I had an awful experience at this place...to the point that I hate stopping at the traffic light where it is located. My friend called ahead to them know that my cat was near the end and that I wanted her euthanized. We were told that they would place us in a room (NOT a treatment room) When I arrived, they took her to the treatment area instead of into a room and I was super confused. They freaked when they saw her...it was like one of those frantic scenes on those medical dramas when multiple people run to the gurney. My friend was like "hello, she is here to be euthanized and they apologized. They sat me in a cold exam room and they brought my sweet Tatiana to me wrapped in a towel. The second they placed her in my arms, pinkish liquid started coming our of her nose and mouth. I freaked out an fortunately my friend, who is a hospice nurse, was with me and held as the trainee fumbled around with trying to find a vein for the final shot. Her veins had collapsed so my literally had to tell her where to place the needle. All of a sudden I heard this gushing sound and screamed "what was that??" Fortunately my friend warned me not to look. There was so much liquid released that she had to borrow scrubs and her sweater was ruined. It was absolutely traumatizing. When I left the treatment area they asked me if I wanted to take home the carrier. I don't know exactly what I said but it wasn't nice. Nobody told me what the hell was going on. I had been there only 4 weeks earlier and was simply told "you have a very sick kitty." And then, when I trusted them to help us through her final moments, they failed. I called a few days letter and cried as I explained what happened. The woman (manager?) was not very empathetic and made excuses for what happened but at least she refunded me the cost. I wish that I had the positive experience that others who have reviewed this had. The image of her sick, skinny little body wrapped in a towel with that stuff coming out of her nose and mouth is forever etched in my brain. I am working hard to replace that memory with a happy one but it is really hard. This should never happen to any pet mom again. read more

I had to bring my sweet girl Darla to veg for CHF on December 23rd. I had to make the heartbreaking decision to let her go on the 24th. The staff at VEG especially Dr Ritz, Brittany and Sarah made our time with them special. They were loving, caring and compassionate. I stayed with Darla the whole time and when they knew I needed rest after being up for 20 hours, they made a bed for me close by. Told me my cat has cancer. Did my own research, there's literally one thing on her chart that signifies a very low risk of cancer. Wanted $4000 for a biopsy, took her home and shes perfectly fine and eating and drinking, playing, nothing abnormal, enjoys being picked up, not hiding. It cost $1,600 for testing and Antibiotics which is ridiculous because other places charge way less. Please don't come here, I also consulted another vet and we came to the conclusion she definitely doesn't have cancer. At the stroke of midnight my sweet Maureen kitty had been crying all evening. Though VEG was an hour away I had to go . I preregistered on line making the process easier. Being handicapped myself , the staff helped me get Maureen in to the hospital. Though she had to be euthanized the Dr and staff were compassionate and caring. It made my bad day a bit better. We went in for an emergency around midnight last week. They saw my cat right away and immediately started treating him. The doctors and nurses care about these animals. They do not ask for money upfront. They try to work with you regarding finances. We stayed about 10 hours before having to leave our pet there but it was necessary. They gave us a room because we were now awake over 24 hours. The compassion these people have is out of this world. Dr. Binder & Dr. Ritz were outstanding. Amazing doctors and amazing humans. Nothing happens to your pets unless it's at night, on a holiday or weekend. Our young dog was sick with vomiting and diarrhea for almost two days, and getting progressively worse. A call to her primary care at 2:00 in the afternoon on a Saturday resulted in a recommendation to take her to an urgent care facility. Veg ER was the answer for us. They were quick, efficient, kind and thorough in their examination and treatment. I had to bring my 15 year old dachshund here for euthanasia. He was very sick and I couldn't stand to see him suffer any longer. We walked right in and we were immediately brought back to a private room. It was more of a home-like setting, with two couches, candles, and tissues, which I appreciated. There were also dog treats, and Hershey kisses on the counter. :( Unfortunately my dog had stopped eating a few days prior to this, so he wasn't able to enjoy a chocolate kiss before going to heaven. He was very anxious and barking, so he was given a sedative to calm him down prior to the procedure. We waited 10-15 minutes for the sedative to take effect, and he continued to be anxious and bark. He had to be given a second dose which it seemed like we waited forever to be brought in by the nurse. I thought we would be in and out for this procedure, but because the first sedative was ineffective, we were there much longer than I anticipated which I didn't like. I just wanted to end his suffering and it seems like this was dragged out way longer than it should have been. I am very grateful for the VEG team. I brought my precious 8 year old Pittie here, after 5:00 pm. She had Lymphoma and was having breathing distress. I've never been here before and I certainly will never go back. First, they muzzled her while other dogs weren't wearing a muzzle. She was having trouble breathing. Then when it was time for the awful end, the woman doctor didn't suggest for my girl to lie down instead she injected her while she was sitting up and fell like a ton of bricks. Then when the assistant came to carry her away, he picked her up so roughly and one of her legs were sticking out at an awkward angle. I've never witnessed such uncaring behavior before by so-called animal caretakers. I do not recommend VEG in Shrewsbury. read more

We had to take our cat Archie in for a urinary blockage recently. From the moment we arrived to when we picked him up, everyone was very nice and calm. It wasn't super busy when we brought Archie in, so he got triaged immediately due to the severity of a blockage. While I went to pay the quote, they got his medication ready and asked if they could give him pain meds immediately after I paid to get him more comfortable. They told us we could stay with him as long as we wanted to after the pain meds. I was appreciative of how worried they were about his pain and discomfort. Even during the phone calls for updates, they were thorough with explanations and more than happy to answer my questions. He was so scared being there, but I felt comfortable knowing he was in good hands. Archie is home safe and recovering thanks to the team at VEG. read more

On December 20, 2024 my yorkie was attacked by another dog and had multiple wounds around her neck. My vet told me I needed to go to emergency hospital. I drove an hour not knowing the type of care she would get. I can not say enough about this hospital. From the moment I walked in the staff was amazing. Each client gets a doctor and my doctors and the nurses were amazing. They explained everything to me and allowed me to watch the care they gave her. Our cat, Sam was 20 years old. He was a rescue cat and the best cat I have ever owned. He was more like a puppy! He had not been feeling well for the past couple of weeks. His cries were very low and loud. He would eat and then he wouldn't eat. For 2 days he was walking into furniture, getting stuck behind the couch and hiding wherever he could. I knew he was sick and had to be put down, but we wanted to selfishly keep him with us. Finally at 4 AM, my partner woke me up to let me know we had to do something. Not ever having to euthanize an animal, I didn't know where to start. I called the emergency clinic in Shrewsbury, MA and they told us to come in with him and we did. We got to stay with him the whole time and they were sincerely empathetic, kind and understood our sadness. I would highly recommend this emergency visit for any of your animals. Dr. Wagner is a sweetheart. She thought he may have had a stroke (by looking at his pupils) and he could have had dementia, which I believe he did. They are always open, so it doesn't matter when you need them. They are there. read more

I had to take my puppy Greta to VEG after she destroyed my tv remote and the batteries were missing... I was incredibly unsure whether or not she ate them, and of course was panicking hardcore. We rushed to VEG, and they got us checked in very fast. They came and took Greta's vitals, and I spoke with the vet very shortly after we arrived. They did x-rays on Greta's tummy, and found NO BATTERIES anywhere in her system (thank God!!!). I am so thankful for the amount of compassion, kindness and support that Greta and myself were shown while we were at VEG. Staff was exceptional. It was comforting that you are with your pet at all times and can see what is going on. Suggestion to transport to Tufts was made by the Vet for further services which they did not have. The Vet was prompt and she sent all records to Tufts immediately via email so Tufts was waiting. Even though Cheyenne did not make it and crossed to the Rainbow Bridge at Tufts after many hours of care and tests. She passed Tuesday PM . I brought my dog here to be neutered. It felt really impersonal. You do not speak to anyone when setting up appointment. You can not address concerns. Drop off at 9 was group drop off with all dogs being spayed or neutered. It took 40 minutes to drop my very anxious pup off. The woman behind the counter was unfriendly and curt. Direction for after care were left to the video you were required to watch and the transcripts of it that you read. I called during the day to check how procedure went, something they said we could do. But, when I called they said there was no way to talk to surgical team but "No news is good news". This was not at all reassuring. Pickup at 4 was also a group pickup. We all waited outside the door in a line. There was a sign that if we were 10 minutes late we would occur a late fee. We waited 25 minutes to collect our dog and exit past the line. We were told that his pain med was given for the day. However, when we arrived home there were 3 meds in his bag. The only care sheet was an invoice. He was not shaved for the procedure either which I thought odd and unclean. The day after surgery. No call. A text came giving two choices;" I have a question" or " I do not have a question". I do not have knowledge of their regular Veterinary services. But, I was very unimpressed with their process. read more

My first experience at VEG was for my elderly dog who had taken a sudden change in health after some prior health issues. It was a sunday evening and she was having much difficulty breathing. I knew going that her quality of life had changed, and she was in pain. The caring and compassion shown to both Badger and myself was beyond explanation. After taking my diabetic dog to VCA Northboro for severe dehydration was informed that he would need emergency IV insulin service that they could not perform there. Had my wife call VEG to speak with a Veterinarian there who claimed they could perform the service and would require hospitalization for @ 2 days unless our dog would need to be seen by an Internist which they didn't have. She quoted my wife the cost would be $2000 - $4000. I drove our sick dog there. After drawing blood and installing IV Stents the Vet approached me to tell me that our dog needed the insulin IVs and would need to be hospitalized for at least 2 days and the cost would be @ $10,000. And, if he needed to be seen by an Internist it would be MORE $. What a group of pathetic predators! I informed the VET that she was a Sleazy Predator who should be selling used cars. Took our dog to Tufts and dealt with an incredibly caring staff which included constant Intern care during his 3 day stay. Our entire bill was $3,600 and our dog is now home and healthy! I can't say enough good about Tufts! Looking for a Skull & Cross Bones emoji! If you love your pet as we do, avoid this outfit at all costs. Went to Shrewsbury, MA location with my Frenchie last week under emergency and the staff was not compassionate at all with my fur baby and NEVER even checked vitals leaving her dis-charged with a misdiagnosis, by MISSING a life threating HEART FAILURE that Tufts was able to diagnose in 5 min from walking in the door after taking my pup home un-safe after VEG's evaluation less than 24 hrs prior. ALL this place did was stress me and my pup and rack up a $1300 bill I was sent away with a life-threatening situation. Unfortunately, we had to go there for the worst reason. We got there and were taken to the room almost immediately. The techs and the vet appeared within minutes.They took our requests and payment in the room so we didn't have to deal with all that in the lobby. The assistants and vet were kind and professional and we were allowed to sit on the floor and offered time to stay and grieve after our sweet boy had passed away. The room also had a private exit so we didn't have to walk through the lobby afterward. While I never want anyone to have to be in our position, the crappy reality of why we were there was made a lot easier in that moment. Thank you. read more

I took my dog Brady to V.E.G in Shrewsbury, MA on Saturday 2/11/23. I cannot thank the nurses and doctors enough for taking such good care of him. We were transferred to a larger ER with specialty the next day where we unfortunately received devastating news and had to say goodbye to our sweet boy. Truly the worst day. But because of the way V.E.G is set up, we got to have our own room with him while we held him and comforted him the entire night. If that had not been an option, we wouldn't have gotten to cuddle our sweet boy one last time. This was so crucial for us and meant so much. It is also helpful during our grieving process. I would go to Tuffs for an emergency with your dog. At VEG, they told me to put my dog down. When I went to my Vet to do that, she told me to leave my dog with her for 6hrs and she what she could do. My is dog is perfectly happy and healthy now and I can't believe according to VEG, I was supposed to put her down. It's just a money making business. read more

My sweet boy Tater Tot was hit by a car the day before Thanksgiving. I saw it happen and I was in so much shock I could hardly breathe. My daughter rushed Taters and me to VEG Shrewsbury where I was met with urgency for Taters and human care for me. Tater was barely alive when we arrived. They immediately tended to him but also clarified with me to what level of care I wanted. They were clear that he was in bad shape. Without question, I told them to do whatever they needed to do to save his life. The intensity toward saving his life was amazing. The doctor answered my questions clearly and compassionately while never stopping his work on Tater. After Tater coded, they did two rounds of CPR with no change, but were on their way to a third, however, I let the doctor know he could let Taters go. Thru the entire experience, which was intensely traumatic, the staff tended to me as if I was a patient too. They were attentive to me and never left me to sit alone. One assistant calmly cleaned the feces off of my pant leg and after Tater passed she offered me clean clothes as I was covered in blood, which I hadn't even realized. They set me and my family up, who had gathered at the clinic along with my other dogs, in a private room and let us grieve for as long as we needed but checked on us regularly to see if we needed anything. Although all this care was not cheap, it was beyond reasonable for the amount of care they provided. They also clarified how I wanted to proceed with several options, I asked for cremation and an urn and Taters was returned to me in less than a week. I ask people bringing their sick or injured pet to give the emergency staff grace when treating their pet. I have read comments from people that say emergency pet centers are greedy and take advantage of people in their time of need. I cannot disagree more. Vets and vet techs did not go to years of schooling to become scam artists and emergency centers need the latest in technology above and beyond that of the family vet and that comes with a price to the clinic. As per owners, we need to understand our responsibilities which include the costs and make decisions accordingly and let the vets do their thing to the best of their abilities.
