My friends and I decided we wanted to try a low key bar outside of our usual go to locations. I'd only heard the name Velvet Gypsy before but I didn't have any clue of any of it's details. It's pretty small and I feel like it's easy to not notice from the street. There's only like 2 parking spots for the bar. But when you step inside, it feels so quaint and welcoming. The decor is so cutesy but still a place men wouldn't feel out of place at. Our bartender, i believe her name was Missy, was the sweetest and very easy to engage in conversation. At some point, her and my friend were experimenting with random ingredients to come up with a new tequila cocktail together. They have a board with the daily specials and I was kind of surprised to learn they happy happy hour dang near everyday from 2-8 and they close at 3am. If I wasn't worried about my liver, I could see myself becoming a regular there. All they're missing is food. read more

While parking is somewhat of a hassle for mist, I got lucky with an upfront parking spot upon arrival. My gf had to park down the street but it wasn't far. The entrance , design, menu and overall feel of the place is super chic and such a vibe. The staff were great, welcoming, quick and friendly. The menu was cute with all the themed cocktails and there are definitely places inside for little photo ops. Such an adorable spit! I live right down the street and for some reason, I have ever been untiil last weekend. It's such a cute vibe inside. A DJ showed up about 15min after we got there and he was AMAZING. We each had 2 cocktails that were delicious. She had an Espresso Martini, and I can"t remember my first drink. Oops. We then both had a Sun Card. It was also delicious. My friend and I are in our 40's, so we were definitely older than most of the crowd. I was totally ok with that though. It goes without saying that the parking is not easy here, but as long as you don't park at the vintage market or La Segunda AND you park without obstructing someone's driveway, this place is worth putting on your regular rotation. The vibe is always amazing, the bartenders make some of the best drinks in town and the crowd is a nice mix of ages and diversity. We came here as we were waiting on a table at a nearby restaurant. We weren't acknowledged when we walked in and only after our bartender was finished closing out tabs did she even come over. She was super unfriendly, no smile or anything. We asked what beers were on tap and she said "yuengling, bud light and a few IPAs" we asked her to repeat it and then she said there was also a seasonal ale. I asked what that was and all She said was a "brown ale". Nothing about the type or the breweries for the IPAs and seasonal ale which...they aren't all the same. Maybe to her they are, but to those of us who drink beer a bit more effort and information would be nice. Or heck. A beer list and then we don't have to bother her. Which, we clearly were. She seemed friendly with some other patrons. Not sure if they are regulars or what but we were pretty much ignored once we got our drinks. The atmosphere is cute. There are five benches that can seat maybe 3-4 people? And then the bar comfortably seats 12-15ish. The music was chill and it was decorated for Christmas which made it feel cozier. There were a few cocktails and mock tails listed on the wall but other than that no cocktail or alcohol list. I don't know if they get business outside of people waiting on a nearby local establishment but I won't be back. read more

This might be my favorite bar in Tampa. This is my kind of dive bar. It's very clean, good size, and friendly staff. I came here to meet friends to catch up. They have a drink menu, but I'm sure they can make whatever you want, it's a full bar. We went at 7pm and it was empty except for a few people. There was music playing, which I was very much into-old school hip hop with the occasional new hip hop. At 10pm a DJ started playing, who was very good, but we couldn't hear one another anymore so we decided to call it a night. I would most definitely return for the chill vibe, good music and delicious cocktails.
