We wandered in here on a Sunday afternoon and we're quite delighted. They have an excellent curated wine list as well as a few cocktails. I loved that they had wines from across the world but also from Michigan. THey are also a wine store so if you like something you can buy to take home. I really enjoyed this cute spot. They have live music and an area to dance. I cam here for a celebration for my friend and the service here was super nice and helpful. I will say they didn't have many food options, just charcuterie options, meats, and cheeses. They did mentioned they usually have a food vendor on Sundays but the Sunday I went they were not there. I love the patio. It's a nice place to relax after work because it's not as busy as later in the evening. I didn't see any food offerings, but there was a taco food truck in the parking lot, so bringing food and eating it on the patio with your wine seems possible. The wine is pricey, but luckily, I wasn't picking up the tab. I enjoyed and recommend the chilled dry wine for $14. It wasn't in a wine glass, though, more of a whiskey glass that was partially filled, so I didn't think the amount justified the price. I was there on Thursday 7/31/25. I'm only giving it two stars because I enjoyed meeting up with my old friends at this place. The bartender was extremely rude, virtually payed no attention to us standing at the bar for nearly 10 minutes before he even acknowledged us. Horrible customer service. I don't understand the hype or positive reviews--this space isn't friendly at all. I'm visiting from California and had a disappointing experience. I was curious about a wine one of the bartenders was drinking, and while he mentioned the name, he didn't offer any suggestions or elaborate further. His response was rude and dismissive, leaving me feeling unwelcome. The building itself also left much to be desired--it's old and seems poorly maintained, with visible leaks in the ceiling. It doesn't appear to meet acceptable standards. It's disheartening enough to witness the effects of gentrification in Detroit, but to experience such poor treatment as a Black man from another Black man? That was deeply disappointing. I've traveled the world and never encountered rudeness like this. If you're Black, I'd recommend avoiding this place. Save your money and support other establishments that truly appreciate your presence. Thankfully, I'm flying back to sunny California soon, leaving this unpleasant experience behind. What makes matters worse is the sheer number of negative comments this 'hole in the wall' has received over the years and without any response from them, which shows they don't care. It seems they rely on people having no other choice but to keep going there for some strange reason. I don't believe this is the only place where people can enjoy a nice atmosphere reasonably priced wines ,especially when better customer service exists elsewhere. My guess is that people in Detroit and the surrounding areas don't have many other options. Thankfully, in California, customer service and word of mouth actually matter! A cozy dimly-lit place for a glass of wine and some good jazz. My best friend took me here after dinner recently. We saw some great local jazz and a bunch of queers on cute dates. A great blend of folks all having a great time. The staff was friendly. It's just challenging if you don't want to stand the whole time - seats are limited. So... I feel bad writing this, as I'm a server of 25 years. This place has so much potential. However, the staff is awful. I've been twice for service industry night, and the bartenders are mean and rude. Never a smile at all. I find zero excuse for this... I guarantee they make over $400 on a night like this. MCW is a great summer destination owing to its great patio, which also hosts a range of live DJs and music. It's also a cozy spot in the winter, whether you're looking for date night, catching up with an old friend, or a small group. They're also one of very few places in the city where you can actually buy a really good selection of bottles of wine that isn't a grocery store or a gross liquor store (I'm not sure there are many liquor stores in the city of Detroit that aren't fundamentally gross). The parking lot is kinda gross and annoying but everything in Detroit must have a giant parking lot because how else could we possibly get to our preferred drinking establishments except by driving a car? read more

I went here as a friends recommendation. I have heard of it but never been here. There is parking in the side and in the front. When walking in it had a bar and sone seating. The walls are lined with many wines. We ordered a cheese board and olives. We were told that the kitchen was closed but the request was still accomadated. We also tried some wine. It's urban, it's unpretentious yet some how still hipsterish but different. I've seen some wicked Dj's here and great bands. I personally love David's wine selections they are a little off the grid but I've always enjoyed every glass of whatever I've had. Last night we did the Japanese tasting. I was so excited to go here for my birthday, I heard so many positive things but my group had a disappointing experience. The bartender was just rude to us from the moment we walked in the door to ordering drinks to when we left, we ended up just getting one glass and leaving because he made us just feel uncomfortable and unwanted by his attitude. We found a cozy little spot, browsed around the wine selections in the back, and decided to ask the bartender for suggestions. He offered us a few tasting samples and we decided on a bottle. I was impressed with the overall reasonable price of the bottle and if the bottle is on their "special" list, they do not charge a corking fee. We enjoyed listening to a dj and sipping on wine. Last Saturday, I attended a tasting at MotorCity Wine with friends. We were seated near the front side (Mich Ave) of the bar RIGHT next to a tasting table. The tasting concluded at 7pm and a band began to setup to start playing at 8pm. Nothing changed amongst the crowd during the setup OR performance - voluminous; loose and free, loud lively customers - drinking, laughing, talking, movement throughout the bar, etc. Band member Sean Blackman setup NEXT TO US. In the midst of conversation with my friends, we glance towards the band and he is shaking his head in disappointment and has this look of disgust on his face as if WE did something to him. We're confused as to why this is. He says we're the reason he couldn't play his guitar. Mind you, the band IS playing, nothing has changed in the crowd, but MY table was the reason he couldn't play. That did not sit well with us because WTF. We responded AS SO! The drummer told him to be quiet (zipped lip gesture). The exchange drew the attention of the lead singer and he began to make his way over to our table and say on the mic that they were about "peace and love". I responded loudly, "not ALL of your band members". We were HIGHLY irritated. HIGHLY. To blame us for whatever issue(s) HE was having pissed us off! The nerve. The gall! A great time turned into a HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. I mentioned this on a MCW IG post (NO RESPONSE) and under a Sean Blackman post on Facebook (HE DELETED IT - I have a screenshot). To start off my birthday festivities, I attended the first Wine Tasting of the summer here. The event was set up on the patio. There were two tables of five wines each. There wasn't a clear distinction between the two indicated so I opted to try each. I began with Table Two. My favorite featured here was the Martha Stouman Post Flirtation Red Blend. At Table One, my favorite here was the Weingut Brand Riesling. This was a pleasant surprise as I hadn't experienced one that I enjoyed before. Motor City Wine is the perfect way to spend a warm breezy Friday night in the Summer or early Fall, sipping wine with friends on their outdoor patio. When you first enter, there's a large bar where you can order a glass of wine or a bottle. You have to order yourself at the bar and take your wine to a table or outside. There's an area to the right with plenty of seating and tables and a stage for live music or DJ. I came once when they had a live band playing jazz and it was fun. All of their wines are written on a large chalkboard over the bar. Most glasses of wine range from about $5-$10, and bottles $18-$38, most in the $20s range. They have a decent selection of reds, whites, rose, and bubbling. I had the Seigneurs de Bergerac rose and it was really good. The Sex Brut Sparkling Rose is a favorite too. Splitting a bottle or a couple bottles with friends is probably your best bet. The last time I stopped in, I came with four friends and we split the Bacci Dolci sweet red. It was very sweet, almost like grape juice. We split a second bottle of Cabernet and it was better tasting, more balanced. With a bottle they gave us four regular glasses instead of wine glasses. Another time, I came, we all ordered by the glass and then we received wine glasses. They don't have a lot of food other than charcuterie, meat, cheeses, and olives. Sometimes they do pop up events that restaurants host too. Motor City Wine is the perfect place to start your evening for a girl's night out. I came here once for a friend's birthday. There were eight of us and there was plenty of room, no reservation required. We started inside listening to the jazz band and then headed outside to their outdoor patio where it was quieter to talk. We headed to Level Two after for dancing. Not a lot of dancing destinations nearby, but lots of other bars and restaurants are within walking distance of Motor City Wine, like Sugarhouse, Gold Cash Gold, Takoi, Two James, Ima, and Ottava Via, so could easily be incorporated into a Corktown pub crawl.
