I've been coming to Vent for a few years now and have been quite happy overall. When I first signed up I had looked into multiple other gyms in the area and had settled on Vent based on location, cost, and the fact that they have a pool. I also really appreciate the first responder discount they offer. All of the staff has always been pleasant and helpful. The equipment options are good and the new updated treadmills are great. I have the highest level membership because I also enjoy taking the different HIIT classes in their small studio. The classes are well run, a great workout, and help me to push myself. Another perk that I enjoy are the hydro massage beds, which are a great way to end my workouts. I'm happy with my decision to join here and would recommend it to any one looking for a nice, pleasant gym atmosphere. read more

As an avid fitness person and a person that works with small businesses across NYS and the country. This seems like a management issue, lack of understanding your customers and also a lack of urgency to improve, due to little competition in the Capital Region. The staff are helpful when you have a question, the main positive in this review. The focus is usually on supporting Zumba and E³ classes. I've been a member at Vent Fitness Guilderland for some time, and while the facility has potential, there are several areas that need serious attention to improve member experience and safety. First and foremost, the spin studio is in disrepair, with many of the spin bikes either broken or malfunctioning.On top of that, the main screen in the studio frequently doesn't work or malfunctions, which disrupts instruction and the flow of class. Between the unreliable bikes and faulty equipment, spin classes are far less effective than they should be. This significantly impacts the quality of spin classes, as it's difficult to participate when bikes aren't functioning or give out mid-class. Regular maintenance or replacement of these bikes should be a priority. For this review 6 bikes didn't work or have screens and 5 were already missing. Another major concern is the women's locker room carpeting.Carpet in such a space is not sanitary and makes regular cleaning and odor control difficult. Having carpet in a space regularly used by swimmers and wet foot traffic is unsanitary and impractical. A non-absorbent flooring option would be far more hygienic and easier to maintain. Ventilation issues in the group fitness rooms are another recurring problem. Poor airflow combined with noticeable dust buildup on ceilings and fans points to a need for deep cleaning and consistent HVAC maintenance. This isn't just about comfort, it's about health. Recent investment in cardio equipment seems disconnected from actual member usage and needs. It would've been more effective to survey the community before such a large purchase and floor redesign by a professional. Meanwhile, more practical improvements, like installing mirrors in the Move Studio, continue to be overlooked. Mirrors are not just for aesthetics and understand can be costly, but there are many blowout/closing sales of other gyms and businesses where a purchase can be made. They're a crucial tool for self-correction and safety during yoga, pilates, and cardio classes. There are also some layout choices that feel out of step with standard gym practices. For instance, relocating Smith machines, squat racks, and cable machines away from mirrors makes it harder to monitor form during heavy lifts. Additionally, landmines placed in high-traffic walkways pose safety hazards. A better layout could greatly enhance both function and safety. 1. Prioritize member flow and accessibility 2. Align equipment placement with function 3. Balance equipment based on usage data 4. Create clear, defined zones 5. Plan for safety and compliance 6. Encourage good gym etiquette Standard cleanliness is another area that needs improvement. Routine cleaning schedules should be enforced more consistently across all workout areas, not just high-visibility zones. Something as simple as floor markings for gym etiquette, such as not lifting directly in front of free weight racks, could help promote a more respectful and efficient use of space. Keeping lifting space clear in front of the dumbbell racks, would go a long way in improving member experience and flow. Another growing concern is the removal or restriction of essential equipment. Many useful tools, such as jump ropes, resistance bands, stretching accessories, plyo/step-up boxes, and belt walls, are either completely unavailable, locked up, or only accessible during group fitness classes. This limits members' ability to do complete, well-rounded workouts on their own time. A full-service gym should provide access to basic functional training and mobility tools, not restrict them without clear justification. Luckily, I have my own equipment at home, but lugging items into the gym is not always fun and/or practical. Overall, Vent Fitness Guilderland has a solid foundation but could listen to its members more, I see from many of the recent reviews it is getting worse, I have also made my voice heard, to staff many times. Prioritize maintenance, hygiene, and practical layout decisions. With some thoughtful changes, this could be an exceptional facility. We looked at the Y, J, Planet, and Vent, and decided to go to Vent based on the Sauna, pool availability, choice of equipment, quality of equipment, and price. They have discounts for state employees, first responders, military, and several others. Access is determined by a fob bracelet, and different levels include different rooms and areas. The basic level excludes the pool area, the medium level includes the pool area and gym, and the top level includes some specialized equipment and rooms. Service has been top notch, and it's well explained that the contract is for a year. They also have the most generous guest policy out of any of the places mentioned. Facilities are clean and well maintained, and the showers and locker rooms are some of the best I've used. read more

Updated review. Nov-Dec 2022. Based on using treadmill and elliptical, weight machines, and sauna. A very good gym - recommend it. Lots of equipment, minor out of service. I appreciate the staff. Cleaning supplies in the gym are stocked. There are some reminders it is not a private club, not expensive; like guys loudly clearing their sinuses in the shower, some quirky users of the pool and locker room, for the only time I recall it looks like somebody tore off a toilet door. Basketball court availability times misrepresented to prospective members and subject to change without notice. I've checked the posted schedule multiple times and had gym employed personal trainers tell me that they had the entire court reserved. The rating is because you have to pay $40/month for access to the bball court vs. $20/mo for regular membership, and when I asked to switch memberships to the basic $20 one without "gym access" (because the gym is almost always being used by these private trainers who rent it out) I was told it would be for an additional year AND I would have to pay the $50 new member fee again. They make it very difficult to cancel or change memberships. When it rains, the fitness area roof leaks badly to the point where there are multiple buckets on the floor and benches/machines are still getting wet. Otherwise a very decent gym: clean gear, well ventilated. Pretty busy but rarely to the point that you'll have to wait longer than 10 minutes for a given piece of equipment. Gear is usually fully functional. Recently added a 3rd squat rack which is a plus. read more

SCAM SCAM SCAM SCAM !!!!! While the equipment at Vent Gym is decent, Canceling your membership at Vent Gym is a real hassle. Not only is the process really complicated, but it also costs a lot - members have to pay a whopping $79 cancellation fee. This fee applies no matter why you want to cancel, which feels unfair to unhappy members. Once you're signed up, it feels like a trap - it's hard to leave without paying up. It's not as easy as joining, and it's frustrating to feel stuck in a membership you don't want. I strongly suggest thinking twice before signing up for Vent Gym, because getting out can be a nightmare. I moved from New York to Texas in April, but Vent Fitness is still charging me. I requested to cancel my membership in April, but they ignored my request and continue to charge me every month. Their customer service is one of the worst in the world. When you call customer care, they provide you with an email address to send your concerns. If you email them, you receive an automatic reply stating that you will get a response in seven business days, but it usually takes two weeks. They often reply asking for additional proof or information, which extends the conversation. If you reply, it takes another two weeks to get a response, while their payments team continues to charge the amount in the meantime. read more

I love this gym! Bathrooms are always clean and staff is helpful and friendly. The only reason I give it 4 starts and not 5 because I've witnessed too many gross things go on in that pool I don't want my body in it ever again. Example people swimming wearing their sweaty disgusting gloves that they worked out in IN the pool and people jumping in the pool directly after being in the steam room full on covered in beads of sweat. This week we got a call from a collection person (maybe even at Vent) who was charging us for not renewing the cancellation to our membership. In a year when our fitness industry throughout NY and other states like CA was practically destroyed during Covid I was so thankful to find the Vent Fitness facility had not only survived but was thriving with enthusiastic members again. I have frequented the Guilderland location for over two decades whenever I visit family back in the capital district. Vent has continually progressed over the years with offerings of new equipment and services. Since Covid, they have incorporated extensive cleaning protocols of equipment for which the members have become active participants. And while many companies and businesses in the Capital District have lacked and failed with customer service since opening up after Covid, (sometimes for lack of employees), Vent Guilderland has not succumbed to this. In the 21 years I have worked in the fitness industry in Los Angles and Southern CA, some of which has been at Flagship locations for North America, I pay attention to customer service. The Vent team has a stellar cast of employees. I particularly found the interaction with Ben Garcia to not only be stand out but to be a case study of what needs to happen post covid to engage old members and encourage new ones to come in. Sustained and focused eye contact is a powerful tool for communicating conviction and confidence with members and Ben I can tell is a natural. His genuine and sincere interest in members and passion for what he does displays his commitment to exceptionalism and would easily place him a position in West Los Angeles or Beverly Hills top fitness facilities. Ben also remembered who I was after my first couple days back and took accountability for an issue that was not necessarily anyone's fault but had taken up a bit of my time. (Seems an old neighbor I use to have is in their system with a first name and last name, equivalent to my first name and middle name). And a shout out to the maintenance and facilities manager for finding something that I had left there and securing it in a safe place. It's a huge relief to know this club puts their members first without question both pre and post Covid. read more

Bunch of crooks. First, they doubled the rates on the college kids in Albany then when you try and cancel, they wait 2 weeks before they send confirmation email stating you have cancelled so they can get an extra $21.99 from these poor college kids. Absolutely pathetic manager Rob who gets off overcharging these kids. The gym itself isn't worth $10 a month let alone $21.99. I will be filing a formal complaint with the better business bureau about their billing practices and how they have probably been doing this to numerous college students and its time they don't get away with it anymore!!!! read more

At Vent Fitness, fine print will overrule common-sense customer service every day as long as they can continue to charge that monthly fee. Back in June I moved out of the state. At that time, while in the midst of unpacking my house, wrangling a couple of small children, working, establishing residency (hello DMV), and needing to update all of my accounts, I went online to see how to cancel my Vent Fitness membership, since I no longer lived near one. Oh, and also, I hadn't checked into a club since January 16 because my life was chaos. When I looked at my account information (in June), I saw my one-year membership began on July 1 of the previous year, and then I saw "Auto Renew: None." Foolishly, I thought this meant my membership would not automatically renew. Apparently what it actually meant was "you bet your flabby ass we're going to automatically renew your membership without even a phone call to confirm you want it even though you haven't checked into the club since January 16, 2017." The other day I realized I was not only still being charged every month but also that I got an annual fee charged to me as well. I sent a cancellation request as well as a request to refund the last month's charge and the annual fee. They granted my cancellation based on my move but refused to reimburse the annual fee or the last month's charge. Because, as the person I communicated with told me repeatedly, if I would just read my original signed agreement, after a year the membership goes month-to-month. However, in the craziness of moving, I did not fish out my original agreement and read it but instead went online to try to figure out how to cancel my account and was confused by [sarcasm] such ambiguous words as "Auto Renew: None." [/sarcasm] "But 'Auto Renew: None!'" I said. "Fine print," they said. "I haven't even been there since January," I said. "Fine print," they said. "Okay," I said. "I will be sure to note your adherence to fine print in the face of common-sense customer service and ability to adapt to individual situations when I post about this online." The automatic withdrawels stopped but Now bill collectors calling me that they charged me for another full year. The gym is kept clean and the staff that I have interacted with so far have been very kind and helpful with any questions that I have. The equipment for the most part seems to be kept in decent condition with the a few exceptions. It is very clear some of the equipment is older, when you need to adjust for height, some of them don't move or is very hard to move and have a lot of rust. The past two weeks I noticed more and more equipment being broken and are down for longer periods of time than I am used to seeing them. Hopefully that changes when it's not crazy holiday times. I've only been a member for about 2.5 months but I am happy with my VENT experience thus far. read more

I have been a member for a very long time, and things are not good here. They have lost spinning instructors without replacing them and most of the weekend spinning classes have you wait listed. I have tried to take virtual classes on Saturday early, but you have to go and get a manager to start the class as they never just begin on time. What exactly am I paying for??? read more

Go to another gym. Don't waste your money !!! This gym may look nice (renovations) but it is a factory that in the greed to make huge profits overbooks memberships and does not have the equipment to adequately serve the number of members it packs in during peek times. The wait for equipment; benches, weights, mats and machines is often so long it makes it hard to get in a full workout unless you have hours. It is very frustrating. And in even worse, the management does not care at all. The customer service is terrible. They only want your money and it is impossible to break your contract from the minute you sign, no matter the circumstances. read more

Vent fitness engages in deceptive business practices. Their customer services policy is to promise no contract enrollment but that is not true. There are much better choices in the capital district than this company. The manager was uncaring and rude and said you signed the agreement and basically told me to fuck off. When I requested to cancel the membership that supposedly was month by month, this was an out and out lie. My account was charged a $49 annual fee and another month of membership. It's all about the money and nothing about the member. They should be really proud of their business practices. read more

I love the aquatic fitness classes, but a very militant, aggressive manager named NIKO is ruining the culture. And most of the employees either hide or are reluctant to help. That's a hell of a renovation, Vent. I've been a member of the local Vent gyms since before they were Vent, back when they were still Gold's. Guilderland was an interesting location of the local chain, because it always seemed like a bit of a neglected dump compared to the other locations. It is closest to where I work now, but I never really cared to go here. I'd typically drive out of my way after work to go to the Vent in Clifton Park. As I've gathered, the owners of these gyms transitioned from the Gold's franchise to their own brand, Vent, in order to go in a different direction with their gyms. One significant goal of this is to improve and modernize their facilities. If that is indeed one of their goals, I'd say they were overwhelmingly successful with the renovations on this location. Don't get me wrong: The other Vent locations in the area are great gyms as well. They're run by excellent management and staff. The Guilderland Vent impressed the hell out of me, though. The gym itself looks amazing. They went with a very good layout and appearance. The equipment is all new and kicks ass. I especially like the bikes they have on the main floor in the cardio area. The staff seems just as excited about the changes as the members, which is always good. There's clearly a renewed effort to improve the quality of service that they provide, and they are certainly following through on it. If they make the same changes they made in Guilderland to the other three locations, it'll be pretty much impossible to top Vent. If you're looking for a gym in the Capital Region, Vent -- especially the Guilderland Vent -- is where you need to go. read more

During the pandemic they closed down. After wards they started back up and I received no notification about it. Suddenly I received a call stating that my balance was hundreds of dollars in debt. Although I had not utilized the gym since before the pandemic. The fact that I started accruing debt with them without them reaching out to me is grossly offensive. I would like to start out by saying that I have been a member for a few years and was very pleased with the classes and instructors (who are all great!). Here is my issue...I was looking for swim lessons for my grandson and I thought "Vent", as I am a member and they have a pool at the Guilderland location. Called to inquire and all sounded good. They could offer 10 consistent 1 hour weekly lessons at a reasonable time (after work/school) for a child. Payment was required and immediately processed while on the phone. Well....our first instructor was very nice but unreliable. Was late to the first lesson, forgot her equipment, cancelled another, changed the days/times of lessons last minute, second lesson only 45 minutes as her next client showed up early and seemed very distracted with her personal issues. I received a phone call that she was let go by Vent for emergency reasons. A new instructor would be in contact. A few weeks went by, when I had to reach out as I heard nothing. This instructor is also nice, but has a school schedule that seems to come first and cannot accommodate a consistent day/time for lessons. They are all over the place, she did not enter the water with the child during lesson and another class was taking place during a time she set up. Again, I find that I have to reach out to set up a lesson. I did ask the Manager to begin the 10 lessons from the start with new instructor and disregard the first 2. He reluctantly said ok, but who knows if that is what will happen. It is now going on 4 months since initial contact and have only had 4 not so good lessons. It has been very frustrating and unsettling for the child to have 2 different instructors with lapses in between each lesson. During the 4th lesson the instructor mentioned she would speak with the manager about a refund. Three weeks have gone by and we have heard nothing regarding a refund or even to schedule another lesson. Very disappointed with the way this has been handled. Therefore, I will now be seeking a refund for the $240 paid for these swim lessons, as I have already enrolled my grandson in another program elsewhere and am excited to have him learn to swim there, which has been my goal from the start. read more

Spent too much time and effort turning establishment into a glamour gym. Horrible staff, that often have the lowest IQs known to mankind... In addition, canceling a membership proved to be too hard of a task for them (from front door staff to non-existent managers and "assistant managers" who only have time for themselves). The renovations are nice, but they lost their touch after their transformation. Overcrowded and overpriced for the quality gym provided. Bring back the original Gold's Gym. I'll take the lunk alert over this downgrade the Lia Group has provided. read more

This is probably the gym with the worst customer service I've ever received. Opened a level three membership with them for about two-three months and then cancelled because I was moving(which when I signed up was told I could cancel with no problem if it relates to change of location issues). First of all, it took them 2 months to cancel my membership so I was basically paying for a gym that I wasn't going to and then when I asked for a refund they said they would refund me a month's payment....okay cool. It's about to be 3-4 months since I've cancelled it and I have yet to receive a refund. When I call they always tell me the same thing, "okay mam I put in a refund for you, you should see it in the next days". The worst customer service ever! read more

I was a member a Vent in Guilderland for about three years. When my son was born I no longer had the time to workout, he was born with a cleft lip and pallet.i waited until my contract was up and called to say I no longer wanted to be a member.they said I had to go to some web site to quit. The web site did not work, it kept freezing. So I went in to the club and said I would like to quit, some worker said I had to call some team who handles this, "bullshit"so I left.then I called and asked to speak to a manager and asked him to stop taking money out of my account. He did not. I had to call my bank and cancel my card which is a huge pain in aas. I gave it the two starts because the gym itself is truly amazing with plenty of amenities !!!! But who hired the employees , the are the most unhelpful , aloof , and rude gym employees I have met. I am visiting from San Diego and just wanted a few days at this gym , the "kid" at the front desk barely moved his mouth to guide me and help me! I felt like I was bothering him! 1st time to the gym he hands me a class receipt and that was that, I had to ask him well where do I go?!!!!!! Owners really need to fine tune their staff!!! vent fitness is 1 of the best gyms I think there is. The renovation to the place was amazing hats off to all the construction workers that worked on the place they where the best. I cant say the same for some of the employees The way the club is run the music at times is to loud and its offensive. I mean I was in the steam room and I had to watch 1 of the male employees dance his heart out?? while I was trying to relax in the steam room I was offended to say the least!!! If the gym had a church like setting meaning no music I personally think that the place would do twice the amount of business!! If you want to dance to music go to a night club??? This gym is one of a group of gyms with several locations. They formerly had the Golds Gym branding. Although the Latham and Niskayuna gyms aren't too bad, the Guilderland location is bad news. They tell you that they're undergoing renovation and expansion, but it's been that way for years! They conduct training classes right in the aisles between weight machines and yell at you if you mistakenly wander into their path. The whole place is dingey with torn carpeting and broken bathroom fixtures. I called the main desk once during bad weather to see if they were open and received a snippy reply. Can't wait until my contract expires so that I can go to a gym that will appreciate my business. Update 4/8/15 - I'm still a member of this gym chain, lol. Lack of motivation to switch and find another gym, but I'm kind of glad I stayed. They did a great job of renovating the Guilderland location, so I'm upgrading the rating to 3 stars. The facilities are beautiful, but unfortunately they didn't get it quite right. There must be at least 75 treadmills, but only two flat benches for weight training. I had to wait to use a bench in a gym that had barely a few people working out. They're obviously catering to the casual gym user who wants to hop on a treadmill after work and not people who actually want to condition their bodies and build some muscle. To their credit, they updated and replaced a lot of the weight machines with newer machines. Nevertheless they removed some of my favorite machines. I was working out one day and wanted to work calves, an important and often overlooked muscle, as anyone who has seen a huge bodybuilder with spindly legs can testify. There was no calf machine in the place as they had been removed! When I asked one of the staff where the calf machines were, he wouldn't answer the question and told me to use the quad machine instead. As other reviewers have pointed out, the loud music is offensive. Just give me a quiet gym with plenty of benches, free weights and well maintained machines, and don't try to be a disco. read more

I enjoy the Guilderland pool/ facility. Barb and Jason are amazing instructors and that is the main reason that I have my membership. The staff in that facility has been helpful and it's truly worth the drive from Niskayuna. I give those two people a 5 star. read more

Was very happy with staff and gym whenever I used the service. What made me very unhappy was the fact that they never tell you that if you want to cancel the membership you have to pay $79.00. Also one time a year apparently you are charged a "gym" fee for $49.00 and no one ever told me that. When I called to ask about it they said sorry nothing they could do. This is completely not ok. They should make it very clear that there are HIDDEN fees that they don't discuss previous to joining. I'll never tell anyone I know to get a membership from them. I'd rather tell them to go to a competitor. read more

I have been a vent fitness member for a long time. It sucks to say that the vent fitness family timings are very weird (12pm - 2pm). or I should say anti-families. 12pm to 2pm is really the time when kids have lunch or take naps. This discourages family fitness times. Not sure who came up with these timings. I would like to see this change to something more convenient to families. Probably to something line 3pm to 5pm or 6pm. read more

Although the gym is OK, the membership is NOT! To enroll, one needs to give a credit card. One will get since charged automatically by month and by autorenewal. This is not a problem. But it does not allow you to cancel membership. There is no staff or phone number one can reach. One is always directed to a website, which asks you to submit proof of moving or disability. In short, once in, stuck forever. The business strategy is predatory. read more

Nice gym but definitely lacking on squat racks, there is only one free weight squat rack and people use it all the time for exercises that don't require a squat rack. With how many extra treadmills vent contains that nobody uses except as barriers between two people running, I wish they would put some of that space towards extra squat racks. read more

1 star because 0 is not accepted by yelp. so i signed up for level 1 membership on 24 april 2017 by paying $100 membership fee and $20 monthly.because i am looking for employment, before signing up i enquired about cancellation if i relocate.i was said that they will cancel for free and $100 membership fee will be refunded if moving more than 20 miles from location with valid proof. finally the day came 30 may 2017 and i was told by another staff member that you will be getting back $75 and i was like ok even thats not what they told earlier. now for cancellation , i need to go online and submit a request along with proof that i was moving and i submitted and its accepted. real story starts here, i didn't get any refund (1 june 2017) and was told that you cannot get because you cancelled and you should be lucky because we cancelled for free.one person who claims himself as manager of this facility and cannot give refund under any circumstances.and said that you should take so and so training sessions and so on and even if you do that, you will get credit in their app to buy their drinks and smoothies. even if you cancel right away, you are only charged $79 for cancellation and remaining amount will be refunded.i didn't even get that and he talked as if i was lucky that they cancelled it.i know many people who got theirs cancelled with full refund for no other reason and people who do it with valid reason gets into trouble for believing in them. final story is i didn't even get a penny of $100 which they told will be fully refunded initially by one employee, $75 by another employee and go fuck yourself by another one. 1) Every employee acts as if they are ceo telling their own polices and rules. 2) Don't get into contract and even if you want to cancel for genuine reason and they initially told you that you will get full refund, you may or may not depends of your luck and karma in your previous birth. 3) Expensive as fuck.i paid $120 for a month with basic level1 membership. Nice gym but their hours suck. They close at 10 PM on Friday and out of nowhere they started closing early at 6 PM on weekends because they had "summer hours". I feel that was a little dishonest considering I've been a member for several years and my contract said close at 11p on weekdays and 7p in weekend. None of this summer bullshit. The other thing I hate is that the cleaning crew start cleaning hours before they close. So the loud sound of vacuum cleaners is constant and the cleaners are always up your ass. There's one particular woman who is savage. she'll literally reach around you when you're on a machine to pick up something or slam her vacuum cleaner into a machine you're working on. read more
