It was such a relaxing train ride. 2 hours up and back through the canyon for a total of 4 hours. We saw lots of gorgeous rock formations. Craig was a very knowledge and personable guide as we rode through this canyon. Craig pointed out so many natural formations. He showed us a bear den, mountain lion den. We looked out for river otters but didn't see any. We also saw a beautifully made bald eagle's nest and we did see a bald eagle flying by our train on our way back to the train depot! Craig gave us the history of this railroad which was so interesting. We were able to go outside our train car to the open air seating to have a more "closer to nature" experience. Shine was our bartender! As soon as you walk in the train car you will see a really really nice bar. Shine was super accommodating, friendly and so helpful! Of course it was a really hot day and he said he'd take care of us if we needed any extra water. The car was super comfortable and cool with A/C. As soon as we walked on and sat in our assigned seats, we had a small bottle of champagne and a delicious charcuterie tray for each of us. There is a bathroom in each car. Go early to see the little town before your ride. This is a great trip for Seniors, families, really all ages. It's recommended to go two hours before your train departs but we arrived an hour before and had plenty of time. There is a gift shop and outdoor seating while you're waiting for departure.

We paid for living room seating, but we got "dining room type seating" The train car seating is pre assigned and if you are a party of two, as in you and your spouse/friend, you will be seated on the dining room type seating. Those with parties greater than two, you get the living room seating. The company needs some clarity on this matter when selling tickets. There was a big comfort difference between the two types of seating and we weren't told about it in advance. Also, I will point out that none of the living room type seating is located next to the on board toilet, but some of the dining room seats are right next to it. I can tell you there is nothing like a line of six standing next to you while waiting for the WC as you're trying to look at the canyon wall as you eat your lunch.

But they mean at the end of the longer tour not the one hour tour. If you're going to do it take the long tour. Or the history tour. Otherwise it's really not worth anything. But still if you need something to do go for it. Just don't expect much. I didn't expect anything and I was still let down. Not worth the amount of money it cost. This is just my opinion and I'm unaware of any other ghost tour in Jerome AZ. I bought my tickets online and went to the place in Jerome that does ghost tours. Friendly, and really informative when it came to explaining the history of Jerome and why so much activity is present. What great slice of history, a museum full of spectacular specimens, A town full of mystery, a…read more1900 ft mine shift that you can walk over (it's covered with glass!), a spectacular mansion which serves as the state museum, and beautiful scenery including a view of the San Francisco peaks in Flagstaff and views of the red rocks of Sedona. We happened upon a fabulous history guide upon walking in. A 50+ year native called us to the front porch of the Douglas mansion (which sits upon some of the mine tunnels!) and delighted us with a passionate 30 minute jam packed history. Not sure if this is a daily event, but I know we were extremely lucky to hear this talk. I cannot wait to go back and learn more.

We had been on small tours before and the guide went through the tour quickly and ended early. Not this Guide! Dave S. was a wonderful guide! He took extra time and care with us, a couple Seniors. He enthralled us with constant stories of surrounding towns and Jerome. He has amassed a great deal of knowledge having lived in the area since a small child and with various guide jobs over the years. He actually asked us what we were interested in and took care to allow us to take in the sights and pictures. And in Jerome, since my wife uses a walker, he dropped us off in front of the restaurant where we planned lunch, then picked us up just up the block. The center has been here for 15 years and exists primarily to display artifacts recovered from a single site in the area. This is extremely rare as most sites have been pillaged by pot hunters over the last 100+ years, and this site was privately owned and protected for many decades. I was honored to received what was basically a private tour of the facility by the executive director Monica Buckle. She took her time and provided much detail to give an excellent overview of this facility. Thank you so much Monica! The entire Verde Valley area is a much overlooked archaeology gem in the history of our country & this facility champions the learning and understanding of this unique place. If you're ever in the area, I strongly recommend a visit. Please note the visiting hours change for the summer season so be sure to research this first.
