I'm disappointed to be writing this review, as I have previously obtained vehicle loans without issue from Jennifer at the River Park VCCU branch and have generally had positive experiences in the past. Unfortunately, this most recent attempt to obtain a personal loan was one of the most difficult and frustrating experiences I've had with a financial institution. There appeared to be a significant lack of understanding regarding VCCU bylaws--specifically around co-signer eligibility. We were repeatedly told that a co-signer must be a personal family member and reside within the county in order to apply. This information was later proven to be incorrect. After escalating the matter ourselves by calling the 24-hour VCCU support line, we were clearly informed that there is no such requirement. The representatives we spoke with stated they had never heard of a VCCU loan requiring a co-signer to be a personal family member or to live in the county. Based on their guidance, we were able to successfully proceed with and obtain our loan--without any issue--using a co-signer who did not meet those alleged restrictions. It was embarrassing and frustrating to have to go above branch management to obtain accurate information and resolve something that should have been straightforward. I strongly recommend that upper management ensure staff at this location--particularly beyond branch manager Jessica--receive proper training and become fully informed on VCCU loan policies and bylaws. This situation warrants an internal review of how loan applications are being handled, as it raises concerns about how many other members may have been incorrectly turned away for the same reasons. At this time, I would not recommend using the River Park location for loan services. Members may be better served completing their applications online or by contacting VCCU directly through official support channels, where accurate information was readily available. read more

Sad to write this review because I believe that staff is stressed and perhaps overwhelmed. The line was out the door and staff was definitely not friendly. I felt like a bother and tense while there. Not their fault at all just not fair to customers. I will avoid this location on a Saturday. Felt stressed myself. It was not a good experience. I had better customer service before and had one particular teller that was always so friendly/ kind. I don't believe she was there today. They are now understaffed. I hope they can hire more people soon. For now, I use my mobile/ATM for my banking needs. read more

What has happened to credit unions? Once they were the place to go; to escape the counterproductive and fee ridden 'banks' that made even the simplest of tasks obstacles designed to make you just want to give up. Moving back to SoCal we wanted a small coinvent local checking account primarily to be able to access cash from ATM machines and establish some local community ties. Also, with interest rates on the rise perhaps the next mortgage or maybe a HELOC or auto loan they might be beneficial. All common sense and reasonable stuff, right? Yeah, about that. When moving here the closest to me was a US Bank, which was fine. Then that branch was closed so off to a local credit union we went. Starting with CBC, where I lasted a total of some three months. From the first branch visit to open the account to "I've had enough of this" everything that could possibly be a turn off was. Off we go to Ventura County Credit Union. Walking in the early afternoon to this branch we find one 'teller' and some person off in a glass enclosed office. Just walking in the door, the teller looked annoyed, walking up and saying we wanted to open a checking account didn't improve her mood or interest one bit. Sit over there and someone will be with you in a few minutes... ZZZzzzZZZzzz. That next person was friendly enough, but the process took way too long, I've signed off on Escrow documents faster and with less bother. Let's get to the point: VCC, much like CBC, are the very antithesis of what I always thought or experienced about Credit Unions. True I hadn't used one in thirty plus years, but yikes. First off, the hold they put on your ability to really use your new account, all in the name of "national security," makes no sense at all. That is until you see how antiquated their website is and don't even get me started on their mobile 'app.' Both of which have the feel and usefulness of the late 90's. I just tried to mobile deposit a small check ($62) to the account, finally after a few tires I gave up and made the mobile deposit on my primary account which took less than a minute and posted to the account, with funds available, on a Sunday, while I'm writing this. When a regional bank like US Bank provides a better local experience on every level it makes me think about the error I have made. So, after we get through this holiday season, with the start of a new year, it's back to the closest US Bank branch to me... with apologies! read more

vccu is predatory! their system is delayed, so your balance looks fine--then boom, overdraft fees hit. unlike other banks that refund or have removed these charges, vccu just sends a copy-paste response and keeps your money. easy money for them, but a rip-off for customers! outdated and not customer friendly. read more

I only utilize the drive thru ATM, hence the 3 star review, but it's convenient to have / be the only ATM near my house. The only inconvenience IS the drive thru ATM. What's the point of it being a drive thru if I STILL have to get out of the car to access it. The machine is in too deep and inaccessible to cars/windows because of the curb and 2 poles. Recently filed an application online. I was contacted that same day by Barbara Hernandez and she walked me through the entire process. I ran into a small complication along the way but Barbara suggested several other routes I could take instead of just sending me off. In the end, everything worked out just fine. Barbara was communicative, detailed/thorough, organized, quick and also very knowledgeable. Truly remarkable customer service. As a former employer, I must say it is employees such as Barbara that keep customers coming back. I love this new location! It is so convenient and easy to find parking. The tellers are always quick even with a long line. Over the past few months, Ventura County Credit Union has eased much of that stress for me and my family. I met with Eros to see if anything could be done about a very high interest credit card. The process was quick and easy. Eros treated me with respect and seemed to truly care about my financial situation. I have been with this bank for over 15 years and I have always been treated as a top priority, both at the Ventura branch and Riverpark branch are always courteous and quick to respond if I have a quick question via email. I just walked out of the Ventura County Credit Union in the Oxnard Collection, and I feel so much better. I just bought my first car from carmax and I am trying to refinance due to the offensive interest rate they gave me. I am brand new to this and have no idea what I'm doing. I walked in confused and clueless and in desperate need of some kindness and compassion. Well Jessica absolutely provided me with that. She explained everything to me in a clear and helpful fashion, walked me through each step, answered all my questions, and gave me a much better understanding of what I was getting into. In the end I walked out of there feeling hopeful and with a new account at the credit union. The customer service at this location is wonderful, and Jessica saved my day. It was my first time visiting this credit union. When I first arrived, I was greeted by everyone. Very friendly staff. I felt very welcomed. I had questions about a loan and the assistant manager helped me out. Extremely nice and funny guy. He was very knowledgeable about the products and services VCCU had to offer. I was shopping around for rates, but with his exceptional service, I think I am going to be going back to him so he can help me out with the personal loan I need. Came in to open an account and it wasn't busy, but I waited for awhile. I was told by a one of the ladies that worked there that she will gladly help me and just wait for a minute. She kept telling me this as she passed by twice then by the third time she passed me by she didn't even look at me or talked to me she just went out the front door wearing her purse and straight to the parking lot. I then waited for a couple of minutes and decided to ask one of the tellers if someone else was going to help me since she obviously went on break and didn't even bother to tell me. The teller I talked to was unaware that I was even waiting there. This branch was not accommodating to their customers. Very unprofessional and customer service was lacking. I wish I could give zero stars. I came in to open an account, the lady told me to take a seat and then would be right with me. I sat there for 20 minutes waiting for someone to come and help me, and no one came. I understand if the branch was packed and it was so busy, but this was not the case. I came in to open an account right when I walked in I got greeted with a smile , they were busy but I was helped right away . Liz Alvarez helped me open my account she was AMAZING!!!! She was so helpful with everything she explained all the services Ventura County credit union provides, And we even had a conversation about our kids . If I could give this place negative stars I would. We just bought a house and my husband I wanted to open a joint account. They told us because they couldn't verify our address yet since the purchase was so new we would have to come in and show mail with our name and address, which I get is protocol and I had no issue with. I went in with the homeowners insurance and they said it had to be a utility bill which was not told to me on the phone, but still I understood and waited since it was still to soon to have received a bill. Once our water information came through I went in and asked if showing the account on my phone (since it is ebills) would be enough which it wasn't they wanted the paper. Ok I understood. The employee then said she was going to deny the account and send us a paper to our new address and we would just have to bring in the paperwork and that would work as address verification. Today I did exactly as she told me and the guy said because I didn't bring it in the envelope they couldn't accept it (which nothing was ever said about the envelope) even though it was delivered to our house and had our new address printed on it. I understand rules and protocols which is why I didn't mind all the times I had to go in. My problem is that every time I was told something different and then to be told the paperwork I brought in is printed in the bank so they can't accept it and i need the envelope it Came in? Maybe they should be clearer with their instructions. Don't open an account at this particular branch the employees maybe need to have a meeting and get on the same page as to what is needed for an account. Horrible experience. read more

Worst service from supervisor I have ever experience. Does not even want to help me with a overdraft fee that my car company is willing to pay me back for because I need proof from bank. He said that means there liable which is bullshit cause it's not even there or my fault in the place!!! I'm just about ready to cancel my account all together and go to Bank of America instead!!!!!
