I'm an avid honest reviewer, and this one is hard for me as I've had many great memories at The Dog Saloon. However, the service has gotten to a place where I can't get past it. I'm okay with waiting for drinks, I'm okay with rude bar tenders but the constant disrespect to woman ordering at the bar is outrageous. Horrible establishment. I ordered a beer and there was a bug inside the glass when I went to take a drink. I also noticed the bartenders/bouncers were extremely rude to everybody besides the people it seemed like they already knew. The female bartender that has been there for many years is so rude! I used to love this place until she became the main bartender and now trains the other much younger girls and sadly they follow her lead and are mostly rude themselves. They are not personal at all, act like they have never seen you in their life and tell you to pay before they will bring you a drink. I'm not sure if they thought we were underage or what. Middle aged guy behind the bar extremely rude to me and my friends. tipped good on first bill too so not sure what was going on. One of my friends tried the wrong door that wasn't the bathroom and he yelled at them across the entire bar. told him it was an accident and he started off and started openly talking trash to other workers in front of the bar and my friends. really went out of the way to be polite too very odd. Reviewing another dive bar (I'm on a roll with these!). Get there early if you're going to watch a football game because you might not find a seat otherwise. Same with parking - the lot is small and you may need to find another lot/side street to park if you get there after a game starts. Great cheap drinks and the bartenders have always been very kind. When they're busy it can be hard to grab a beverage between the barstools, but the staff always does their best to recognize you and help you. I have yet to try food here and will swing by on a more mellow afternoon, but overall I love the diveyness of this South Tampa classic. read more

Looking for a dive bar with darts, pool or foosball that has a decent crowd? This is your place. The Dog is another hole in the wall bar just outside of the soho area. The vibe is chill and the bartenders are awesome. This place definitely gets packed on a Friday or Saturday night, but even when it's packed you are able to carry on conversations and can find a table or booth to sit at. They also have pretty decent bar food. I like the chicken fingers, corn nuggets and the buffalo fingers. This is definitely a hidden gem in Tampa. Typical dive bar atmosphere! They have two pool tables and a foosball table. The crowd was honestly so versatile and varied in age. On one hand there was a cute older couple playing on the foosball table and on the other side there was a group of millennials playing on one of the pool tables. This place was interesting to say the least. The bartenders were dressed in lingerie which threw me for a loop. We stayed and had a couple of cocktails after realizing that aside from the bartenders, I was the only woman in the building. Me & my husband enjoyed the drinks though. reasonably priced. I work in the area and had wanted to try this place for a while. I went on a Friday evening with some coworkers after work and was shocked at the atmosphere. My coworkers, the bartender, and myself were the only women in the establishment. We sat down and I reviewed the menu while my coworkers began ordering. When I went up to the bar I ordered the chicken tenders appetizer, a basket of fries, and a sprite. The bartender immediately asked for my ID which I gave her with no problem. She looked it over and then told me I had to be 21 to be inside the establishment. I went back to my table and made my group aware that I had to leave. One of my coworkers went back to try and find a way for me to stay but there was nothing that could be done. I left the establishment unsettled by the situation and have been thinking it over for days. Considering I will be 21 next month and didn't attempt to order alcohol I do not understand why I was being carded in the first place! I have been to other establishments similar to this, ordered the same thing, and had no issue. I looked online for any notated age restrictions but couldn't find anything. I even asked my parents about it and they were confused as well. I couldn't think of any reason I was carded and not served. Unfortunately I am beginning to wonder if racism played a part in this as I was the only black person in the establishment. I am truly hoping that isn't the case but will likely not return in a month when I turn 21 to test the theory. UPDATE! After messaging the owners on Facebook I am now aware that there is an age restriction and a notification of it on the door. The message is significantly smaller than the other text and placed near the bottom so it's easy to miss. I am still unsettled at the fact that I was the only one in my group who was asked to show ID while ordering however there was no obvious ill intent on the business's behalf. Might I suggest hiring someone to check IDs at the door or making multiple large signs about the requirements? In any case I will not be coming back next month. What a great dive bar! It's a pretty typical dive bar as far as food, drinks, etc. but what puts this place over the top is the great service and cool vibe. The wing sauce is actually exceptional. Highly recommend if you want to do something laid back! read more

A little rough around the edges, but who cares? Came here to watch the Super Bowl. From the outside, it looks like a total biker bar. Inside, typical dive bar. They had a few high top tables, and a row of small booths. Each booth had a TV, which is nice. The bartender was quick and friendly, and the wings were pretty darn good. I got the "hot," which were great to me. However, they left my friend in tears. I think he has was trying to be brave. I recommend most people to start at medium, and then ask for a monkey dish of hot on the side. Seriously, this place is reasonably priced, and even though it was a game night, it wasn't crazy packed. read more

This place has gone a little down hill over the years I've been coming here. Food is still good. Large portions. But it takes forever for it to come out. I'm sitting here right now on game one of the Stanley cup finals waiting for my chicken fingers that were ordered 40 mins ago, totally appauled that there are close to two hundred people here on a night where you know it's going to be packed. This place is walking distance for me and my roommate and we love it! It's a chill sports bar with good drinks and food...not sure what else you could want! All our nights out usually end up here. Any of the apps are good but I would recommend the nachos, wings, and my favorite, corn nuggets (they give you a massive basket for $6 which is amazing). The booths have their own TV's which is cool. This is an absolutely great neighborhood/sports bar. I bought my house in part since it is only a block away. Bartenders are fun and always pleasant. My favorite drink usually gets to the bar before I get in the seat. Matt is an exceptional owner. Happy hours are a dollar off everything from 4 to 7. The food is great but it is more a bar than a restaurant with only a small kitchen. If you are looking for fast service when the place is packed you are going to be disappointed. During the typical happy hour the food comes out in a timely manner and it is excellent, try the wings. read more

Red dog is a wonderful bar, filled with tons of tvs, a touch tunes jukebox as well as amazing drink specials. $1 off of everything during happy hour is tough to beat! I especially love going on Friday nights to see the smiling faces of Tiffany and Megan behind the bar. Beautiful AND professional, what a great combo from the staff at The Dog!!
