Jamie took off over 10 inches of my thick, straight Asian hair and did a fantastic job of it. Jamie was really personable and knowledgeable, kindly advising me on a good length for me/my face (I foolishly went a little shorter but she followed my directive anyways). She helped me pick between layers vs texture (cause I didn't know the difference). I walked out feeling like a million bucks and a pound or two lighter! The salon was beautiful and spacious too. I'm was a long time customer and was happy with the stylist. As of recent, their prices have become outrageous, they charge separate to blow dry your hair mind you my hair is shoulder length, and now they're calling me to pay for my appointment ahead of time in case I cancel. Even though anytime I've had to reschedule which was only once or twice, I call ahead of time. I called the manager and told her I don't know who they think they are not even my doctors offices. Ask for payment upfront or no-show fee. Ridiculous and refuse to give my business to acts like they're privileged. read more

It was my first time at this location. I had a young lady do my hair called Entela she was super sweet and did an excellent job on my hair. The inside of this place is so nice and they pamper you to top it off. They have coffee, ice water, cookies and when you're getting your hair tinted or highlighted it ha a room with a TV & they have high tech blow dryers that's just a huge big ring that rotates around your head. When you get your hair shampooed, you get a full head massage and neck massage and then they even put a hot towel over your head for a little bit and then massage your head again. Overall, this was an amazing experience. Everybody was super nice I just loved the experience . I highly recommend trying K Charles . I've also seen another young lady at that location named Ashley Nace, and Ashley does amazing blonde highlights. If you're looking for highlights or coloring she's your girl. read more

I have tried many salons in town and K Charles is the best! She has done two separate treatments on my hair; a perm (yes I'm old school!) and some color. Both have been the most amazing and enjoyable experiences I have ever had at a salon. Jamie is great and I'm sure the other hair stylists are good at their jobs because this place has lots of regulars, but I met Jamie and will hopefully use her services from now on. Is there any way to give KC & Co (Tanya) more stars? Because 5 is too low... I'm so happy with my hair and my experience at KC & Co. I went for my consultation late last month and met with Tanya. Tanya was a referral from our very own CM, Glo. I remember seeing Glo's hair not too soon after Tanya had worked on it for the first time and I was amazed at how gorgeous it looked. I knew I had to go to the same person. We discussed what I was looking for, the reality of what I wanted, what would look good, etc. I'm gonna be totally blunt about it: my hair was a hot mess when I saw her. Split ends, dry, gray hair... and I'm one of those customers that most hair dressers probably hate since I'm guilty of the box colors as well. I told her that right off the bat and we joked around about it for a bit. She was all good though. Tanya gave me my quote and told me how long it would take and from there we went to scheduling my appointment. I would have seen her a lot sooner (my initial appointment was for the beginning of this month) but my schedule is constantly shifting. I think I scheduled and re-scheduled a total of about three times. But each and every time I called to do so, the employees always treated me with respect and always tried to meet me halfway. Especially since my appointment was supposed to last about three hours! I finally made it in yesterday and I was whisked away to 'change' and get ready to get a new 'do. Foils, a relaxing hand massage by Gloria, great conversation, more color, an awesome shampoo/massage by Daniella, cut, style, free wifi, tea, & Biscoff cookies... I think I pretty much got it all. I was treated like royalty and I loved every minute of it. I think I even made Tanya happy when I told her I didn't come with any idea on how to cut my hair or what I wanted - she could do what she felt was right. All I wanted to keep was to keep it long (aside from the colors I wanted). She had a huge grin on her face. She didn't go with anything over the top crazy but knew on instinct what would look great with my face. Tanya also told me about upkeep and how often I should get cut, etc, etc. Of course, when we were done, we had a few minutes to talk about products. My 11 yr old son has A LOT of beautiful, thick hair (and he looks 16). He has let it grow out over the past year and was terrified to get it cut. I finally talked him into getting a little cut before school starts. He was VERY RESISTANT! I called a few weeks ago and explained the situation to the receptionist. I asked for a stylist that specialized in mens cuts and I was willing to pay an upcharge. She told me that Lauren was very experienced. She gave me a link to upload photos and we scheduled an extra 30 minutes ahead of the appointment for a consultation. I uploaded the photos and was very clear in my comments about why we were coming in. We arrived and were greeted promptly. The young lady in the front was friendly, sweet and welcoming. We only waited for about 3 minutes before Lauren came over. She had no clue about the photos I provided. She stared blankly at me while I explained everything all over again. I repeatedly said, we don't want to take a lot of the length off of the top. I stepped away as she went to wash his hair. I waited a few minutes and tried not to "hover". When I went back, I immediately knew something was wrong based on my sons' face and the amount of hair on the floor. He went from hair that was under his chin to eye level. How is this not taking off the length? She could tell by my sons reaction that we were not happy. She tells me that his hair on the top and his hair in the back are a different texture. No kidding! I said these exact words before you got started. Needless to say, I just paid and left. My son cried the entire way home. He now has an appointment with a barber today to cut it all off. Yes, it's that bad. He is devastated and I am furious! I used to go to this K Charles location 8-10 years ago but we moved further away. It is definitely not the high end salon that it was. He trusted me because I told him if anyone could take care of him, it would be K Charles. What a mistake! Someone once told me that if you go into a salon and the stylists are not dressed professionally and their own hair isn't done well, walk out immediately. I should have listened to this advice. I love this salon. A fun, hip atmosphere and super friendly staff greet you from the get-go. Complimentary drinks and snacks are given when you walk in - I highly recommend asking for a cup of the Aveda tea - it's delicious! I saw April for my haircut. She was great. She spent several minutes just talking to me and figuring out what I wanted before even washing my hair. That extra attention to detail meant a lot to me and I got the perfect haircut because of it. After April, I went to visit Gladys for eyebrows. She also took several minutes to talk with me and figure out exactly what look I was after. Most of my salon experience has been the stylist telling ME what I want instead of asking me. So, this was a truly great experience to be listened to and get what I paid for!! And speaking of which, the stylists at K Charles don't accept gratuity. It's included in the price already. That means you know exactly what your visit will cost you before you even get to the salon. Changing my review. I have a great stylist and colorist, but the company is now doing a covid "surcharge" of 3-1/2% for me to use their "touch less credit card system". How interesting that 6 weeks ago I used the same system with them and no surcharge that I know of. Taking advantage of customers because they can. I had a consultation prior to coming in and we agreed that I was going to do an ombré hairstyle brown to blonde. she charge me $265 to leave my hair the exact same color barely lightening it up, with no ombré effect. My hair looks like I used a box dye. The Before and after pictures of my hair look the exact same. Well, actually my hair looks more dull and sad compared to what it looked like before coming in. I see Shannon at K Charles & Co. I have been there twice and I have never had a problem, even when I called to cancel my appointment 10 minutes before it was supposed to start, they happily rescheduled my appointment. When I went in, despite only seeing her one other time, Shannon mentioned that she knew I wasn't going to make it to the early appointment because of my work schedule and was laughing about it. I have had the express Shellac Manicure there and it lasts the normal two weeks before it starts to chip or anything. I wish I could tip her because I while it is $40 for the manicure I just wonder how much they get of that and she does such an amazing job I want to tip her more. I think I will try getting my hair cut there soon just because it would be nice to have all my salon services in the same spot. New to this area so I did my usual, saw someone at work who had an amazing pixie cut and they recommended Beckie at K Charles on Broadway so I called. unfortunately, Beckie is no longer taking clients. I should have stopped right there. But I asked, "do you have anyone in the salon who is confident and experienced with cutting from length to pixie." The receptionist assured me that Alexy was the beautician. I told her my daughter has never had a professional cut and will be cutting off 12 inches. She again assured me that Alexy does shortcuts. We arrived early, Alexy introduced herself then asked do you want a consult,(should have just walked out right then but my daughter was so excited) We talked, showed pictures, and said several times leave length on top, do not stack in the back (no Karen haircut my daughters 13) and wispy on the nap not blunt. WE DID NOT get any of the above-mentioned. My daughter left with a completely shorter version of what was asked and shown with detailed pictures. Alexy did not talk the entire time and was rude to me when i said something about her cutting the nape way too short. Yes, my daughter is 13 but she wanted me to speak up for her. My daughter then told Lexy it's too short and puffy. Lexy told her I'm not done yet and was going to texture to take some weight out. I kept it in, not to ruin my daughter's experience. I paid, $70 no tip and we left. My daughter said, "thank mom for keeping it in. It's not what I wanted but it will grow and you could have cut my hair way better." read more

After less than positive experiences at several other salons- a certain very popular stylist (whose name starts with L) who was highly recommended on Yelp who took smoke breaks during my hair color and cut session- I was exasperated. Where can a girl get professional service and not hear all about relationship drama/baby mama drama/drug riddled past? OR- the stylist from another well known salon who suggested that my adopted child would be like the kid from Problem Child (I'm not even making this shiz up). C'mon San Antonio, you can do better! Enter K. Charles. Yes, it's gratuity free- but the service far exceeds anything else I've experienced in San Antonio. The salon is relaxing, drama free and they use amazing Aveda products. Yes, they'll try to sell you some products, but I'm ok with that trade off without having the drama. I am so glad that after three arduous years, my mane has finally found it's home. So, I am a college student and can't afford to spend more than $50 on my haircut. That is why I always wait to go back to school to get my haircut (versus in SoCal, it's rare to find a *good* salon that charges less than $55). Before K Charles, I usually got my hair cut at the Aveda Institute. I've been there at least 5 times, and I wanted to try somewhere new. Especially since I had a bob and desperately needed to go somewhere more professional to maintain it because the last two maintains at the school were blah. The first thing I noticed when I stepped in was how airy the atmosphere was. It was spic and span and smelled like Aveda products, natural and woodsy. I was greeted by the receptionists, checked in, and headed to the waiting area. I got assigned to Chuck, who is a junior stylist. I guess they always assign new clients to junior stylists, but that is great because it would cost only $25. Chuck listened to what I wanted, I originally wanted to show him a picture I pulled up of Hayden Panettiere's bob [because I am quite bad at describing exactly what I want, but he seemed to get the gist of what I was saying. Fast forward an hour or so, the end result was perfect. Just what I had pictured and the bob I wanted originally when I tried to describe it at Aveda Institute (and then ended up with an uneven bob). When I went to the counter to pay, the total was $40. I got confused and asked why it was not $25, the stated price for a haircut with a junior stylist. The receptionist explained that it's because I got my hair blow dried and styled. I suppose that is something that should have been mentioned in the beginning. Oh well, I wouldn't have wanted to walk out with wet hair anyway in the cold. Aside from that, I am very satisfied with this salon and will be back when I return to San Antonio. read more

Love this place. I had a meeting popup that required a clean cut so I called K. Charles last minute and they were able to fit me in the same day. Very impressed with the layout and the atmosphere of this place. Everyone was very outgoing and friendly and my stylist--Luda--was great. It took about 40 minutes to cut my hair--I'm a dude so that's a bit on the long side for me but the results were great. Oh yeah--one more thing. I am really absent minded and left my wallet at my house and didn't realize it until AFTER the cut. The cashier didn't blink an eye--she simply told me not to sweat it and that she would just charge it to my account and that I could pay them next time I came in for a hair cut. What?! Great haircut! Atalaya is a great stylist. She cuts hair dry, so you can see what it will look like, and she showed me which products to use. It's kinda pricey, but it's also non-gratuity, so you pay exactly what you're charged. I also got my makeup done here, by Gladys, for my wedding. So us guys have very few materialistic vices, it's pretty much limited to techie gadgets and booze. Well for me my other vice is getting my hair cut by someone who knows what they are doing. True the prices at K Charles are a bit higher than average but you get excellent service with tons of extras (hair washed, scalp massage!, free coffee, free snacks, great atmosphere). You won't get that at Subpar Sam's or Notso-Great Clips. In all honesty my review of K Charles is really more a review of my stylist, Tanya. I've been getting my hair cut/did/styled by Tanya for over a year now and I trust her completely. She always does a top notch job and I feel completely confident in whatever she decides to do to my mop. She is always attentive and listens well to what I'm looking for. Plus she goes the extra mile and stays with me until I'm 100% satisfied. The hair products Aveda offers are also great and for guys they have a good assortment of gels, clays, pomades, and other hair care products. All of them don't leave your hair feeling goopy or gross. I'd recommend Tanya and K Charles to anyone (man, woman, or child) who doesn't mid paying a bit more than average buy gets outstanding service from really great people. read more

This review has been a long time in the making! I have been coming to K. Charles & Company for about a year, and their service has been consistently amazing. It took me long enough, but I wanted my review to do them justice. I see Brianna for my haircut. She is excellent at her craft and also discusses what I want before she starts to work. Her product recommendations have always been on point as well. To save time and increase my chances of seeing Brianna on a busy day like Saturday, I usually let them know in advance that I am fine with another stylist blow drying my hair as long as Brianna will come check my cut afterwards and adjust as needed. I also find making appointments on the phone to be easier than online scheduling - call me old-fashioned! I have also gotten my eyebrows waxed here twice and both times, the results were perfect - cleaned up yet natural. I am so glad to have found K. Charles & Co. read more

I recently moved from California and I am so grateful I met Joseph! I have a short hair cut that requires maintenance every 6 weeks- when I found myself in Joseph's chair my trim was long overdue and I was rocking a helmet instead. It took only a few minutes before I could trust we were not only on the same page, but on the same letter- and I could sit back and relax. I came in styled as usual so he could see what an everyday look is like for me and he chose to do a dry cut- which I prefer because I have two cowlicks that always get overlooked. His movements seemed to makes no sense at all- kind of all over the place. But, like a scene out of Edward Scissorhands my hair was a masterpiece when he was through. There was no pressure to try something new or outside my comfort zone- Joseph simply made suggestions to enhance my original idea. He also explained his intentions for the cut (where we were going to let pieces grow out, and others thinned out and choppy) to reach the peak expression of my desired style. The women in the front were warm and welcoming upon arrival and made it effortless to set a appointment for the suggested time of 8 weeks. I am 25 and with this short style I left feeling confident, young, refined, and stylish rather than the 90's soccer mom I had come in looking like. I haven't had a haircut for months and decided to look for another salon. I was comfortable with the salon I had been going to but had to change stylists (my original one left) and felt like I could find better. Found this place on Yelp and decided to give it a try! I was super impressed by this salon. GREAT customer service, knowledgeable staff, beautiful & clean salon. Originally, I tried making an appointment online. I wish it was a little more easier to book online. The way it works is you send three preferred times and then they'll call you to book. I made the mistake of requesting an appointment online on a Saturday two hours before closing (hoping to book the coming Tuesday), so they didn't call me until the next business day (Tuesday). I ended up calling first thing Tuesday and was able to book an appointment same day. (They called me back in regards to my online request 1.5 hrs after I already made my appointment.) Upon arriving, the salon has a nice bubbly atmosphere. Front desk to stylists are all smiling, friendly, professional, warm. I was offered complimentary coffee, tea, or water. The salon is clean, bright, colorful. It's a full service Aveda salon-- hair, skin, nails. My stylist was Beckie. She was great! Before shampoo, we sat and talked about my hair cut preferences pretty thoroughly and clearly. This is the first time a stylist has ever asked me my preference on a straight vs U- vs V-cut! Great scalp massage during shampoo! I added on a conditioning treatment (I believe it was jojoba oil-based) per her recommendation. My hair smells and feels great. I was not offered any complimentary drinks or snacks (so looking forward to that!) and I was basically brushed aside to the waiting area without so much as a friendly smile. I did appreciate that I was seen on time, and that my stylist gave a mean shampoo. But really, I came here for a trim, not to listen to gratuitious comments on my curly hair. Yes, it's very curly. Yes, its very thick. OK, we established that. Now get over it. I deal with it, so should you. At least she cut my hair the way I asked. The prices are reasonable even with the included gratuity. I had never heard of this place until my sister started working there (Irene, the up-do queen. I get the title of: her sister.) I like that it is an Aveda Salon - if only being natural wasn't so darned expensive. Most of the times I've been here, I was just a hair guinea pig for my sister. My sister cleans me up from time to time. I like dry cutting just because all of my previous experiences with wet cutting resulted in awkward dried hair. My hair has been colored here before. I like Aveda color; it has a very natural quality about it. As my sister says, you come out looking like a natural blond. On my most recent visit, I was seen by Gladys to have my eyebrows done. My eyebrows tend to get sparse towards the end so when I was plucking, I never knew what to do about the ends. She cleaned me up and gave me a shape. There's something nice about having someone else do your eyebrows, mainly the lack of that feeling "I just can't pull this damn strip." They lay you down on this comfy reclined chair and lullaby rock songs play in the background as Gladys does her magic. It was about $20 for my brow wax, and well worth it. I like that K Charles offers tea biscuits, tea, and water to waiting people. It's awfully polite of them. Among other things, they offer free bang trims. At the beginning of the summer, I had my hair bobbed. A bob is a relatively high maintenance hairstyle. My sister informed me that they do complimentary clean up in the salon where you can go in and get your bob (or any other haircut) cleaned up if it's grown out a little (say every 3 weeks to a month). Going in for the routine clean ups decrease the need for actual hair cuts (saves $$). Overall, it's a great salon. read more
