My experience while visiting this place bothered me so much omg…read more I was in here with my fiancee and we were looking around for a while. They are a small gallery that carries work by several different artists from the area, which is really cool. My fiancee and I were in Ventura for a long weekend and we found this place while walking around the harbor village. While we were browsing, we overheard one of the employees/artists speaking insanely rudely to another customer. This place is super small so it was really easy to hear the entire conversation (and it was also so uncomfortable, because this was all you could hear, they don't play any music or anything so it was really quiet inside). This other customer had approached an employee/artist who was talking to another employee who was re-stocking shelves. She asked about a few specific pieces she was interested in, so the artist came over to look at those pieces. The customer asked if they ever do bundled pricing for patrons who wanted to purchase more than 2 items from the same artist. The artist/employee/person answering her questions got SO offended and started talking down to her immediately, saying that this is not that type of place and that "they've been here for 30 years and they've NEVER needed to do any sort of price reductions," blah blah blah. She literally yelled at this poor lady for like, 10 minutes lol Like throwing a hissy-fit... over nothing. That's such a normal, non-offensive question to ask lol Galleries and studios in LA do specials all the time; there's nothing weird or offensive about that question. After all that, the woman politely was like, "oh okay, that's totally fine, i was just wondering, thank you." lmao literally she was way too nice; i would not have been that nice to her lol ALSO-- after yelling at her, we realized that SHE was the artist of the pieces that that woman had wanted to purchase! (Said her name was Ellen, btw) So like, not only was this employee super rude for no reason, but that was how she spoke to someone who happened to be interested in her work. So pretentious, so pompous, istg. After that poor woman who got yelled at left the shop, my fiancee and i were about to leave when we hear the two employees bad-mouthing her right in front of us-- you know, two people who were still in the store, who might have purchased something. Such insanely bad etiquette. These two employees/ artists were like, in their 60s, too-- you'd think they would have grown out of acting like catty middle schoolers a long time ago. Sadly, this place has idiots like this running it, otherwise it would be such a great spot. I would never go in again.

Today they took the gallery outside to Ojai! They had a really fun pottery market at Libbey Park in Ojai. The park is beautiful with lots of shade and a water fountain with the artists all around showing their creations! It was such a fun event to meet the artists. You can also ask them to do custom work! I am so glad I went! I will definitely go again next year. And then it's fun to walk around the small town of Ojai. But if you missed the event you can definitely see a lot of the artists at the Ventura Harbor at the gallery.

It is much larger than the downtown venue. They do have off-street parking, which is a plus. Dear Hubby and I stopped by as they were transitioning to Christmas from Fall/Thanksgiving/Harvest. I can imagine that it's a large undertaking! Some areas were set up and ready for the season ahead, while others were a work in progress. I didn't mind that, but it did make it more challenging to shop. Also, there was a group of women in the store that were chatting with each other, and would stop in one area that was key to passage to other parts of the store. Thus, I didn't get to see everything that I wanted to, as I didn't want to interrupt their visit. The interior space can be tight in certain areas, but they definitely have a lot of pretty merchandise to show off. They do fresh floral arranging, and a large amount of beautiful giftware. I bought two expensive cotton dish towels, which I turned in to pillow covers. The print featured old fashioned Santas and woodland creatures in a snowy forest. So charming! I believe I'll always remember that they came from this shop. Prices are full retail, though you might occasionally find something that catches your eye and doesn't make your wallet say, "Ouch".

In visiting a winery around the corner (Cork, you should totally check it out) I parked right in front of this little boutique shop and the beautiful arrangements drew my eyes in like a kid to a candy store. From the succulent arrangements, Mediterranean themed candles, vintage baby blankets and books, and flannel varieties all soft as silk, this shop seemed to have it all. It reminded me of Carpinteria's beachy antique shops, all full of random priceless goods that come from near and far. I bought myself an adorable little hear shaped, metal bent ring for $14.50 as the price seemed marked as $4.50 and that was reasonable ring price for me. However, while scanning my card the gal working repeated the price aloud and did in fact apologize for the label not reading clearly but went on with the process, and the ring was adorable so I went along with it. I would definitely recommend this shop in finding good gifts for your loved ones around birthdays and holidays, but be fair warned the staff are not the most warm and cuddly people and the prices are somewhat above average. May be back but would probably hit my local thrift and antique stores first.

The great thing about Calico Cat Glass is they have a work shop. The owner John will let us use his kiln. Whatever we need fired is $18 per use. They also carry any supplies you need.
