Recently our kitten experienced a terrible fall while being rescued from a tree he was chased up…read moreby a neighbour's dog. The kitten fell and sustained several fractures. We took him to Cottonwood vet and while they were friendly and helpful at first that all changed once they took control of our cat. They used scare tactics and my fragile emotional state to get me to sign things that were not clearly explained to me. To diagnose his injuries cost $1200.00 !!! Then they sent us home with a cast on his leg and no cone !! He got the cast off in just under 2 hours after we got him home. The next day they charged $500.00 in addition to the $1200.00 to reapply the cast and this time they did remember to put on a cone because I asked for one !! Financial gain is their highest priority and they are helpful and kind only to get people in their door. They also quote different prices whenever they like. When I asked for cat deworming medication they charged me $30 per dose. But while I was in the waiting room I over heard another person quoted $15 for the same deworming medication !! They take advantage of people who look like they might have money and who are in fragile emotional distress !! I'm an older pensioner who dresses well when I go out in public but in reality I'm always low on finances and on a very low fixed monthly income. This experience was made so much worse by their uncaring attitude once the papers were signed and money was paid they became "cunning and hard hearted". I will never go back there and will share my horror story about Cottonwood Vet to anyone who asks !!

My google review…read more Word of CAUTION .. your pets deserve better! Originally I gave this business a 5 star rating based on the fact that we were taking our dog in for non invasive services such as nail trims and picking up his food and insulin over the last couple years. Our dog needed a glucose curve test done once a year to ensure it was the right dosage especially since he had one issue of hypoglycemia, unfortunately our regular vet clinic was short staffed on doctors so we decided we would try a clinic where we believed the vets were qualified....we were wrong. Dec 16/24 our dog went in for his glucose curve test. Our dog had been on a dosage of 7 units twice a day for over 2 years with only one time issue. This clinic dropped his insulin down to 2 units twice a day and backed that decision up with he was most likely in remission which was not correct and a specialty animal hospital with internal medicine veterinary specialist said they have NEVER seen this in dogs only cats. Between Dec 16th and Dec 26th we took our guy multiple times back to this vet clinic with concerns of how he was acting..increased urination which is common with untreated diabetes to be told that it was our fault including that our 7 year old granddaughter must be giving him treats.. she has grown up with our dog and knew the dangers of snacks / treats that can happen with diabetes .. let me reiterate our dog was diabetic for over four years and it was controlled, and we have detailed medical records to show. Dec 27th we took him to different vet clinic and asked Family Vet to send over his medical records which took multiple calls requesting them and hours before they were received and when I reviewed the records on our dogs last time being seen by the "vet" he made a note that I declined physical exam ... first of all I assumed since we brought him in multiple times between Dec 16th - 26th that when he being examed by the vet and having blood taken that would be part of a physical exam. The new clinic accessed and stabilized him so we could make the trip to Boundary Bay that specializes in urgent care. He was diagnosed with pancreatitis, fluid in his tummy that required an NG tube and blood sugars that spiked or dropped dangerously low as they struggled to get his insulin to regulate which is hard to do when the pancreas is not functioning properly. He was finally stable enough to come home Jan 2 with medication for nausea and pain, feeding and pain management schedule of every three hours and glucose sensors which we had to change every two weeks until March 21st. From the time he was released he was under medical supervision by an internal medicine team and it looked like he might make it however all the damage that was done starting Dec 16th caught up to him and all of us and when we had exhausted all options we were left with the most humane choice which was to have him put to sleep. What we were left with is the heartbreak of the loss of a beloved family member, thousands of dollars in vet bills and ashes.

Her bed and blanket were cleaned when we picked her up. Our dog was also cleaned and brushed. We would definitely take our dog here again.

I am not happy with the care my 2 dogs received at this establishment. For starters it feels like…read morean animal shelter, all the dogs are going crazy and it's built with chain link and concrete. The sleeping area is quite small, it barely fits a large bed from Costco and the run is also quite short. They do take them out supposedly 2-3 times a day and let them run around in an enclosed yard. But I have a feeling that besides feedings, the walk out to the yard is the only time they are interacting with the staff although I can't say that for sure. I left things for my dogs to chew on to lessen the stress a little but they were never given to them. I sent extra wet food along with their dry food to ensure they would eat but since they hadn't eaten what was put into their bowls previously the staff decided not to keep adding food into the bowls. One of my dogs was starving when he got home and ate double what he normally does. I feel because this is a place to board your dogs that they should be given extra attention in order to make sure they are fed, exercised and comfortable, this clearly did not happen at this kennel. My dogs are very quiet and rarely bark. When I picked them up they were very anxious and stressed. The owner did call me back even though I left a message saying I was very unhappy. He apologized saying that giving the dogs the chew toys had slipped his mind. I don' t feel that this is a good excuse given that this is their job. If you want to save a few dollars and don't care how your dogs are doing while you are away then take them to this kennel, if you do then stay away and pay a little more for your peace of mind and your dogs well being.

Our review was erased twice from Starlight K9's Facebook group so I feel the need to write it here…read morewhere maybe it won't be erased .... unfortunately leaving my dog here for two weeks while I went on vacation WAS NOT an enjoyable one. I read the reviews and thought this place seemed great at first, every other place was booked up so I didn't have many options. I tried to book a flight to bring my girl with me however it was during the Christmas season so the airlines wouldn't let me take her along. I felt a little nervous about dropping her off as I witnessed another dog trying to hump my 10 month old pup, but the staff assured me the dogs were always watched.... The kennels did look clean HOWEVER some downfalls 1) all the dogs are allowed to run around together big, small, medium, giant, all of them can run a far ways because the kennel does own a very large piece of land ... I thought this would be okay however when I picked up my dog there was only one lady working, she was at the desk helping me for a good 20mins, she was the only person working while the other dogs were left outside to run along together, I see this as an issue BECAUSE my dog came home with scratches all over her face and body ... she also had a cut inside her ear, an eye infection, and a bandage around her paw from apperantly digging it in the snow (possibly true but seems far fetched as it never happens at home). Her dog bed came home with only the shell, the whole inside pillow was gone (however the outside was completely untouched and intact). None of her toys came back including the expensive Kong ones. She was completely crazy when I picked her up and acting like a complete savage for weeks later because the dogs are allowed to do whatever they want. All of these didn't seem that bad however, the one thing that really disturbed me is that they tried to charge me $4 for every meal for 10 days (I had dropped off food for my dog but they ran out, I had discussed with them that if she ran out I would have someone drop off more food, they agreed and said they would call, yet when I came to pick her up I was given a bill for her meals). Anyways, they switched her to the brand of food that they feed the animals (the food they highly promote might I add) which was Pedigree ... my dogs skin was flaky and dry when I got her back ... I tried to buy the same bag at 3 different pet stores (because I didn't want to switch her without mixing her food) where I was told blatantly by the pet store staff "WE DON'T SELL THAT GARBAGE" or "That's McDonald's for dogs" or "Pedigree is pretty much candy for dogs" ... I don't understand how a kennel can promote this brand ?? Also my dog was there for over 2 weeks and she stank and had not had a bath of any sorts (apperantly it's an extra expense I was not made aware of). The worst part of the whole experience is that my spouse tried to go there and talk to them about our situation and they were completely RUDE and unhelpful! I guess there was a reason every other kennel from Chilliwack to Abbotsford was booked up but this one was not. Dogs should be placed with like minded dogs in the same size range not all of the dogs left outside to wrestle together.... I'll cancel my trip before I ever leave my dog here again. Sorry Starlight K9 it's two thumbs down from us. Maybe if you would have been slightly less rude to us and a little more compassionate for the well being of my dog then I wouldn't need to go out of my way to warn people of your kennel. And you could probably step it up a few notches on the customer service department and with your staff professionalism while your at it.
