I had limited internet service choice as I was moving into a new apartment in Central Connecticut. It was either Frontier Communications, or a bloated internet service behemoth which also had terrible reviews. I used Frontier for 4.5 years. At first it was affordable, but they soon started increasing monthly charges. After a year, they said my address required a "mandatory upgrade" to fiber-optic, which (they said) would result in "blinding fast speed up to 10 X faster!". No difference in service or speed at all. And the mandatory upgrade came with $20/month increase (not mentioned in advance)! Over the 4 years, monthly charges increased from $40 to $67, with NO change in service or speed (other than the one I mentioned)! I had the lowest bandwidth possible and I was the only internet user/tenant in a studio apartment. I planned to move soon, so in disgust, I decided to cancel my service. When I called Frontier customer service to cancel, the rep said to avoid cancelling service, she REDUCED my monthly rate to $20 a month! For the last 6 months I lived there. Then, I had to a pay a closing $50 "cancellation fee". Finally, they said I must return (via UPS only) their proprietary router (MANDATORY to rent their equipment) within 30 days or charge of $100. The device is so old, you know they throw it in the trash. Thank goodness, I kept the UPS receipt, because I read in a review that Frontier routinely will routinely say they did not receive the returned device. (And the rep explained why!) I returned the router per their UPS instructions in October and today, December, they charged me the $100 for not returning the equipment. After the usual lengthy voicemail run around, I was finally connected with a human who asked me for the UPS tracking number and she said she will put in the request to her supervisor to rescind the $100 charge. By way of explanation, she said that when returned equipment is delivered by UPS, if no one is at the desk, it does not get "scanned in" as returned, and the warehouse staff put the devices away, with no indication the item has been returned. Poor management and incompetence. The phone reps are all over the country, especially in the US South (Tennessee, Alabama, etc.) , and they often oddly, reveal a lot of personal information like health, family, economic problems, etc, in an over-share way, like they are trying to ingratiate themselves. I would avoid them if possible. Not always possible.

My landline was disconnected because I hadn't signed a terms and conditions, that I never recieved. After 3+ hours of trying to reach a human, I was told that they could not rush the minimum cancellation of 72 hours. If I could live without a phone for 72 hours, I wouldn't have Frontier. If you have a choice, choose someone else! MBH
