Instead of just doing the bare minimum, it felt like he was caring for us and for our cat like she was his own. Today, it is hard to find competent and caring people who take pride in their work. I could not have expected more form a vet. Dr. Wes Parquette, called me prior to ultrasound to discuss symptoms ( I missed call due to some phone issue which also did not show vm until 2 hours later) Needless to say, Dr. Parquette called back 2 hours later, discussed issues on phone, and then proceeded with ultrasound. After that, he thoroughly, discussed Dexter's medical issues and gave us options. My wife is a non practicing medical doctor, trained overseas, English is not her native language and I am hard of hearing, even with hearing aids on, which distort voices. FORTUNATE THAT DR. PARQUETTE'S VOICE DELIVERY ENABLED ME AND MY WIFE TO UNDERSTOOD 98% OF WHAT HE WAS SAYING. IT WAS A CRITICAL SITUATION FOR MY BEST FRIEND DEXTER AND IT WAS PARAMOUNT THAT WE UNDERSTOOD DR PARQUETTE WHICH WE DID. REITERATING, COULD NOT HAVE ASKED FOR MORE FROM A DOCTOR, WHO WAS SUPERB OVERALL. The front desk staff was exceptional as well. A question from a non vet like myself. Why do some vets give multiple shots on same day eg at 15 weeks which caused a month of sickness and multiple vet visits, and most likely created long term problems, or prior to surgery to remove a cyst in ear where a vet in Springfield , Va. who gave at least 2 shots a week before the surgery, (I subsequently because of that cancelled surgery and went to different vet) . Given dog's negative reaction to hospitals due to his bad experiences at such, is it not better to simply do cost benefit analysis, given dog's visible shaking and attempts to go out under the door and get him out of hospital asap rather than "do the obligatory" shots which may not help , and clearly not a current priority. Or was it a case of get the $$ now , rather than risking not coming back for the shots after the surgery. And digressing a big again, today, I read, a second NFL player sentenced for dog fighting of over 15 years, ignoring his earlier conviction and failed state not imprisoning him, the first time, and his esq adding insult to injury claiming his $30,000 fine would deprive him of his medical needs, and his "conviction and loss of dogs , is enough punishment" paraphrasing, eg 190 dogs taken from him, all used for fighting and judge does not admonish the paid ''' p...e" esq claiming that the loss of dogs (taking away dogs for their safety) is tantamount to punishment. They have a checkin desk upon walking into the door. Our specialty vet(radiologist) and his team were so kind. They were patient and empathetic to my dog's plight. He explained every detail as we were going through the procedure. The techs were all very kind and helpful in moving our pup up and down the procedure table. Highly recommend coming here for speciality visits.

My dog goes to different practice because he was already on a plan when I adopted him and it made more sense to keep him on that plan, but my cats (& previous dogs) were patients here & we used to board our dogs here too. When they were good, I would constantly tell people to go here but after we had a hellish experience we shared our trauma & literally told people to stay far away from here! And we stayed far away from here! My good times here have been amazing & one of the vets saved my beautiful baby during the same hellish experience with the jerk of a vet who caused us to let go of our baby. But sadly the amazing vet moved and so I swore this place off! I needed a new vet and I really went down the rabbit hole of research and was actually brought right back here and I am so grateful that we found Dr. Candace Flynn! She is simply a dream and the most amazing, compassionate and caring vet I think I have ever met and my kitty is so comfortable with her it's pure love! Dr. Flynn, who deserves FIVE STARS+++, is also wonderful with her advice and guidance. She's very communicative and informative and just well-rounded with a holistic approach, but the amount of time and love she spends with your pet (and you) is priceless!!! They are a 24-hour emergency care, veterinary hospital, fully equipped, and fully staffed round the clock. They also have a separate, waiting room for dogs and cats to help ease the anxiety. They also have two sister hospitals in both Clifton and Arlington, Virginia. Yes, they are a bit pricier but you're inside the beltway & 15 minutes from DC so what do you expect?! I wish I would have caught it sooner for me to bypass some unneeded emotional damage. Once I finally did pick up on the signs I immediately looked for a nearby vet. But on a Sunday, there aren't many open. My choices were two emergency vets that were equal distances away. As you can see, I chose this one. On my way here, I was all in my emotions and almost bypassed the building. Luckily for me, I caught it at the last minute and whipped around. When I went in there was no hesitation about being seen. They are a digital establishment. Scan the QR code, fill in your information, and wait to be seen. I sat in the waiting room for what felt like an eternity, but we all feel that way in a time of need. Finally a vet tech came to see me and ask what was going on. I started to talk and only broke down instead. I was escorted in a room and they took my cat for a set of vitals. I was at that point where I thought she was attempting to cross that rainbow bridge. Instead, after the vitals and some talking to the vet, it was decided as to what was going on. I also want to thank them for being upfront with information. I was informed that they already know what it is and a course of treatment or I could spend a lot more money to do tests and come to the same conclusion. After a good cry I came to my senses and went with their suggested treatment. This was an emotionally exhausting day. Made a bit better by a good team at this place. My cat, upon returning home, was very lethargic because of the antibiotic and pain medication given. She was out of sorts for a bit, but back to normal within the timeframe quoted by this team.

The staff at Dogs and Cats Emergency & Specialty were amazing from the moment we walked in. They were extremely thorough while showing such care and concern for Duke. They explained what was happening, were transparent about the cost, and gave an honest assessment of the prognosis for our baby. Dr. S explained our options and gave us time to process everything. She answered all our questions and reassured us that there was no right or wrong way to go. Ultimately, we made the heartbreaking decision to let Duke go and she supported it, agreeing it was the kindest choice given his age, prognosis, and his current state. When I asked her what she would do for her own fur baby given the circumstances, Dr. S was transparent and told us she would do the same. That gave us a small bit of comfort that we weren't rushing into it prematurely. Dr. S gave us referrals to a few vets who could come to our home to help us with Duke's final care. We chose Lap of Love Veterinary Hospice, who were equally wonderful during such a horrible time. We appreciate all of the staff at Dogs and Cats Emergency & Specialty, from the folks at the front desk to the nurses and doctors. There were small things that I appreciated... when they brought our baby to us, they put down a plush blanket so he could be comfortable and not laying directly on the floor. Also, right before we left, one of the nurses even came in to say goodbye to Duke and tell him he was a sweet boy. She loved on him and that small gesture will always stick with me. I thank everyone for showing such love and support during one of the most difficult times in my family's life.
