I have a 10-year-old German Shepard (long haired). I have been taking my dog Athena to this Petco in Brentwood Mo for grooming for 10 years without circumstance. I dropped her off at 1:00 pm on Thursday 8/22/24 for a total groom. Bath, trim, nail trim which comes with the bath, extra bushing for shedding. The bill total without trip was $142.00 with tip $162.00. I never demand a time i have to have her. I always tell them whenever knowing she will take a long time. The groomer who did her i have never seen before. I believe she is somewhat new. I picked her up at about 5:30 pm. She was still pretty wet. No trim or very little. She claimed she could not stand. Which is BS. But ok whatever... Walking out i looking down i noticed her nails were still too long not cut. When i questioned her about that she said, "she would not have it". WTH She was very arrogant and suggested to take the dog to a mom-and-pop place where they have braces to hold her up. Again, total BS When we came home i then noticed how choppy her hind quarters looked. There was still a matted area behind her one ear. Honestly, she looked like she was bathed and that was it. No extra brushing. Clumps of hair coming off of her. The dog looked worse than when i brought her in. I went back to the store Friday 8/23/24 to speak to a manager. He was useless in speaking to him. He directed me to the grooming manager. She was not much better very arrogant and a can careless attitude. At this point i just wanted her nails clipped. The manager said i had to use the same person who did not do her job the first time. I brought her back 8/26/24 and i was met with the same arrogance and attitude. The groomer barely trimmed the nails. When i requested a trim of the hair on the paws i was told no. "She won't have it again" Did not even try or attempt. This was said to me straight out of the go in walking in. Then i was told they will not groom her anymore due to her age and immobility which again that is not the case. Again, a mom-and-pop comment I have attached pictures of Athena from August 22 the handy work of this groomer or i should say lack of work. And of Athena from April 2024. Just months ago. You can clearly see the difference in grooming and again never an issue with other groomers or her mobility. This dog is still very active. Runs, plays. Jumps on my bed which is over 2' off the ground. Very strong and will take me down if she pulls. She does not move or act as a senior dog or have standing and mobility issues. I think it was the groomer if there was an issue. She had a vibe to her that was not friendly or good. Julie who typically groomed her is gone and there was another young and very sweet young woman as well that is gone. Never a word about my dog being difficult or mobility issues of standing. Bottom line this groomer did not do her job. My dog was barely groomed. She is to this day dropping lumps of hair all over. Usually, you can't get hair off of her after this grooming with extra brushing. Or Shed process. Horrible customer service at the Brentwood Mo location due to this groomer and the manager. Total rip off. And discrimination practices. The dog is old and so i am i! I have attached pictures of the latest grooming of 8/22/24. And an example of the groom from April 2024 that is done correctly by Julie. Night and day difference. I will be pursuing my money back and contracting the BBB with a complaint DO NOT TAKE YOUR PETS HERE FOR GROOMING!!! Peto save your response for the next person you rip off for service not given. There was no professional manner in this whole situation. This dog went from groomable to a senior dog in 3 months. I think not! I think it is called I don't want to do my job but get paid for it. it's mid. they have good toys and organic food for my cat and even cute cat trees and bowls and her favorite bed that she LOOOVES, and the service is pretty nice EXCEPT FOR THE VET!!!! DO NOT GO TO THE PETCO VET!!!!! They said they were going to trim her nails but they said she was being "too difficult" so they "couldn't do it"?!?!! Like, no, my queen isn't being too difficult, CUT HER NAILS!!!! And on top of that, we took a fecal sample to make sure everything was fine in the tummy area and they said it looked fine but a WEEK after we took her home we found out SHE HAD WORMS?!?!! We came here because PetCo was having an adoption day through Abandoned Paws. Our hearts fell in love with a 3 month old chocolate lab mix and we adopted him that same day! PetCo made the whole experience easy and stress free. The service was amazing and everyone working there helped us pick out everything for our new puppy. We were given amazing discounts and coupons and the people that work here GENUINELY want to help you out and really care for animals. We dropped in again on Sunday to get a new doggie tag and even then the people there asked us how our first night was with the new pup and gave us more tips and doggie treats and goodie bags! I couldn't have been more happy with the service and help we received from PetCo. I wish I could review Abandoned Paws but they are not on yelp. You can find them on Facebook or by Googling. I would recommend them if you want to adopt a new puppy and give them a new home. The lady helping us do our paperwork told us if the puppy gets lost to call her no matter what time it is because she will help us search for the puppy. This review is solely for the dog socialization/puppy playtime event held on Saturdays from 3-4 pm. All the dogs get together and romp around. Maria, the supervising employee today, did a great job monitoring for accidents and had my dogs name memorized instantly. The dogs and owners are friendly and the owners pitch in to help when there are accidents or disputes. Smaller or timid dogs might be overwhelmed at first because "the pack" loves newcomers. Only con is that the play area isn't very "formal" -- it's just an area of the store fenced off with a flimsy plastic fence. Savvy dogs were able to jump out. I prefer the more solid, larger training arena I've seen at Petsmarts. Overall the event was a great experience for my pup, not to mention free, and I plan to come back next week. read more

I have been coming here for pet needs for awhile and I like it because the employees are always helpful and treat you like a person instead of a chore to get you in and out. I never have to wait long for service and check out is pretty quick. Recently Petco made a switch to food without additives so I am pleased with that. I would like more sales but that is corporate's decision. Thanks for the healthy food choices and the special diet food choices like K-d food for my cat. They do have curbside pickup which worked really well and I didn't have to wait long. read more

This use to be our favourite PetCo. We would spend a lot of time and money purchasing supplies for our exotic pets. We purchased a bearded dragon from this location on Sunday, June 9th. On Tuesday, June 19th I called in to talk to someone because he was sick. When we purchased him we doubled checked with the clerk on lighting, and he told us to get the wrong light. We double checked the best substrate, and bulked up. We even confirmed diet and things. We did everything, plus some to make sure that our newest addition to our family would be going home to a properly set up and secure new home. By the 24, his health was not getting any better and the store manager Jersey said to set up an appointment with the vet. So we called our vet, the problem was, he was out of the office until Wednesday. So we set up another appointment with Tim Sullivan's office. I called PetCo no less than 4 times trying to get someone to call in to confirm the appointment, every time they swore, it would be taken care of. It was never done. I took him to the vet and paid out of pocket for something that PetCo should have corrected. We then went to PetsMart to get the proper lighting for $20.00 less. I'm highly disappointed that they sell animals and then dont live up to their own guarantee on them. I didnt want them to give me my money back, I wanted them to help take care of an animal that was part of my family. If you have fluffy animals, then PetCo is the place to go. If you're like us though and have exotics, don't waste your time/energy or money at PetCo. I should have listened and saved myself a couple hundred dollars in vet bills and purchased my bearded from a show or local breeder. Very very disappointed in this store and we will not be returning for any of our supplies. read more

Just became a pet owner! While i'm sure there's plenty of great places to get a pet, Petco was great to me! I went in just to "pet the kitties" during the first snowy day in STL, but of course after holding a couple sister kittens i just couldn't help myself. After an OK from my landlord, I began the "adoption process". All their cats were fixed, up-to-date on immunizations, and litter box trained. The staff was super friendly and you could tell they are all animal lovers at heart. They introduced me to the family that had been fostering my new kitties, and i was able to ask all questions.. are they good with kids? yes. Are they good with other animals? yes. etc. etc. I had to fill out a little paperwork which was mostly short-answer questions, basically asking me if i have a cruel history towards animals (I'm in the clear). And then they kept my cats to the side while i walked around and gathered all the supplies i'd need for my apartment. They even let me borrow a carrier as i clearly didn't come in with one. Even if you're not in the market for a new animal, give a walk around Petco on the weekend. Petting the puppies and cats will brighten your day. read more

I'm a fan of this Petco! I usually frequent PetSmart in Brentwood when it comes to supplies (cat litter, toys, leashes, etc.) for my cat, but I was closer to Petco and needed some cat litter, so I stopped by. The store is quite small, but they had everything I needed, so no complaints there! I highly recommend joining their Petco Pals program. It's free, and you get pretty good discounts on items. I saved about $6 on cat litter just from being a Pals member. Oh, and the service here is ridiculously friendly. Two thumbs up! read more

Took our 3 month puppy in for grooming and got turned away because his vaccine record said he hadn't gotten his Parvo vaccine. On the paperwork it said he had gotten his DHPP which includes Parvo. Really complete lack of knowledge is horrifying. read more

WARNING! The store as a whole is a good store but we took him e weevils in some bird food, which then infested our whole house. They are damn near impossible to get rid of and will get into EVERYTHING. On a better note. The free puppy play class on the weekends is awesome. The schedule online says it's for 30 minutes, but it's actually for an hour. I HIGHLY recommend it for socialization of a young puppy without having to be worried about large dogs like at the dog park. read more

Had a really horrible experience at this location. Dropped my dog off for a booked bath, shed release, and face/feet/fanny trim. When I dropped him off, I was told he had some mats that they'd need to "take care of" and that they were very busy and had no kennel space so I'd have to come as soon as they called to pick my dog up. I got a call 2 hours later to pick him up, woke my baby from a nap in order to get there and respect their time/space constraints. When I went to check out, I noticed I had been rung up for a bath/cut, shed release, and face/foot trim. I showed the cashier my booking of JUST a bath and asked if I was being charged correctly. She went and got the groomer, who came out and very aggressively started telling me my dog's hair was so matted they had to cut it, they don't usually book old large breed dogs on Saturday mornings (how is that my problem? His age and breed were known at the time of booking), and started going into an extremely condescending spiel about how difficult it was to trim my dog's nails and how crunched for time he was. All of this happening while my 100lb dog was pulling on his leash and carrying my 6 month old who was crying in his car seat. All I asked for was to check the charges because it wasn't what I had booked and I was NOT notified ahead of time that I'd be paying more for a cut, and the groomer was extremely unprofessional, rude, and condescending. I'm also very unhappy that I was charged $20 for a face/feet trim, when I ended up being charged for a haircut. At the very least, I won't go to this location and have to deal with that groomer again. read more

We came here a few weeks back to have both of our cats' claws trimmed. Groomer was very polite and the cats seemed very calm with her. Also grabbed some of the kitten food from which was much cheaper than the price we've been paying at Schnucks. Unfortunately it's a bit gard to find and convenience has been our best friend with the Schnucks only a mile away! Definitely give them a try for grooming service! read more

My son is a rescue foster with two fosters and two adopted dachys. He is a regular at Petco buying natural balance or prairie dog food and all other needs for his doggy family. It is aggravating to get coupons and then fine print saying dog food exempt or coupon good 1 day only. Give me a break! Thinking I had a coupon today, found it didn't apply to purchase today. The irritating point was the lackadaisical attitude of check out clerk. Three strikes youre out! To be candid, I originally came to this store instead of the other big box pet store in the area because they were not busy-I found there was a reason for that. I signed on for obedience class for my new doggie and recd two classes with an agreeable and competent trainer, but alas no designated place for a class. After they (ahem) left, I was assigned to another trainer who I had problems communicating with. OK....................I give up. Money down the drain. Called ahead and inquired about Vetco, their traveling vet service and was told by a manager that proof of prior vaccines was not necessary (which by law my dog had to have had when we partook of their obedience classes). Came back to get innoculations with Vetco and their first words were-proof of Innoculations please! OF COURSE Petco couldnt find the proof they already had from the obedience classes. When I became upset, they accused me of maligning their employees, and asked me to leave. I guess they didnt notice I was already on my way out??????? Bottom line-when the manager of a retail store cannot or will not make things right for his customers, his store does not DESERVE your business. We had to call after our dog had be there 7 hours before they told us he was ready. I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS PLACE. I am, or was, a frequent and loyal customer at this store. I loved to come in and speak with the familiar, friendly employees. However, my most recent trip will be my last. Finding a few mildly concerning things in the fish section. Fish possibly in the wrong tanks, signs of ich, etc. Nothing serious, but I thought that the employees might want to know. They usually appreciate my knowledge of the aquarium hobby. The employee I told soon got very defensive and angry at my concern for the animals. Bringing over a second employee, they both berated me for my concern. Saying over and over that I had no reason to worry, that the people at Petco are experts who know everything about fish, that I was insinuating that they don't care about their animals. I've never had any issues in the store (friendly staff, helpful) but repeatedly negative experiences with grooming. The last time I picked my dog up after a bath I noticed he winced when I pet his ear. Under his ear he had a small, deep, bleeding cut that I had not noticed before dropping him off. I called to ask about it and the girl seemed very defensive, immediately saying something about how that definitely wasn't from them and that she had noticed it, but figured I knew about it so she decided not to mention it (really?). Then she said, "You have another dog don't you? I'm sure it's from them playing together. I noticed other marks on him too." Well, those other "marks" are scars from before he was rescued, not an open, bleeding cut. Multiple groomers I have interacted with have been rude, as though me dropping off my dog to be bathed was a major inconvenience, and the grooming results are sub par. Even though I pay extra for nails to be filed they are consistently rough and uneven. I can't say with 100% certainty that the cut under the ear was from PetCo, but the way they handled it was the final straw. Won't be going back. read more

This was a failed attempt at getting our dog groomed. We were given excellent customer service the night before, being told that the groomer would be great. We later learned that they were from Petsmart. We called and basically had to beg for an appointment. When we got there, Julie, the groomer, was not friendly towards our dog who is 9 years old. She took her leash and dragged Porter across the floor. Julie then said that she can't do her grooming because she aggressively showed her teeth, and was panting because she just went on a walk so Porter would be calm for the grooming. Porter did not show her teeth because of her being aggressive, it was because Julie pulled her across the floor. Wouldn't you show your teeth if someone dragged you across the floor, too? We're going to Petsmart, where the other employees learned their customer service. If it is possible, 1/2 star would be better than 1. read more

Worst customer service I have ever received. Never again will I shop at Petco. I purchased a rabbit harness a few days ago and lost the receipt. Now petco's online return policy states this about returns without a receipt, Returns without a receipt but with valid identification after the 60 days, are eligible for a merchandise credit or an exchange equal to the lowest price at which the returned products were sold. Exclusions to this policy include: grooming tools; filters or pumps; pet medication or vitamins; dog collars and leashes; electronics; and pest control treatments." However, when I tried to return the rabbit harness the lady rudely stated in a loud voice that I could not return the product because it falls under the leash and harness category. I informed her it states on the website that it only applies to dog harnesses and collars not for other animals. She rudely snapped back and said that it applied to all animal harnesses even though the paper she showed me stated dog harnesses. This woman was extremely rude and talked to me like she was above me. I have had positive experiences at petco so I decided to use the live chat option on their website to resolve this problem. "Kurt" was extremely rude also. He said the exact same thing and said "sorry for the inconvenience". Petco's "easy" return policy is not easy at all but deceiving. I will never shop at a petco again due to the terrible customer service. Teach your workers to not talk to your customers like their above everyone. read more

I've gone to Petsmart for years but since Petco opened near Dierberg's, I really enjoy shopping here instead. Rewards program is great. Very good experience first time using their grooming service. I like the extras they provide, like various mini dog classes and learning sessions, and vaccination days. Although some prices may be higher than Petsmart for things like treats, they will price match. However I compared dry dog food prices and they were the same. I also utilize the free shipping repeat delivery through the website and collect rewards points that way as well. read more

I came to Petco almost 4 years ago, following the groomer we started witt6 years ago. She left a private practice to join Petco. Always have been so happy with the service and our pups even know her name. Two weeks ago I dropped them off at 8:15 am, was told they should be ready at 12:00 pm. Had a call at 10:30 am from the groomer that she had to leave, they had been bathed, and that was it. I waited until 2:00, called and no one answered the grooming line ( it rang for 10 minutes) I drove to Petco at 3:15. My dogs were not groomed, after the bath they were put in crates, wet. They were in the crates for over 7 hours! The manager said it was the fault of the initial groomer, but that's bullshit. She was gone, I didn't know why. My dogs were left in a crate wet and no one thought to call the owner! Animal abuse takes many forms. Shame on you Petco! I will never be back. And Mike (general manager) the most shame on you for letting @ 20 year experienced groomer go. YOU IDIOT read more
