I never want to have to visit a pet ER again, but if I did, I would absolutely come back here. Dr. Riddick, Marykate, and Jennelle took amazing care of Finn. Jennelle was our main point of contact and truly made the experience so much easier. She kept both Finn and us calm and informed the entire time. Dr. Riddick was clearly very busy that night, but when she got to Finn, she was thorough, reassuring, and took the time to clearly explain what she was seeing, how she would treat it, and potential healing considerations given the location of the injury. Finn needed stitches, and she provided very detailed aftercare instructions. We followed up with our regular vet a few days later just to make sure everything was healing properly, and I'm happy to say Finn healed great and had his stitches removed today. VEG even offered to remove them for free as a follow-up, which we really appreciated, but we opted for our closer vet for convenience. One thing we really loved was being able to stay with Finn the entire time. We could see him throughout the process and even watch as they placed the stitches, which made a stressful situation feel much more manageable. We're so grateful for the care Finn received here and would highly recommend VEG to anyone in an emergency. read more

*WARNING: STAY AWAY* I brought my sick cat there on 10/9/25 - she was bitten by a tick. When I picked her up the next day this is what I saw: She was covered in her own urine and feces, withdrawn, & stuck in a cage she couldn't even turn around in. I cried so hard when I saw my baby!! For literally 2 IVs, an antibiotic, and an overnight "stay" VEG ER in St Pete charged me over $8,300 before it was over. Just. Don't. Subject. Your. Beloved Pet. to this torture! My cat still has neurological issues that she did NOT have before we want to these charlatans. Stay away and learn from our horrible experience!!! read more

Had a middle of the night emergency and the doctor at the Dale Mabry location nearest me was in surgery so I was recommended to go over to the St Pete location. We received immediate attention. Dr. Riddick was very knowledgeable and caring. Our pup required overnight hospitalization. We had a clear plan of care and knew he was in good hands. Dr. Riddick called with an update in the morning before shift change. I also received text updates from the day shift until my dog was ready to be picked up. Discharge instructions were clear. read more

I will never forgive myself for trusting this facility! I brought in a little stray cat. I couldn't bring him into the home I was visiting but I cared for him in the back yard. Food, water, a place to sleep, visits throughout the day and night. Hoping to get him in a forever home. He was a sweet little kitty :( When he became ill (violently vomiting) in the early morning and was looking sluggish by noon, caught on security cameras, and didn't show up for breakfast, I was afraid he was poisoned, obviously he needed medical attention. I found him that evening curled in a ball very weak. I brought him to VEG ER, based on the little I know of the area. I was told VEG ER accepts strays in emergencies for medical treatment, THEN they'd go to the shelter. The catch is, you surrender the cat to them. They don't give you updates. Meaning you will never know what, if anything was done. You would never think they would do absolutely nothing, right!? Think again. I left this sweet little thing in their care and they did NOTHING! No exam, no pain meds, NOTHING. They let him suffer in a cage all night, only to hand him over to Pinellas County animal shelter in the morning, where AGAIN, no exam, no treatment, only suffering! I tried to get him back, adopt him, anything I could to get him some medical help. They would not allow it. He was in their custody. I could not help him. When I finally spoke with a higher up, I was told he had still been vomiting, not eating and started passing black stool so he was euthanized. I said, yes because he's likely been bleeding internally!! This cat had been suffering due to VEG ER's negligence. I'm sickened by VEG ER's complete lack of care, and their deceitfulness with me. I would have never left him there! I only "surrendered" him so he could get the care that was needed, with the silver lining of hopefully being adopted after. Poor little guy. He trusted me. I will never forgive myself for leaving him at that place. Please be aware, VEG ER is a for profit. Why they claim to help strays if surrender is beyond me!! This little guy should not have suffered like that. I'll be forever heartbroken. Anyone with any control during his lack of care should not be working with animals. No animal should be under their care and please NEVER surrender an animal to them. They aren't as caring as they act. **Update after owner response:** I understand there are legal and custody policies around surrendered animals. However, my concern is not about policy -- it is about the lack of medical care this cat received while in your custody. I was told your staff were unable to examine him because he was "fractious." As a result, no exam, diagnostics, pain control, or treatment were performed prior to his transfer to the shelter the next morning. Even if a cat is fractious, it is common for sick and injured cats to react this way, and it is reasonable to expect an emergency facility to have safe handling, sedation, or pain-management options so care can still be provided. Your statement that "Each animal is assessed by our licensed veterinary team, provided comfort care, and monitored, with all decisions made to prevent further suffering and in coordination with our shelter partners." Is not true in this cats case. Again, your team's assessed him as "fractious" and did nothing before the transfer to the shelter. The issue I'm raising is that a visibly ill, suffering animal appears to have been kept overnight in your ER without active medical intervention, and then transferred to the shelter in the same condition. He was placed on a stray hold and again received no treatment. After continued vomiting and not eating, he developed black stool and was ultimately euthanized due to his decline. I am sharing this so others understand my experience, and in hopes that future animals in similar situations receive timely medical care rather than only custodial transfer, or they are brought elsewhere. read more

I brought my cat in due to his excessive sneezing and head twitching that I thought he was having a reaction to prednisone that a reg vet prescribed him for his cough. He doesn't do well at the vet due to past trauma of breaking his leg (but he wasn't as bad as he is now) and I didn't have time to give him Gabapentin before the visit at VEG. I let the techs know this so they were aware he can be growly and possibly hissy. They needed to sedate him for xrays and bloodwork. They put us in a room, he was in his carrier on the floor with the side open, two techs came in the room, (I could tell one was less experienced than the other by the way the other tech was speaking to her), they were carrying a net contraption and a towel. They unzipped the top of the carrier with the side still open so he ran out as soon as he realized they were going to try to do something to him. They then proceeded to chase him around the room like loud maniacs to the point where he was cornered and literally pooped he was so scared. It all happened so fast I didn't have a chance to say anything or stop them. They sedated him, did xrays and it took 3 people to try to draw blood from him. He has been back to a regular vet 3 times since that visit and he is nastier now than he was before his visit at VEG, even with getting Gabapentin before the visits. He now tries to attack me when I'm trying to close up his carrier, he was NEVER like that before. Before VEG, I would let him out of his carrier in the exam room while we waited for a tech and vet, he would explore and be okay. I would pick him up and put him on the table to be examined, he would growl and maybe give a couple of hisses but tolerate it. When the exam was complete I would pick him up and he would gladly go back in his carrier and be okay with no hissing or trying to swat when he went in. He now even tries to attack once the carrier is closed up. These 2 techs need more training in how to approach difficult animals and situations. For that alone, I wish I never brought him there because he may never get past this trauma when I take him to the vet and he has plenty more vet visits in his future. It's not only stressful for him but me as well. The only positive of this visit was that I was able to call the hospital after the fact with questions and a doctor would get on the phone to answer all of my questions about my cat's symptoms. read more

Amazing place! At 3am, I was cutting my dog's nails, cut his quick too far and it wouldn't stop bleeding. Took him here and they saw him right away. Dr. Nelson and her staff took amazing care of him! Wrapped up his little paw and gave us further care instructions! I'll definitely be going back for future vet care. read more

I brought both my new rescue babies into VEG after they got into the trash and ate moldy food. We were immediately greeted with warm, friendly faces and given a room and a game plan. Both Birch and Freckles seemed at ease, even being in a vet's office. I didn't feel pressured to run unnecessary tests or spend money I don't have; just straightforward care to figure out what's going on. Turns out only one dog did the eating and the team gave it their absolute best efforts to try and induce vomiting. This girl is stubborn as heck and wouldn't do it. Rather than needing to pay to stay overnight, the team explained what to look for and let us go home to rest on our own. What could have been an emotionally (and financially!) devastating night ended with two wagging tails. Thank you so much for the whole team (wish I'd gotten their names but was so focused on my baby's care). Apparent UTI on a Saturday. My vet closed. The extent of recommended testing was, well, let's just say that I walked out when they told me they wanted just under $1000 for UTI testing in a 15 month old, healthy dog. I would like to start off by thanking you and your staff on the care you had for my world, my Bo. He was 17yo and I would've never had known that it was his time until he cried Monday night 09/15/25 in bed. I then knew he was suffering and in pain even though he never showed an ounce of pain before. He started walking in circles within the last month, getting extremely thin even though he was eating so well and just not acting his normal playful, loving self. I called your facility that night just to get an idea of what all would be needed just in case. I called again the next night after I got home from work knowing that it was that time. I cried until my head hurt and my stomach was turning. Thank God for a dear friend that drove us to your facility. We pulled up and I lost it, knowing that this night was going to be my last with my baby. He knew something was going on, he had not been on a car ride in about a year. I was a serious hot mess when I showed up. Your loving staff gave me some Hershey kisses to give him, being his last "good boys" he would ever receive from me. He enjoyed those so much. You had to give him a sedative because he was not having all that commotion and a needle in his leg without a fight. It hit him quick and he laid on the floor. I laid down with him and tried to comfort him as best as I could. Your staff made sure that he and I were comfortable during this process and made sure I had all the time I needed with him. You sat on the floor next to us lying there because you knew we needed to be together for this and you knew he was comfortable for the procedure. I just wanted it over with. He had 11 wonderful years with me after I rescued him. I could not leave that room knowing he was in there without me, so your loving staff made sure to take him out and to his final resting place so I could leave the room. Your staff and facility are Heaven sent to those of us that really need compassion at these times. I hope I never have to cross your paths again unless it is out in public.
