We found out that VCA works for a corporate company and they are charging people outrageous amounts. We like Anna the vet but we could not go there anymore with their outrageous charges. We had to leave and go elsewhere. Miss Heather their financial person was the rudest person ever when my little chihuahua was about on her deathbed with lime disease, we didn't have the money and she said in so many words oh well. I said so I guess I just let my dog die and she said yup. Very inconsiderate bit$h. We are very happy that we left and love our new vets. read more

Our experience at this clinic was not just disappointing--it was deeply concerning. We brought in our rescue dog, Novie, who is a loving, sensitive dog that gets a bit nervous around new people. During the visit, she barked briefly when I walked into the room--she wasn't being aggressive, just scared and trying to stay close to someone she trusts. Instead of helping us work through that in a compassionate or informed way, the staff took her into the back without our permission. We weren't asked or even told what would happen. We later found out they restrained her without us there, and when we asked why, we were told it was because they believed she would "act less tough" if we weren't around to "back her up." That's not how fear works. She wasn't being dominant or defiant--she was scared, and they made it worse by removing her from the one person she trusts. Without discussing it with us, they also filled a prescription for Trazodone, a strong sedative and anti-anxiety medication. Then, they recommended putting her on Gabapentin too--essentially setting up a full sedation protocol before her next visit. This was never a conversation. It was presented as if it was just the next step--no consent, no alternatives, no behavioral support options. They also pushed a full obedience training program before she should be brought back--again, making it clear they weren't interested in working with her as she is, only in changing or drugging her into submission. To make matters worse, they offer an in-house monthly insurance plan, and the way they push repeat visits, medications, and training strongly suggests a financial motive. It feels like they're creating problems to upsell services and drive patients toward their membership program. We left feeling heartbroken for our dog and betrayed by people we trusted to care for her. We will never return. If you care about trauma-informed care, consent, and actual compassion for your pet, please think twice before bringing them here. Your dog deserves to be treated like family--not a checklist for upsells and prescriptions. read more

I am beyond happy with this clinic. Our new kitten woke us up Friday morning with some not okay behavior. He was yowling, runnimg nomstop with no balance causing him to fall and run into things, eyes forcing opposing directions, rapid heart beat, fever of 106, muscle spasms, and other strange behavior. With the Covid-19 precautions i found it difficult to find a vet that would accept a new patient. Finally, after 6 other places refused us, VCA animal hospital in Brattleboro set an appt for us to come in immediately. They had us park in the lot and came out to get him. The exam was quick and thorough with not good news. He was neurological and they weren't sure why but told us there was a 20% chance he'd make it. Out of the several possibilities, only one was treatable. Not wanting to just put our baby down, i sprung for the treatment and gave them permission to put hin down if he didnt respond to treatment and continued suffering. I was relieved to hear that the exam, overnight stay, and medication all in total was very inexpensive. We got a call the very next morning that he responded to treatment and was good to come home. He's back to his happy cuddly self and home with his people Not only did they get us in promptly and fix our boy, but they sent us home a care package with alot of great things in it including a full size bag of kitten food, a sample flea, tick, parasite treatment, lazer pointer, travel water and food dish, magnet, mouse toy, hand sanitizer, and of course informational pamphlets. I will be making them our primary vet and reccomend anyone and everyone to go to them if they are in need of animal care. The staff is friendly, honest, and thorough. Thank you staff of VCA Brattleboro for saving Juice! ** he contracted toxoplasmosis from sharing a litter box with our other two cats. He had not yet had his vaccs because we just got him. Well. They definitely made good. Essentially, someone upstairs is watching. Within a couple of hours of my yelp review, I received a call from the head of the clinic with a polite message (I didn't answer) looking to find a remedy and to talk through the situation. I didn't return the call, not because I was miffed or anything, it's just that I don't generally care for after-the-fact apologetics and was just moving down the list of groomers in the area, that being all that i was really interested in. The next day, some fine fellow from higher still in the org-chain rang my cell. I didn't recognize the number and picked it up by mistake. But since I had him on the line I talked through the whole thing and my perception of the ordeal. Anyway, at the end of it, he made me an offer I didn't see the need to refuse and covered everything. Rabies vax, exam and grooming. No charge. This is of course, way more than the incident warranted but who am I to refuse that level of decency. We scheduled it on the spot and the services were performed admirably upon my third visit. The staff was polite and accommodating and frankly, I felt sorry for them being in put in that situation. I would like to be clear that I didn't ask for a thing here. I didn't complain or rant or bitch. So please, if you have a bad experience don't be a squeaky wheel and try and take advantage of this business or any other, it just makes you a brat. They came forward of their own volition, knowing that I was displeased and made it right, and did so beyond expectation. For that I thank them. The groomer is a total sweetheart as well by the way, and while I wasn't blown away by the performance, it was adequate. I still don't like the whole VCA management concept from what I've seen and just can't recommend them overall. To have 680 locations with seemingly no rubric as to how they are staffed, maintained and operated is ludicrous. Pay your front desk and your techs something beyond minimum wage and you'll have better reviews all day long. Or just focus on the stock price and use that as your benchmark as you have been. From a business POV you're doing great, from your customers? Severely lacking. read more

I am incredibly grateful for the professionalism and care the entire team at the VCA Windham have shown working with my dog, who has had some health issues. Every time I call, I am greeted with a compassionate, prompt and thoughtful response. In person even with COVID protocols in place and stretched thin, the two vets and their staff are patient, thoroughly explain their thinking and share their advice and suggestions. The VCA in Brattleboro, VT is the best! I had the same vet for 36 years, but they got too busy. On my rare occasions when I needed emergency care, I had to wait quite awhile. VCA got me right in immediately on the two times that was needed. I had my pets records transferred to them, and they are my new clinic now! Things I like about them: 1) They let me bring my cat in immediately when she needed help fast! 2) The vets and the staff appear to be animal lovers, and seem to love their jobs! Always friendly and happy! I love that!!! 3) It's very neat and clean. 4) There fees are on par with any of the other clinics. 5) They are very knowledgeable, and it gives you confidence in them. 6) They are open ALOT of hours! 10 to 11 hours on weekdays, and 6 hours on Sat., and even on Sunday! 7) When I asked them if they were taking new patients, they welcomed me, and all I had to do was tell them where my pets records were, and they did the transfer themselves! It was a super easy switch for me! So, if you're looking for a new clinic, I strongly suggest VCA in Brattleboro!! They're the best! read more

My cat came to Vermont last year to live with my partner while I was finishing a year of residency in Boston to complete internship requirements for my graduate program. I was anxious about leaving behind a wonderful vet my anxious (and slightly neurotic) little one had loved. Last fall, she suddenly stopped eating and it was clear her mouth was in a lot of pain. Enter: VCA Windham Animal Hospital. Partially because they took the credit program we use to help finance her care, we decided to give them a try. The took great care of Daisy and alleviated many of my fears. She had to undergo a sedated exam, and treatment and was well-cared for throughout. They were also willing to work with us on payment, even with the credit program. The assistants and front desk staff were wonderful! I wasn't however thrilled with the vet that we saw and later spoke to on the phone during the spring. She was clearly knowledgable and competent, but seemed removed and not emotionally invested in Daisy's care. She also seemed reluctant to give us detailed information (it took many questions to get even general answers). When Daisy's recurring mouth inflammation issue flared up again over the weekend, we took her back in to be seen today. We were pleasantly surprised to meet Dr. McCutcheon. She was warm, friendly, and very engaging. She talked openly and frankly about both the positives and her concerns about Daisy and her care. We felt immediately comfortable with her, and it was clear Daisy did too (despite being in a lot of pain). Major props to Amy (one of the vet techs) as well. She got my very anxious little one to calm down almost right away, even to the point of cutting her nails. Historically, we've had to do that when she's been sedated. Dr. M talked us through everything she was doing, and thinking including coming in for a follow-up next week and what may need to happen. Further research revealed that the vet we were uncomfortable with is no longer with the practice. Dr. M is in on Tuesdays, and we'll be doing our best to stick with her for a while. The facility is small, but homey and pretty clean. It's not super "high tech", but we've never had any complaints. Also VCA clinics have access to a lot of resources and information that smaller animal hospitals sometimes do not. Overall, VCA Windham is a great little place and it's clear they have a lot of love for their animals. read more

Fair Warning: I have never had my dogs cared for here, only because I have an established relationship that I am happy with. However, I am writing this because one time I popped in here to drop off something and noticed that VCA had a huge bulletin board warning people of the dangers of leaving a dog in a hot car. They had Vermont laws, resources on the subject, and colorful signs to draw the public to the bulletin board to read the materials. You just can't ask for more committment to animal well-being and safety than all the work they went to to create this educational bulletin board. Don't NOT take your pets because you think it will be too expensive. These kind people will work with you. My apt with both cats today was with a certain and cared for feeling. You will feel taken care of and listened to. Our problems were solved as quickly as possible and I feel so much better having gone than not. If you care for your pets, they will know you do and mirror your needs for them to show you that they do too. Happy vets mean happy pet owners and therefore happy pets. :) read more

I have been bringing my dog to this clinic for 7 years (since he was 8 weeks old). While the service has not been necessarily stellar, its always been adequate. I based my decision to bring my dog here due to the discounted vaccines on Wed/Thurs and stayed because we've been relatively well taken care of. In the last few years or so I have become more and more dissatisfied due to the fact that they don't seem to be able to keep a Vet for more than a year, give or take. I like to know who my dog is going to be seen by and to know that they are familiar with him beyond reading his records. The front desk staff used to be recognizable and did know who Riley was and would greet us coming in but now they are constantly changing too. The only constant is the groomer who is just so nice and does a fantastic job. The breaking point(s) were that this past winter my dog somehow got into a neighbor's supply of marijuana causing him to become very sick and disoriented. I though my dog had been hit by a vehicle, never imagining that he could have gotten into something like that. When I called VCA they told me they could get me into an appointment in two hours knowing I suspected he'd been hit (since he wasn't really able to walk). I scheduled the appointment wanting to go to a normal clinic instead of the emergency vets 45 mins away. I didn't want to wait and brought him in immediately and they did accommodate me as best they could and looked at him about 20 mins from me arriving at the clinic. The vet on duty said she wasn't positive if he was hit by a vehicle but that he possibly drank anti-freeze and sent me on my way to the e-vet. They didn't charge me for the visit which was wonderful of them but the e-vet did express concern that they didn't recognize the symptoms of marijuana ingestion as a possibility. Today is what really sent me to another vet. My dog developed a severe hot spot on his face over the weekend while we were 2.5 hours from home. I scheduled an appointment online for Tuesday but really wanted my dog looked today (Monday). I called Sunday afternoon (and the site says they are open 5-6pm on Sundays) and left a message. I also called at 9am this morning to leave a message looking to get into today. Not only does the phone number that rings not get answered during business hours but it doesn't even tell you if you've reached VCA. It just asked you to press 0 or wait for assistance and then sends you directly to a general mailbox. So because I couldn't get in touch with anyone and hadn't heard back by 11am I called another vet that friend works for (and who also expressed disbelief about the whole misdiagnose this winter) and the phone was immediately answer and an appointment scheduled for this afternoon. I did eventually hear from VCA at noon saying they could get me in "later tonight". They do an ok if you can schedule appointments out, but anything immediate is tough for them to accommodated I'll be going back for the grooming but at this point if I like the new vet I'll be sticking with them because they intentionally leave appointments open every day in order to accommodate animals with immediate health concerns. read more

My spouse and I were on a camping trip in a nearby town in New Hampshire and we decided to take one of our three dogs with us, but because we like to kayak and bike, we decided to use VCA Wyndham. They were informative professional and very friendly when we first called to gather information and to find out about pricing and what vaccinations were needed. They were also very friendly patient and accommodating with us throughout the time that our dog William stayed there. We actually were running late the day we needed to drop him off, but the staff there was very friendly about it. When we picked Will up a day early they were also very flexible and accommodating. He was in great shape and it seemed to have been treated quite well. We had forgotten to notify the staff that we had left behind William's probiotic powder and several days later received a call telling us that they were going to mail us the powder that we had forgotten to pick up. All in all, I would say they were very professional, friendly, and super easy to work with. They took good care of our dog and it really helped us enjoy our camping trip knowing he was in good hands. We used this Vet clinic in the past but stopped do to a serious misdiagnosis that was made on our dogs life threatening heart murmur. VCA Windham Amimal Hosp told us the heart murmur was minor and needed no treatment. Because our dog was so ill we took him to another animal hospital for a second opinion. The Vets at the other practice listened and said it was very advanced heart disease and he would have died without treatment. Recently we have been getting daily calls from this practice on my cell phone and asking them to stop calling because they have the wrong number. When Amy called again today I told her, once again, that they had the wrong number and to stop calling. Amy became aggressive and hung up on me. I called back and asked to speak to her supervisor and she said I would have to call the "Marketing manager in Ca". I told her I wanted to speak to her supervisor in the office and after being put on hold for an extended amount of time a woman named Ashley came on the phone. Unfortunately for Ashley I was very angry at this point because of the way Amy had treated me and she took the brunt of my anger. I was made to feel that she was defending the employee instead of apologizing to me for the way I had been treated (Amy swearing at me and hanging up on me). My husband and I both own local businesses and have even won the "Best of Brattleboro" award for our business. We understand how important customer service is, unfortunately this Vet clinic does not. read more
