I had a good experience! We switched to frontier after moving in to a new apartment in Long Beach. Frontier was the best price for speed in the area and the only ones with a fiber optic network. The guy on the phone was friendly and upfront about all the costs and conditions. Got the 100/100 speed package and he said it would be $40/month for 2 years, with a $10/month modem rental. We had Spectrum (Charter) at our old place and it was $40/month for 100/4 (yes you read that right) and in reality we were lucky to get 40/2. Not to mention the ping was horrible. After the install (which took 2 weeks, only downside) I tested the speed and got 108/120 when plugged directly into the router. The installer was professional and clear on communicating. There is a $70 contract cancellation fee (which is pretty fair considering it also guarantees the price for two years) however it is pro-rated as the term goes on. Pros: Speed is as advertised 100/100 sometimes as high as 120/120. No outages so far Great communication from Customer Service team 2 year price guarentee Cons Took 2 weeks to get installed 2 year contract (but cancellation decreased the closer you get to the end. read more

I just signed up for frontier internet after their representatives approached my home and convinced me to switch out of the service that I was already getting. When I told them that I was currently paying $50 a month, They told me that with their new fiber optic service, I'd have a better connection AND that with auto pay I would be paying less than what I was currently paying. THAT WAS A DAMN LIE. When I called to see what I needed to do to get the $10 extra off I was shocked when I was informed my bill would be 89.99 for the additional router they left. Customer service is the worst customer service ever. I have never tried to contact a service provider about my account and not get any help at all . You say that you don't have or remember the requested information and it just keep going back and ask you for the same information or you get a message saying that they are having trouble and try back later. So I made the switch form Spectrum Internet and TV to Frontier (AKA: Verizon) FIOS about 4 months ago in Long Beach, CA. Getting in is a deal, getting out not so much. The setup appointment was easy and on time and all the installation fees were waived and included the DVR box (still says Verizon on it), modem/router and remote. Total installation time was a little lengthy at about 2 hours because the guy had to mess with the cable box that's installed in the apartment closet quite a bit. Nice guy, though once he got started talking he wouldn't stop. Probably added an additional 30 minutes just for that. After that service has been about 95% percent consistent with both TV and Internet. It was actually fairly solid the first couple of months then started to get random drops. TV channels would black out of get pixelated, and internet would just disappear to have to reconnect. Speed test show a consistent 80 Mbps download with 60 Mbps upload. Should be faster as they claim 100/100 ! Otherwise DVR works, picture quality is better than cable but the same as satellite and the remote menu interface is decent and the actual TV remote lights up. They still need to grey out the channels you don't get in the menu. Where Frontier really SUCKS is that they still make you do 12 month contracts. Due to unforeseen circumstances I had to move and end my contract early. They do not waive the fee, which is $79 for early termination. They charge you $39 if you want to put the account on hold or vacation mode. They also do not pro-rate your cancellation date. So if you cancel on the 2nd of the month, they charge you for the ENTIRE month! Absolutely TERRIBLE policy. So yeah, that's the deal. read more

Frontier Communications in Long Beach has by far been the worst experience I've had in attempting to resolve a rather simple customer service problem. A few months ago I moved into my sister's house. I had to contact Frontier to connect my bedroom TV set. After six months of them billing me incorrectly, I thought we had corrected the problem last Friday. Instead of correcting the problem I have been disconnected by at least 5 representatives after spending countless hours on the phone with unpleasant people and equally unpleasant music. When they ask for a five digit code which I don't have and have never had that is their clue that they state they can't help me and disconnect the call...WOW! They hire the worst customer representatives. I don't know what rock they look under to find these people. Deborah, a repair tech and Albert are two worst of the worst. Zero stars for customer service and product/service knowledge. I currently have Charter for internet and television. I wanted to switch over to VerizonFios after seeing that I would be getting HD channels without an additional charge when a representative came knocking on my door. I didn't sign up at the time, because I wanted to compare the services with Charter, since I already had their equipment hooked up to my tv's. I went online to see if it was available in my area... answer was 'no'. Chatted with a rep online to verify, if this was true, and he confirmed that it was not available. So, I called their office after I "googled" the nearest location to my residence. The person who answered my line said he did not know, and will have someone give me a call by the next day. That was 2 weeks ago. Sadly, I had to chase after a VerizonFios installation van on my street to confirm that it is available at my address. We took over a business that had Frontier Fios Business class. Their network had been very inconsistent and I called them for support. They said they would charge $85 per 1/2 hours for their onsite support. If we are paying more than $400/month for business internet, and they charge extra for support, what's the point? I've been using Verizon FIOS, internet and TV, for about 2 years, and I've been very disappointed. Internet: Verizon advertises ridiculous high download and upload speeds. I have the 80mbps plan. Surfing the web, downloading updates and the like is fairly speedy, but not any different than any high speed cable plan I've used. Where FIOS falls down is their netflix support; it has been getting worse and worse. No longer am I able to watch anything during evening hours without the video pausing every other minute. My next door neighbor with Charter gets full HD resolutions at the same time, so its not like Netflix is at fault. You can also see national rankings where Verizon FIOS is behind virtually every DSL provider, never mind cable provider, in netflix performance. Considering I paid for a plan where I should be able to stream 25 high def streams simultaneously, it is frustrating that I can't get one low def stream without pauses. TV: We've had better luck with the TV side of things, but here the DVR boxes they supply mar the experience. The boxes are so slow and sluggish that it often takes 4 or 5 seconds to respond to a remote control click, during which we click thinking it didn't register the click, and then it buffers all of them to do things we did not intend. We are constantly missing shows as the DVR forgets to record; for anything we consider important we check ahead to make sure that the episode will actually record. New seasons of shows we have previously set to record whole seasons of more often than not will not record until we add them again. I'm paying a premium for Verizon FIOS, and instead of a premium experience we got an mediocre one. I feel betrayed by Verizon and am seriously considering switching to Charter and/or Direct TV. Update: Just as I was about to pull the trigger to switch to Charter for internet, Netflix sped up. It seems that Verizon was demanding money from Netflix, and provided terrible service until they did. Now that Netflix is working well, my laziness has overcome my anger at Verizon and I'm holding on to the service. Update1: Service has been slow for days. So slow that I'm actually unable to upload relatively small files to servers before they time out (which is critical to my work). Called tech support, waited an hour on hold only to find there's an outage in my area, and it will be 4 days before its fixed. I'm moving soon, so its too late to switch to Charter, and with my FIOS lines being sold to Frontier by the end of the year, I can't imagine service will get better. read more

I just tried to cancel my contract over the phone. I spent almost an hour for 2 calls, waiting on hold for over 40 minutes total. When I told the rep. that I wanted to disconnect my service and that I had signed a contract with Charter, she literally REFUSED to do it. I'm not exaggerating, I asked over 30 times to have my service disconnected. After ignoring my request over and over I started to yell "PLEASE JUST DISCONNECT MY SERVICE!!!". It was absurd. She would not do it until I told her I was going to get really nasty. I know it's their job to try and get you to stay with their service but this was just fucking ridiculous. I would never go with Verizon again based on this incident. Here's a tip: don't tell them they're too expensive and you've gone with someone else or you'll go through the hell I just went through. Due to terrible customer service with Fios, I decided to cancel my service. I was able to cancel TV and telephone easily but I had to wait a bit longer to cancel my internet service, due to unavailability of a crew from Charter. When I finally got hooked up with Charter, I called Verizon to cancel my internet. They told me that I would have to bring a copy of a Power of Attorney to one of their stores, because the account was in my wife's name and she is currently deployed with the US military. I found out why they wouldn't cancel my Internet so easily: When you cancel TV and phone but leave internet, that breaks the "bundle" and drives the cost up to $75 per month for internet alone! Pretty shady, Verizon!!! So, I come to this store, wait 30 minutes to be seen and then, am confronted by what I believe is the most condescending, argumentative, punk I have ever met in the customer service industry (his name was "Kyle", by the way). I told Kyle the entire story, to which his response was a very condescending "Well, you don't have to take it out on me." To which I said: "Well, you can complain to your customer service department on the phone, because they're the ones who started this." Again with the condescension, Kyle replies "Do you want me to help you, or not?" I gave him a nasty stare and said "What are you waiting for?" I stood there for about 15-20mins while Kyle babbled back and forth on the phone with someone from Verizon. Finally, he said. I just purchased a new home and tried to get FIOS. I was informed there was fraud from the previous residents and asked to fax some documents. I asked if I could email them, and I was informed that I had to fax them. I drove five miles and paid $3.00. The rep then requested more documents. Again I drove five miles and paid $3.00 to fax. However, they stated they did not receive the fax. At this point, things were getting ridiculous so I checked the reviews for FIOS service. End result, Charter is coming out to hook up Friday! Obviously...if you're reading all these reviews...you're getting the picture. Not much to add other than I believe the core issue with Verizon is honesty. They simply lack integrity. They will tell you anything to sell you, "upgrade" you, lock you in, etc. Poor, poor business ethic and really, just horrible customer care. They will not come through as they say...they will not follow up with you on any level that matters (I.e. they might send a "do not reply" email), they will not give you the whole story, nor paint a true picture of the service you'll be getting. Very frustrating. They happen to be the only option in my area. However, when ATT Uverse comes into our area, I will switch over in a split second sight unseen and I do not care about what it might cost...and that should tell you something about how bad things are. It cannot be worse than where I'm at, and Verizon has burned me (and SOOOO many others) through their lack of common courtesy issues such as delivering on their promises and simply telling the truth. We have suffered through 2 years of Verizon, not because it isn't giving us a good connection, per se, but because we signed a fricking contract that we've been waiting and waiting to end. The installation of our internet was provided by a guy who was not wearing anything "Verizon" and I'm fairly certain he was a subcontractor. He drilled a giant hole in a wall to make his life easier. (It was easier for him than using the already existing lines; I overheard him say that to whomever he was chatting with while doing our installation). He "cut" wires that were adjacent to our front door and left them dangling; and while he was doing this, he disconnected our "new neighbors" cable. Nice to meetcha! Hey, by the way, we're the new ayeholes who have moved in, who have cut your cable wires. When I tried to complain I got the runaround. This guy who was in our home, the entire time he was setting this up, he was on his cell phone talking about personal crap. I tried to stop him from drilling the giant hole in our bedroom as we rent and I didn't think I wanted to explain why I had to have a new cave put in, considering our house came ready for wi-fi. He also set a password that he didn't leave behind for us. You're just supposed to look into your crystal ball to find out how to connect your laptop etc. Anyway, I can't wait to ditch Fios and be FREE, to join the revolution, ditching cable for programs from Roku, Hulu, Amazon. We are stuck for two years with a line of sight DVR. Hate this DVR with a passion. The Guide will not let you just see the movies subscribed to. The free instant movies are not stuff you would watch.
