Do not use this company. I ordered a 5 lb bag of Grande Mozzarella Cheese on July 15, 2025. i was told by their sales representative that because it was summer time they would require United Parcel Service 2nd day air shipping at a cost of $37.50 to ship to Texas. My order was dropped at a UPS facility by Vern's on 7/16. At some point in the process, UPS had a technical issue and when I received my order 5 days later the temperature inside the cooler (which I paid 11 dollars for) was 88 degrees. I immediately contacted Vern's to let them know of the issue and was told by their sales rep Alyssa that she would have to speak with someone in the shipping department to see what could be done. i waited one full business day to hear from someone, but just crickets!!! The next morning I called Vern's again and was told they would transfer me to Mike the shipping supervisor to handle my issue. Mike immediately started telling me there was nothing they could do as they have no control over UPS and that I would have to contact UPS to find out what happened and to get a refund. I calmly explained to Mike that I did not contract with UPS to deliver my order, that they did and that all I was requesting was that they make things right by re-shipping my order at no cost to me. Mike, then went on a long winded story about how the truck that delivered my 88 degree cheese did not say Vern's on it but UPS, so they would not refund my money or re-ship my order. The pomposity of this guy cannot be measured!! I asked him if in their 61 years of business had they ever had this problem before? He said "Sometimes" I then proceeded to ask him if he gave the same response that he had given me to those customers, nothing but crickets. Can you imagine the gall of this company to just give you the middle finger after paying 80 plus dollars for cheese and the best they can do is tell you its your problem now , not theirs!!! I don't know if Vern is still on God's green earth, but if he is he should be ashamed to have his name on a company that has no ethical or moral compass. If you order from Vern's, you best drive to Wisconsin to pick up your order, because all Vern's delivers to you is terrible customer service, headed up by Mike and the middle finger! read more

This is a mandatory stop for anyone who appreciates great, fresh cheese. Vern's is a family operation from the shop floor to the office. They ship to retail outlets all over the state, Vern's Cheese may be available at your local grocery outlet. They recently added a retail store front that, frankly, cost some of the charm. I preferred going into the office and buying from the makeshift retail area. The storefront also offers cheese from other makers around the state. I prefer to bypass all that product and go right to the large coolers where the Vern's product is located. I'm especially fond of their cheese spreads, brick and midget longhorn Colby. Business sometimes takes me within 20 miles of Chilton, and I always make time for the 40 mile bypass to visit the store. read more

Very disappointed with my experience. I was so excited when I came up with the idea of sending my dad Wisconsin cheese for his birthday! We used to pick some up every year, but due to COVID we were unable to take our trip to the area this year. Unfortunately 2 separate occurences made this a less than desirable experience. #1. One of our favorite types of cheese is the Garden Vegetable. I went to add a block to my shopping cart and was notified the cheese was "out of stock". I went ahead and called the store to see when the cheese would be back in stock and was informed it had been discontinued. While this was definitely disappointing, I went ahead and chose to go with a block of the Vegetable Jack cheese. #2. When my dad opened his birthday present, he was excited to have received the 2 blocks of cheese I had sent. This confused me as I had actually placed an order for 3 blocks of cheese and received a confirmation email listing out the 3 I purchased. I decided to call and see what happened to the missing block and was informed it was out of stock and had been removed from my order. This frustrated me greatly as I purchased the cheese as a gift and was not notified of any changes to my order. While I was not charged for the missing cheese, I also was not informed in any way it would be removed from the order. Had I known, I would have purchased a different variety. Vern's decision to just change the order without notifying the customer cost them not only one sale (as I would have purchased a different type), but now I will be looking elsewhere when purchasing Wisconsin cheese as I would like to know what I am receiving ESPECIALLY if it is being sent as a gift. While the cheese tastes great, this experience was extremely disappointing and I will not be purchasing again. read more

This is THE best string cheese I can find in Wisconsin. Most of the other stuff found in stores is bland and mushy. I like my string cheese dry, stringy, salty and fresh... always the result when I buy Vern's from my local grocery store! It is a bit salty, so if you don't like salty then this might not be the stuff for you. read more
