Love everything about this bar and area! If you're worried about parking, don't be. There is street parking available and a parking lot across the street! This little corner of the city is definitely alive at night with multiple bars and restaurants so walking to and from your car feels safe and comfortable. Depending on what time you go to the Coral Wig, you might get a seat at the bar, you might get lucky enough for their adorable cozy tables or you might have to stand and wait. My friend and I got the rudest bar crew either of us had experienced in a while. We sat at the bar and the bartender made it clear how much our presence was an inconvenience to her. To boot, she denied a small drink modification for my (female) friend (to make it less sweet.) I could see the dim lighting and low ceiling feeing either cozy or cramped for date night, depending on your style. What a vibe! Came here for a night cap and the experience is so cool! It's a bar inside of a historic hotel. The place is lined with mirrors and has a small stage for pictures and dancing in the corner. Everything is served seated and the whole lounge aesthetic is done very well! The cocktails are just as if not better! Definitely a good place to get a creative drink served with all the embellishments! Came here on a date a few weeks ago. The spot had a nice ambiance and the energy was lovely. A bit too lively though, because there was no where to sit. We were able to get seating outside though, just make sure to bundle up this time of year cause there are no heaters. The drinks were decent, but they didn't knock my socks off. It was sweet, almost dessert-like, similar to a White Russian but with an earthy flavor, if that makes sense. My friend ordered a lemon drop, but it was not good. It was so dark that we couldn't even see the menu. It's only drinks. No food, but there are nearby options. My reason for this 3-star review is the confusion about how service works. We sat at a table, but no sever came up to us. Went to the bar to place an oder. While we sat at the table, we had observed patrons being brought their drinks. Not the case for us. No televisions here - the company you keep and the quality of the cocktails is what drives your experience at Coral Wig. The cocktail menu is affordable and varied, the bartenders know their craft, and the atmosphere is chill, dark, yet warm in the glow of candlelight. I enjoyed what I would consider to be one of the top five cocktails I have ever had: The Venus Sunray, which consisted of Rhum Agricole (a French Caribbean rum), Chartreuse, pineapple, cardamom, and ginger flavors, double shaken and double strained, and served in an elegant coupe glass. The potion was perfectly balanced between sweet, sour, savory, and boozy. Enjoying the vibes here so much, my friend and I remained for a second round, where I tested the bartender's skill with a standard cocktail: The official drink of Martinique - The Ti'Punch. It was perfectly made with expressed lime, cane syrup, and more of the Agricole Rum, and it's correct presentation put this bar on an S-tier list for me. Although the concept is not deemed tiki, the decor, the music, and atmosphere overall gives an elevated tiki bar with a hint of speakeasy without the fluff, the drinks are well crafted, the staff is knowledgeable and attentive even at times when the bar is swamped. The space holds about 35 to 40 folks but if you're familiar with Clavel, W.C. Harlan, you'll know what type of experience to expect from the group that has brought you those amazing gems. Although the bar can get packed at times, typically turnover is quick. I'm sure if they sold food or offered little bites in the space people would never leave and that just says a lot about the location. read more

The Coral Wig is a brand new cocktail bar located in the alley behind the also new(ish) Hotel Ulysses. The owners are the same folks behind WC Harlan, Fadensonnen, and Clavel so you know it's going to be good. The inside is dimly lit with an upscale, tiki vibe. The bar is made of bamboo, there's cool beaded curtains in the hallway to the bathroom, and chill jazz music playing in the background. All the drinks definitely follow the upscale tiki theme. Many of them are rum based with a few tequila and gin options sprinkled in. I opted for the Coral Wig sour, their take on a pisco sour. I thought it was delicious! A little sweeter than a traditional pisco sour but still great. My date got the banana hammock, a banana flavored margarita. We were both pleasantly surprised that the banana flavor wasn't super overwhelming or artificial tasting. It really tasted like someone infused legit banana into some kind of liqueur or syrup. Service was a bit slow at times but this spot is still new and definitely was popping for a Tuesday night. The space is small so it's easy for the volume to get pretty loud. We actually decided to enjoy the rest of our drinks outside on the small patio for this reason. The patio has a nice Parisian feel to it. Sometimes tiki drinks are too sweet for me but seeing how they made such a balanced drink with something like banana, made me want to try more from the menu. read more

We stepped into The Coral Wig on a Wednesday night and had a great time. The place as dark as you might imagine if you've been to WC Harlan but it's far more spacious. It's also far cooler so bring a sweater or jacket if you run cold. As for the drinks, we had a Pink Snapper a Pray for Rain. The consensus was that the Pink Snapper was the highlight but the Pray for Rain wasn't unenjoyable. Sit at the bar and watch the bartenders--it's quite the show! Conveniently located at the side of the hotel it's a one stop shop if you go to the hotel. It's owned by Lane Harlan the brain behind WC Harlan and Fadensonnen and Clavel. It's a tiki Thai inspired bar with more tropical drinks. My favorite is the carrot bay cocktail (they use a very special carrot liquor) or the wig sour (their take on the whiskey sour). You order at the bar which is annoying but you get used to it there's bit table service but if you sit at the bar the bartenders will give you all the tips into getting a great cocktail. It can be hard to find if you don't know where you should be looking -- so here's a tip - when you are facing the hotel from the street head right and it will be on the corner of the building. The atmosphere is on the dark and intimate side, offering both bar and table seating. I opted for a seat at the bar. Typically you can learn a lot about the place and the drinks when sitting at the bar but the connection with the bartenders here was lacking. It seems they're mainly focused on making the drinks. This is totally acceptable but worth noting if you like to have a conversation with the bartenders. As for the drinks, I had a bit of a mixed experience. I tried the Carrot Bay and Estate Martini. The Estate Martini was great and well balanced with a perfect blend of flavors. I would recommend ordering it. The Carrot Bay cocktail on the other hand didn't quite hit the mark. It's clear they put effort into their concoctions, but Carrot Bay was a miss in my opinion. The sherry overpowered the drink and the other flavors didn't come through. The bar would make a great spot for a date night or for sipping a pre or post-dinner cocktail. Just be aware that it's a fairly small venue, so finding a seat during peak hours might be a challenge. I have been attempting to go to the coral wig for months and after a long attempted wait I was able to last Saturday. It is tucked on the side of hotel Ulysses and offers a moody / intimate vibe. The menu was extremely interesting and offered lots of fresh ingredients that were used to make the cocktails. The mixologist was really helpful with guiding me through the menu. Simply wow! The drinks were incredible! Backed with lots of flavor and unexpected surprises. I have been to all the bars at Ulysses and this one to me has the best drinks. Overall 10/10!
