I've been meditating for over a decade now in the Vedic tradition and needed a refresher. As all Vedic meditators can (and perhaps even *should*) re-take the intro courses, I decided to jump back in with Vi (pronounced "Vee") while she was visiting Portland, Oregon last month. I had been dabbling with meditation for a couple of years solo and was looking to take my practice to the next level when I stumbled across Vi and Effortless Glow Meditation. I hadn't heard of Vedic meditation, but after discussing with Vi for a bit, I decided to give it a try. Vi is an excellent teacher and thoroughly explains everything very simply. She's also very accessible if anything--questions, concerns, troubles--comes up and you're not sure what to do. Doesn't matter if it's text, email or phone call, she's there. I have to admit I was a little skeptical about the effortless technique at first, even after taking the course. It "feels" different from the other meditation techniques I had tried. But after committing to Vedic practice for the last year, I've gotta say it's really been a life changer. I've been way more consistent with my meditations and feel much more present in my day-to-day existence. I've got less anxiety, stress, and more patience for all the things life throws at me. Vi was extremely helpful in a personal consultation. I have been a Vedic meditator for 3.5 years, and I sought Vi's guidance about how to approach a challenging situation and resulting anxiety and depressive periods. Vi listened carefully and allowed me a safe space to share my experiences. I felt instantly comfortable with her. She quickly understood my point of view and my experiences, and without having met me before, was able to put herself in my shoes. She then gave me practical concrete steps to help reconnect with my body and my instincts during a difficult period. She also gave me guidance about how to frame the issue I have been facing from a more evolved vedic perspective, given that the years of meditation have already provided enormous support and reconnection to my body and my own natural instincts. I went to Vi a year ago during a tough time in my life and took her course to learn how to meditate. She was so amazing at explaining every step and guiding me through the process. Last summer, in anticipation of my second knee replacement, I studied vedic meditation with Vi. I had been a "struggling" meditator for almost 20 years and found that Vi's effortless approach suited me very well and I easily was able to meditate twice a day. During the months prior to my surgery, I found myself able to be more accepting of what life was bringing to me. I had my first knee replacement in November of 2017, and almost on the anniversary date, I had my second knee replacement. So, I had something to compare. The day of my surgery in November of 2018, I met with the anesthesiologist and he said "You are the calmest person I have ever seen." Because of that, he decided I didn't need to have too much anesthesia. I was awake when they rolled me into the operating room (the previous time I was already anesthestized), awake when they gave me the spinal block. My surgery started at 7:30 a.m., (same time as before). The surgeon called my spouse at 9:30 a.m., (same as before) but this time, I called my husband at 10:30 a.m. For the first operation, I had spent the night in the hospital and hadn't woke from the anesthesia until approximately 26 hours later. This time, I was home after a physical therapy session by 3 p.m. on the same day. My recovery has been amazing. It has been just 2 months since my surgery, but I feel like I it has been the same progress as at the 5 month stage. I recently moved to the US from Mexico City and to be honest I had stopped meditating for the past months. I had my initial training on Vedic meditation from a friend and colleague of Vi from Mexico City but as I moved to San Diego and restarted my practice I was facing several obstacles and wanted in person guidance. Vi went out of her way, having never met me to meet me to discuss these issues. She listened and after hearing all of my doubts questions and concerns she explained to me with much patience and details. I can't begin to say how much she helped me. It's like she understood me after only a few minutes of meeting me. She explained things in a simple and clear way providing me with real world examples.
