I would never recommend taking your child to this orthodontist. His communication is not thorough regarding what to expect in regards to your child's care. He passes off most of the work to his staff. My 8 year old received an expander and braces. She complained every day about the expander being very uncomfortable. We told Dr Boothe at her 3 week appointment after having the expander in. He stated this was normal and all kids go through the same thing. We took her to a different orthodontist who removed the expander and commented it was the largest he had ever seen. She had 3 places on the roof of her mouth and around 2 molars that were red and bleeding. The braces had been placed on her 4 front top teeth, 2 of which were very loose so were not holding anything. The new orthodontist has 4 different expanders available that he could have used. Our child's old metal expander is being replaced with a plastic removeable retainer that will now hold her palate in place; this could have been done easily at the 3 week mark when all the turns had been done and the roof of her mouth had expanded to it's current position. Also, a different metal expander could have been used instead of the one choice that is available at Verde Valley Ortho. Dr. Boothe does not have the current tools available to him and is still only using an expander that was designed in the 1950's. Don't let this Dr convince you that there is only one choice for Phase 1 orthodontic work. read more

I can't really give VVO a comprehensive review because I only had a very limited experience with them. Our 15 year old nephew from Colorado Springs with braces spent a couple of weeks with us recently. One or more of the wires on his braces became loose and bothersome so I contacted VVO for assistance. They were able to see him within a day. The office is decorated in a very colorful under the sea motif. with lots of bright murals on the walls. Although we had a brief wait before being seen (just after the lunch hour) the staff was very friendly and accommodating. Once our nephew was seat in a chair in their very cheery treatment bay, Dr. Hillsted appeared, examined, then snipped and clipped the culprit wires and we were on our way - the best part? No charge. After seeing Dr. Hillstead for the last five months I just have to leave a review. Dr. Hillstead is a relatively new orthodontist in town and we couldn't be happier that he came to Cottonwood! My oldest son has had his braces for about 4 months now and every visit with "Dr. Blake" has been positive for him. Dr. Hillstead is relatively young, and my kids think he is so "COOL." He is friendly, funny and actually sits and chats with my son about how he's feeling, what he likes and dislikes about having braces, and what candies he wishes he could eat! (ha ha.) Unlike so many other dentists and doctors who spend two minutes staring at a chart and walking away (is there anything more aggravating?), I know Dr. Blake really cares about his patients... my son always leaves feeling good about himself (even when his braces hurt...poor kid.) Another thing I HAVE to touch on is how amazing the office is! It is immaculately clean, high tech, modern. It is decked out floor to ceiling in kid- and teen-friendly characters and painted murals, funky furniture and even has a small arcade in the waiting room! You seriously have to see it to believe it. My two other kids BEG to come to the appointments so they can hang out there! It makes the actual process of getting x-rays, tightening braces, etc all right. As a mom I am so impressed with the staff - all the ladies I have spoken to on the phone have been flexible and courteous, and they are thorough when answering all my (millions of) questions about the treatment, the financial information, etc. As far as finances go they have been SO flexible with us and our income and have bent over backwards to make sure things are right and work for us. This alone is why I will never go to another orthodontist!!!! Overall I could not be happier with Verde Valley Orthodontics. My son's teeth are straightening out beautifully, and I trust his smile to Dr. Hillstead and his wonderful staff. Would recommend again and again! read more
