In Vancouver this is unheard of and we instantly appreciated it, especially in a time of distress over our Kitty. Once we entered, it was a bright, spacious, clean and welcoming environment. A coffee/tea station, kids area, 2 well maintained bathrooms, reading materials, comfortable seating, soothing radio and a water station. blankets, pet water bowls and beds are available upon request. The staff and Dr.'s are immensely knowledgable, helpful and friendly. Our Kitty had pain, got examined, treated and we left with medication that is, as we speak helping him tremendously with his condition. Thank you, Mountainside.

Last year we took our rescue there during a serious emergency. Getting any information from them at all during his ($14,000) stay was an exercise in frustration during what was already an extremely stressful time. Getting a phone call for an update, or getting any information from reception, or even when we arrived to take our boy home at the time we were told to be there and then forced to wait three hours... The whole thing left a terrible taste in our mouths. Then last night, I took our little puppy there (there was no other option as Fraser Valley was full) as he was suffering from an ongoing vomiting episode. I thought maybe this time would be different. Reception failed to outline what I should expect upon arrival - I was asked to call when I was in the parking lot, which I did, and when I brought the puppy inside we were rushed back outside to do a Parvo test (which I already knew he didn't need). The rectal swab was absolutely bungled by the person administering it -- zero bedside manner for a small puppy being held down in a parking lot while someone jabs something in the general direction of his rectum. Eventually we were invited inside after shivering in the parking lot, waiting for the results to be done, and the puppy was whisked away for vitals while I filled out their horrible iPad intake form. He came back and we settled in to wait. And wait. And wait. We waited for three hours before I finally asked reception approximately how much longer until we might see someone. I was told another 2-3 hours, and at this point it was 4 am and both the puppy and I were absolutely exhausted. The room we were abandoned in was filthy: filled with animal hair, dirt, and as my puppy was sniffing around the room, I noticed a lone forgotten turd underneath the doctor's chair. When I informed the receptionist that we would not be waiting another two or three hours, she said since only vitals were taken, we were free to go. And then chased after us in the parking lot, saying that no, actually, since they ran the Parvo test that would be A HUNDRED AND THIRTY DOLLARS. For a test I didn't ask for, we didn't need, and was only performed (and poorly) at their discretion. Nobody ever came to check in on us. Nobody ever came to give us an update. When we checked in, we were not made aware of the wait time; I certainly would not have subjected this little guy to a six-hour wait in that environment when he was already sick. I'm truly very happy for all the people who have had wonderful and transformative experiences at this hospital. I have not been able to share in that good luck. While I of course understand the concept of triage, being given the courtesy and respect of updates and some semblance of actual care would make all the difference for someone like me, whose case is admittedly non-emergent but still extremely stressful and anxiety-inducing, especially after the experience we had last year with this same place with an extremely sick dog. When people are coming in worried and stressed, the very least a place that purports to care about us while charging a premium can do is to remember that we (the clients) are there with our beloved pets (their patients) because we want to do what's best for them. This is a hard time for all of us - for our sick pets and for us, aching for them. To be shown into a disgusting room and forgotten about, to be ignored, to have to fight for the barest whisper of information or dignity... that is an insult to us and to our furry family members.

Originally I gave this business a 5 star rating based on the fact that we were taking our dog in for non invasive services such as nail trims and picking up his food and insulin over the last couple years. Our dog needed a glucose curve test done once a year to ensure it was the right dosage especially since he had one issue of hypoglycemia, unfortunately our regular vet clinic was short staffed on doctors so we decided we would try a clinic where we believed the vets were qualified....we were wrong. Dec 16/24 our dog went in for his glucose curve test. Our dog had been on a dosage of 7 units twice a day for over 2 years with only one time issue. This clinic dropped his insulin down to 2 units twice a day and backed that decision up with he was most likely in remission which was not correct and a specialty animal hospital with internal medicine veterinary specialist said they have NEVER seen this in dogs only cats. Between Dec 16th and Dec 26th we took our guy multiple times back to this vet clinic with concerns of how he was acting..increased urination which is common with untreated diabetes to be told that it was our fault including that our 7 year old granddaughter must be giving him treats.. she has grown up with our dog and knew the dangers of snacks / treats that can happen with diabetes .. let me reiterate our dog was diabetic for over four years and it was controlled, and we have detailed medical records to show. Dec 27th we took him to different vet clinic and asked Family Vet to send over his medical records which took multiple calls requesting them and hours before they were received and when I reviewed the records on our dogs last time being seen by the "vet" he made a note that I declined physical exam ... first of all I assumed since we brought him in multiple times between Dec 16th - 26th that when he being examed by the vet and having blood taken that would be part of a physical exam. The new clinic accessed and stabilized him so we could make the trip to Boundary Bay that specializes in urgent care. He was diagnosed with pancreatitis, fluid in his tummy that required an NG tube and blood sugars that spiked or dropped dangerously low as they struggled to get his insulin to regulate which is hard to do when the pancreas is not functioning properly. He was finally stable enough to come home Jan 2 with medication for nausea and pain, feeding and pain management schedule of every three hours and glucose sensors which we had to change every two weeks until March 21st. From the time he was released he was under medical supervision by an internal medicine team and it looked like he might make it however all the damage that was done starting Dec 16th caught up to him and all of us and when we had exhausted all options we were left with the most humane choice which was to have him put to sleep. What we were left with is the heartbreak of the loss of a beloved family member, thousands of dollars in vet bills and ashes.

Staff members did their best to make sure I did not miss my return ferry and even gave helpful advice on where to find a decent latte at the crack of dawn. When it came time to pay I was expecting a bill in the mid four digits- after all, this is ER care at 3am on a weekend- but the total was shockingly low! I even asked if they had forgotten to add in his bag of meds! The fact that affordable, quality emergency care like this exists is deeply heartening. We took our cat to the Pet Emergency Center and as miserable as that experience always is, they did a really good job and made the process fairly smooth. The veterinarian was a very nice warm person, and she did a very nice job with our cat and it went flawless. I would recommend the Pet Emergency Center to handle your needs if your normal vet is too busy to see you, as our vet always is. They have ample parking, and got us right in.

I received a phone call within 30 mins of email and as they have evening hours we could go as soon as my husband got home. The receptionist/assistant is extremely helpful and friendly and Boo loved her so much I don't think he wanted to leave even after a damaged claw removal. All staff made Boo and us feel cared about and calm. They were professional and friendly and have everything needed on site. I was impressed and relieved they did not suggest or push any extra tests or medication/food. When they took Boo in the back to remove the bent & infected claw they did say an x-ray might be necessary depending on what they found on removal. We were pleasantly surprised it wasn't. They had cleaned out the area and found the infection was mild so bandaging & a cone was not necessary. He just needed a few anti-inflammatory / pain pills and a week of antibiotics. The bill was the most pleasant surprise of all being less than we've paid for annual shots & a nail trip elsewhere. He was limping for a few days but heals quickly and is just find now. He's even using tapping your arm with his "sore paw" to extort extra pets & cuddles.

When Ollie's time to go came, Dr. Bowal, Techs Eva and Matt, and Manager Sarah were astonishingly kind to Ollie and to us. They are all exceptional. My family and I are grateful to them for their skill and kindness. I should mention that this level of veterinary care is expensive and that it was largely covered by our pet insurance with TruePanion, which I highly recommend to all pet owners.
