    Ahi Tuna Tartare

Ostrea has such a charming vibe--the space is cute and stylish, and the staff were wonderful from the moment we arrived. The valet bellman even walked me right to the restaurant and shared that "Ostrea" is Latin for oyster, which was such a welcoming and personal touch. Unfortunately, the food itself really missed the mark. We ordered a dozen Pink Moon Oysters (from Prince Edward Island), the Grilled and Chilled Spanish Octopus, Chilean Sea Bass Cioppino, Seared Scallops, and Ahi Tuna Tartare. While everything was presented nicely, the portions were very small and the dishes just didn't carry the depth of flavor I was hoping for. With the way the menu and atmosphere are set up, I was expecting something more memorable. I really wanted to love it, but overall it felt more style than substance. I'd go back for drinks or maybe a light bite in that pretty setting, but for a full dinner, it's not somewhere I'd rush back to.

Mixed experience: Positive: oysters and shrimp cocktail were on point. Great taste and fresh. Good cocktails. Neutral: Burrata and salmon tartar were ok. Wanted the salmon to have more flavor. Appreciate a good ceviche. Negative: Crab tempura was bready. Tempura was not light and crispy. Texture of the apples against crab did not work for me. Finally, Price to portion size. Spent 70 plus dollars, around 90 after tip. I was still hungry and ate elsewhere afterwards. Other higherend seafood places in Metro Detroit offer larger portion sizes.

We had a nice meal at Ostrea! It was a welcoming atmosphere. It was busy but not packed. The food service was prompt but the drink service was slower. Everyone's enjoyed their meals. I had the mahi mahi and it was well prepared and flavorful. We shared the burrata and pork belly appetizers. They were very good but I've had creamer and tastier burrata. All in, we would return and thank the staff for a nice experience.

Had a reservation for 630 Saturday August 15th. Wanted to try Ostrea for our anniversary. First off they don't have valet so plan on parking on the street or in a garage. We parked at the Buhl garage around the corner. Kind of annoying. They have a door man just like the London Chop House which is a nice touch. We were promptly seated at our reservation time. At no point was our anniversary mentioned either by the hostess or our server. First turn off. Second turn off was the special for the night was a waygu flat iron steak.... At a seafood restaurant... MAKE THAT MAKE SENSE TO ME. Anyways we shared the split lobster as an appetizer. It was nice of them to leave the dirty appetizer plates for the entirety of the meal... 3rd turn off. The lobster was very good and fresh. We each had an extra dirty martini with blue cheese olives. They were excellent and very modestly priced. Third turn off... 3$ for bread service. WHAT A JOKE. How bout just increase your drinks by a dollar or two... just tacky in my opinion. For dinner i wanted a glass of Sauvignon Blanc (New Zealand). They did not have this which was a huge shock being a seafood forward restaurant. That was the 4th turn off. The sea bass and scallops were both very good and had tons of flavor. The chocolate dome dessert was also good. I wanted to LOVE this place and i did like the food, but it just lacked that wow factor. The service was mediocre at best. Restaurant was half empty on a Saturday at 7pm... hopefully things turn around, because with a few tweaks ostrea has a ton of potential.

The service was great but the food the oysters came with lemons of course but one lemon had hair on it. Strike one, the oysters were so good though. I did inform the waiter that my lemon had hair on it . So he brought more lemons. Next the food comes my salad had hair on it. Now that was strike three. The salad was tasty and delicious. But I will not be returning the food is very creative and delicious but the place needs a real cleaning the booths the windows the chairs and the food having hair in it was the end for me. The place has potential to be great but it definitely needs to be cleaned. Hair should not be in food. Great drinks Great food but cleanliness is not good. That's why 2 stars!

Exquisite seafood restaurant that has amazing seafood - I got all of their fish dishes like the ahi tuna, salmon and sea bass, because I was hungry and they have smaller portions, and all of them were incredible. They also have a very nice seafood chowder soup. As for dessert, their mango cheesecake (served in a small cylinder) is excellent. As is their cannoli served in the form of wafers. I also got a coffee with honey and cream. Exceptional service from a server named Nadine. Extremely cool interior decor and style with an underwater explorer theme. Also from the same owners as London Chop House next door. Definitely worth checking out if you are in Downtown Detroit!

Dinner last night with my best friends was outstanding. Started with the EFO so smooth Food choices through recommendations from Josh and Thomas were the scallops and octopus for starters and then we had the sea bass and lobster pasta dish which was a 10/10 after dinner drinks and a shared dessert The whole experience was fantastic

There was a 2 top table at the back that we were seated at - we could have sat at the bar also - and it was a great spot. We ordered the tasting menu and WOW, every course was amazing. I'll post pics because the presentation was gorgeous for each item. They have a small cocktail and wine and beer selection, but that was fine. My son got their Shrub Mocktail and I got the Shrub with Sake. Both were delicious and so interesting. I can't pick a favorite item because they were all so good, but the Torched Mackerel and Poached Bosc Pear were tied for #1, followed by the Salmon, Oysters and the crazy good Blood Orange dessert. The shrimp toast was just ok for me, not bad, just not as good as everything else. Additionally the service was outstanding. For a tiny place they did everything right. They explained each course, brought out fresh utensils for every course - YEA! - and made sure we had good pacing. Our server was knowledgeable and friendly and enhanced our meal. I really want to come back and try the oysters and some of the tinned items. I'm so excited I found Mink and will be back for sure.

Most of our dishes were very tasty however I would not recommend the walleye panino. It was just ok and thought they were going to reinvent the fish sandwich but there is definitely other items that were very good. We also decided to go back yesterday for happy hour and sat at the bar and Brynn and Kelsey provided the best service I have had in a long time. They made the best martinis and were so fun and friendly! Our friends were celebrating their anniversary and we all had such a great time talking with them. I mentioned that we didn't a candle with our dessert the week before and they surprised us with pistachio gelato with a candle! It was so thoughtful and we were so thankful for the surprise! We definitely will be back for the happy and the great bar service!

My first impression: Noisy! Lots of hard surfaces. Difficult to hear the hostess, server and my wife. The tables were appropriately spaced for diners and servers to work with no bump & grind. We started by sharing a dozen oysters and the pear/walnuts salad. The oysters were a bit small-ish; but otherwise, excellent. Server took a drink order from my wife, but skipped me. Eh? I flagged down another server to order a Pino. It took a surprisingly long time to arrive. On the plus side, I was offered a taste to insure it was satisfactory - it was. The pear salad w/walnuts was excellent. The pears were sliced paper-thin. One of the joys of eating a properly ripened pear is the juicy explosion and thinly sliced pears defeat the juicy explosion. If the pears were fully ripe, perhaps cube them? Weirdly; the two sides (mushrooms, potatoes) were served before the entrees. The server noticed, seemed surprised and withdrew the sides, returning with our entrees (lamb shoulder, steak). Then the side returned. Both entrees were warm-ish and the sides were hot. The 14-day, dry-aged steak was ordered medium-rare and was seasoned and prepared as ordered. Again; warm-ish, not hot. I expected better beefy flavor for a dry-aged steak. One end was a bit chewy. Tenderness improved as I got to the other end of the steak. I ordered it with horseradish. I will admit to being a weirdo who loves spicy horseradish (and wasabi) that will clean the sinuses - this was "Ohio-spice'd" horseradish ... not creamy, but less spicy than Arby's Horsey sauce. The mushroom and the potato sides were served hot from the kitchen. Both were excellent, no complaints. The presentation of the steak needs improvement. It was a properly prepared, lonely lump of brown, served on a white plate with cracked ceramic glaze. The lamb shoulder was the better entree. For some reason, my wife was expecting Middle Eastern seasoning. The menu did not mention Middle Eastern seasoning and she did not ask, so that's on her, not the kitchen. I thought it was excellent. Gripe: After the entrees arrived, our server did not return to ask if the entrees were satisfactory. She did return later to ask if we wanted a second round of drinks. We did ... We were offered dessert and ordered, but never asked if we wanted coffee or an after dinner drink. Both desserts were excellent. Will we return? Probably ... not. With tip; dinner for two was $286. At this price point I expect better: Less noise, better beef and flawless service.
