I've been coming to Drybar for years, both when I lived in Austin and after moving to San Antonio,…read moreand overall my experience has been pretty mixed -- which is why I'm giving it a middle-of-the-road rating. When it's good, it's really good. There are a few stylists here who are absolute gems and consistently do an amazing job. The problem is that because they're so good, they're also very hard to book since everyone tries to reserve them. The bigger issue is consistency. There seems to be a high turnover with stylists, so sometimes you get someone very experienced and other times it feels like you might be with someone who just got their license recently. Because of that, the quality of the blowout can be a bit hit or miss. Timing can also be stressful. They're very strict if a client is late, but in my experience appointments often start late on their end. Many times I've had to wait 5-10 minutes past my appointment time, and occasionally it's been 30-45 minutes, which can be tough if you're getting ready for an event. I also have curly hair (not coarse, just curly), and if a stylist isn't comfortable working with that texture, what should be a normal appointment can turn into a much longer session -- sometimes up to an hour and a half. That said, for the price point it can still be a convenient option, especially since there aren't many direct competitors offering the same type of service. I've had my membership twice over the years and used it frequently. However, after thinking about it, I recently decided to cancel my membership. I've enjoyed many visits here and there are definitely talented stylists, but the inconsistency and timing issues ultimately made it harder to rely on regularly.

I had a very disappointing experience at this Drybar location. I drove 30 minutes to get there, but…read morethe GPS kept taking me to a Pilates studio nearby, making it hard to find. I actually arrived at the mall 15 minutes before my appointment, but I got lost trying to locate the salon and spent that time calling the store repeatedly and no one ever answered the phone. When I finally found the place, the check-in staff was rude and told me that because I was 11 minutes late(1 minute over the grace period), I could only get a dry style instead of the wash and blowout I had booked. I came specifically for the full service, so this was very frustrating. I even suggested removing the scalp massage so there would be time for my wash and blowout, but it was clear the staff hadn't even reviewed my booking or its details. On top of that, I had requested purple shampoo and conditioner since I had just colored my hair, but that was ignored. The person who washed my hair didn't do it properly, my scalp wasn't even fully wet. The stylist was clearly inexperienced and did not deliver the style I wanted. Overall, the experience felt rushed, unprofessional, and poorly handled. I never write negative reviews, but this experience was bad enough that I felt I had to. This location needs better training and customer service if they want to keep clients coming back.

I know it is time for my hair to be relaxed (applying a chemical solution to my hair that…read morestraightens it) when I cannot comb straight through my hair from root to tip or I have excruciating headaches every time I try to comb my hair. Yep...it's time! Walking into the hair salon to get my hair relaxed was like preparing for hair warfare. I came prepared with my phone fully charged (in case I need to abort this hair mission), snacks in my handbag, and fully prepared to sit patiently as the process was activated. My stylist, Naana, took one look at my hair, nodded slowly, and said, "Ok...it's time. Exhale! I told Naana I needed a relaxer. She had previously sent me an emoticon stating, "maybe yes or maybe no." I need my kinks gone...quick, fast and in a hurry! At the point where she said yes, I wanted to do a happy dance. The base and then relaxer had been applied. The big guns were out pointed at my head. No burning...good sign. Then like magic my hair goes from super coily, i.e. kinky to relaxed and straight. Naana rinsed out the relaxer solution and applied conditioner. Then I was off to the dryer for a deep conditioner. Then conditioner was rinsed out, my hair dried and flat ironed. There is nothing like having your hair flat ironed. Sleek. Glossy. Wind ready. I walked out of the salon feeling brand new, like a super model. Ok...maybe not a super model...just a grocery store model. Smile. That confidence lasted two seconds until I walked into Texas humidity. The good news was that the kinks were gone. The bad news was that the curls were back, just not kinky this time. Look forward this process in 8 weeks...Naana is actually an amazing stylist and love get my hair done with her.

Every appointment with Danica feels like catching up with an old friend--warm, relaxed & full of great conversation. Danica's suite at Salons by JC at The Quarry #10 is the perfect place to unwind & she always makes you feel right at home. She recently gave me a trim with lots of added beautiful layers to my naturally curly hair & as always, she did an amazing job. If you're a curly girl looking for someone who truly knows how to work with your texture, Danica is the one to see. Also--her husband Michael does color & highlights & I've had mine done by him before. He's fantastic too! Between the two of them, you're in the best hands. Highly Recommend! *Also reviews on Google

What made matters worse is that they do not accept walk-ins, which would be fine if they were actually responsive. I called three separate times and not a single call was answered. No callback, no communication, nothing. Because I couldn't get through to anyone, I had no choice but to go there in person just to ask about appointment availability--only to be told they don't take walk-ins. The lack of basic customer service and communication is unacceptable. If you expect people to schedule ahead, the least you can do is answer your phone. Very disappointing experience. I would not recommend unless you have a lot of time and patience to deal with the hassle.

My curls had all fallen when I got home I…read moreended up having to completely re-curl my hair quickly because it didn't look at all styled or put together. Which totally defeated the purpose of paying to get my hair done. I think the only thing that I liked on my makeup was the eyeshadow, the lashes had lifted at one end of both eyes. My stylist was Lili, I don't think I would return or recommend, especially for the money spent and dissatisfaction of the results. Also, I understood that the salon was located downtown and how I would have to pay for parking because of it, however, I had even asked via text message if they recommended a place to park which they were helpful in sending a picture of one and with it showing their side door for me to enter on the weekend. However, when I got up to the salon, they had asked me for my license plate information to cover or waive the parking expense. Unfortunately, this information wasn't relayed to me in advance that they would be covering the parking expense and the parking lot states you have to pay when you park and when I told her I had already paid for it nobody told me anything even when I asked ahead where to park, Lili's response was "oh well next time." It would have been nice to save the $21.56 that I had spent for 2 hours of parking. Again, super appreciative that they even offer this it's just nice that if it is offered that the information is relayed so I could have appreciated/benefited from it as well.
