Stopped by Venice Tavern while walking around town. It's a truly uplifting local gem. Everyone was incredibly warm and the bar is steeped in fascinating history. So typically I wouldn't even write a review for a bar like this because if you look up the definition of dive bar then you pretty much have it. We were looking to grab a drink nearby but wasn't able to get a seat so we wandered off in search of something different and stumbled upon this place. You can tell everyone else knew each other and we were the clear outsiders. Between a regular playing hai favorites on the jukebox, the pool table never being empty and folks sitting at the slots the place was full of energy. The bartender was really personable and had a heavy hand so drinks were great and cheap. They are cash only and don't run tabs so be prepared but enjoy. read more

What a nice friendly place to go for lunch. I ordered the Bobby Hull burger without really looking at the description. OMG, that thing was gigantic. It had four patties, two slices of bacon, fried egg and tons of cheese. It was one of the best burgers I've had in a long time. The staff is very friendly and always kept my drink full. They upgraded to an electronic juke box, but before then, it was your standard JukeBox. They have a pool table and questionable bathrooms, but $3 craft beers all day, everyday. Heading down the stairs and into the basement-situated bar, it feels a bit like going through a time warp of 50-60 years, but with craft beer and modern gaming machines and slightly more modern jukebox added! This bar was the first one I ever went to in Baltimore, when some new local friends decided to introduce me to it. This bar defines divey - it's in a dark basement below an organic local produce store. It was super cheap and full of locals who seem to frequent this place on a regular basis.
