Lack luster, bad patrons. Came here 6 separate times and had bad experiences with the staff/ people here. I brushed up against a man while heading outside and they were deeply disturbed about it and made it a huge problem here. I'm sorry but this place is full of sissy dudes and it's ridiculous trying to party around them. Get real. read more

hey not only did we have a great time with extremely affordable drinks a welcoming staff and great music but when my friend lost their keys at the club the owner literally met with my friend on their day off to get their keys back to them so they could drive home out of town otherwise her car would still be parked at the hotel. THAT IS AMAZING SERVICE and I personally thank you and salute you. We can't get back often being out of town but we will be back I assure you. Pretty awesome place if ya ask me. read more

Vertex is an awesome place for alternative people to be among their own. It is a very beautiful and refreshing community where outliers are accepted. It's a very spooky place, and I love it. Dance floor is on the second floor, and always plays the best trad goth songs from the 80s. Drinks are always good. I think they would benefit from having a specially tailored drink menu with a creepy twist like the Spirit Room. The bartenders are friendly. I just feel like I am at home there. read more

I am so upset to have to write this review! In past years I have had a great time as the bartenders and staff are awesome and the music is great. Tonight I honestly had the worst experience ever at a club. The DJ was playing some 80s pop (Madonna, simple minds, so on) so I put in a request for a Whitney H. song. I was dancing about an hour after putting in the request and didn't hear it. I went up to the booth to see if it was coming up as closing time was quickly approaching, and the DJ proceeded to patronize me that I have bad taste in music for putting in the song. I was appalled that he would be so mean and left abruptly after the insult. He even took my friends drink and acted like it was his and sipped it. I have never felt so upset leaving a bar/club and honestly won't go back. This place used to be open and inclusive and honestly it isn't anymore. read more

I really love this place. Had the pleasure of meeting amazing people here as well as DJing the courtyard. Its a real gem hidden in plain sight. Come as you are. Especially if you are into old school Goth or New Wave or into obscure EDM/EBM. Real cozy and walking distance from many downtown landmarks. If a dive bar and nightclub were to have a child, Vertex would be it. I love it here . It's known as a goth club, but everyone is welcomed. Wear whatever you want, yes even that baseball cap and hoodie, and no one will say a word. People are super welcoming, and the more you come the more you start to realize that it becomes your own little family. Admission is $5 for 21+ and $8 for 18-21. They also only accept cash at the bar, so be prepared. Depending on what night you go, the music can range from industrial, edm, to 80's awesomeness. Friday nights are usually reserved for the "poppier" stuff like 80's new wave and the dancier stuff. Saturday nights are the more gritty, darker stuff. They do have a small parking lot, but it can get pretty tricky getting in and out of there. If you have a bigger car/truck you may be better off trying to park somewhere else nearby. The club is actually 2 floors. When you walk in, there's a bar on the first floor and an area with a pool table and dart board. Take one of the stairwells up and you'll hit the dance area, where's there also another bar (gotta love the convenience of not having to trek down/up stairs for another cocktail). The sound and lights aren't super epic, so if you're looking for that shiny, "big city" nightclub experience, you may want to save Vertex for another night. The basement/bottom floor is where the bathrooms reside, and where the more interesting conversation seems to take place. There's also a pretty large outdoor patio area with a bar. Though, not 100% sure if they serve drinks there, but I have seen times where they serve food (hot dogs and whatnot). Drink prices are pretty on par with what one would expect from a "dive" bar. They make them nice and strong too, so be prepared for a fun night. I would highly recommend trying a Red Death. It's a great way to get the evening started. If you're into the nightlife scene, and haven't checked out Vertex yet I would highly recommend adding it to your "things to do" list. read more

I don't go out a lot and when I do I'm generally awkward and uncomfortable. My friends decided to take me out to Vertex one night and I was really nervous. I got there and everybody was wearing all black, except for me in a bright green skirt. I was expecting to feel uncomfortable all night. But I didn't! Everybody there was so nice and welcoming. Everybody danced in their own style and nobody was just there pretending to be cool. There's a nice outdoor area, and the drinks aren't expensive. Honestly have no clue how this place is still open. Now sure. The goth aesthetic may draw people in. The niche crowd that feels like this place would be a home. I've been going here since 2016 and I can honestly tell you it is not that at all. Now. Most of the clientele and regulars being over 50 isn't the problem. I've been to bars like that where everyone's chill. However. Vertex attracts some of the most pretentious/creepy/unfun people I've ever met in my life. You know that thing at bars where. You can just kinda talk to people. Maybe make some friends. Talk about similar interests. Have genuine fun with people for the night?You can't do that here. Everyone has the "I've been working my accounting job for 20 years and was born in 1983 so I'm better than you" vibe and attitude when you talk to them. Also. If you are a girl. Bring as many guy friends as you can and stay in a group. I have never seen a place in Rochester where this many creeps gather. Sure. Every bar has a few people where you are like "yeah that person's a creep" at vertex. I'm not exaggerating. Most everyone there is a groomer. If you want to get sexually assaulted by some guy 30 years older than you. Sure. Go here. It's full of those people. I've almost gotten in fights four times here because of some stupid shit people say and do. The last straw for me was when a "known regular" got really drunk. Was being really inappropreate with alot of girls. Eventually full body groped my friend and I pulled him off her. And people had to step in. If you want to be treated like an object for f**king and not a human being. Come to vertex. If you want to be belittled simply for being younger and hear some of the stupidest Bs talked about. Yes come here. Otherwise. There's many many other places that you and your friends can go to meet people, make memories, and be like "remember that time". For my money, this is the best club in Rochester. No one is going to feel unwelcome as long as they're alright with seeing the most random people they've ever met before. The bartenders are very personable and the drinks are incredibly well-priced. Patty, the owner, is a complete sweetheart and will make you feel at home the second you walk in. They have a pool table and darts on the first floor, the second floor has a second bar as well as a dance floor, and the patio outside always has an eclectic conversation going on. Don't go to this club if you want to be boring and on your phone all night - go if you want to celebrate life! read more

Welcome to where you go when you have had enough of the mass market scene that runs on East Ave. Catering to those with an alternative flair for life, Vertex plays anything from Goth to New Wave, with a little Industrial, Techno and Metal thrown in for good measure. The dress codes varies from the classic all black, the hot topic crowd and the just got out from the ball tuxedo and prom dress. in other words, anything goes and nobody will give you a hard time. Two bars, on located downstairs near the entrance, the other being up stairs near the dance floor. Drinks are reasonable in price. Outside deck for the smokers and those trying to cool down after hammering the dance floor. Fridays and Saturdays tend to be my favourite nights there, but Thursdays can be quite the blast too! This is a predominantly goth club playing predominantly metal remixes and industrial music. If you're a fan of pop or hip hop or look like you came out of a Banana Republic store you probably won't like it or feel like you fit in here. The people here are really cool and friendly for the most part and it's really fun to people watch here. Admission is a mere $3 and drinks are reasonably priced. The place is housed in a really cool looking house set back from the main street nestled downtown next to the Haro East Ballroom. They have a club/dance area on the second floor, a more laid back bar/lounge area on the first floor, and a large covered patio area outside for smoking. Although I'm not really into this scene as much as I was in college I can still appreciate the uniqueness of the space and can easily give it 4 stars anyway. read more

An under appreciated gem of Rochester. I only rank at three stars because it's so niche which isn't a bad thing. If your into the goth,alt, 80s, techno, cyberpunk, video drome, Kafka scene then this place is perfect. Saturday nights are a great time of your looking to dance to depeche mode and meet some interesting folks. I can see why some people would be turned off by this place but once your in its incredibly relaxed despite what looks like a dress code ( which is totally not mandatory). Well ache no more my sweet boys, here's a top notch establishment that will make you want to slap your beige thighs together til dawn. This place is an absolute sexy gymnasium full of gigantic and beautiful dark lords. The atmosphere instantly puts you in a euphoric state ; people have been known to lose consciousness upon entrance due to heightened senses. I felt beyond tantalized after leaving here the other night, I returned to my residence and proceeded to wink at myself in the reflection of the clock above my bedroom door for an absurd amount of time while shaving my body completely smooth.
