Our sweet Charlie ended up at the emergency vet with a bladder obstruction that required surgery. What started as straining to pee turned into a whirlwind of ER visits, anesthesia, and a major procedure to remove stones from his bladder. I don't usually share personal stuff like this, but I'm making this post for one reason only. If you ever have an emergency with your pet, go to VEG ER for Pets. When we were trying to find a vet to perform the surgery, our VEG doctor sat there and personally called vet after vet to get someone to fit us in. And when we finally found the right place, she stayed on the phone with the surgeon and fully briefed him on Charlie's condition so there was not a single gap in his care. They kept us informed, comforted, and confident that our boy was in the best hands. He made it through surgery like a champ and finally came home but after we got him settled, his temperature dropped and we had to rush him back to VEG. They immediately took him in, warmed him, ran an ultrasound to make sure nothing was wrong, monitored him until he was stable... and didn't charge us a dime. Because of how long this whole process was, and having to go back again, we saw three different doctors at VEG, and every single one of them treated Charlie (and us) with the exact same level of urgency, compassion, and kindness. That consistency in care meant everything to us. Charlie is home now, snuggled in blankets, eating, and slowly getting stronger! The staff that work here are exceptional. While waiting for treatment for my cat, I witnessed two separate families come in with gifts and gratitude (and chick fillet!) to the staff for the care their pets received. I also witnessed the staff have incredible compassion and practice ethically. An elderly woman came in with her cat, concerned about the cats eyes. After a thorough exam, she was told her cat was perfectly healthy and there was nothing to be concerned with. They didn't charge her for the exam, which I could tell was a big stress relief for her. In total I spent 3 hours here and my cat and I received exceptional care. I also witnessed the true hero's that wok here in their element. I highly recommend this place if you are ever in need of emergency vet care. 11/10! read more

They are genuinely the nicest people. We had a very sick dog. They were compassionate and caring. Unfortunately he didn't make it due to age and his illness. Went there on sat @ 1130 pm and they took care of us right away . All the staff and the doctors were great and so caring . My poor pup had her stitches removed earlier in the day but the wound opened up so we had to come here . They took amazing care of her and restitching her and placing a drain .we were there for a few hours because they wanted to make sure she was okay after anesthesia. We then came back 3 days after to get the drain removed and again the staff and the Dr were great . If you have a pup or cat emergency they are amazing with your animals. We have been here twice with our family. On our last visit we unfortunately ending up have to let our little Maddie cross the rainbow bridge. The staff is absolutely amazing. They explained what was happening and what our options were and gave us time to say goodbye to our little girl. Our pup had what seemed like a seizure and he seemed disoriented. We called VEG and spoke to someone who was knowledgeable and calm which was appreciated by us. We brought Jackson in and were seen right away. There were multiple doctors and staff on hand to give you undivided attention. They sat on the floor with him and were very attentive and reassuring. We got to stay with him the entire time. They seemed to think they he did have a grand mal seizure so wanted to draw blood for tests. At our usual vet, they have to muzzle him as he is quite reactive to vets after a traumatic experience several years ago. We were quite skeptical that here they were going to be able to even get blood without sedating him. Nava was a miracle worker! They worked quickly and very calmly and were able to extract the blood needed on the first try. Our regular vet has not been able to do that because he associates them with the traumatic heartworm treatment. We could not have been happier with our experience at VEG. The bloodwork allowed them to rule out several things as the cause of the suspected seizure. We suspect it was the experience of a very extreme 2-hour long thunderstorm, with a repeated thunderstorm the following evening that just sent his nervous system into overdrive. With all of the testing they were able to do, we could rule out a poisonous bite from something or exposure to something toxic, as well as other potential causes. We left feeling reassured that we were not continuing to put Jack in any harmful situations once we returned home. Such piece of mind! I would not hesitate to recommend VEG in Carrollwood! read more

I wanted Max to have the best care so after a quick call I took him to VEG ER on Dale Mabry. They took us back and at least 10 Doctors and staff worked on Max. He had problems with his back legs and his regular Veterinarian had been treating symptoms. They gave me all the options. They only charged me what I could pay. This place seems to only be interested in taking your money and not taking care of your pets. Not only did they not perform a procedure I was charged for, confirmed by the vet I had to go to the very next morning, they didn't give the right medication, so we are now back where we started and are having to go back to our vet to get the right medication . The tech at veg even described what the medication should look like and it was completely different than what they sent us home with. They did nothing to help our animal just racked us up a bill of things they never did and sent us home. read more

We took our dog here for a second opinion about a diagnosis from our local ER Vet. We sadly kind of knew what we were facing, but the veterinarian here gave us more details about the ultimate prognosis for our guy. They were kind, detailed in their information, and thoughtful in how they explained everything. Sadly, we lost our Otis that night, but the Vet and tech helped us through the process. They brought us to a quiet, softly lit room, and we all sat on the floor with Otis on a soft blanket as we held him in our arms. They were not only friendly and helpful but informative and transparent with the care and billing. From start to finish. They welcomed us and allowed us to visit with our pup throughout the entire stay. We saw so many cases of pets coming through and while some did not make it back home we saw the entire staff come together trying their best to save each life. This is a scary time both for pet parents but especially for the pets themselves; the comfort and support that this staff lends is truly amazing and appreciated. While costly when it comes to the obligation that we have made to these living beings - it ultimately is worth it. There were critical patients that needed care first but the staff spoke with us as soon as we arrived and took Teddy's info. He was seen by briefly by a vet for evaluation for treatment. Can't recommend enough! My dog has gotten into chocolate and cooked chicken bones over some period of time. I took her to VEG (which was on Bearss Ave at the time) and always had an amazing experience. They made treatment plans and suited my every need. I don't know how I feel about the "open concept" version of this vet because I feel a little awkward watching the vets/vet techs gossip and eat meals. But other than that, they are very responsive. I'll never forget our visit here on Tuesday, October 24. On this day, I had just come back from the eye specialist after they told me there was nothing they could do for my dog except take his eye out. They barely looked at him, just took his eye pressure and we went home. Later on, I observed him at home and watched him while he was laying down. He completely looked out of it, like scary out of it. I freaked out to no end. I put his head up and I was going to put an eye drop in his eye, and something came out. It was so weird. I had no idea what happened but I swear it just came out of his eye. It was the size of a popcorn kernel and white and flat with stuff on it. I put it in a baggie and we rushed to VEG. Unfortunately, fortunately we found out what coming here was like. They were very nice and patient, & brought us in the back. There were a handful of other animals with their family here. We waited for them to talk to us and advice us on him. They gave him a pain relief medicine. The ER Vet came in and she was very nice and very clear explaining to us what happened. His lens popped out of his eye. She reviewed the information I provided her from the specialist and let us know he needed that eye out asap which we were working on scheduling already. This scary incident was definitely uncomfortable and they did the best to make us feel at ease. We were also worried about the bill, but it wasn't bad considering we went there. It was around 9 pm on a week night and we were in there until about 10:30. I appreciated everyone we came in contact with who were very helpful and patient and caring to all of us. Went for an emergency visit for my dog Motzy and could not have asked for a better experience. The staff was so transparent, knowledgeable, kind and patient. They were busy but very well organized, efficient & calm. The facility is really clean and they keep you informed the entire way. My cat was very sick. Wouldn't eat or drink, vomiting, and diarrhea. They diagnosed it was pancreatitis. First day took him home with meds. No improvement. They hospitalized him the next day overnight. Questioned the doctor why no antibiotics given and I was told they don't treat his condition with antibiotics. I authorized the next step which was 3D xrays and sonogram looking for blockage which there was not a blockage. Released him next day promising me he was eating and drinking which was not the case. Rushed him to another ER next morning. They gave him antibiotics and kept him over the weekend. He came home with antibiotics and was himself again and doing well ever since. $4,000 bill from VEG just because they didn't try the antibiotics first. read more

The doctors and supporting staff are amazing! I had been to this location once before after I first moved to Florida and unfortunately had to put my dog of 14 years down. This visit wasn't as dire, but still cause for concern. Our large Golden Retriever needed obstructive surgery this weekend - their sign that says 'we get on the floor' means the vets and techs are on the floor keeping your pet comfortable since their primary concern is your pet AND you the owner. They let you stay with your pet the entire treatment - even offered to let me watch surgery (through a window into the OR) which I declined! The care and compassion shown to my dog AND me - offers to bring me snacks, coffee, blanket, etc. surpassed all my expectations. As we stayed overnight, I observed the care and love they administered to pets whose owners were not there - treating them as they would their own beloved pets. I highly recommend the South Tampa facility and all their staff, who continue to support us and encourage us to contact them with any concern no matter how small. read more
