Had a reservation here yesterday. We were sat quickly, the vibe is very cool. Very wine cellar. Our server Iesha was great, she was very knowledgeable about the menu and helpful when choosing dishes. My absolute favorite thing on the menu was the mussels appetizer. It's so flavorful, and the broth you could literally drink. The rest of the items were all good, but I would specifically go back just for those. I thought I had more photos of the meal but for some reason they are gone?

This place is such a vibe! Located under a restaurant, I loved the lighting and decor upon arrival. We went as a group and split a few dishes, including the carrots which were roasted nicely. I also tried the tagliatelle pasta and lamb strip and enjoyed both! Service was good as well.

Food and atmosphere are top notch. All the new restaurants that have opened Downtown since this one did 10 years ago and it's held its position as one of the very best steakhouses downtown. This was the best steak we've had in a long time and we've had steak at the best restaurants all over Downtown and Metro Detroit. I believe we had a special Wagu NY Strip but hopefully it's on their regular menu. The potatoes and spinach were delicious. Regardless if it's regular menu or just a special, the food and steak is always really incredible every time I've been. The focaccia bread is amazing, Caesar salad also the best we've had in a long time. Very highly recommend this Detroit gem

Always a nice ambiance in this restaurant, sophisticated but not stuffy. Great wine list and food choices. Would recommend for a pre- or post- Detroit Opera House performance. The lamb tagliatelle was very rich, very good.

The Lamb Strip was incredible, the service was great, and restaurant was beautiful. We felt a bit underdressed but we weren't treated any differently which was refreshing. Will definitely be returning many times!

Have to give charge card to hold a table . When I walked in the hostess warned that we had a two hour time slot. So right off the bat, the pressure of a time clock starts. When she sat me down., I told her we have only two people rather than 3. Now our timing is 1 1/2 hours. The waiter was too attentive. He obviously needed to make sure the 1 1/2 hour was going to work. It was aggravating to us because we weren't ready to order. So we felt rushed. Atmosphere is so cool! Had the octopus appetizer. Very expensive and dainty. Well done. Tasted excellent. I had pasta with lamb and pesto and my friend had lamb. Both were excellent. We had after dinner drinks at the bar because we had to be removed from our table within the 1 1/2 hours. So in conclusion I give it 5 stars for food and atmosphere but it very expensive and you are timed.

Great dinner w/ business associates. Vertical lived up to the hype. Tried the grilled octopus, honey focaccia, and local sourced charcuterie board appetizers. The focaccia was average, not really focaccia, but good nonetheless. Charcuterie and grilled octopus were spectacular. Ordered the ribeye steak with a side of cheesy grits. Steak was perfectly cooked with a nice savory sauce. Finished with Earl Grey panna cotta. A really surprising dessert, great layers of texture and very balanced flavor. Service was top notch and the ambiance was definitely modern and luxurious. Great meal, great restaurant!

I liked the taste of my glass of rose wine but the service not so much. I was not greeted before I entered the restaurant by the hostess. I sat myself and waited for service and about 10 minutes later staff recognized me to place an order. I keep trying with this place but I'm not pleased with this visit. It has potential and maybe because downtown Detroit was quite busy but where are the accommodations? Or recognition that this is NOT common behavior?!?

Came here alone on a Tuesday night. Sat at the bar inside. It's empty inside. Outside is packed. Has Paris vibes, the outside sitting. I remembered the waiter from last time. He was friendly and helpful today. I let him know I wanted a pasta to go. An app. And a glass of rose. He helped me pick a nice wine and it's lovely. The bar back helped me right away. Normally when I visit I am with friends, this is my first silo trip. I really had a nice time food is great. Total Bill was about 100 dollars this place is pricing. Some of the photos are when I visited with a friend! Parking is street or the lot.

Great location. Walking distance from the Detroit Opera House, Comerica Park, Grand Cirrus Park, and more. I can't believe we didn't find it sooner! It's located behind the parking lot to the right of the Opera House. Great space with inside tables, bar seating, and a patio that is dog friendly! We sat at the bar before heading to a Tigers game. Bonus. We got there at 5:30pm on a Wednesday and it was happy hour! We tried a lot of great dishes! We started off with the happy hour rose and cocktail of the day for drinks. For appetizers, we got a lot to snack on - smoked trout toast, mussels, and cauliflower. The flavors were on point! I would recommend all three! We dinner with split the salmon and ordered the octopus carpaccio. The salmon and the octopus were okay. The carpaccio had a texture that I couldn't get past. If you're an octopus lover, this might be your jam. I prefer my octopus cooked, but glad I tried it. We had no room for dessert, but it gives us an opportunity to come back. Our bartender was amazing! So was the rest of the staff. Everyone was so friendly. I would come back for the kindness of the people!

    Any birthday deals/specials here?

No, but it's an excellent choice for birthdays/special occasions. This place is pricey. Think Ruth Chris or J Alexander's.

Do you have gluten free options?

    Yes

    What is the attire?

I am of the opinion that you cannot overdress, but you may look silly if you go too casual. We were introduced to the chef, and I'm grateful that we looked the part.

Nate and I stopped in on our most recent visit to Detroit and had a lovely experience. The space is tucked away but had a surprising amount of outdoor space--we were there in January but I'd love to come back in the summer. We were greeted right away and given a spot near the bar. The menu includes cocktails, lots of wine, and several tasty food options. It was quite busy inside, so it took a bit of time for our server to come over to us, but we weren't in a rush. They had ten cocktails on their list and I tried the bullet proof soul and Nate got the negroni alla perra. The ingredients list for some of the cocktails include things I've never heard of, but at a place like this, I just know it's going to be good. Our drinks were perfectly balanced and very tasty. We also ordered the mortadella sandwich to split--this was delicious. It was pretty messy, but worth it. It was perfectly toasted and full of mortadella. Everything on the menu sounded delicious and I would love to try more of the food options. Can't wait to visit again!

There was a 2 top table at the back that we were seated at - we could have sat at the bar also - and it was a great spot. We ordered the tasting menu and WOW, every course was amazing. I'll post pics because the presentation was gorgeous for each item. They have a small cocktail and wine and beer selection, but that was fine. My son got their Shrub Mocktail and I got the Shrub with Sake. Both were delicious and so interesting. I can't pick a favorite item because they were all so good, but the Torched Mackerel and Poached Bosc Pear were tied for #1, followed by the Salmon, Oysters and the crazy good Blood Orange dessert. The shrimp toast was just ok for me, not bad, just not as good as everything else. Additionally the service was outstanding. For a tiny place they did everything right. They explained each course, brought out fresh utensils for every course - YEA! - and made sure we had good pacing. Our server was knowledgeable and friendly and enhanced our meal. I really want to come back and try the oysters and some of the tinned items. I'm so excited I found Mink and will be back for sure.

As others have mentioned, seating is somewhat limited, but that only adds to the excellent service and intimate experience. I wish I remembered the names of our server and the manager because they were incredibly kind, accommodating, and helpful throughout the evening. One example of the thoughtful service: I was torn between two white wines, and since my partner ordered one of them, our server offered to bring a small sample of the other so I could compare and choose what I liked best. We also mentioned that we had never tried caviar before but didn't want to commit to a larger portion. They suggested a "bump" for $5 each, walked us through how to enjoy it properly (on the hand, letting it warm slightly), and made the experience feel fun and approachable. We were seated at the bar, which gave us the opportunity to chat more with the server and manager and watch the team prepare dishes for other tables. It genuinely felt like sitting at the chef's table. We both opted for the tasting menu, which changes from time to time, and we were very happy with the selection. We also added the lobster roll, and our server thoughtfully timed it so we could enjoy it alongside the warmer course. The meal began with two different oysters, one topped with caviar, giving us another chance to enjoy it. Next was the shrimp cocktail, which included wasabi--but not in an overpowering way. The flavor was present yet balanced, allowing everything else to shine. The escargot course was especially creative and delicious, paired with basil oil, pepper jelly, and hints of balsamic. While it might sound unusual, the flavors blended beautifully. I expected the pepper jelly to dominate, but it was surprisingly subtle. Next was the potato pavé served with a scallop. The textures were remarkably similar, and the scallop was cooked perfectly. The lobster roll was very good, though I personally found the bread a bit denser than I prefer--I usually like a more buttery, Texas-toast style--but my partner loved it. The turbot followed, accompanied by a chestnut beurre blanc that was incredibly silky and flavorful. It paired wonderfully with the king trumpet mushrooms, black truffle and the fish. The final tasting course was the petit fours: three small cakes--matcha, red velvet, and ginger molasses. They were slightly dense, but still a nice way to end the meal. We also added the house-made basil ice cream (because the basil oil earlier was so good), and that was an excellent decision. Although my birthday had been a few months earlier, once the staff heard we were using a birthday gift card, they surprised me with vanilla ice cream, sprinkles, and a candle--such a thoughtful and unexpected touch. They also treated us to a small glass of dessert wine. By the end of the night, we knew we had found our new favorite place to celebrate. The overall experience is absolutely worth the price point, and I only wish more places were like Mink. We can't wait to return.
