When she arrived, she was extremely rushed, did not listen carefully, and did not give my concerns the attention they deserved. The appointment was for two of my children. Before I could fully discuss my concerns for my first child, the doctor closed the chart and moved on to the second child. When I tried to bring up an additional concern for my first child--something I had scheduled the appointment for--I was told it could not be addressed and that I should use telehealth instead. I was also told she needed to leave because another patient was waiting. I understand doctors are busy, but when an appointment is scheduled, parents should feel heard--especially when it comes to children's health. The experience felt rushed and transactional, not caring or patient-centered. It was clear that multiple patients were scheduled at the same time, which affected the quality of care. This was a very disappointing and stressful experience, and it ultimately led me to decide to change pediatricians. I hope the practice considers scheduling changes and communication improvements so families feel respected and cared for.

We drove 20 minutes in the opposite direction of the er only to see a tiny piece of paper on the door saying "we are closed" another saying "X-ray broken" and another saying "at full capacity" (even though they were closed and there wasn't a car in sight.) It's 2023. Update your website with your hours. There's even an option to indicate it's temporary so patients don't get confused. Don't put "accepts walk ins" in your business plan if you can't take new customers - as indicated by one of many pieces of paper on your glass door. While this thankfully was not an emergency, I indicate that it's 20 minutes in the opposite direction of the er only to illustrate how frustrating it is to drive 40 minutes round trip for nothing. When an up to date online presence would tell any stressed, overwhelmed parent they should just head straight to the er and that 40 minutes could be put toward the long er wait times. I finish this post with a question. If this office can not figure out something as simple as the internet, are they really reliable enough to help you in an urgent situation with your children?

From the very beginning, I clearly communicated my religious decision not to vaccinate my child and was told this would be accepted with a proper exemption. I followed all instructions and provided the required documentation. At no point was I told this would become an issue. At my child's 4-month appointment, I arrived on time and was immediately told I "did not have an appointment," despite having confirmation from this office. While I searched for proof, I overheard a staff member go to the back and tell the doctor that I was "trying to be seen without an appointment," which was completely false. This was said in a dismissive and disrespectful tone. After I provided proof, no one apologized or took accountability. When Dr. Tristan J. Van Voorhis entered the room, there was no greeting, no professionalism, and no attempt to address what had just occurred. Instead, I was told my child could not be seen due to insurance issues that were not accurate. After I corrected that, I was then given a completely different reason--that their "policy had changed" and my child would no longer be seen due to vaccination status, despite prior approval and documentation already being on file. We were then left sitting in the exam room for over an hour with no communication, no follow-up, and no resolution. No one returned. As a Black mother in a predominantly white practice, the tone, treatment, and assumptions made throughout this entire experience felt dismissive, disrespectful, and deeply uncomfortable. The way I was spoken about, ignored, and ultimately denied care after previously being accepted raises serious concerns about bias and discriminatory treatment. This was not just poor customer service--this was a complete failure of professionalism, communication, and basic human respect.
