Today I brought an injured juvenile anhinga crane in that had been hit by a vehicle right in front of me. I called every sanctuary that had been suggested. After many failed attempts and getting the support and help I needed to save this crane. I went here. Mind you this was our third stop at a suggested veterinary hospital. I was feeling hopeless and defeated convinced I was going to be met with the same dead end answer or result. As soon as I walked in I was met with a warm welcome and assistances. HEARTLESS!!! On Thursday, 9/4/25I rescued an opossum who has lived peacefully on our property for over a year. She trusted me, ate with my cats, and was part of our little family. We named her Pepper. On Thursday morning I found her hanging by her leg and badly injured, I got her water and made her comfortable. I placed her in a carrier in a quiet room checking on her throughout the day. Her breathing was normal and she was sleeping. I reached out to a rehab and did exactly what I was told to do by a licensed rescue: take her to Blue Pearl Brandon, where they assured me she would be transferred to a rehab. Bill and I drive 45 minutes to Blue Pearl Vet and gave them all of my personal information. They took Pepper into the back room and within a few minutes confirmed what I thought. They said she seems to have a broken leg. She's walking, but favoring the one leg. I specifically told them both on the form I filled out and verbally, that I wanted to be the release contact so Pepper could come back to her home territory once healed. We even stated that if transportation was an issue, we'd drive her. But now, days later, I cannot get a single answer. * Blue Pearl refuses to tell me where she went. * They will not confirm her condition. * They will not even tell me if she is alive. * Both Raptor Center of Tampa Bay and Owl's Nest Sanctuary confirm they do not have her. This is unacceptable. How are rescuers supposed to trust the system if we drop off an animal in need and then they vanish with no chain of custody, no updates, and no accountability? I don't want her medical records. I don't need every detail. I only want the basics: Where is Pepper? Is she alive? Who has her? I am posting this because people deserve to know that once you surrender wildlife at Blue Pearl Brandon, you may never find out what happens. And for Pepper -- who trusted me, and who I promised safety -- I will not stop asking. I was told by one of the rescues that she was possibly euthanized!!! A healthy Opossum who only had a broken leg and was supposed to go to a rehab!!!! This is why I DON'T TRUST VETS. Blue Pearl $$$pecialty & Non-Emergency Brandon, FL BLUF - If you care about your animal in a time when they look to you for protection and help, AVOID this facility like the plague and seek out another Emergency hospital that understands it's ALL about the animal's care and wellbeing, not the bottom-line profit margin. The family pet cat was heard howling, upon locating, it was found breathing shallow, pupils unresponsive. After two minutes, the cat was responsive to stimuli but remain shallow panting. At this time, we decided to take him to Blue Pearl. (Mistake number one). Upon arrival to the facility, rather than take action to calm the cat down, or place on an oxygen source to counter the rapid shallow breather, the "vet" advised that she would have to provide an "estimate" of the services the cat would require, before a triage of the conditions of the animal. (Mistake number two) Ten minutes later, the "vet" appears with a shopping list of potential problems ranging from an electrocution, poisoning, stroke, etc., all with a nice price tag to test for elimination of the cause. At this time, I had to INSIST the animal to be addressed for breathing and strongly suggested an X-ray as soon as possible to check for a lung puncture. For the next twenty to thirty minutes, stuck in a 8X8 exam room, NO ONE from the Staff came to provide any update or status. Once the "vet" re-appeared, putting eyes on the cat was requested, as the level of service that had been provided up to this time was complete unsatisfactory. Granted access to the back room, I witnessed ten personnel in scrubs standing around chatting. When shown my cat, it was CLEARLY in major distress, and the "vet" saw no issue with the condition. (Mistake number three) At this time, the "vet" was told, the cat was being removed from the Blue Peal facility due to the lack of proper care to the animal, which was under major distress, to be relocated to a different Emergency Care. Blue Peal took another ten minutes to provide a bill, which delayed getting the cat to proper care even longer. This story does have a happy ending, once the cat was removed from the toxic environment, and relocated to a different facility that provided proper EMERGENCY care, it responded and improved out of harm's way. Both the technician and Doctor came out to advise on the cats status. Upon checking nine hours later, the cat is doing extremely well, begging for pets. I realize that Blue Pearl will do their default response to this review with their generic, "out concern is for the health and welfare of the animal", so I say to you, the reader of this review, REASEARCH reviews of this facility, and you will find this incident is not unique. To Blue Pearl, rather than trying to solve the lack of care you provide and your focus on profit, recommend frequent TRAINING for staff on the mission functions you allegedly say you provide, to extend to the human-to-human interaction during a major stressful situation to both, pet and owner. During a medical issue, TIME is your worst enemy, not prioritizing how much of a profit margin you can collect. read more

This is by far the hardest review I have ever written. It has taken me over 3 weeks to write it as the pain of losing my best friend/soul dog has been hard. Even now 3 1/2 weeks later the pain is there. That being said, I'm glad we went to Blue Pearl in Brandon. From the moment we rushed into their waiting area, the staff was kind, responsive and respectful. We (my husband and I were an emotional wreck). Our sweet boy, Smokey who was 14 years old and had Cushings for the last 2 years had started throwing up and not eating the day before we took him to Blue Pearl. The next morning, he started throwing up and convulsing. Our vet told suggested we take him to the ER, which we did. The staff was so patient with us and kind to our boy. The doctor and I hate I can't remember her name as she was honestly the best (blonde hair and some tattoos - I'm sorry I can't remember your name - but I remember you). They explained what was happening and our options. Our boy was suffering and would continue to suffer, it wasn't fair to him. So we chose to let him go. Hardest decision I've ever made. The kind doctor, made him comfortable and sat with us until he was gone. I'll never forget her kind words and the fact she was also emotional over a sweet dog she had met that day. We lost our 14-year-old fur baby suddenly in the middle of the night. We are new to the area and weren't quite sure what to do. The staff at Blue Pearl Brandon were compassionate and helpful. Our Shey was a big girl. They came to our car with a gurney and blanket and respectfully moved her into a room where we could say our final goodbyes. They arranged cremation services and even returned some fur clippings and nose and paw prints. She was treated with the love and respect that a family member deserves. read more

I came in with my dog Sophie on Aug 31, 2025 and we were greeted by Luis, who checked us in fast. My dog was experiencing heart issues, and we were lucky enough to get Dr. Megan Johnson. Even though she is not a specialist in cardiology she was extremely experienced and knew exactly what to look for. She was very caring and answered all my questions. We had blood pressure taken, and x-rays that showed that Sophie had an enlarged heart. Dr. Johnson prescribed medication until we see the closest cardiologist at the Tampa location. Sophie is doing very well right now and I would highly recommend this Brandon location and Dr. Johnson along with her staff. read more

We brought our Little Emma into Blue Pearl in Brandon back in October before we left for a big trip, Initially we were recommended to visit the ER vet across the street, let's just say they were more than unprofessional. The next day (before we leave on a 12 day vacation) we rushed over to BP, they were nothing but amazing. We were able to get our little girl on some MEDS get her mending however her health was declining, FF to 4/14/24 - we had to make the very difficult decision to put her down. This was the first time I've ever been in the room with my pet, holding her while she was falling fast asleep, the staff at Blue Pearl were nothing but amazing, they made what a hard difficult decision comfortable. I found a group of triplet siblings under some leaves in my backyard.(tiny field mice) No mom in sight. I initially took them to Care animal clinic and was disappointed to find that they no longer accepted orphaned animals. Therefore...I headed to Harmony Pet Clinic in order to see if they had any suggestions or referrals that could be given to me in addition to what Care given to me. I came in at 7pm because my cat has not urinated and hasnt eaten or drank anything and was throwing up. was put into a room about 8:30pm and was left there. no one checked in or gave him a simple exam. someone came in at 10:40pm and told me another vet is coming at 12am and we should be seen soon. 1am rolls around. no one is at the desk and no one has checked in with me. i called and the lady said that there is someone before me that they havent gotten too and they have an animal sedated. i was there for 6 hours, and a cat not urinating can lead to death. its urgent for cats. he isnt a year old. i called another emergency vet and i told them the situation and they were shocked and told me i can come in. i came and they took him immediately. i would never go back nore recommended this place to any pet owners read more

The young man helping was not just professional but kind. The woman, maybe in her thirties, told me to put my dog down. When I did so, I dropped the leash and she jumped all over my case for it instantly before I had a chance to lean over. It was shocking to be spoken to like that. We told her that the accident had literally just happened and we rushed in. She proceeded to ask us over and over and over again if it happened that morning. My dog ate from a bag that was headed to the compost pile. Salmon, potatoes, squash (a little mold present) and espresso pucks. I was concerned about the espresso so I took her in 20 minutes after she ate it. Long story shortened..The vet was rude and looking for a cash grab. I specifically told her not to do blood work and X-rays. I consented to my dog staying to be watched since they gave her a bunch of meds instead of pumping her stomach. I get a call at 3 am the vet did X-rays without consent. The X-rays were good, well of course they were, she ate organic food! Now she wants to do a g tube. I tell her NO! I'm coming to get my dog! She tells me when I get there my dog is going to explode! Her exact words EXPLODE! With hand gestures! My dog farted several times and she didn't explode, of course! Extremely unprofessional! . They put this dog through so much that was not needed just to make money. They charged me $2000. I called and they did refund me $300 for the X-rays. They could have pumped her stomach, charcoal and sent her home. Why put this dog through that over organic food?!? Well because of money, that's why. Update: after seeing the reply I should add I was told on the phone (not naming anyone) She (the vet) was new. You should know an actual doctor heard your employee state my dog was going to explode! Your reply types well but the reality is what your business did is wrong and I hope one day it is not allowed to happen. Highly recommend Dr Johnson and BluePearl. We had an emergency concerning our black lab that required a surgical procedure. She was very clear of concerns and what she wanted to do as far as procedures were concerned. Post procedure she called us and explained exactly what she found and answered all our questions. She treated us and our dog as if she was our long term vet not an emergency situation. This morning around 12:30-1am my dog was crying in pain. I went to one pet ER (Fetch) and their wait time was over two hours. I called Blue Pearl and they confirmed there was no wait so i rushed over. As soon as i arrived and rang the bell they immediately came to the door, asked me questions and took my dog. They shared that it was a busy night and i came at a time that was finally calmed down so i was grateful. Turns out my yorkie has luxating patellas and wasn't able to walk well. They took their time explaining my options and answering all my questions. Their information was so helpful. I ended up leaving with pain medicine and scheduled a check-in with my dogs primary. Blue Pearl staff last light were so helpful and caring. They also were very patient with all my concerns. 10/10 recommend read more

My 3.5 year old pit/lab mix ingested a piece of her plastic toy at 1am. She was drooling, coughing, swallowing, licking and wouldn't sleep. I called BluePearl at 2:45am and they advised to bring her in. We arrived around 3am and my dog was seen immediately. The staff was very caring and acted quickly to relieve her pain. I thought the prices would be highly inflated due to the convenience of 24hr care but it ended up costing the same price as an emergency visit to any other vets office! My wife and I have had to bring our 3 year old Frenchie here twice in about a year and a half. Once at 3am and once this week around 3:00pm. He has disc issues for his back and at times can't move due to pain. I wish I could come here for our normal vet visits. We've have two different Drs. At 3am we had Dr Brady and recently we had Dr Johnson. They both were extremely thoughtful and thorough in their examinations. The techs both times were beyond caring and also extremely thorough. Dr Brady and Dr Johnson were both aligned in their messaging about the situation and were confident in their evaluation to the point where they said X-Rays would be a waste of our money. Often times going to a 24/7 pet hospital you think you will come out spending a fortune. That has not been my experience either time, both Dr Brady and Dr Johnson could have had us due multiple different costly procedures and both times they said it wasn't worth our money. We were presented options both times for routine care and additional care and what the cost would be for us to choose which we really appreciated. Kevin at the front desk late at night is one of the most kindest experiences we have ever encountered with our animal. We had a geriatric dog who was at the end of her time. He was so incredibly kind and informative. After charging a large sum of money for overnight care and testing, to have the vet fail to give us any sense of our sweet dog's prognosis while acknowledging the financial cost, proceeded to botch the euthanasia process and disappeared for almost 20 minutes. I found the vet standing in the middle of their work area doing nothing. That night has haunted us for over a year now and the company has chosen to ignore my two attempts to speak with either the BluePearl president or Mars Petcare CEO; I have the signed receipts showing where employees of their offices signed for the letters. While I did interact with a member of what they call "client relations" team after my first letter, they lacked empathy and when I asked to speak to someone above him twice I never received a response. After allowing some time to pass, I sent a follow up letter to the CEO and president detailing what happened and included the correspondence with their employee. I did not even receive an apology for what happened from the company. It tells you all you need to know about them - happy to take your money and walk away when things don't go well. The worst vet hospital ever. When it was time to part with our pet they were not compassionate, they were degrading, and rude. Called ahead about our dog and the situation we were having along with the personal cremation option we chose. After arriving and waiting for 20+mins we had to reexplaining our situation and our options. We were then rudely yelled at that our dog was suffering and then she was taken into the hospital without us. We then had to explain for the THIRD time what we wanted (private or comminual cremation etc) then pay while our dog was taken back. Blue Pearl of Brandon gets five stars from our family. We've been using them for many years now. They've been there for all of our dogs medical emergencies. They have performed specialized surgeries as well. One in particular for my male beagle who needed a medial patellar luxation repair back in 2018. The knee was getting worse and we had no other option. Dr. Bleyaert did a tremendous job repairing it. The recovery went smoothly and he was able to walk and run like a young pup after that. He has also seen Dr. Otte for numerous tests to monitor him for early Cushing's and liver disease. She has also taken great care of him. This last visit was for my female beagle. She's had chronic bronchitis, and has basically been going downhill ever since. She had all different antibiotics & medications, a tracheal wash, as well as inhalers to help her with the cough. She was stable for almost a year but then her cough started continually getting worse. It turned into bacterial pneumonia which was complicated by a collapsed lower airway. Her lungs just kept filling up with fluid despite everything our primary vet did for her. Blue Pearl confirmed our fears. The bacteria kept growing back due to scarred lung tissue. You can never get rid of it totally in that situation. She had a fever as well. She was given full oxygen and more antibiotics through IV. She started to get better and the fever was dropping, but then we got that dreaded call. She had made a turn for the worse. They said they could put her on a ventilator, but the prognosis was not good and we didn't want her to suffer. She couldn't even lift up her little head. Many people ask, "How do you know when it's time?" As many of us have experienced, you just know. It was time. Dr. Weeks and her wonderful group of technicians (I wish I could name them all) did everything they could on 3-27-2020. They are compassionate and thorough, and work like a well-oiled machine together. My husband was truly impressed. He was the one to go back and make the decision. It's a COVID-19 world that we live in now. I stayed home with the boy to keep him calm. I had said my goodbye just in case she didn't return, and I am so happy that I did that. Hubby made me feel a part of it every step of the way while he was there. I'm not going to get into the whole process, but I will say the entire staff got us all through a difficult time with such professionalism and dignity. We received a beautiful card from them this past week. It hits them hard too. I didn't have to be there to know that they truly care. I could feel it the entire time through phone calls and my husband's experiences. Just know that they will do everything they can to save your beloved fur baby. It is expensive, but it's like our own ER bills. We have pet insurance which saved us from the financial burden. I'm not going to get into the price because that's just what it costs. All I can say is that she was a part of our family. We're fortunate that we were working at home during this pandemic to see that she was in distress. Otherwise, it could have been so much worse. She's at peace now thanks to Blue Pearl. read more

BluePearl diagnosed my dog with end stage mitrial valve disease. They quoted a price for life saving drugs for my dog over 300% normal value to carry me over for five days until I could buy the prescriptions online. Online I could buy a months supply for the price BluePearl demanded. When I dared to question the price gouging , the tech said, "Sir, I don't make the prices...the Dr. will see you soon", as she closed the door in my face. The Dr. never came. I paid $400 for a consultation with a cardiologist, and I never spoke to the cardiologist. His report was relayed to me by the same person that closed the door in my face. Bring your beloved family member/pet to BluePearl, but just know they'll gouge you at least 300% the normal cost with the threat that if you don't pay, your beloved family member/pet could die. The Vet, the Doctor, the Staff were amazing so caring and so compassionate they made a very difficult time more tolerable. The absolute worst, most unprofessional vet clinic I have ever stepped foot in! We brought our little puppy in last Tuesday night and sat in a room for 40 minutes with no answers only to hear the male staff outside the door talk about their "conquests" from the night before. It took everything in my husband to not walk out that room and say something. We will be filing a formal complaint.
