I come to Verdugo liqour all the time for all my at home alcohol needs. During football season, I get a lot of beer... and during the weekend, I pick up a bottle or two of liqour. They have the Don Julio 1942 for $99 (I'm not sure how long this offer will last but it's been there for a while) and they have 2 barrels of $1 miniature liquor bottles for times when I'm low on cash. I know I sound like an alcoholic but this is a review for a liquor store. Don't judge me.... One time I walked to the liquor store since it was nice out but forgot to bring my wallet. This liquor store is honestly the best I've ever been to! The employees are all very kind and very friendly. I went in to buy alcohol for my birthday and they had a huge selection to choose from (Best selection of wine ive ever seen). They always have a smile on their face and I enjoy coming in and having a conversation with the employees. Interesting experience at verdugo liquor tonight. Here's a basic summary though: Walked into the store as the man behind the desk was arguing with two customers. I understand that i can't really blame him however since the customers were being a bit belligerent, so all is fine so far. Purchased two separate products Arrived home later to find one of my items missing Called the store and eventually got lucky enough to speak with their answering machine Drive alllllll the way back to verdugo liquor Walk into the store to see the man chillin with the phone in his hand Obviously, he is not speaking with a customer I ask why he didn't answer my call No apology but he was kind enough to smile at me and say, "I was probably on the phone," while showing off the very phone we were talking about. . . . This store is under new ownership and these guys have totally remodeled and made this place an amazing store worth going to with great customer service I don't know why there are bad reviews because everything they have in there are quality products not cheap shit and the men are nice to look at too :) they have great deals on liquor and beer and you don't have to worry about panhandlers asking you for money when you go it's definitely my favorite store. A working man's liquor store tucked into the little huddle of businesses on Verdugo opposite Montrose proper. However, Verdugo Liquor definitely deserves some respect in the face of such competition as the bizarre-ass ex-gas-station Palace Liquors just a mile or so down Verdugo. If you are into creepy old ladies behind the counter yelling at their cell phones and babysitting their kids in a musty, hot store with weird old dudes hanging out outside, skip this review and head for Palace. The staff at Verdugo has always been completely chill, certainly not giving out the common paranoid watcher vibe of many liquor stores. They leave you to browse, but are helpful and cool if you've got a question. The first thing to see entering the store is usually a massive display of hard liquors currently on sale, and while I've only been here looking at beer, a curious look through the sales have always shown some really nice bargains. Before Halloween they were selling a Vodka that came in a glass skull for fifteen bucks or so, which was completely rad. I kick myself for skipping that hilarity. What really gets my thumbs-up here, though, is the beer selection. Unless I'm being the occasional fancy dude and drinking wine, I pretty much stick to beer when I want a grownup drink, and Verdugo Liquor has a really damn decent selection of imports and smaller breweries. Where a lot of stores in the area seem to go rabid-nuts over having a good wine selection and then toss up a cooler full of domestic beers and some lackluster imports in a dark corner, Verdugo has a full wall of beer cases, with enough to keep both the beer snob and Jim the Pipe-Layer happy. Humboldt Hemp Ale, which has been impossible for me to find outside of Santa Cruz county, is always in stock. The full line of Stone brewery beers is available (excellent stuff). It's the sort of selection that has room to try a new brew each time you go shopping. The store also has a respectable wine section, your usual cases of energy drinks, sodas and other non-alcs, and what looks like a pretty good assortment of hookah and other tobacco accessories, if that's your thing. Overall, a laid-back, friendly staff, a fine selection of usual and unusual beers, and the proximity to other places I like to be (read: my house) earn Verdugo Liquors a solid four stars. read more

I've got a number of friends who live up here in the Foothills, and whenever I go to barbeques at their houses, THIS is the liquor store I hit up on my way. All those years I worked in La Cañada, I often overlooked this liquor store because they didn't carry my brand of cigarettes. Now that I am a boring grown-up who has quit smoking, I can clearly see that this is a superior liquor store. If this place was down the street from my house, I'd definitely be a regular. Verdugo Liquor has a crazy selection of the hard stuff, and they sell it at decent prices. But what keeps me coming back is the beer. Every time I come here I see some neat, new craft beer that you don't see every day (like He'brew) or is just hard to find (like Leinenkugel amber ale.) They have yuppie craft beers like I enjoy, but they also carry good cheap-o beers, like Hamm's. They have a lot of wine, too, if you're into that. read more

So I go in to buy some Pink Champagne and a bottle of liquor. Liquor wise, their prices are the same as other stores, give or take a dollar. However, the pink champagne seemed a little cheap - and here I was thinking "Maybe they charge less, since it's not 'really' champagne... Oh, what an idiot I was. I chill this bottle of bubbly, and as soon as I open it (which was harder than usual for a screw cap) and pour a glass, I notice UNIDENTIFIED BLACK SPECKS in the champagne. And I tried to google it - and came up with no answer! (However google did come up with the answer that cheap brands of champagne expire sooner than more expensive brands.) All I have to say is a store that is willing to sell EXPIRED products (at a lower price?!) shouldn't be considered. It really sucks to write this because I have come in here a few times with no troubles at all... until I opened this bottle. That had little black flecks floating around inside. You have Belgians, the Stone beers, microbrews from all up and down the West Coast and some English/Scottish beers that are hard to find. Okay cigar selection, lots of hookah filler "shisha" tobacco from names familiar and those not so familiar. The car magazine -you know with all the thick ladies you crave with gigantic asses and the cars that are oh so stylish- selection is prime. Porno selection is extensive for a liquor store. Staff is cool too. Purchased two puff plus' today and both ran out within hours. I tried contacting them, no answer. Spent over $40 on them and very disappointed as I live in Long Beach. The man behind the counter asked that I try the puff bar prior to leaving because other accused them of selling them short. I went ahead and tried it in the car and all seemed to be fine. Don't ever come here !!!! This place is trash.. was consistently buying like 4 of the big puff bars a week here. Recently, they must have got a bad batch or their counterfeit plug got a worse batch. As I tell the guy with the glasses that before used to talk to me all friendly he tells me (with no mask on) to try the puff in the store. I tell him I'm gonna go try it outside (because of covid) I'm not trying to take off my mask in the nasty store that he's probably never cleaned. The puff bar doesn't work as I go back he gets mad that I didn't try it in front of him. I'm not about to take off my mask And when I told him to put on a mask, he got all mad and told me not to tell him what to do. DONT EVER COME HERE... look out for the guy with glasses and ugly face. This really is a great liquor store, I come here usually before I go to a party because their beer selection is AWESOME (and cold) and they also have a great assortment of wines. They are also very reasonably priced and parking is a snap. I highly recommend coming here if you are looking for a better selection of booze than a market would have. read more

The owner of this shop treats his returning customers like complete trash. Me and my buddies would always come to this store and buy cigars for our cigar nights. Good prices and great selection. The owner one day straight up accuses us of stealing cigars....this was a shock to me. I asked him to show me on the video camera of us stealing and of course the culprit looks nothing like us. I wasn't even sure if the person(s) in question on video surveillance were even stealing, regardless it didn't look anything like us. I kindly told the owner that it is not right for you to treat your returning customers in such a fashion and make such accusations I can pull up my bank statement and show exactly how much business I brought to this shop. And his response to me was "You aren't the only one who shops here". I have worked in retail and customer service for many years and we never treat customers like this. He also priced some of his cigars for a lower price and still charged a higher price and refused to honor the displayed price. We will not be going back.
