the vert tech and the vet did not shy from her and seemed to make her as comfortable as possible. I have been a client at Five Points Vet for about 12 years. Always in the past I highly recommended them to all my friends. Now I tell them do not go there. The office staff, except Anna, are all cavalier, give incorrect information, gave me the wrong bill (which I paid), and don't keep accurate records. Dr. Bell, the owner, just months ago gave my dog an incorrect diagnosis that was a terminal diagnosis. I had taken my dog in two weeks in a row and all he did was feel his hips at the first visit and said his hips were bad and then the next week did the same thing and gave him the terminal diagnosis of degenerative myelopathy (canine Lou Gherig's Disease). I could have had him put to sleep because of this knowing that I would not have been able to handle the 80 lb weight of him as he deteriorated. Dr Bell never offered me any x-rays or other testing that they say the dogs need before giving this diagnosis. After researching Dr. Bell's diagnosis online I took him for a second opinion and he was diagnosed with arthritis after having x-rays taken to rule out any other problem. He has taken glucosamine for the last several months and he is fine. Today I called them to get my cats records faxed to the kennel to prove her vaccinations and they said she had not had her rabies shot since Aug 2014. Recently, after I had been away for an extended amount of time, I had called them and asked when she was due to be seen again since she is on two medications and needs to have blood work done periodically. They told me I did not need to bring her in until Oct. 2016. Today when I called for the fax and told them what they had told me about Oct they stated "none of my pets needed to come in in Oct." Very uncaring about their errors. read more

The absolute worst, will never use these people again. Wonder about there hiring process 2 vets both incompetent. One was so bad that the owner told us to make sure we did not give our dog any of the medicines prescribed by his associate. Then refused to take the medicine back. The owner then took over care and repeated many times how concerned he was about our dog. Ask me to call him on Wednesday and 6 days later still has not returned the call. Must have been real worried. What a joke!! We took our older dog in for his annual physical and shots...the vet did not check him at all I had to ask if he would check his ears, teeth and heart. Our vet in Florida informed me this winter he had a fairly serious heart murmur. I mentioned this to the vet at Five Points, he looked through the records and said oh yes we knew he had a heart murmur years ago. I told him I was never informed about it and he replied they don't always mention it if it's not serious. Hope we will find our beloved pets a caring veterinarian. read more

Dr. Oldenhoff is absolutely the best vet my pets have ever had care for them. She shows that she cares about them and does a great job answering questions and thoroughly explaining things. When my pet was receiving care from a specialist she would follow his care and call and check in on him. My Cairen Terrier "Neka" was recently taken to this Vet by my father because, she was not feeling well. The Vet never did any blood work and made a diagnosis saying that Neka would need 3 to 5 teeth extracted. The vet gave my father antibiotics for the dog and told him to bring her back in 10 days. Neka started to throw up everything she drank or ate. My father took her back and they gave her a shot to settle her stomach. The vet still did no blood work. My father had to take Neka to the emergency vet last night and determined that Neka is diabetic and in renal distress as well as being anemic. I would personally like to know how do you make a diagnosis without a thorough examination. My dog does not have any dental issue that would require teeth extraction or infection. It appears this clinic needs more training. I pray that my lil dog pulls through this oredeal. Please take yourpet elsewhere. read more

Unprofessional, rude, argumentative when questioned & inefficient ... I originally chose this vet because of the convenience of the location in the case of an emergency but whenever one of my pets required emergency care, I have had to beg them to see them - even once when it was obvious they were very near death with zero time to spare! Most recently, I was charged $97 to bring my pet in during regular business hours because I didn't have an appointment scheduled in advance for the emergency care...my pets really should learn to inform me in advance that they're going to injure themselves. Not having an appointment is automatically charged at an ER rate of $97 just to walk through the door. The vet never introduced himself, was obviously quite perturbed because my dog dared to need treatment during his dinner hour. He provided zero follow up instructions. I had to ask the girls at the desk to ask him all the questions that he never even gave me the opportunity to ask. After we arrived with my dog's carpal pad almost completely ripped off & bleeding profusely, the vet came in the waiting room with his mouth full of food & took my dog in the back for about 10 minutes after which time, he returned with him, handed me a prescription, scowled & walked away telling me to fill the rx at Giant Eagle because it's cheaper there & that if his toes looked swollen in an hour for ME to replace the bandage he'd put on because swelling was indicative that he'd bandaged it too tight & it was cutting off circulation. The stitches & bandage cost another $70 & actually, the CVS across the street after a 30 second Good RX search, I found was, in reality, $3 less than Giant Eagle. I stood there waiting... thinking he'd be coming right back to discuss wound care, prognosis, follow up care etc... Apparently, he was more concerned with his dinner getting cold than to talk to me because he never did resurface. Unfortunately, as I was finally told, by the girls at the desk, in 2 days, I was to remove the bandage & when I did, I found that the stitches were out. How do stitches completely wrapped in a tight bandage just fall out that quickly? My guess is because they were done in a rush & with no concern for them actually closing the wound. I've been repeatedly charged a premium price for less than adequate or no treatment at all. The pets I have brought to 5 Points have either died during the course of treatment, had to be taken to PVSEC because 5 Points weren't available to care for them or after getting 2nd & 3rd opinions for a more effective treatment, they still felt doing nothing was optimal yet insisting on seeing him once a week indefinitely to check the healing progress or lack thereof. Doing nothing was more expensive at 5 Points than proactive cold laser treatment to speed up the healing process at another vet. I was wasting my time & $ to bring my pet back every week indefinitely @ $37 or $23 per visit ... just to look (not even rebandage it). The $37 was the charge to confirm that the stitches were no longer intact & to re-bandage the wound with instructions that IF the bandage gets wet or dirty to remove it immediately to avoid infection. The $23 was for "looking." The bandage obviously got wet just getting him from the vet into the vehicle as there was snow on the ground & more coming down while we were there. Yet, today, I was told the antibiotics he'd continue taking indefinitely would prevent an infection if the wound was subjected to mud/feces, slush or chemicals used to treat the roads etc. completely contradicting the reason I was originally given for removing the wet or soiled bandage, immediately. This is the only doctor to ever have the nerve to charge me for non treatment or confirmation that their treatment had, indeed, failed. I literally provided more treatment, myself, at home! We have been taking our pets to Five Points Vet Clinic in Hopewell, PA for the last 15 years more because it is close to home than for the customer service. I would rate the business poor to average. Lots of staff changes over the years with doctors coming and going. There are a few staff members like Dr. Boswell who are great to deal with but some others not so much...Ive been present at times when customers have complained. Another staff member who seems to not want to work with customers is the Practice Manager Kristen Geary. Anytime I had to deal with her, she has been very rude and short as if she doesn't care to resolve problems and keep my business at FPVC. I have never received any questionnaire rating their business or practices. The prices for vet tech services are expensive. I took my 2 dogs to have a nail cut and an anal gland cleaning. The bill was $64.00! A nail cut is $14.00 per dog and anal cleaning is $18.00 per dog. After the fact I called around locally for prices thinking that is the going rate...Nope! Moon Vet wanted $10.00 and Grooming Depot and Pawfect wanted as little as $5.00. Think it's time to find a new vet clinic! read more
