Like most people, it's never a fun trip to the emergency vet, but the staff at VEG made it as easy and painless as possible. I had to take my dog in since he was very lethargic and shaking, and the nurses and vets asked me a lot of questions and were very patient and kind to my dog. They got me an answer quickly and were upfront with the charges before they moved forward with anything so there were no surprise costs. I was very disappointed in the service that my friend received at this er for pets. She took her sick dog there and they suggested that she leave dog, and then the later suggested that the dog be put down with no diagnosis of what was wrong with the dog. I went with her the next day when they put the dog down. They were very cold and uncompassionate. They rushed us into a room and gave her little time with her dog before rushing to put her down. I would've preferred to leave 4 1/2 stars, but that wasn't an option. We had to say goodbye to our 10-year-old Shorkie last night and it may have been one of the hardest things I've ever done. The people at VEG Brentwood were compassionate, kind, and very patient and accommodating. The doctors were top-notch. I had taken Sherlock in the night before because he was not himself. We were there from 8 PM to 4 AM. However, there were so many other animals in need of help and some of them critical. The wait was to be expected. They offered drinks and snacks to all of the humans and they provided water and anything we needed for the pets. Again, absolutely no complaints. However, the following are just a few things I would ask you to consider to help those who are facing this in the future: 1. Please instruct your employees to refer to it as general cremation and not mass cremation. Only one employee used the term, but when you're there to euthanize, it's jarring. 2. Figure out a better way to pay for the service. Let us do it first. Before we even go into the tastefully arranged euthanasia room. Swiping a credit card literally over my dog's sedated body as we prepare for the final goodbye was just this side of traumatic. Why couldn't you send it via text for approval and payment like you did all of the services the night before? 3. Today I woke up to a very kind text from VEG telling me they were checking in on Sherlock and we could call them at any time with questions. They were the ones who had euthanized him the day before, so that text was unnecessary and was decidedly tear inducing. Again, I wanted to send this to the company, but I genuinely couldn't find a response number or email on the website. If I had another pet, I would feel very comfortable taking it back to this establishment. You will not go wrong having them care for your pets. And I had to listen to her cry in pain because they couldn't get a IV in her leg, I will never forget that. The next morning I get a call that she needs to be put down. I went in and for an extra $198 they would euthanize her. I only encountered two nurses that showed compassion, the Dr that told me she wasn't in a life threatening condition wouldn't even make eye contact with me. The veterinarian, Dr. Rachel Williams, let my dog die. She sent him home while he was still actively struggling -- with blood and foam coming from his mouth, barely able to walk, dehydrated, and clearly not stable. She knew he was likely going to continue having seizures, yet instead of focusing on stabilizing him first, she immediately jumped to the worst-case scenario the moment she heard his age: "brain tumor." We had barely been in the building for 20 seconds before his history was dismissed. Nothing I told her about my dog seemed to matter. Before fully considering basic history, bloodwork, or less extreme possibilities, she was already preparing a treatment plan totaling nearly $9,000: MRI -- $4,000 Possible brain tumor surgery -- $5,000 At that point, my dog hadn't even been stabilized. The second I questioned whether there was any guarantee he would survive and asked if we could simply focus on stabilizing and monitoring him first, it felt like treatment stopped altogether. They disconnected his IV despite acknowledging he was dehydrated. That alone makes no sense to me -- hydration and stabilization are basic emergency care, and that's exactly why we came to the ER. When I asked if we could at least keep him overnight for monitoring, I was told, "It would still be $4,000." My dog left that ER in terrible condition, and they knew it. He still had blood and foam in his mouth. He could barely walk when we got home. Throughout the night, he struggled to breathe while stressed and suffering, and 12 hours later, my dog died right in front of my eyes. Maybe he had a brain tumor. Maybe he didn't. What I do know is that I was handed every possible worst-case scenario before anyone seemed willing to focus on the basics. I had to ask questions just to hear anything remotely positive. I had to ask about the bloodwork -- which I was told came back perfectly fine. I had to ask about the ultrasound -- which I was also told looked perfectly fine. We trusted this place. Looking back, I'm incredibly grateful I didn't leave him there overnight, because I truly believe he would have died there alone. It's heartbreaking to live in a world where money-driven protocols seem to come before compassionate patient care. My dog deserved better than this. . $800 to worsen my dog's condition. Please don't be fooled by this place and their great reviews. On the forefront, they are great, but you better have money. They have an agenda. At least Dr. Rachel Williams does. I am more than willing to speak to anyone on my experience. There is so much more to this story. I am so heartbroken over this, and so mad at myself for choosing this ER. read more

Can say without hesitation the amazing team here have not only saved my baby's life but saved my family every time! Recently she had an accuse infection hit her hard and her health deteriorated rapidly. They were willing to work with my family to ensure her life was saved and we were able to afford the care. Dr Bailey was exceptionally incredible and the emergency surgery needed to save her and subsequent recovery went more smoothly than I could have ever hoped for!! We had an amazing first experience at VEG. After a Google search and recommendation from our vet, we brought our dogs here for emergent x-rays. We received a check in link prior to arriving, which helped to expedite our visit. We were brought to an exam room immediately upon walking in the door. Their clinic is set up as a triage facility, but all of the animals being treated were contained to their own areas and we did not feel uncomfortable with the set up. The nurses that triaged our dogs were so attentive and sweet & despite it being a busy night, the doctor was able to see us very quickly. Everyone in this clinic was amazing. I am so happy to know this resource is so close to home in case we have an emergency. From the time we walked in to check out, every single staff member was knowledgeable and friendly. My dog is super difficult at the vet, and everyone there was so great with him, especially Bostyn. They even gave us a little Matt and blanket to make his time more comfortable. At the end of the visit Dr. Williams sat down and explained everything and answered all my questions. I also received a very detailed email with the entire plan of care including info on references, next steps, and all the details of the labs and images, etc. I truly appreciate everyone that works there and so thankful for what they do. My German shepherd hurt herself on July 4th while we were visiting family. She didn't want to put weight on her back paw and she seemed normal that night. However the next morning she didn't want to eat so we just knew something was wrong. I called all the local vets and no one could see us and even one other 24 hour hospital denied me and told me to call the Veterinary Emergency Group. So I called and they told me it was a walk-in situation and as of that time there was no wait. So I rushed to get ready and we were at the hospital within an hour. I had done a preregistration on my phone so they had our info when we arrived. We were brought into the treatment area right away and my boyfriend and I were just blown away by the facilities. It was bright, open, clean and very warm and welcoming. There were sofa areas that lined the perimeter of the room, cafes that lined the walls, they separated each family with their pets and it was just a very calm situation. They brought out mats for the dogs to lay on the floor along with blankets for the animals and for the humans. They were short handed with staff and someone was also training so there was a bit of a wait for things to be done. We got X-rays done and my poor baby broke a toe and needed a splint. The doctor was super nice and explained everything to us and gave us recommendations. Other staff also kept checking on us and offering drinks and snacks. We were there for less than 3 hours and it was a very pleasant experience. They were very efficient, they emailed me everything I needed to file for an insurance claim (my girl has doggy insurance) and it was so nice that I didn't have to chase them down for it. I like that. They said they were going to do something and they did it in a timely fashion. They deserve 10 stars! If we move to the area we know where to go for emergencies. read more

Had to take my sweet baby to the vet, and decided to go to Veterinary Emergency Group. The staff were really nice and welcoming. The facility was clean and well organized. I love the fact they let you sit and wait with your babies while they are being seen, even through surgical procedures. The staff came over and introduced themselves to you and ask if you wanted drinks or snacks while you wait and they also set your fur babies up with mats and a towel while you wait. It is cold inside the facility, but they provide you with blankets upon asking. Would definitely recommend this place to others. read more

I despise this place - on the toughest day of my life, I found it to be uncompassionate and confusing. I brought in my sweet little Cavalier Blanche at 2am because I woke up to her making a weird noise and was concerned because she had heart disease. Her oxygen was at 90% (healthy dogs are around 95%) and she was very much acting like herself when I brought her in. She tried scratching at the oxygen tank when they put her in and was even fighting the sedative they gave her - responsive and alert. I spoke with a tech and there did not seem to be urgency in her situation and they were going to run $3,800 of tests on her and hospitalize her to be on the safe side. OK, that was a steep price but I would rather be safe than sorry. They charge a premium for EVERYTHING HERE. Again, it's my baby and I just wanted to know she was okay. I left shortly there after anticipating I would be picking Blanche up later in the day because again, she was responsive and her symptoms were not super alarming. Had I known what the rest of the day would bring, I would have stayed with my baby. Fast forward, I get a call from Dr Julie Horton in the morning saying Blanche has not improved and we should consider euthanasia. I was absolutely shocked. The state that I dropped my dog in was not worthy of euthanasia. I got my stuff and was at there office within 10 minutes to find my dog barely responsive in the oxygen tank. Horton saying Blanche did not "improve" was not accurate, Blanche had actually declined substantially in her care. When Dr Horton came over to talk to us, I was in absolute disbelief and just wanted to understand how Blanche got so much worse in such a short span of time. I told Horton that "I don't even know the right questions to ask" and she just stared at me blankly. I was practically pleading for some explanation as to how her condition got so dire and all I was met with was "she's struggling and needs to be put down." The worst part about this is it's in a room with 20 other people watching as I'm balling my eyes out in shock having to make the hardest decision of my life with no explanation as to how it came to that. No reference to any of the $3K in tests I paid for that would help explain anything, just pushing to put Blanche down. After I agreed, I asked if we could wean her off of the oxygen tank before they took her in the back to at least let her lungs acclimate to the room and so I can have a little more time to say bye to my beloved dog. But no, she was removed immediately and practically suffocating. I got a mere 45 seconds with my dog before she was gone and I was left holding her body. After they came and took Blanche, nobody even bothered explaining that we were free to leave after. We stood in the main room in absolute distress with people looking on until I finally asked if it's okay that we go. Absolutely unacceptable to leave pet owners in such a confused state. The main thing I want to say is directly to Julie Horton and it's that you suck through and through. Your bedside manners are horrendous and you did not even bother explaining Blanche's test results to me to give me some peace and explanation as to how my dog who I debated dropping off because she was acting normal, needed to be put down 6 hours later in your care? Did you care for her properly? Did she get oxygen toxicity in the tank? Was she just another large bill to ring in? Why did you not at least wean her off of the oxygen so she could be more comfortable so we could have more time with her? These are big questions that I never got the answer to. And what a burden to leave a pet owner with. read more

Pet emergencies are stressful no matter who you are, and for those of us that our lives revolve around our fur babies, even more so. For me personally it was a day packed full of stressors, not particularly bad, but, having fear that my best friend could have his life in my hands in those moments was enough to have me in a full sob on the drive over. I called ahead of time and made the hour long drive up, and was met with urgency and kindness right away. I was made to feel comfortable and in good hands the entire visit, everyone that talked to me was patient and explained to me what was going on so I felt more at ease. They offered me options for my financial situation, very reasonable options at that. Luckily I was able to pay for the whole treatment, and my baby came home with me safe and well taken care of. All of my questions were answered with again so much patience and kindness. Unfortunately I was too stressed out to remember anyone's name, I do remember them calling one of the nurses "Bug" I believe, he was extremely professional and kind. He was able to get a sample from my boys "tiny bladder" and send us on our way with the proper medications and a much lighter heart. Thank you so much to all of the lovely staff. My 14 week old puppy ( Bandit) got parvo and I spoke with Dr Slaughter about our money situation at 3 am on a Sunday morning. 2,000$ was not enough they, she said bring 1,000 and she would work with us. So everything is had in my account was 2 200 but they wanted 2900$ So we had to leave and Bandit Died 10 hrs later. I would have brought up the 700$ in the morning. I could have got a loan. Because of VEG I know what it means to be truly grateful for a care team. every single experience and interaction with every single member of this staff was nothing short of five stars. Everybody was so caring (one of the nurses even got into the crate with my dog when she had to be hospitalized - you can't fake that!) they even brought us drinks and snacks while waiting in the waiting room, such a nice and empathetic touch. Second time using the VEG group. I hate writing negative reviews but I feel this is warranted as it's been two very bad experiences. While they are a very nice group of folks, the first time they sent us away and assumed the excessive drooling for two days was "normal" when our dog had actually swallowed a rock and required emergency surgery a day later. About a year later we came back for a bout of diarrhea over the weekend and after two visits (both totaling 3-4 hours each and a total bill of more than $1500), we were finally given anti-diarrhea medication. Honestly pretty ridiculous that they didn't give us that on the first visit (we only got a probiotic) and that we had to come back a second time, do more x-rays and sit there for another 3-4 hours before getting some basic medication that we should have gotten the first time. This was a simple case that never should have taken that long nor that much money. We will not be back. read more

Well unfortunately (for our dog)another visit to VEG, this time euthanasia was required. We went Sunday morning, they gave us all the time we wanted with her, and when the time came everything was explained by the wonderful vet with honest caring and compassion. This is the hardest decision to make with your pet, and our emergency vet was unbelievably patient, calm and caring. We only had one hiccup, we had called ahead because we wanted to make sure this was an available service. We explained that she could not walk at all , she just kept collapsing on the floor after one or two steps. When we got there, the staff came to the car with a stretcher but insisted we put a leash on her and let her walk in. With my husband and daughter carrying her back end she got to the door and completely collapsed and could not move any further. My daughter insisted they put her on the stretcher they had with them, my family helped lift her on and we got her to a room, where she laid down and never got up again. I realize vet medicine can be very challenging and frustrating, I can not imagine dealing with families that want to put pets down because they don't want them anymore, among other reasons. But seeing a dog who couldn't stand at all there should be some realization that this dog needs help and it's time to communicate with the owners on the best way to assist this animal, not insist the dog should now try to walk. Just some education that might benefit the animal. read more

My Chiweenie, Winnie, & I unfortunately (BUT fortunately it WAS AT VEG because of how AMAZING they are!) had to make our first visit to VEG on 10/23/23. Winnie was diagnosed with Pancreatitis & an Ileus-- most likely caused by a new food topper that she got in her October BarkBox. She went from perfectly healthy & normal to vomiting over 13x in less than 6hrs, lethargic, shaking uncontrollably, retching, & falling to the floor in pure exhaustion and pain. I took in her & we got treated and sent home but ended up having to come back less than 12hrs after our 1st visit due to my girl not doing any better & now having diarrhea. VEG was amazing w/ answering my questions/concerns over the phone & giving me their honest opinions on bringing her back in to be admitted. She was admitted for 2 nights & 3 days and I could not say MORE POSITIVE THINGS about ALL THE STAFF AT VEG!! I truly felt like I became a part of their little family there, as did my Winnie girl, and when she was discharging they all knew her by name (as well as me) and were happy for her but sad to see "their favorite patient" go!! The entire place ran like a well-oiled machine & I felt safe and a bit more at ease in such a scary situation knowing my Winnie was in the absolute best hands!! They went ABOVE & BEYOND for Winnie & I-- they always set up a mat w/ blankets for me to sit on w/ her during my visits, they set up an iPAD in her cage & had kids shows w/ lots of animals playing for her (I found that SO ADORABLE!!), & they even gave her an AWARD for being "Patient of the Night" and they truly hit on all of her personality traits! They also knew I was a Pediatric ICU Nurse so let me help w/ some of Winnie's care & answered ALLL of my countless "curious" questions that I had for them!! Everyone was BEYOND kind & friendly! I even asked about "how can I get a spot volunteering here/do you have volunteers?" because I LOVED the environment so much (not the fact that my pup was there of course but my medical nerd side came out ), the people there, & the energy that was in the building was just that of a place where it makes you feel like "ohh I would LOVE working here!" So if y'all ever want a volunteer human nurse turned animal nurse then I'M YOUR GIRL A special shout-out to these staff members at VEG that played a special role in caring for my sweet Sausage Girl (and anyone else if I forgot your name!!)= - Boston - Alex - Erin - Dr. Pannone - Monique - Dr. Stoddard Happy to say that Winnie is on the mend & is now on her special "vet-prescribed low fat diet" chowing down & missing her VEG friends! I took my dog to the vet one night after he received his yearly vaccinations because he was vomiting throughout the day. I had assumed he would have adjusted to his vaccinations by now, but I was mistaken. In hindsight, I should have taken the same precautions since he was one year old. The staff were prompt in admitting him to see the emergency vet. One aspect I appreciated about this veterinary clinic is that you can stay with your dog during procedures and even remain overnight if necessary. The treatment area is an open floor plan, which makes it easier for the various staff members to key an eye on the animals and the owners. I don't even know where to begin. The top notch emergency care? The compassion every single employee there had at all times? The knowledge that was spilling out from everyone I spoke to? The wonderful nurses and doctors who brought my Ellie girl from the brink of death back to her beautiful, loving self? The willingness to help with whatever was needed at anytime, no matter how busy?
